So Tommy and I were thinking of hosting a Pokemon RP- you the player character would be part of a pokemon mercenary company running around on missions PMD-style. Each player character starts with one partner pokemon, whose base stats are divided by 10 to give their starting stats. Battles involve multiple players. who move themselves and their pokemon across the map dealing with enemies on a grid. Combat works FE-style for the most part. Pokemon would have growths like FE, which would more or less equal to their BST. You can start with any pokemon, and weaker pokemon might receive modifications to their growths/stat totals or other unique bonuses to stay competitive with the rest of the cast.

GMs would be splitting the cast into 2 groups for non-combat RP and host sessions to get the plot moving, but combat for the most part would be resolved like how we resolve our diplo or mafia games.

But that's just combat. The idea of the setting would be to explore PMD-kinda missions from a) a human viewpoint and b) in a steampunk setting, although it could be possible to date it back to something medieval too. If you're interested, post in the thread, and if there are any suggestions or mechanics or settings that you'd like to see you can post that in here too.

Note that Pokemon in general is vast so trying to balance all the mechanics into a grid-based combat setting at the beginning uniformly might be difficult, but we hope to handle the challenges as they come, instead of preparing for each and every possibility.

I would need an explainer of FE combat mech (esp. pertaining to this game) before I would consider signing up, but this looks interesting!

So if you've played Final Fantasy Tactics or Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, you'd be familiar with controlling playable characters on a grid layout. Your army moves around the grid and combats the enemy, like controlling pieces on a chessboard. The difference is that in Fire Emblem, there's a Player Phase and an Enemy Phase. On the Player Phase, the player moves all of their units to attack the enemy, engaging them in a round of combat. Enemies can also counter attack in a round of combat. Then its the Enemy Phase where the enemies move and engage you in a round of combat. In this RP, the player isn't getting into 1v1s with other trainers, rather, a party of player characters are going to combat a party of trainers.

Every time you damage or ko a mon, you gain a certain amount of exp. Whenever you get 100 exp, you level up. Upon leveling up, you may or may not gain stats based on growth percentages. At the start of the game, your growths are=your base stat. Let's take Flygon, it has a base stat of 80 in HP. Therefore its growth rate in HP is 80%. Every time it levels up, roll a 1d100(or 1d10). If the number is above 80, Flygon doesn't gain HP, otherwise it procs a point in HP.

Also each pokemon "move" is like a "weapon" that is equipped for combat. So if flygon used earthpower as a move during player phase, then during the enemy phase, it will use earth power as a move to counterattack all enemies.

That's the gist of it. Lemme know if you have any other questions.

is the threshold for doubling still 4 speed?

A couple of people have raised an opinion that they'd want to play in a pokemon-only RP, so I'm leaving it to a poll: do you want a world with humans and pokemon coexisting, or a pokemon only world?
