[OVERVIEW]

Dragon
========

Hydreigon is the premier special wallbreaker for Dragon teams, as its combination of Nasty Plot and Substitute allows it to improve matchups against bulky types such as Poison and Steel. Hydreigon's unique typing, decent bulk, and Ground immunity allow it to also improve Psychic, Ghost, and Ground matchups. However, Hydreigon's Speed is slightly below average, which leaves it vulnerable to being revenge killed by Jirachi, Garchomp, Dragapult, and Latias. Furthermore, Hydreigon's coverage can be exploited by setup sweepers such as Tapu Fini and Tyranitar, which can use it as setup bait.

[SET]
name: Nasty Plot (Dragon)

move 2: Dark Pulse
move 3: Flamethrower / Fire Blast
move 4: Substitute / Roost
item: Leftovers

nature: Timid

[SET COMMENTS]
Dark Pulse hits Poison-, Ghost-, and Psychic-types such as Galarian Slowking, Galarian Corsola, and Jirachi. Flamethrower allows Hydreigon to threaten Steel- and Grass-types such as Bisharp, Ferrothorn, and Amoonguss. Fire Blast can be used over Flamethrower, as it allows Hydreigon to remove specially defensive Celesteela, Galarian Weezing, and Assault Vest Melmetal at +2. After a Nasty Plot boost, Hydreigon threatens to 2HKO most defensive Pokemon, such as Hippowdon, Gastrodon, specially defensive Skuntank, and Galarian Slowking. Substitute allows Hydreigon to set up on passive Pokemon such as Amoonguss, Aegislash, and Toxapex without fear of getting statused. Roost can be used over Substitute to further increase Hydreigon's longevity at the cost of not being able to avoid status. Leftovers allows Hydreigon to stay healthy after setting Substitute and attempt to wallbreak multiple times in a match.

Dragalge is a fantastic teammate that provides utility in Toxic Spikes and Flip Turn while also checking special attackers like Tapu Fini, Keldeo, and Volcarona. Hydreigon repays Dragalge by covering for its Psychic and Ground weaknesses, and removing Steel-types that are unbothered by Dragalge's moves. Kyurem can remove Flying-, Ground-, and Water-types like Landorus-T, Nidoking, and Tapu Fini and run a plethora of sets like Choice Specs, SubRoost, and Dragon Dance. Garchomp sets Stealth Rock, provides an Electric immunity, and removes Pokemon that wall Hydreigon such as Tyranitar, Terrakion, and specially defensive Heatran. Dragapult can be used to deter foes such as Urshifu-R, Thundurus-T, and Gengar from using Fighting-type moves to remove Hydreigon and covers for Hydreigon's Bug weakness due to its Ghost typing, and it also has an excellent Speed tier that lets it outpace and remove threats like Latias and Tapu Lele. Choice Scarf Latias provides a fast teammate for Hydreigon, aids in Fighting and Poison matchups, and can provide Healing Wish to give Hydreigon a second chance to wallbreak.

Earth Power can be used over Substitute to remove specially defensive Heatran and Skuntank. Similarly, Flash Cannon can be used to improve the Fairy matchup, as Hydreigon outspeeds most Fairy-type Pokemon and can use Klefki as setup bait. However, Substitute or Roost is more beneficial for Hydreigon, as it allows Hydreigon to avoid status or improve its longevity, respectively. A Modest nature can be used to OHKO Ferrothorn without a Nasty Plot boost, but the drop in Speed leaves Hydreigon vulnerable to Kyurem, Excadrill, and Nidoking. A Choice Specs set with Fire Blast, Draco Meteor, Dark Pulse, and Flash Cannon allows Hydreigon to immediately wallbreak and help in Ground, Steel, Ghost, Psychic, and Fairy matchups. A Choice Scarf set may also be considered, as it can OHKO Galarian Darmanitan with Fire Blast and Alolan Ninetales with Flash Cannon, but Hydreigon will struggle to break bulkier Pokemon such as Galarian Slowking, Heatran, and Gastrodon. However, using Choice Scarf or Choice Specs leaves Hydreigon vulnerable to being scouted with Protect, which could be problematic in the Steel matchup.

Checks and Counters

**Specially Defensive Walls**: Specially defensive walls such as Blissey, Tyranitar, and Heatran take negligible damage from Hydreigon's attacks and can threaten it with status or chip damage.

**Revenge Killers**: Faster Pokemon like Garchomp, Weavile, Choice Scarf Galarian Darmanitan, and Jirachi outspeed Hydreigon and OHKO it with a super effective move.

**Melmetal**: Melmetal can threaten to OHKO Hydreigon behind a Substitute with Double Iron Bash when using a Choice Band set. Melmetal can also opt to use an Assault Vest to survive a +2 Flamethrower and heavily chip Hydreigon with Double Iron Bash.

**Status**: Paralysis reduces Hydreigon's ability to threaten slower Pokemon. Toxic puts Hydreigon on a timer, making it unable to wallbreak properly. Hydreigon has to be wary of Crobat, as Infiltrator lets Crobat cripple Hydreigon with Toxic behind Substitute.

Hydreigon is the premier special wallbreaker for Dragon-type teams, as it is able to boost its above average Special Attack to terrifying levels with Nasty Plot, its combination of Nasty Plot and Substitute allows it to improve matchups against bulky types such as Poison and Steel. Hydreigon's unique typing, decent bulk, and immunity to Ground-type moves allow it to also improve Psychic, Ghost, and Ground matchups. Dark Pulse allows Hydreigon to threaten Poison-, Ghost-, and Psychic-types such as Galarian Slowking, Galarian Corsola, and Jirachi. It also allows Hydreigon to flinch through hazers and phazers such as Mantine and Specially Defensive Heatran. (don't think this is particularly relevant, but you can talk about how Dark Pulse is strong and consistent neutral damage) Flamethrower allows Hydreigon to threaten Steel- and Grass-types such as Ferrothorn, Bisharp, and Amoonguss. Klefki. (ur running flamethrower for steels, not amoonguss in particular) At +2, Hydreigon threatens to OHKO most defensive Steel-types, such as Celesteela, Corviknight, and Melmetal. Substitute allows Hydreigon to setup on passive Pokemon such as Amoonguss, Aegislash, and Toxapex without fear of getting statused. Maximum investment in Special Attack and Speed maximizes Hydreigon's offensive presence, while a Timid nature allows Hydreigon to outspeed and remove threats such as Kyurem, Excadrill, and Nidoking. Levitate is the only legal ability for Hydreigon, and lets Hydreigon come in on a predicted Ground-type move and ignore Spikes damage, which helps in the Steel matchup. Leftovers allow Hydreigon to stay healthy after setting up to set up Substitute and attempt to wallbreak multiple times in a match.

Dragalge is a fantastic team mate for Hydreigon, as it can set Toxic Spikes to wear down the opposing team further, can pivot Hydreigon safely with Flip Turn, and can remove Fairies such as Tapu Fini using its Poison-type STAB. (this is a weird description, the main thing dragalge does for hydreigon is switch into fairy- and fighting- attacks. make sure that's the focus and the tspikes / flip turn stuff is supporting) Hydreigon repays Dragalge by covering for its Psychic- and Ground-type weakness, and by removing Steel-types that are unbothered by Dragalge's moves. Garchomp sets Stealth Rock and can help Hydreigon break down Steel and Poison teams by threatening Heatran and Toxapex. Dragapult aids in the Ghost and Psychic matchup with a Dragon Dance or Choice Specs set, as it can remove Gengar and Tapu Lele. Alternatively, Choice Scarf Dragapult may be used to threaten Dragon-types like Swift Swim Kingdra, the opposing Dragapult, and Latias, which would otherwise outspeed and remove Hydreigon (you dont need 2 lines on pult, just say it can help break types like dragon, psychic, steel with hydreigon while also forcing 50/50s vs urshifu). Kyurem is another wallbreaker that can deal with bulky Ground- and Flying-types such as Gastrodon and Mantine by using a Choice Specs or SubRoost set. (just mention kyurem's strong wallbreaking presence / potential sweeping with dd icicle spear. hydreigon doesnt in particular struggle with either of the pokemon u mentioned so the line doesnt make sense. also move this way further up, broken mon) Choice Scarf Latias provides Speed control, aids in Fighting and Poison matchups, and can provide Healing Wish to give Hydreigon a second chance to wallbreak, which is especially useful in the Steel matchup.

Roost may be used over Substitute to further increase Hydreigon's longevity at the cost of not being able to avoid status. Alternatively, Earth Power may also be used over Substitute to remove Specially Defensive Heatran and Skuntank without relying on Dark Pulse's flinch chance as it OHKOs both Pokemon at +2, but Substitute allows Hydreigon to avoid status and fire off an attack safely. A Modest nature may be used to OHKO Ferrothorn without a Nasty Plot boost and to generally hit harder, but the drop in Speed leaves Hydreigon vulnerable to Kyurem, Excadrill, and Nidoking. A Choice Specs set with Fire Blast, Draco Meteor, Dark Pulse, and Flash Cannon allows Hydreigon to immediately wallbreak and help in Ground, Steel, Ghost, Psychic, and Fairy matchups. However, using Choice Specs leaves Hydreigon vulnerable to being scouted with Protect, which could be problematic in the Steel matchup.

**Specially Defensive Walls**: Specially defensive walls such as Blissey, Tyranitar, and Heatran take negligible damage from Hydreigon's attacks and can threaten it with Status or chip damage. Tyranitar can use Hydreigon as setup bait to sweep Dragon-type teams. (dd ttar isnt a special wall, just something that resists hydreigons moves)

**Revenge Killers**: Faster Pokemon like Garchomp, Weavile, Choice Scarf Galarian Darmanitan, and Jirachi outspeed Hydreigon and OHKO it with a super effective move.

**Tapu Fini**: Tapu Fini resists Hydreigon's STAB and coverage moves. It can also OHKO Hydreigon with Moonblast with a Choice Scarf set, or can use Hydreigon as setup bait to sweep Dragon teams with a Calm Mind set. (obvious, lots of fairies are good vs hydreigon)

Hydreigon has to be wary of Crobat, as Infiltrator lets Crobat cripple Hydreigon with Toxic behind a Substitute.

- Dark Pulse allows Hydreigon to threaten hits Poison-, Ghost-, and Psychic-types such as Galarian Slowking, Galarian Corsola, and Jirachi.
- Flamethrower allows Hydreigon to threaten Steel- and Grass-types such as Klefki, Bisharp, and Ferrothorn. [Maybe do it in this order: Ferrothorn, Bisharp, and Amoonguss", I like to have 1 / 1 / 1 even examples for things like this but id just swap the order around so Ferrothorn is mentioned first]
- At +2, Hydreigon threatens to OHKO most defensive Steel-types, such as Celesteela, Corviknight, and Melmetal. [I'd generalize this and talk about how it allows Hydreigon to break past defensive pokemon in general being pex/gastrodon/hippo/etc]
- Move Roost and Fire Blast to moves. Mention Fire blast for bulky melmetal and it OHKOes weezing-g after rocks.

[Teammates]
Dragalge is a fantastic team mate for Hydreigon, as it can cover for Hydreigon's Fairy- and Fighting-type weaknesses. It can also set Toxic Spikes to wear down the opposing team further and bring in Hydreigon safely with Flip Turn. Dragalge is a fantastic teammate that provides utilities in Toxic Spikes and Flip Turn while also checking special attackers like Tapu Fini, Keldeo, and Volcarona. [Examples are very very important for the reader. When you look at Fighting-types, there really aren't any common special fighting-types besides Keldeo. I think of Pokemon like Galarian Zapdos, Terrakion, Toxicroak, and Conkeldurr and you generally wouldn't want Dragalge to be your main check to such Pokemon on your Dragon build. Dragalge is mainly for Fairy but its special bulk allows it to check other special attackers naturally.]

Kyurem is another strong wallbreaker that helps in Flying and Ground matchups if using a Choice Specs or SubRoost set, or a late-game sweeper when using a Dragon Dance set. Kyurem is a great for Flying-, Ground-, and Water-types like ABC that can run a plethora of sets like Choice Specs, SubRoost, and Dragon Dance. [There is a lot to cover for Kyurem and all these sets arent really "wallbreaker" sets, the meat of the sentence is actually providing examples of some pokemon hydreigon might need team support with breaking/damaging. We sort of generalize the typing stuff in the overview and its ok to provide many examples and references to help the reader understand the role of the pokemon]

Garchomp sets Stealth Rock and can help Hydreigon break down Steel and Poison teams by threatening Heatran and Toxapex. [Why'd you choose these Pokemon specifically? I think mentioned Roar Heatran is amazing as it directly states the set in reference over Air Balloon of course. Toxapex also learns Haze! But is Hydreigon really bothered by Toxapex since it can consecutively setup Substitute then fish for Flinches? idts. You mentioned tyranitar in the overview and id also mention its typing providing rock resistance + electric immunity]

Pult: you need to talk abt its speed tier, ghost typing, and examples

I’d focus on the important information first for pult also, this is correct but you mainly wanna target how they benefit hydreigon. It’s ghost typing is mainly for fighting immunity which synergizes with hydreigons fighting and bug weakness. I rather you focus on the speed tier and ghost typing for dragapult mainly. This should allow you to put this information into once sentence instead of two. just remove pult’s sets here.

[OVERVIEW]

Dragon
========

Hydreigon is the premier special wallbreaker for Dragon-type teams, as its combination of Nasty Plot and Substitute allows it to improve matchups against bulky types such as Poison and Steel. Hydreigon's unique typing, decent bulk, and Ground-type immunity allow it to also improve Psychic, Ghost, and Ground matchups. However, Hydreigon's Speed is slightly below average, which leaves it vulnerable to being revenge killed by Jirachi, Garchomp, Dragapult, and Latias. Furthermore, Hydreigon's coverage can be exploited by setup sweepers such as Tapu Fini and Tyranitar, which can use Hydreigon it as setup bait.

[SET COMMENTS]
Dark Pulse hits Poison-, Ghost-, and Psychic-types such as Galarian Slowking, Galarian Corsola, and Jirachi. Flamethrower allows Hydreigon to threaten Steel- and Grass-types such as Ferrothorn, (RC) Bisharp, Ferrothorn, (AC) and Amoonguss. Fire Blast can be used over Flamethrower, as it allows Hydreigon to remove specially defensive Celesteela, Galarian Weezing, and Assault Vest Melmetal at +2. After a Nasty Plot boost, Hydreigon threatens to 2HKO most defensive Pokemon, such as Hippodwon Hippowdon, Gastrodon, specially defensive Skuntank, and Galarian Slowking. Substitute allows Hydreigon to set up on passive Pokemon such as Amoonguss, Aegislash, and Toxapex without fear of getting statused. Roost can be used over Substitute to further increase Hydreigon's longevity at the cost of not being able to avoid status. Leftovers allows (all items are treated as singular nouns, even if it's naturally plural) Hydreigon to stay healthy after setting up Substitute and attempt to wallbreak multiple times in a match.

Dragalge is a fantastic teammate that provides utility in Toxic Spikes and Flip Turn while also checking special attackers like Tapu Fini, Keldeo, and Volcarona. Hydreigon repays Dragalge by covering for its Psychic- (RC) and Ground-type (RC) weaknesses, (RC) and by removing Steel-types that are unbothered by Dragalge's moves. Kyurem can remove Flying-, Ground-, and Water-types like Landorus-T, Nidoking, and Tapu Fini and can run a plethora of sets like Choice Specs, SubRoost, and Dragon Dance. Garchomp sets Stealth Rock, provides an Electric-type immunity, and removes Pokemon that wall Hydreigon such as Tyranitar, Terrakion, and specially defensive Heatran. Dragapult can be used to deter opponents foes such as Urshifu-R, Thundurus-T, and Gengar from using Fighting-type moves to remove Hydreigon and covers for Hydreigon's Bug-type weakness due to its Ghost typing, and it also has an excellent Speed tier that lets it outpace and remove threats like Latias and Tapu Lele. Choice Scarf Latias provides speed control a fast teammate for Hydreigon, aids in Fighting and Poison matchups, and can provide Healing Wish to give Hydreigon a second chance to wallbreak.

Dragon

Earth Power can be used over Substitute to remove specially defensive Heatran and Skuntank. Similarly, Flash Cannon can be used to improve the Fairy matchup, as Hydreigon outspeeds most Fairy-type Pokemon and can use Klefki as setup bait. However, Substitute or Roost is more beneficial for Hydreigon, (AC) as it allows Hydreigon to avoid status or improve its longevity, respectively. A Choice Scarf set may also be considered, (AC) as it can OHKO Galarian Darmanitan with Fire Blast and Alolan Ninetales with Flash Cannon, but Hydreigon will struggle to break bulkier Pokemon such as Galarian Slowking, Heatran, and Gastrodon. However, using Choice Scarf or Choice Specs leaves Hydreigon vulnerable to being scouted with Protect, which could be problematic in the Steel matchup.

Checks and Counters

Dragon

**Specially Defensive Walls**: Specially defensive walls such as Blissey, Tyranitar, and Heatran take neglible negligible damage from Hydreigon's attacks and can threaten it with status or chip damage.

Hydreigon has to be wary of Crobat, as Infiltrator lets Crobat cripple Hydreigon with Toxic behind a Substitute.
