Ho-Oh is one of the top gods thanks to not only its fantastic donations, but its ability to wall some of the top physical threats in the metagame such as Necrozma-DM and Zacian-C lacking Wild Charge all while keeping itself healthy with reliable recovery and Regenerator. It is also one of the premier special walls in the metagame, being able to take anything that Pokemon such as Hydrapple and Clefable have to offer. Sacred Fire is not only a super reliable STAB, but it also scares off most physical attackers that would be otherwise crippled by burn such as Ogerpon-Wellspring and Great Tusk. Earthquake allows Ho-Oh to hit Fire-types such as Iron Moth and Ceruledge while also hitting Pokemon such as Eternatus and Clodsire supereffectively. Recover allows Ho-Oh to not be as reliant on Regenerator to stay healthy and keep pressuring the opponent. Lastly, Whirlwind gives Ho-Oh a way to force out setup sweepers such as Calm Mind Arceus formes, Calyrex-I, and Zamazenta that may try to power their way through it. Ho-Oh's Tera Type is highly dependent on what suits the team best; Ground allows Ho-Oh to avoid Electric- and Rock-type attacks while Water allows Ho-Oh to have a serviceable defensive type post-Tera while avoiding Water-type moves it would otherwise be weak to. Lastly, Poison allows Ho-Oh to avoid being worn down by Poison status; however, Poison has the issue of being weak to common attacking types that Ho-Oh is otherwise strong against.

There are a plethora of Pokemon that appreciate Ho-Oh's absolutely amazing 154 Special Defense stat with offensive threats such as Great Tusk and defensive stalwarts such as Ting-Lu and Dondozo shoring up their weaker defensive stat and, coupled with Ho-Oh, the ability to shrug off any special attack. Ho-Oh also has a solid 130 Attack stat to donate, which is on the higher end compared to other gods, so Pokemon such as Samurott-Hisui and Ogerpon-Wellspring appreciate the nice power boost to their powerful STABs. Thanks to Ho-Oh's ability to phaze the opponent, entry hazards pair extremely well with Ho-Oh so Pokemon such as Garganacl and Clodsire that can easily set them are natural partners and slot well in Special Defense or Defense respectively. Ho-Oh is best slotted into the Special Attack slot as a god thanks to having above-average stats to donate in other slots; however, its Speed can be seen as average as well and therefore Ho-Oh can slot itself into Speed easier to give up its serviceable Special Attack to Pokemon such as Iron Treads. Speaking of, entry hazard removal from the likes of the aforementioned Iron Treads or Great Tusk allow Ho-oh to not fear losing its Heavy-Duty Boots. Knock Off absorbers such as Ogerpon-W and Clefable are valuable for a similar reason.

Ho-Oh is one of the top gods thanks to not only its fantastic donations, but its ability to wall some of the top physical threats in the metagame such as Necrozma-DM and Zacian-C lacking Wild Charge all while keeping itself healthy with reliable recovery and Regenerator. think it's worth mentioning that ho-oh is one of, if not the best, mons in the meta to take on top special attackers like kyurem-w, hydrapple, and cm arceus (if you want to specify an arceus forme, I'd say ghost) though that could require careful nature Sacred Fire is not only a super reliable STAB, but it also scares off most physical attackers that would be otherwise crippled by burn such as Ogerpon-Wellspring and Great Tusk. Earthquake allows Ho-Oh to hit Fire-types such as Iron Moth and Ceruledge while also hitting Pokemon such as Eternatus and Pecharunt this guy is so fat he eats up uninvested eq with ease despite it being super effective, would just go like garg or clodsire instead tbh supereffectively. Recover allows Ho-Oh to not be as reliant on Regenerator to stay healthy and keep pressuring the opponent. Lastly, Whirlwind gives Ho-Oh a way to force out setup sweepers such as Calyrex-I, Zamazenta, and Arceus formes that may try to power their way through it. would put arceus first and specifically mention calm mind, being one of the better blanket checks to most cm arceus is the reason why ho-oh is as good as it is Ho-Oh's Tera Type is highly dependent on what suits the team best; Ground allows Ho-Oh to avoid Electric- and Rock-type attacks also boosts eq damage, which comes up a lot vs like etern, garg, clod and pech. if it's considered dex info then don't add it, but I think mentioning the mons is important while Water allows Ho-Oh to have a serviceable defensive type post-Tera while avoiding Water-type moves it would otherwise be weak to. Lastly, Steel allows Ho-Oh to avoid being worn down by Poison status and still resists Rock-types moves; however, Steel has the issue of being weak to common attacking types that Ho-Oh otherwise are strong against. do people actually run tera steel ho-oh? tbh I don't really see a single use case over ground, water, fairy or even poison. being weak to ground / fighting / fire on the guy who is usually meant to be checking those mons is never really able to be mitigated by the teammates

Ho-Oh is best slotted into the Speed or Defense slot tbh I think ho-oh should almost never be in def, clef and clod are sooo good and pair excellently w ho-oh so it should never really be on a team without one of them. ig on like, bo it can forgo them but that should moreso be the exception to the rule aa don't forget to change to 'as' a god thanks to having above-average stats to donate in other slots; however, its Special Attack can be seen as average and therefore Ho-Oh can slot itself into Special Attack easier to give up its serviceable Speed or Defense to Pokemon such as Hydrapple and Clefable.

It is also one of the premier special walls in the metagame, being able to take anything that Hydrapple, Calm Mind Arceus-Ghost, and Kyurem-W have to offer. this is a little awkward to me because it sounds like you hard wall then when you dont, 252 SpA Choice Specs Kyurem-White Ice Beam vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Ho-Oh: 186-219 (44.7 - 52.6%) -- 21.5% chance to 2HKO, ghostceus also does a lot Sacred Fire is not only a super reliable STAB, but it also scares off most physical attackers that would be otherwise crippled by burn such as Ogerpon-Wellspring and Great Tusk. also maybe (?) include something abt knock absorber/removal bc if u have neither ho-oh is kinda cooked into knock + rocks
