Kitsunoh is live on the CAP server!

Magmortified and Cyberzero fought the inaugural battle, with the CAP 7 Topic Leader winning handily. Although, as you can see in the screenshot, Mag was the first one to lose his beloved Kitsunoh.

This thread is dedicated to playtesting feedback and other related comments. Feel free to post log excerpts, if you think they help -- but please enclose them in CODE tags, if you post more than a few lines.

This playtest will be different than the past. Here are the key changes:

1) We reset the ratings for all players for a two week playtesting ladder. We have frozen the regular CAP ladder, and set the old ratings aside for now.

2) All past CAP pokemon are banned from the ladder for the next two weeks. Kitsunoh will be playtested only with standard OU pokemon. So new players should have an easy time jumping right into the playtesting fun!

3) The CAP Playtesting Champion will get a custom title. At the end of the playtesting period, whoever has the highest rating will be given the title "CAP Playtesting Champion" under their name, which they will keep until the next Playtesting Champion is crowned after the next CAP.
See the recent Policy Review thread, if you want any more details on the reasoning behind these changes. The main goal is to give everyone a level playing field -- hopefully encouraging more playtesting. Also, we'd like to see how Kitsunoh performs against regular OU teams -- without all the other CAP pokemon running around.

I hope you enjoy the new playtesting format. Have fun with Kitsunoh!

Also, the first battles on the server seem to have a lot of Swampert. Mainly as a Kitsunoh counter I guess. Also surprising is the number of Rotom about, including that they carry WoW. Kitsunoh lure? Only time'll tell, I guess.

Zapdos seems to be a great counter for Kitsunoh, there's not much it can do back. Swampert seems to be around a lot, Scizor has gone down. Seems like Kitsunoh is making an impact already!

Today was a great first day for the playtesting ladder! Ended the day being #1 by far. =P

I've had some preemptive dislike towards CAP7, though it's not as mind boggling as anticipating. It's just another fast, moderately strong pokemon. I haven't played a whole lot and as such much potential has yet to be uncovered, but I'm particularly waiting for Life Orb sets to pop up. It is pretty similar to Flygon and can be played much the same (though the extra speed is appreciated). Kitsunoh's stats and movepool makes scouting pretty obsolete and the inferior option. There's a heavy emphasis on physical bulk with things like Machamp, Swampert, and Metagross. Makes sense since most frail sweepers like Infernape and Lucario risk being outrun and struck down (damn this thing's movepool; knew it would be better without EQ).

I'm pretty surprised by the fact that NP Azelf has been able to do a lot of damage to teams, since a lot of them carry Steels now. Energy Ball/Grass Knot is also a pain to Swampert.

There are a lot of people looking at Kitsunoh at the moment. Right now, there are over 100 people viewing the forum, and there are almost 50 players on the server.

For anyone reading the forum, that does not know how to get on the server to try out Kitsunoh for real -- just follow the instructions listed here.

Also, can we get some sets posted for Kitsunoh? A lot of people are asking for decent introductory movesets for Kit, and there's nothing to refer them to. I realize we are just in the early stages, but some posts by decent battlers might be helpful. (Please don't flood the topic with crappy noob sets. If it happens -- mods please delete them immediately. The last thing we need, is to lead newcomers astray by giving out horrible advice.)

I know it's early days, but I'm having Alot of success with this:

name: Yawnsunoh
move 1: ShadowStrike
move 2: Superpower
move 3: Yawn
move 4: Substitute
item: Leftovers
ability: Frisk
nature: Timid
evs: 4 HP / 252 Att / 252 Spe

I've been having alot of fun with this set. Unlike most of the Kitsunohs I've encountered so far, this one actually fulfills its conceptual purpose of the Ultimate Scout. Shadowstrike and Superpower form perfect coverage and and powerful combo.
Sub and Yawn force loads of switches and combo with Frisk to scout a good portion of the opponent's team.
Once you've subbed up, Kitsunoh is pretty hard to counter unless you already have a sleeping opponent. The plethora of resists and immunities that Steel/Ghost brings make it easy to switch in and sub up.

Comments?

Is this Kit supposed to stay in for quite a bit? If so, I would drop Superpower for Brick Break so you don't lose defensive ability.

that's fine as long as I can still 2ko Heatran, Magnezone and Blissey. I dunno if brick break would cut it? Superpower is only used if a fighting weak switches in though.

I bet you meant jolly, didnt you?

I've been using the following set:

Kitsunoh@Life Orb
Ability: Frisk/Limber
Move 1: Shadowstrike
Move 2: Earthquake/Superpower
Move 3: U-turn
Move 4: Rock Slide/Ice punch

Shadowstrike provides Kit with a lot of use against Rotom - A, Latias, Celebi etc. It almost OHKOs Celebi and with Limber T.wave Celebi would stand a chance. Earthquake to hit Jirachi and Metagross hard almost ensuring a OHKO on them. Superpower is prefered over Earthquake since it will OHKOs Tyranitar, hits Magnezone after Magnet rise and could still be used against other problems for Kit. U-turn for scouting purposes. I prefer rockslide over Ice punch since it will mostly help against Gyarados and still being able to help against other flying types and Salamence.

I've had a lot of success with this set. Beej helped me with this set. Also thanks a lot for the logs Mag, since wasn't there for the unveiling.

I've been avoiding using Kitsunoh. I haven't seen anything that proves to me it's worth the team slot, beyond being a pretty good standalone sweeper.

I've been using mainly a stall-ish team on the ladder and winning most every battle. Bulky pokemon are dominating the ladder a lot (I predict this fad to go down) and a good round of Toxic Spikes seems to run right through them. However, my team was created via gimmick so I'm sure it's not the most effective team possible for the ladder right now (like if I decided to use non-sinnoh pokemon I could probably do a lot better).

Mag has been using a DS-->Gliscor--> Metagross and from what I've seen and been told it does excellently right now. Obviously in two weeks when Arghonaut is back it won't work nearly as well, but for now it seems to walk all over a lot of teams.

EDIT- Also it may be smart to say that I'm fairly certain over time TrickScarf Kitsunoh will become popular as a lead for its ability to always screw over a Jirachi or Azelf or whatever no matter what item they are running.

Kitsunoh (F) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Limber
EVs: 4 HP/252 Atk/252 Spd
Adamant nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Earthquake
- Ice Punch
- ShadowStrike
- Meteor Mash / Thunder Punch / U-turn
---

Screw scouting. This baby is a Scarf Revenger, and functions pretty decent for late game clean up. Earthquake hits Heatran, Infernape, Lucario, Metagross and friends. Ice Punch is primarily for revenging DDMence. ShadowStrike provides a solid STAB and hurts Rotom, Latias, Starmie, Celebi, and the like. I haven't actually used Meteor Mash since it doesn't really help revenge anything and ShadowStrike is the better late game cleanup. As such, I may end up replacing that with ThunderPunch to deal with Gyarados and waters in general. U-turn used to be on this set and could still go in Meteor Mash's spot to scout it's counters (face it, it's not scouting anything else). Superpower is available for Snorlax (I've seen a few around).

Maxing the Attack stat is obvious; it can't afford to sacrifice points there. The speed EVs allow you to beat standard Scarf Dugtrio by one point, so none of the points are wasted trying to outspeed nothing.

...though if I was using the Scarf set as a lead I would go with Frisk. Other than that it looks fine, since the only things at that speed really worth going after are +1 base 100s (which is 176 EVs).

Going Jolly for better revenge caapability may be worth it but probably not.

If my set was meant to be a lead, it'd definately have Trick and Frisk. But that's not what it's meant to do. Maybe I'll make a lead set later (though one will probably pop up before that). You seemed to have the right idea in mind with your posts EM, why don't you make the set? XD You should probably keep Fidget in mind though.

About the speed EVs, the only purpose behind Jolly would be to beat Jolly threats, but much like Flygon it just can't afford to sacrifice the extra power, so Kit will have to manage without. After looking up some scarfed threats, 252 speed is the best option; it beats standard Scarf Dugtrio by one blasted point x_x

LO Kitsunoh packs Superpower/EQ, so Magnezone isn't really all that in terms of killing Kitsunoh. I'd say Magnezone is only good for trapping choiced Kitsunohs, just like how Magnezone traps other choiced steels like Scizor. However, it's harder to trap Kitsunoh than to trap Scizor because of it's speed.

I think the prevalence of Superpower/EQ using Kitsunohs have kinda made Magnezone kinda pointless in countering most Kitsunohs, and I really think that bulky waters are the easiest things to scare off a Kitsunoh.

Apart from that, the only "scouting" i'm seeing is U-turn and Frisking. Frisk is less popular than Limber at the moment, and all the other secondary types of scouting such as Protect/Roar/etc. aren't used. It just shows us that the "ultimate" scout doesn't need every scouting move it possibly needs as long as it has the stats.

I'm running a Scarf set with the same EVs and nature. However, I run ShadowStrike/Superpower/EQ/U-Turn. Its been pretty helpful on my CAP team, and is pretty shocking to most opponents. It can also clean up late game with U-Turn (its done so three times out of the 15 battles ive used it.) I find myself never using Superpower, however. Mainly, this guy is used for mid-game scouting with U-Turn.

One thing I've noticed about the CAP testing ladder is that most teams don't use the Pokémon in question extensively. They're just standard teams with a small twist of an extra Ground or Fire attack (Heatran) to counter Kitsunoh.

Well my initial tests were without Kitsunoh, I kept seeing people trying save Kitsunoh as one of their last pokemon and sweep, which failed more time than it succead. The best success I have seen are people who bring it out earlier because the opponent cant predict what it will do.

I find the best two ways to fight it is either bulk, which many people have pointed out and sacrficing a weak, already known poke to let on eof the trappers come in and kill it.

However I think its best used as an Anti-lead. Frisk/Trick is a nightmare combination and I have found combining it with yawn and memento can seriously gunk up the opponents team, and of course scout it, without much risk to your own.

This is the set I've been using to some success:

Utility Kitsunoh

Kitsunoh @ Shed Shell
Jolly Nature
Frisk
252 HP/4 Def/252 Spe

-U-Turn
-Yawn
-Will-o-wisp
-Taunt

I honestly don't find much use for Shadowstrike on this set so I instead devoted EV's into HP. Yawn and Taunt forces switches; Will-o-wisp cripples sweepers. U-Turn allows a little bit of damage and Shed Shell defends against the rampant Dugtrio and Magnezone.

This is a Choice Band set I made.

Item: Choice Band
Nature: Adamant
EVs: 4HP/252Atk/252Spd
-ShadowStrike
-Superpower
-Meteor Mash
-Earthquake

Any comments?

Made or used successfully? Don't post sets unless it's the latter, and if it is the latter, you should be able to elaborate more than just "any comments?".
