Chien-Pao is a strong wallbreaker thanks to its high Attack and excellent STAB combination accompanied by a blazing fast Speed tier that outpaces all unboosted Pokemon bar Regieleki, Hisuian Electrode, and Barraskewda. It breaks holes in the opponent's defensive core for teammates like Roaring Moon and Kingambit to exploit, or it can sweep when a teammate like Garchomp or Zamazenta has weakened its checks. Ice Shard is useful priority for KOing weakened faster Pokemon such as +1 Fluffy Roaring Moon, Choice Scarf Meowscarada, and Choice Scarf Galarian Zapdos. Sacred Sword forgoes this utility for extra OHKOes against Greninja and Kingambit, as well as Hisuian Goodra after Spikes; it can also help revenge kill Zamazenta-C as Sacred Sword. Using Adaptability on Chien-Pao means its set is not immediately revealed and a teammate like Meowscarada can use Sword of Ruin. Life Orb is necessary for +2 Chien-Pao to OHKO many bulkier Pokemon like Heatran despite having to give up Heavy-Duty Boots and receiving recoil. Chien-Pao cannot break certian physically defensive Pokemon like Quaquaval, Unaware Scream Tail, and Intimidate Corviknight without significant chip, so teammates like Thundurus and Zapdos that can deal significant damage to them are recommended. Chien-Pao also appreciates defensive teammates like Corviknight, Iron Treads, and Quaquaval, which all can remove entry hazards for it and pivot Chien-Pao in safely.
