With Insomnia, being immune to sleep(Dark Void) gave Honchkroww a niche in previous VGCs but, Smeargle loosing some of its viability this gen makes Honchkrow less desirable this Gen, in doubles, and because of its terrible Defenses being a big burden to carry. However, Honchkrows's fantastic movepool including Sucker Punch, Brave Bird, and Super Power with a sky high attack makes Honchkrow an incredibly powerful attacker, and a viable threat in the GBU environment. Plus, Insomnia is still pretty good when there's no sleep clause.

The second strongest Sucker Punch in the game hurts taking out both lati@s without Dark Gem, except latias if she invests heavily in Defense. Super Power and Brave Bird are sure to damage anything weak to them. If you want to go mixed, Heat Wave deals spread damage and hits both Metagross and Scizor hard. With smeargle's drop in usage, Moxies is an option and with Sucker Punch, Honchkrow can be scary once the Moxie boosts start rolling. Super Power and Heat Wave are illegal with Moxie so Taunt is useful in general and can stop the random Trick Room User. Tail Wind is also an option since Honchkrow is good at causing switches or Protects with Sucker Punch.

As one of the few Pokemon to learn Sucker Punch + Pursuit, it can play mindgames against Psychics like Latios and Latias. Brave Bird is just extremely powerful with Life Orb attached, and Honchkrow's base 100 HP softens up the recoil. Superpower is necessary for Steel type coverage, but if Metagross is a concern, Heat Wave can be used in the 4th slot.
