UU Hydreigon QC 3/3 GP 2/2

[OVERVIEW]

Hydreigon is a dangerous Pokemon in the UU tier thanks to its high Special Attack, respectable Speed tier, amazing STAB combination, and diverse movepool. It's very versatile, with sets ranging from an effective Choice Scarf revenge killer to a devastating Nasty Plot wallbreaker. Hydreigon's typing and ability are quite useful for checking Pokemon such as Swampert and Chandelure. However, it has weaknesses to a lot of common types, limiting the number of times it can switch in. Aegislash and Lycanroc-D can threaten it with Close Combat, and common Fighting-types such as Conkeldurr and Cobalion can revenge kill Hydreigon and use it as an opportunity to wallbreak. Pokemon like Zarude and Mandibuzz will wear it down with U-turn. Hydreigon struggles to break through Fairy-types—particularly Primarina and Azumarill, as they take neutral damage from Flash Cannon. It has four-moveslot syndrome—Flash Cannon is needed for Fairy-types but Flamethrower is needed for Celesteela—and it is completely walled by Chansey even after multiple Nasty Plot boosts. Despite its decent Speed, Hydreigon is outsped by many Pokemon such as Jirachi, Thundurus-T, and Salamence.

[SET]

move 3: U-turn
move 4: Fire Blast / Defog / Roost
item: Choice Scarf
ability: Levitate
nature: Timid
evs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

Hydreigon is a fantastic Choice Scarf user capable of revenge killing threats like Zygarde-10% and Dragon Dance Gyarados. U-turn is mandatory to escape switch-ins like Chansey and Primarina. The last moveslot is very flexible. Fire Blast is an option to revenge kill Tapu Bulu and more easily break through Steel-types like Excadrill, Skarmory, and Celesteela. Defog creates role compression if required, while Roost can provide some longevity to answer Rotom-W and Swampert throughout a match. Roost can be very useful if you let Hydreigon take Knock Off in a matchup where it doesn't require Choice Scarf.

Choice Scarf Hydreigon fits best on bulky offense teams that require its Speed and offensive presence to keep threats like Azelf and Thundurus-T in check. Checks to Fairy-types are mandatory. Tentacruel and Amoonguss can check Azumarill and Primarina, while Steel-types like Jirachi and Aegislash can help check other Fairy-types like Hatterene and Togekiss. Aegislash can also wear down special walls like Mandibuzz with Toxic and remove Chansey with Close Combat. Nidoking and Tapu Bulu are powerful wallbreakers that Hydreigon can bring in safely with U-turn, allowing them to remove its checks such as Primarina and Mandibuzz. Azelf can form a pivot core with Hydreigon to get it in safely against Pokemon such as Slowking and Aegislash. Entry hazard support from Skarmory and Excadrill can help Hydreigon OHKO Pokemon like Tapu Bulu and Gyarados. Skarmory can also check Dragon Dance Salamence, a setup sweeper Hydreigon is unable to outspeed and revenge kill. Entry hazard removal from Excadrill and Tentacruel is appreciated due to Hydreigon's frequent pivoting. Tentacruel can also wear down Celesteela with Knock Off and punish its Leech Seed thanks to Liquid Ooze.

[SET]
name: Three Attacks
move 1: Dark Pulse
move 2: Draco Meteor
move 3: Flamethrower / Flash Cannon
move 4: Roost
item: Life Orb / Leftovers
ability: Levitate
nature: Timid
evs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

Flamethrower breaks through Tapu Bulu and pressures Celesteela, Amoonguss, and Tangrowth. Fire Blast is an option to 2HKO Celesteela and Assault Vest Tangrowth; however, they can be 2HKOed by Flamethrower after Stealth Rock. Flash Cannon can be used to break through Fairy-types like Tapu Bulu, Diancie, and Togekiss while neutrally hitting Azumarill and Primarina. However, it doesn't do much damage to bulky variants of Primarina. Roost offsets Life Orb recoil and lets Hydreigon use its defensive typing to check foes like Aegislash and Krookodile. Life Orb provides the needed damage boost to get through Pokemon like Amoonguss and Celesteela. Leftovers is an alternative that offsets Stealth Rock damage and potential burns from Pokemon like Slowking and Rotom-W.

Hydreigon fits best on bulky offense and balance teams that value its wallbreaking power, useful typing, and decent Speed. Hydreigon's greatest hurdles are Fairy-types such as Primarina, Togekiss, and Azumarill, so partners capable of removing them like Thundurus-T, Nihilego, and Nidoking are appreciated. Thundurus-T can also break through Chansey, Nihilego and Nidoking can provide Stealth Rock support, and Nihilego is an emergency check to Galarian Moltres, which sets up on Hydreigon. In return, Hydreigon can pressure Slowking for Nihilego and Nidoking. Jirachi is a phenomenal partner, switching into most Fairy-types and safely providing Hydreigon opportunities to wallbreak against Pokemon like Aegislash, Rotom-W, and Swampert with U-turn. Moltres and Slowking can check Excadrill, which ignores Hydreigon's Levitate, and Fighting-types like Cobalion and Conkeldurr. Slowking can also provide Future Sight to help wear down the Fairy-types that switch into Hydreigon. Conkeldurr is a great partner for Hydreigon, as it can break through their shared checks in Fairy-types and remove Chansey. In return, Hydreigon can pressure physical walls such as Slowking and Amoonguss.

[SET]
name: Nasty Plot
move 1: Nasty Plot
move 2: Dark Pulse
move 3: Draco Meteor
move 4: Roost / Flash Cannon
item: Leftovers / Life Orb
ability: Levitate
nature: Timid
evs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

Nasty Plot makes Hydreigon a dangerous wallbreaker; after a boost, it can OHKO Pokemon like Mandibuzz and Amoonguss with Draco Meteor and 2HKO Celesteela with Dark Pulse. Hydreigon should set up against Pokemon it can force out such as Slowking and Rotom-W. Roost alongside Leftovers lets Hydreigon find multiple opportunities to wallbreak. Flash Cannon is an option that breaks through Fairy-types like Togekiss and Tapu Bulu while hitting Primarina and Azumarill for neutral damage. With Life Orb, +2 Flash Cannon can OHKO Togekiss. However, keep in mind that Life Orb will force Hydreigon to use Roost more often and quickly wear down sets lacking Roost.

Nasty Plot Hydreigon can fit on a wide range of offense and balance styles. Entry hazard support from partners like Excadrill, Nihilego, and Jirachi can wear down foes like Azumarill and Tangrowth into KO range of its boosted attacks. These setters also help pressure and switch into Fairy-types like Hatterene and Primarina. Jirachi can also provide Healing Wish support for sets lacking Roost. Ribombee can provide Sticky Web to let Hydreigon beat revenge killers like Lycanroc-D and Jirachi. However, other fast Pokemon like Salamence and Thundurus-T are immune to Sticky Web, so offensive partners like Mamoswine and Lycanroc-D are useful to keep them in check. These partners also remove specially defensive walls like Chansey. Hydreigon can struggle to find setup opportunities, so pivots such as Moltres and Swampert can give it chances against Pokemon like Rotom-W and Slowking. Fighting-type checks such as Primarina, Amoonguss, and the aforementioned Moltres are necessary, as Conkeldurr and Cobalion can easily revenge kill Hydreigon. Late-game cleaners like Excadrill and Azelf appreciate Hydreigon breaking through defensive Pokemon such as Slowking, Celesteela, and Tangrowth.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Hydreigon has a variety of options in the third moveslot of its three attacks set. Defog can be used if entry hazard removal is required. Taunt shuts down Chansey, prevents Primarina from using Rest, and heavily disrupts stall teams. U-turn can generate momentum on challenging Pokemon like Mandibuzz and Primarina. Thunder Wave cripples switch-ins like Nihilego and Azumarill. After paralyzing and weakening the former, Hydreigon can try beating it with Dark Pulse flinches. Choice Specs gives Hydreigon the immediate power necessary to 2HKO Amoonguss with Dark Pulse and possibly 2HKO Mandibuzz with Draco Meteor. However, it still struggles to get past the likes of Primarina and requires more prediction to be effective. Belch is an option with Nasty Plot alongside Sitrus Berry or the combination of Substitute + Salac Berry, OHKOing Primarina and Azumarill after a boost. Superpower can be used to break past Chansey, but it requires a decent amount of chip damage to 2HKO with Life Orb.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Fairy-types**: Fairy-types such as Primarina and Azumarill aren't threatened by Hydreigon and can OHKO it back. Other Fairy-types like Tapu Bulu, Diancie, and Hatterene can defensively check Hydreigon; however, they must beware boosted Flash Cannon.

**Fighting-types**: Cobalion and Keldeo are faster than non-Choice Scarf Hydreigon and OHKO it with their STAB attacks. Conkeldurr is slower than Hydreigon but forces it out with Guts-boosted Mach Punch.

**Specially Defensive Pokemon**: Chansey can wall Hydreigon even after a Nasty Plot boost and proceeds to cripple it with Toxic or use Teleport to bring in a dangerous revenge killer. Mandibuzz is capable of switching into non-Nasty Plot Hydreigon fairly comfortably; however, it will be forced to use Roost after taking Life Orb Draco Meteor if it wants to switch into Hydreigon again. Nihilego has the bulk to switch into Hydreigon several times and force it out.

**Faster Pokemon and Priority Users**: Thundurus-T and Salamence are faster than Hydreigon and threaten to KO it; however, they must be wary of Choice Scarf variants. Lycanroc-D and Zygarde-10% also outspeed Hydreigon and have priority moves, making them less susceptible to Choice Scarf Hydreigon. Mamoswine can revenge kill Hydreigon with Ice Shard.

- Hydreigon is a dangerous wallbreaker within the UU tier thanks to its high Special Attack and respectable Speed tier.

- Hydreigon's STAB combination provides near-perfect coverage to hit everything in the tier super-effectively or neutrally aside from Chansey and Fairy-types such as Primarina and Tapu Bulu.

- It is equipped with a diverse movepool allowing it to fulfill many roles for any team such as a Choice Scarf user capable of revenge killing threats like Dragon Dance Gyarados or a powerful wallbreaker after a Nasty Plot boost. It also has more utility options in its arsenal allowing it to utilize options such as Thunder Wave and Defog. these are OO stuff so leave them out of the OP

- Hydreigon's typing and ability boasts many useful resistances letting it check foes like Swampert and Chandelure. However, its typing comes with a lot of weaknesses to common types limiting the number of opportunities it can come in. Aegislash, Krookodile, and Crawdaunt can threaten it with a Close Combat while Pokemon like Zarude and Mandibuzz will wear it down with U-turn. I'd rather have this section be more about the presence of common fighters and fairies like conk, shao, prim, azu in the metagame rather than coverage on some mons. I'd still keep info about Pokemon like aegi and azelf who carry these coverage moves as well as the u-turn weakness though.

- Hydreigon's Speed tier, (AC) while decent, (AC) leaves it vulnerable to being forced out by many faster threats such as Jirachi, Thundurus-T, and Salamence.

- While its diverse movepool gives Hydreigon the means to play around its checks, it struggles to fit them as Dark Pulse and Draco Meteor are both difficult to give up.

[SET COMMENTS]

Paragraph 1
-maybe add a line on the near unresisted stab combo here? Its sorta self explanatory and would get repetitive in later sets but imo it's worth mentioning at least once on the first set the reader sees
- Flamethrower allows Hydreigon to break through Tapu Bulu, while getting past Celesteela, Amoonguss, and Tangrowth more easily.

- Fire Blast is an option for its added power allowing it to 2HKO Celesteela and Assault Vest Tangrowth; however, they can be brought into 2HKO range of Flamethrower after Stealth Rock without the accuracy drawback.

- Flash Cannon can be used to break through Fairy-types like Tapu Bulu and Togekiss, while neutrally hitting Azumarill and Primarina. However, it fails to do much to bulky variants of Primarina.

- Roost provides the needed longevity to offset the Life Orb LO recoil and lets Hydreigon use its defensive typing to check foes like Aegislash and Krookodile.

- Life Orb provides the needed damage boost to allow Hydreigon to get through Pokemon like Amoonguss and Celesteela. It also limits offensive Azumarill as a Dark Pulse pivot once with Stealth Rock rocks up.

- Leftovers is an alternative option that provides passive recovery, notably offsetting Stealth Rock damage and potential burns it could be inflicted with switching into Pokemon like Slowking and Rotom-W.

Paragraph 2
- This Hydreigon set fits best on bulky offense and balance teams that value the wallbreaking power it can provide alongside its useful typing and decent Speed tier.

- Hydreigon's greatest hurdle is the tier's Fairy-types such as Primarina, Togekiss, and Azumarill so partners capable of removing them like Thundurus-T, Nihilego, and Nidoking are appreciated. Thundurus-T can also break through Chansey for Hydreigon, while the latter two can provide Stealth Rock support to help Hydreigon break past Celesteela and Tangrowth more easily. In return, Hydreigon can pressure Slowking for Nihilego and Nidoking. add how nihilego can check galarian moltres who hydreigon gives setup opportunities too

- Jirachi is a phenomenal partner for Hydreigon as it can switch into most Fairy-types like Hatterene and also bring Hydreigon in safely with U-turn on Pokemon such as Aegislash, Rotom-W, and Swampert to wallbreak. Jirachi can also provide entry hazard support.

- Moltres and Slowking can help check many of the tier's Fighting-types like Mienshao and Conkeldurr that force Hydreigon out. Slowking can also provide Future Sight support to help wear down the Fairy-types that attempt to pivot into Hydreigon while Moltres can help pivot into Excadrill, as Excadrill's Mold Breaker prevents Hydreigon from switching into its Earthquake.

- Conkeldurr and Life Orb Mienshao are capable of breaking through all the Fairy-types in the tier and can remove Chansey for Hydreigon. In return, Hydreigon can pressure the physical walls such as Slowking and Amoonguss that may attempt to pivot into them.

-talk about some pokemon that can handle common revenge killers to hydreigon

Paragraph 1
- Hydreigon is a fantastic Choice Scarf user capable of revenge killing threats like Speed-boosting Kommo-o and Dragon Dance Gyarados.

- U-turn is mandatory to get Hydreigon out of unfavorable matchups against the likes of Chansey and Primarina.

- Hydreigon can be very flexible in this last slot. Fire Blast is an option to revenge kill Tapu Bulu and make it easier to break through Steel-types like Excadrill, Skarmory, and Celesteela.

- Defog can be compressed onto this set if removal is required while Roost can provide some longevity. This can be very useful if you let Hydreigon take a Knock Off in a matchup where it doesn't need its Choice Scarf.

Paragraph 2
- This set fits best on bulky offense teams that require the Speed control to keep threats like Kommo-o and Thundurus-T in check while still providing a strong offensive presence.

- Checks to Fairy-types are mandatory as Hydreigon will easily give them free turns. Tentacruel and Amoonguss can check Azumarill and Primarina, while Steel-types like Jirachi and Aegislash can help check other Fairy-types like Hatterene and Togekiss. Aegislash is capable of wearing down special walls like Mandibuzz with Toxic and can lure and weaken Chansey with Close Combat for Hydreigon.

- Nidoking and Tapu Bulu are powerful wallbreakers that appreciate Hydreigon bringing them in safely with U-turn to remove its checks such as Primarina and Mandibuzz.

-talk about some secondary pivots to form voltturn cores

- Entry hazard support from Skarmory and Excadrill can help wear down Pokemon like Tapu Bulu and Gyarados into OHKO range of its attacks. Skarmory can also check Dragon Dance Salamence for Hydreigon, a setup sweeper it is unable to outspeed and revenge kill.

-talk about entry hazard control from excadrill and tentacruel to let hydreigon drop defog and not get worn down by rocks as it comes in and out

Paragraph 1
- Nasty Plot makes Hydreigon a dangerous wallbreaker. After a boost, it can threaten to OHKO foes like Mandibuzz and Amoonguss with Draco Meteor and 2HKO Celesteela with Dark Pulse. Hydreigon should attempt to set up a Nasty Plot against Pokemon it can force out such as Slowking and Rotom-W.

- Roost alongside Leftovers provides Hydreigon with the longevity to find multiple opportunities to wallbreak.

- Flash Cannon is an option that allows Hydreigon to break through Fairy-types like Togekiss and Tapu Bulu while hitting Primarina and Azumarill for neutral damage.

- Life Orb is an option for the notable damage increase letting it threaten the aforementioned defensive walls more easily. Keep in mind this will force Hydreigon to use Roost more often and on sets running three attacks it will wear itself down quickly.

Paragraph 2
- Nasty Plot Hydreigon can fit on a wide range of playstyles from offense to balance.

- Entry hazard support from partners like Excadrill, Nihilego, and Jirachi can help wear down foes like Azumarill and Tangrowth into range of its boosted attacks. They can also help pressure and pivot into Fairy-types like Hatterene and Primarina for Hydreigon. Jirachi can also provide Healing Wish support for sets lacking reliable recovery.

- Ribombee can provide Sticky Web support to prevent faster foes like Mienshao, Lycanroc-D, and Jirachi from revenge killing Hydreigon. However, Hydreigon is still vulnerable to being revenge killed by faster Pokemon like Salamence and Thundurus-T immune to Sticky Web so offensive partners like Mamoswine and Lycanroc-D can help keep them in check while also removing specially defensive walls like Chansey.

- Hydreigon can struggle to find opportunities to set up a Nasty Plot so pivots such as Moltres and Mienshao can provide it with chances to do so against Pokemon like Rotom-W and Slowking. Mienshao can also help lure in and remove Fairy-types with Poison Jab for Hydreigon.

- Fighting-type checks are necessary as Mienshao, Conkeldurr, and Cobalion can easily revenge kill Hydreigon. Primarina and Amoonguss can keep them in check.

- Late-game cleaners like Excadrill and Azelf appreciate Hydreigon's ability to break through defensive Pokemon such as Slowking, Celesteela, and Tangrowth.

Other Options
=============

- Hydreigon has a variety of options worth considering over the third coverage option in its three attack set. Defog can be used if entry hazard removal is required.

- Taunt can be used to shut down Pokemon like Chansey and prevent Primarina from using Rest. I'd also add on saying it has an excellent matchup against stall in general to further describe taunt sets

- U-turn can be ran to generate momentum on Pokemon like Mandibuzz and Primarina.

- Thunder Wave lets Hydreigon cripple its switchins like Nihilego and Azumarill. It can potentially try and flinch through the former with Dark Pulse once weakened enough.

- Choice Specs gives Hydreigon the immediate power necessary to 2HKO Amoonguss with Dark Pulse and have a chance to 2HKO Mandibuzz with Draco Meteor. However, it will still struggle to get past the likes of Primarina and requires more prediction to be effective.

- Belch is an option if used alongside a Sitrus Berry or the combination of Substitute + Salac Berry to let Hydreigon OHKO Primarina and Azumarill after a Nasty Plot boost.

- Superpower can be used to break past Chansey but it requires a decent amount of chip damage to bring it in 2HKO range of a Life Orb-boosted Superpower.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Fairy-types**: Fairy-types such as Primarina and Azumarill resist Hydreigon's STAB attacks and its coverage and can OHKO it back. Other Fairy-types like Tapu Bulu and Hatterene can check Hydreigon; however, they have to be more wary of taking a boosted Flash Cannon.

**Fighting-types**: Mienshao, Cobalion, and Keldeo are faster than non-Choice Scarf Hydreigon and threaten to OHKO it with their STAB attacks. Conkeldurr is slower than Hydreigon; however, it is capable of forcing it out with the threat of a Guts-boosted Mach Punch.

**Specially Defensive Pokemon**: Chansey is capable of walling Hydreigon even after a Nasty Plot boost and proceed to cripple it with Toxic or Teleport out to bring in a faster partner capable of revenge killing it. Mandibuzz is capable of pivoting into non-Nasty Plot Hydreigon fairly comfortably; however, it will be forced to Roost after taking a Life Orb-boosted Draco Meteor if it wants to pivot into Hydreigon again. Nihilego has the bulk to pivot into Hydreigon several times and threatens it out.

**Faster Pokemon**: Thundurus-T, Salamence, Lycanroc-D, and Zygarde-10% are all faster than non-Choice Scarf Hydreigon and threaten to KO it. I'd add they fear a potential choice scarf set that can easily revenge kill them

[OVERVIEW]

- Hydreigon is a dangerous wallbreaker within the UU tier thanks to its high Special Attack and respectable Speed tier.

- Hydreigon's STAB combination provides near-perfect coverage to hit everything in the tier super-effectively or neutrally aside from Chansey and Fairy-types such as Primarina and Tapu Bulu.
you could condense these two with something like "Hydreigon is a dangerous wallbreaker within the UU tier thanks to its high Special Attack, respectable speed tier, and near perfect coverage with its STAB combination." The chansey and fairy mentions seem funky to mention here when they're a point against Hydreigon so I'd put that lower down the overview

- It is equipped with a diverse movepool allowing it to fulfill many roles for any team such as a Choice Scarf user capable of revenge killing threats like Dragon Dance Gyarados or a powerful wallbreaker after a Nasty Plot boost.

- Hydreigon's typing and ability boasts many useful resistances letting it check foes like Swampert and Chandelure. However, its typing comes with a lot of weaknesses to common types limiting the number of opportunities it can come in. Aegislash, and Krookodile, and Crawdaunt can threaten it with a Close Combat while Pokemon like Zarude and Mandibuzz will wear it down with U-turn. I haven't found CC to be common enough at all on daunt to warrant a mention, it can't really fit it on the SD set between Crabhammer, Knock, and Jet and band faces a lot of competition from Azu.

- The tier has an abundance of common Fighting-types such as Conkeldurr and Mienshao that greatly limit the effectiveness of Hydreigon. Due to Hydreigon having few defensive checks it naturally encourages the use of more Fairy-types like Primarina, which it struggles to break through.

- Hydreigon's Speed tier, while decent, leaves it vulnerable to being forced out by many faster threats such as Jirachi, Thundurus-T, and Salamence.

- While its diverse movepool gives Hydreigon the means to play around its checks, it struggles to fit them as Dark Pulse and Draco Meteor are both difficult to give up.

[SET COMMENTS]

Paragraph 1
- Hydreigon's STAB combination is only resisted by very few Pokemon, allowing it to sufficiently break a majority of the tier with two moves alone. I'm on the fence about keeping this since you similarly mentioned this before in the overview

However, it fails to do much to bulky variants of Primarina. no mention of Diancie? it's the first thing I think of when I hear targets for flash cannon

- Roost provides the needed longevity to offset the Life Orb recoil and lets Hydreigon use its defensive typing to check foes like Aegislash and Krookodile.

- Life Orb provides the needed damage boost to allow Hydreigon to get through Pokemon like Amoonguss and Celesteela. It also limits offensive Azumarill as a Dark Pulse pivot once with Stealth Rock up.

Thundurus-T can also break through Chansey for Hydreigon, while the latter two can provide Stealth Rock support to help Hydreigon break past Celesteela and Tangrowth more easily. Nihilego can also act as an emergency check to Galarian Moltres who Hydreigon provides a setup opportunity to. In return, Hydreigon can pressure Slowking for Nihilego and Nidoking.

- Jirachi is a phenomenal partner for Hydreigon as it can switch into most Fairy-types like Hatterene and also bring Hydreigon in safely with U-turn on Pokemon such as Aegislash, Rotom-W, and Swampert to wallbreak. Jirachi can also provide entry hazard support. this part feels like it can be condensed since rocks and uturn both support Hydreigon's wall breaking capabilities

However, Hydreigon is still vulnerable to being revenge killed by faster Pokemon immune to Sticky Web like Salamence and Thundurus-T immune to Sticky Web so offensive partners like Mamoswine and Lycanroc-D can help keep them in check while also removing specially defensive walls like Chansey.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

- Hydreigon has a variety of options worth considering over the third coverage option in its three attack set. Defog can be used if entry hazard removal is required.

- Taunt can be used to shut down Pokemon like Chansey and prevent Primarina from using Rest. It also allows Hydreigon to heavily disrupt stall teams.

===================

**Fairy-types**: Fairy-types such as Primarina and Azumarill resist Hydreigon's STAB attacks and its coverage and can OHKO it back. Other Fairy-types like Tapu Bulu and Hatterene can check Hydreigon; however, they have to be more wary of taking a boosted Flash Cannon. you don't have to but consider putting Diancie in here too

**Faster Pokemon**: Thundurus-T, Salamence, Lycanroc-D, and Zygarde-10% are all faster than Hydreigon and threaten to KO it; however, they must be wary of Choice Scarf variants.

[OVERVIEW]

Hydreigon is a dangerous Pokemon in the UU tier thanks to its high Special Attack, respectable Speed tier, and amazing STAB combination. These factors alongside its diverse movepool allow Hydreigon to run a multitude of different set combinations to meet a team's needs, ranging from being an effective form of Speed control with a Choice Scarf to a devastating wallbreaker after a Nasty Plot. I'd find a way to more clearly roost + 3 attacks here since it's the first set listed. Hydreigon's typing and ability provide many useful resistances letting it check Pokemon such as Swampert and Chandelure. However, Hydreigon's typing also has weaknesses to a lot of common types, limiting the number of opportunities it can realistically switchin. Aegislash and Krookodile maybe Lycanroc-D as your example instead of Krook here can threaten it with Close Combat while Pokemon like Zarude and Mandibuzz will wear it down with U-turn. While Hydreigon has a great offensive typing it has a major flaw, difficulty breaking through Fairy-types, particularly Primarina and Azumarill as their typing takes neutral damage from Flash Cannon. Hydreigon is also completely walled by Chansey even after multiple Nasty Plot boosts. Common Fighting-types such as Conkeldurr and Cobalion can revenge kill Hydreigon and use it as an opportunity to wallbreak. Hydreigon's Speed tier, while decent, leaves it forced out by many faster Pokemon such as Jirachi, Thundurus-T, and Salamence. Although Hydreigon has a diverse movepool it struggles to fit most of them as Dark Pulse and Draco Meteor are both difficult to give up. I feel like instead of mentioning how hard STABs are to give up you can mention how this leads to it being unable to cover everything it'd like, such as opting for Flamethrower leaving it walled by Fairy-types but with Flash Cannon it doesn't break stuff like Celesteela as efficiently.

[SET]
name: Three Attacks
move 1: Dark Pulse
move 2: Draco Meteor
move 3: Flamethrower / Flash Cannon
move 4: Roost
item: Life Orb / Leftovers
ability: Levitate
nature: Timid

[SET COMMENTS]

Flamethrower allows Hydreigon to break through Tapu Bulu, while getting past Celesteela, Amoonguss, and Tangrowth more easily. Fire Blast is an option for its added power to 2HKO Celesteela and Assault Vest Tangrowth; however, they can both be brought into 2HKO range of Flamethrower after Stealth Rock without the accuracy drawback. Flash Cannon can be used to break through Fairy-types like Tapu Bulu, Diancie, and Togekiss, while neutrally hitting Azumarill and Primarina. However, it fails to do much damage to bulky variants of Primarina. Roost provides the needed longevity to offset Life Orb recoil and lets Hydreigon use its defensive typing to check foes like Aegislash and Krookodile. Life Orb provides the needed damage boost to allow Hydreigon to get through Pokemon like Amoonguss and Celesteela. Leftovers is an alternative option that provides passive recovery to offset Stealth Rock damage and potential burns it could be inflicted with by switching into Pokemon like Slowking and Rotom-W.

Hydreigon fits best on bulky offense and balance teams that value the wallbreaking power it can provide alongside its useful typing and decent Speed tier. Hydreigon's greatest hurdle are the tier's Fairy-types such as Primarina, Togekiss, and Azumarill so partners capable of removing them like Thundurus-T, Nihilego, and Nidoking are appreciated. Jirachi is a phenomenal partner for Hydreigon as it can switch into most Fairy-types and provide Hydreigon with opportunities to wallbreak against Pokemon like Aegislash, Rotom-W, and Swampert by bringing it in safely with U-turn. Moltres and Slowking can help check Fighting-types like Cobalion and Conkeldurr that force Hydreigon out. Slowking can also provide Future Sight support to help wear down the Fairy-types that attempt to pivot into Hydreigon. Both also help pivot into Excadrill, as Excadrill's Mold Breaker prevents Hydreigon from switching into Earthquake. Conkeldurr is capable of breaking through all the Fairy-types in the tier I'd maybe more clearly frame this in a way that states that Conk can help overwhelm its shared checks (Fairies) with Hydreigon, since it sort of implies here that it can reliably 1v1 all of them and can remove Chansey for Hydreigon. In return, Hydreigon can pressure the physical walls such as Slowking and Amoonguss.

[SET COMMENTS]

Hydreigon is a fantastic Choice Scarf user capable of revenge killing threats like Zygarde-10% and Dragon Dance Gyarados. U-turn is mandatory to get Hydreigon out of unfavorable matchups against the likes of Chansey and Primarina. Hydreigon can be very flexible in the last slot. Fire Blast is an option to revenge kill Tapu Bulu and make it easier to break through Steel-types like Excadrill, Skarmory, and Celesteela. Defog can be compressed onto this set if removal is required while Roost can provide some longevity. This can be very useful if you let Hydreigon take a Knock Off in a matchup where it doesn't require its Choice Scarf. Maybe also note that Roost can allow it to switch into stuff like Rotoms throughout a match.

Choice Scarf Hydreigon fits best on bulky offense teams that require the Speed control to keep threats like Azelf and Thundurus-T in check while still providing a strong offensive presence. Checks to Fairy-types are mandatory as Hydreigon will easily give them free turns. Tentacruel and Amoonguss can check Azumarill and Primarina, while Steel-types like Jirachi and Aegislash can help check other Fairy-types like Hatterene and Togekiss. Aegislash is also capable of wearing down special walls like Mandibuzz with Toxic and can remove Chansey with Close Combat for Hydreigon. Nidoking and Tapu Bulu are powerful wallbreakers that Hydreigon can bring in safely with U-turn to remove its checks such as Primarina and Mandibuzz. Azelf can form a pivot core with Hydreigon to get it in safely against Pokemon such as Slowking and Aegislash to find opportunities to fire off strong attacks. Entry hazard support from Skarmory and Excadrill can help wear down Pokemon like Tapu Bulu and Gyarados into OHKO range of its attacks. Skarmory can also check Dragon Dance Salamence for Hydreigon, a setup sweeper it is unable to outspeed and revenge kill. Entry hazard removal from Excadrill and Tentacruel is appreciated to stop Hydreigon from being worn down by Stealth Rock. Tentacruel can also pivot into Azumarill and Primarina, as well as wear down Celesteela with Knock Off and prevent it from recovering health with Leech Seed thanks to Liquid Ooze.

[SET COMMENTS]

Nasty Plot makes Hydreigon a dangerous wallbreaker as after a boost it can OHKO Pokemon like Mandibuzz and Amoonguss with Draco Meteor and 2HKO Celesteela with Dark Pulse. Hydreigon should attempt to set up a Nasty Plot against Pokemon it can force out such as Slowking and Rotom-W. Roost alongside Leftovers provides Hydreigon with the longevity to find multiple opportunities to wallbreak. Flash Cannon is an option that allows Hydreigon to break through Fairy-types like Togekiss and Tapu Bulu while hitting Primarina and Azumarill for neutral damage. Life Orb is an option for the damage boost, notably allowing it to OHKO Togekiss with a Nasty Plot-boosted Flash Cannon. However, keep in mind this will force Hydreigon to use Roost more often and on sets lacking Roost it will wear itself down quickly.

Nasty Plot Hydreigon can fit on a wide range of playstyles from offense to balance. Entry hazard support from partners like Excadrill, Nihilego, and Jirachi can help wear down foes like Azumarill and Tangrowth into range of its boosted attacks. They can also help pressure and pivot into Fairy-types like Hatterene and Primarina for Hydreigon. Jirachi can also provide Healing Wish support for sets lacking reliable recovery. Ribombee can provide Sticky Web support to prevent faster foes like Lycanroc-D and Jirachi from revenge killing Hydreigon. However, Hydreigon is still vulnerable to being revenge killed by faster Pokemon immune to Sticky Web like Salamence and Thundurus-T so offensive partners like Mamoswine and Lycanroc-D can help keep them in check while also removing specially defensive walls like Chansey. Belch feels like super niche to me but up to you if you wanna keep it. Superpower can be used to break past Chansey but it requires a decent amount of chip to bring it in 2HKO range of a Life Orb-boosted Superpower.

Checks and Counters

**Fairy-types**: Fairy-types such as Primarina and Azumarill resist Hydreigon's STAB attacks and its coverage they don't resist its coverage, so instead just say they aren't threatened by it and can OHKO it back. Other Fairy-types like Tapu Bulu, Diancie, and Hatterene can check Hydreigon; however, they have to be warier of taking a boosted Flash Cannon.

**Fighting-types**: Cobalion and Keldeo are faster than non-Choice Scarf Hydreigon and threaten to OHKO it with their STAB attacks. Conkeldurr is slower than Hydreigon; however, it is capable of forcing it out with the threat of a Guts-boosted Mach Punch.

Entry hazard removal from Excadrill and Tentacruel is appreciated to stop Hydreigon from being worn down by Stealth Rock. due to Hydreigon's frequent pivoting. Tentacruel can also switch into Azumarill and Primarina, as well as wear down Celesteela with Knock Off and prevent it from recovering health with Leech Seed thanks to Liquid Ooze.

Hydreigon's typing and ability are quite useful defensively to check for checking Pokemon such as Swampert and Chandelure. Despite its great offensive typing, Hydreigon struggles to break through Fairy-types—particularly Primarina and Azumarill, as they take neutral damage from Flash Cannon. It also has four-moveslot syndrome—Flash Cannon is needed for Fairy-types but Flamethrower is needed for Celesteela—and it is completely walled by Chansey even after multiple Nasty Plot boosts. Despite its decent Speed, Hydreigon is outsped by many Pokemon such as Jirachi, Thundurus-T, and Salamence.
