[Overview]
- Fantastic movepool and mixed attacking stats make Hydreigon a very dangerous pokemon in a very fast paced metagame full of frail sweepers.
- BW2 gave Hydreigon Roost and Superpower making it one of the best Wallbreakers in the metagame
- Nice Bulk is a good bones for an offensive Pokemon like Hydreigon
[SET]
name: Substitute+3 Attacks
move 1: Dragon Pulse
move 2: Fire Blast/Surf/Focus Blast
move 3: Focus Blast/Surf/Fire Blast
move 4: Substitute
item: Leftovers/Expert Belt
nature: Timid
evs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
ability: Levitate
[SET COMMENTS]
- Hydreigon forces many switches because of its ability to KO a vast majority of the metagame make a substitute set viable.
- Find lots of places to set up on Pokemon like Ferrothorn, Rotom-W and Skarmory
[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]
- Dragon Pulse combined with a huge 383 Special Attack and STAB will be able to dent or KO a large majority of Hydreigon switch ins.
- Last 2 moves is your choice, Fire Blast give you better coverage but Surf works better under rain and is better to use to Kill heatran instead of Superpower because it has no stat drops.Focus Blast is not as reliable but will grant you a OHKO on Tyranitar and Heatran
- Leftovers is the best item to use as it provides Hydreigon with a good form of recovery when behind the substitute.
- Expert Belt can be used to bluff a choice item early on so the opponent does not expect substitute.
[SET]

move 2: Super Power
move 3: Fire Blast
move 4: Dark Pulse/Roost
item: Life Orb/Expert Belt
nature: Naive/Hasty
evs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]
- Able to run through common stall teams with cores such as Skarm Bliss if used with correct prediction
- Puts lots of pressure on opponent making almost every switch into hydreigon risky
[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]
- Draco Meteor is the crux of the set denting or KOing anything that does not resist it.Great move to spam during games to rip holes in teams
- Superpower gets a clean OHKO on Tyranitar and 2HKOs Blissey while Chansey is 2hkO'd with some previous damage
- Fire Blast helps beat common Pokemon seen in the current metagame like Skarmory, Ferrothorn and Jirachi and gives good coverage with Draco Meteor and Super Power
- Dark Pulse can be used to get OHKOs on the likes of Slowbro and Jellicent
- Roost is the better option to make Hydreigon last longer if you are running a Life Orb
[SET]
name: Offensive Roost
move 1: Draco Meteor
move 2: Fire Blast
move 3: Earth Power/Surf/Focus Blast
move 4: Roost
item: Life Orb
nature: Modest
evs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
ability: Levitate
[SET COMMENTS]
- Aims to use destructive power of a 380+ Special Attack stat coupled with Life Orb and Roost to remain a constant threat for long periods of the game
- Ability to change moves and hit hard is what sets it apart from choice sets
[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]
- Draco Meteor is the crux of the set denting or KOing anything that does not resist it.Great move to spam during games to rip holes in teams
- Fire Blast alongside Draco Meteor like all other sets gives great coverage hitting almost everything that Draco Meteor cannot
- Earth Power is used to hit heatran and also hits Jirachi under Rain for better damage than Fire Blast
- Focus Blast can be used for the 3rd move to get a OHKO on Tyranitar
- Surf is a good coverage move in the 3rd Attack slot and hits Heatran for good damage and works especially well under Rain.
- Roost lets Hydreigon stay alive for long periods of the game keeping it as a constant threat to the opponent
[SET]
name: Choice Scarf
move 1: Draco Meteor/Dragon Pulse
move 2: Fire Blast
move 3: SuperPower
move 4: U-Turn
item: Choice Scarf
nature: Naive
evs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
ability: Levitate
[SET COMMENTS]
- Great Revenge Killer
- Not Pursuit Bait like Latios
[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]
- Draco Meteor is standard hit and run denting everything that does not resist it
- Fire Blast gives god coverage alongside Draco Meteor hitting Steel types like Skarmory and Ferrothorn
- Superpower lets you get a OHKO on Tyranitars and can beat Pink Blob switching in to Hydreigon.
- U-Turn not only helps scout the opponents team but can hit the likes of Starmie etc. for super effective damage
[SET]
name: Choice Specs
move 1: Draco Meteor
move 2: Dragon Pulse
move 3: Fire Blast
move 4: Focus Blast/Earth Power
item: Choice Specs
nature: Timid
evs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
ability: Levitate
[SET COMMENTS]
- Aims to hit as hard as possible with that monster of a special attack stat.
- Draco Meteor spam alone is enough to atleast 2HKO almost the entire metagame.
- If locked into a wrong move it does not turn into pursuit bait like Latios, thats what this set has over Latios.
- This set forces a lot of switches so entry hazards help alot.
[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]
- Draco Meteor is great because it can OHKO almost everything that does not resist it and is a great STAB move to have because of the holes it creates in the opponents team.
- Dragon Pulse can oull off a late game sweep if you need to hit more than one target unlike Draco Meteor.
- Fire Blast is used for steel types that will try to switch in expecting a Draco Meteor
- Focus Blast hits Heatran and Tyranitar for a OHKO
- Earth power can be used as a more reliable move than Focus Blast still getting the KO on most heatrans and gets a 2HKO on Tyranitar, Focus Blast is better overall but Earth Power is still a good option
[Other options]
- Flamethrower or Heat Wave can be used over Fire Blast for better accuracy but you may miss out on some vital KOs, Heatwave has more power than flamethrower but misses out on some accuracy.
- Dark Pulse and Earth Power can both be used on the same set now in BW2
- U Turn is an option on the Choice Specs set to scout
- Taunt is a great option for the 4th move in the wall breaker to play around and destroy stall even more
- a Sub Torment set is possible and can work out with Roost but honestly is outclassed by the likes of Heatarn
- Entry Hazards such as Stealth Rock and Spikes or even Toxic Spikes[If you run a Sub+ 3 Attacks set} really help Hydreigon because of the amount of switches he causes
- Earth Power is viable on all sets over Fire Blast or Focus Blast/Superpower if you think it is necessary, it is a more reliable way to hit Heatran and Jirachi than Fire Blast and Focus Blast
- A substitute+Charge Beam set is viable on rain teams with Sub/Charge Beam/Dragon Pulse/Surf once Ferrothorn is taken care of
- Tailwind is a nice option to raise Hydreigon's average speed compared to other offensive dragons to very high levels for 3 turns making it almost impossible to revenge without priority and also lets Hydreigon go on a mini sweep
[Checks and counters]
- No Pokemon can really switch into Hydreigon because of the amount of sets it can run and the coverage it gets.
- Ferrothorn, Specially Defensive Jirachi and Pink Blobs can all tank draco meteors putting Hydreigon at -2 or -1(Specs) which will make it lose a lot of Raw power.
- If Breloom manages to get in on a Roost or Surf it can OHKO with Mach Punch while Scizor can OHKO with Bullet Punch when Hydreigon is at less than 70% but neither can witch in safely
- Speedy Fighting-types such as Infernape and Terrakion can exploit Hydreigon's average Speed and KO it with their powerful STAB attacks.
