It's a Trap!
Since the introduction of Arena Trap, Magnet Pull, and Shadow Tag in Generation 3, trapping has become a central part of Pokemon (and was particularly dominant in ADV OU). In Generation 2, while moves like Mean Look were around, trapping was not as central and influential as it would become in later generations. However, what if trapping abilities had been "released" a little bit earlier than the other abilities? What if Arena Trap, Magnet Pull, and Shadow Tag were available in Generation 2?

Tournament Rules and Clauses:
  • GSC OU
  • The abilities Magnet Pull, Arena Trap, and Shadow Tag "exist" in this tournament.
  • All battles are best-of-three, single elimination.
  • Battles should take place on either the PS! or Smogtours servers, under the GSC OU metagame.
  • The winners/losers of each battle are required to provide the host with a replay. They can do so by posting the replay in the thread or PMing me with the replay. Only one player from each battle is required to do so.
  • Standard GSC OU banlist and clauses are in affect.
  • All general tournament rules apply (they can be found here).
Any players that are caught cheating or breaking any of the rules described above will be disqualified from the tournament.

How does this tournament work if there are no abilities in GSC OU?
In this tournament, because abilities do not yet exist, players are required to follow certain rules when certain Pokemon are in.
  • If a Pokemon with Arena Trap is active in battle, the opponent will not be allowed to switch out their Pokemon UNLESS their Pokemon is a Flying-type or a Ghost-type.
  • If a Pokemon with Magnet Pull is active in battle, the opponent will not be allowed to switch out their Pokemon IF it is a Steel-type.
  • If a Pokemon with Shadow Tag is active in battle, the opponent will not allowed to switch out their Pokemon UNLESS it is a Ghost-type or it also has Shadow Tag.
I ask all participants to please remind their opponent of the rules throughout the match, as we don't want any problems to arise from someone accidentally switching out when they shouldn't have.

Just like the actual abilities themselves, Pokemon that are trapped can still escape using Baton Pass.

As for the Pokemon that get these trapping abilities:
  • The following Pokemon receive Magnet Pull: Magnemite, Magneton
  • The following Pokemon receive Arena Trap: Diglett, Dugtrio
  • The following Pokemon receive Shadow Tag: Wobbuffet
Additional Information:
  • Rounds will last about a week each. If players do not complete their battles and neither of the players have decided who should take the win, a coin-flip will decide who will move on.
  • While players are not required to build new teams each round, it is recommended to prevent counter-teaming.
  • Signups will last for about a week.

I'm a bit confused about the rules in regards to ghost types. The ghost type immunity to trapping (gen 6 onwards) applies to both Shadow Tag and Arena Trap, while you only mention it in regards to Shadow Tag. Additionally, Arena Trap users can trap each other, while you say they do not.

Whoops, probably switched up a few things while writing up the rules. OP has been updated with the correct rules.
