Keldeo can easily capitalize on the current metagame that favors bulkier builds by acting as a stallbreaker that can prevent walls such as Toxapex from touching it with Taunt. This allows Keldeo to take on a good chunk of the ever-so-popular defensive cores such as Gliscor + Mantine + Celesteela in the Monotype metagame. Waterium Z + Hydro Pump gives Keldeo access to a one-time nuke that allows it to take on threats such as Zapdos after a Calm Mind boost. Secret Sword lets it take on special walls such as Chansey that can easily switch into Keldeo's Hydro Pump. Taunt allows Keldeo to beat walls such as Mantine by preventing them from recovering off damage and removing its boosts. Greninja is a fantastic late-game cleaner that appreciates Keldeo's ability to beat walls it struggles with such as Chansey and Celesteela, while Keldeo appreciates its ability to take on Pokemon such as Latios. Toxapex also makes for a fantastic teammate for Keldeo by providing Toxic Spikes support, poisoning a good chunk of Keldeo's checks on the switch, while also being able to scout and switch into attacks such as Tapu Bulu's Horn Leech for Keldeo.

In this replay Keldeo helps chip Celesteela, giving its teammate Greninja an easier time cleaning late-game.
