How To Lure

a706da0497d8ad56b9cc80da314ef7d2.jpg

Hey everyone! I have one question, are you busy to see some top mon everywhere? Yes? So this project will please you!
What is a lure? A lure is defined as any Pokémon that manages to draw out (or "lure") and eliminate an opponent's Pokémon which serves as a potential roadblock to the sweeper of your choice. (For more information read that Concept Of Lure)
  • Every round, I'll pick one Pokemon from the "SS ZU Viability Rankings" to be discussed. The submission stage will last from Monday to Thursday.
  • During the round, post a Pokemon of your choosing from the Viability Rankings which is able to lure the current target, with a Sprite, a Set, Description, and Calculations if necessary. (Note that they MUST be viable, no gimmicks.)
  • From Friday to Sunday, you'll vote for one or two lure, and, at the end of the round, results will be archived with a link to the posts so that eventually we'll have a bank of lure for each viable target in the tier with descriptions and sets to match.
  • The same Pokemon may be picked, but they have to have a different set.
Rules:
  • Only post viable pokémon from the current ZU VR, or I will reject your submission. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to let me know on here, Pokémon Showdown!, or Discord.
  • If you think someone else's submission is unviable, please let me know with a reasoning of why.
  • If your submission isn't clear enough, back it up with some calcs (you can use this website to calc.)
  • Please do not submit any Pokémon or items from the blacklist, I will reject your submission and most likely ask you to delete your post.

Tangela is a commun check for Shiftry SD, but imagine you replace SD by Heat Wave? Tangela come on the Knok Off for check Shiftry and go stay and clic Sludge Bomb, Shiftry stay and clic Heat Wave after the eviolite was knokked off....Tangela die.... Congratulation you have lure Tangela!!

4 SpA Life Orb Shiftry Heat Wave vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Tangela: 330-390 (98.8 - 116.7%) -- 93.8% chance to OHKO

Pretty straight forward but not really super worth it, you trade the ability of generating momentum with U-turn and notably pressuring Uxie for the ability to hit Grasses like Tangela, Gourgeist and Appletun/Ferroseed depending on the coverage move you choose. Still a cool variation of the standard U-turn set though.

EVs: 252 HP / 176 SpD / 80 Spe
Calm Nature
- Seismic Toss
- Whirlpool
- Toxic
- Rest

Tangela is a common answer to the typical Kangaskhan set, so this set looks to capitalize on that tendency. You Whirlpool on the switch in, and then beat it 1v1 with toxic damage. The spread is set to outspeed common Centiskorch creepers, so that you can potentially trap a Cramorant or Altaria brave enough to stay in/switch into a Kangaskhan. The nice thing about this set is thateven if your opponent knows the set, it is hard to deal with nonetheless, as Toxic and Seismic Toss are extremely spammable.

Use this set to enable a physical win condition such as a Silvally Form, a Band Thwackey, or a Scarf Sawk. Really effective fat breaker as well(unless you run into Ferro and Roar Altaria).

+2 252+ Atk Life Orb Rhydon Megahorn vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Eviolite Tangela: 325-385 (97.3 - 115.2%) -- 81.3% chance to OHKO

This set is hilarious to me because it's got higher SD into OHKO odds than HDB Rapidash... lol! Rhydon is already known as a potential sweeper with its dual dance set, which is largely thanks to its good dual STAB attacks + Eviolite bulk. This set instead is a full on wallbreaker, and it really takes advantage of Tangela being the go-to Ground check in the meta rn. Sure it's not as bulky but the Life Orb power also makes it deadly for tearing up slower walls, so once it's in, it's likely to get a KO or do a ton of damage. Safe to say though that early-game with a Tangela that is completely healthy and still has its Eviolite, no one would expect Rhydon would be able to OHKO it. The only issues would be getting Rhydon in + Tangela potentially creeping Rhydon.

252+ SpA Qwilfish Sludge Wave vs. 248 HP / 8 SpD Eviolite Tangela: 266-314 (79.8 - 94.2%) -- 43.8% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock

Tangela often comes in on Qwilfish as it often only runs Liquidation or waterfall as it's only attack,However with sludge wave you can punish it for coming in if you hit it with a waterfall on the switch or if you have rocks up you can remove tang which helps immensely on the Kangaspikes and offense teams Qwilfish fits on benefiting it's teammates such as kangaskhan allowing em to click their moves without getting walled by Tangela.Sludge wave may also land a crucial Poison which tangela doesn't like as it forces it to switch earlier than it would need to without the Poison.

Modest Nature

- Bug Buzz
- Scorching Sands
- Fire Blast / Knock Off / Scald / Substitute / Will-O-Wisp

physdef garbodor with rocky helmet and aftermath is a common switch-in to the all-out attacking physical wallbreaker centiskorch that is very ubiquitous on the ladder. garb resists leech life and power whip, but more importantly, racks up the chip damage on skorch so that it can be easily revenge killed, especially since it's pretty slow.

enter special centiskorch! despite boasting a 115 physical attack stat, its base 90 special attack is respectable, hitting 306 with max investment and a modest nature, and it has a decent enough movepool to boot. flamethrower and bug buzz are your standard dual stab and scorching sands hits garb, qwilfish, and other fire types (but we're only here to talk about garb). your last move is really fluid in what you can pick but your options are kinda limited, especially for a specially offensive set. you can pick fire blast for more power, knock and wisp for utility, scald to hit opposing centiskorch super effectively, and sub to take advantage of mons that switch out fearing the standard physical set. i would recommend fire blast over anything else because it helps in securing kos. i could even see a set of fire blast/bug buzz/scorching sands/sub putting in work.

you unfortunately will never get a guaranteed 2hko on garb without just a tiny bit of chip, so rocks are very useful for that reason. with rocks up, fire blast into either flamethrower or scorching sands will always kill. always be careful with garb though, especially the one proposed, because rock blast is deadly.
252+ SpA Centiskorch Fire Blast vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Garbodor: 181-214 (49.7 - 58.7%) -- 99.6% chance to 2HKO
252+ SpA Centiskorch Flamethrower vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Garbodor: 148-175 (40.6 - 48%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
252+ SpA Centiskorch Scorching Sands vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Garbodor: 154-182 (42.3 - 50%) -- 0.4% chance to 2HKO
252+ SpA Centiskorch Fire Blast vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Garbodor: 181-214 (49.7 - 58.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock
