OU KnockBoots Wake (Boots Attacker Walking Wake)

(Walking Wake) @ Heavy-Duty Boots

Tera Type: Water / Fairy / Steel
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature

- Surf / Scald
- Knock Off
- Flip Turn

[SET COMMENTS]
Walking Wake functions as a decently fast pivot that is able to unleash powerful STAB attacks, force progress on certain Pokemon via Knock Off, and pivot out of bad matchups with Flip Turn. Surf's higher damage output is more valuable against targets like Gliscor, Clefable, and Garganacl, which can absorb status effects and Knock Off but cannot reliably switch into Surf unless Terastallized. However, Scald still deals solid damage and can be used to potentially inflict burn, which can cripple certain foes looking to switch into a Water-type move such as Rillaboom, Choice Band Dragapult, and Assault Vest Hisuian Samurott. Knock Off allows Walking Wake to cripple certain defensive pivots with the switches it forces such as Galarian Slowking, Primarina, Assault Vest Alomomola, and Tornadus-T. Knock Off also helps with removing Heavy-Duty Boots from Pokemon such as Toxapex and Blissey, which can be amazing for entry hazard-stacking structures. Flip Turn allows Walking Wake to keep up momentum versus Pokemon it has already left itemless, as well as chipping switch-ins such as Clefable. Tera Water enhances Walking Wake's damage output further, allowing it to achieve feats such as always OHKOing specially defensive Gliscor after Stealth Rock, always 2HKOing maximum HP Clefable, and more easily 2HKOing threats like Zamazenta and maximum HP Pecharunt. It can also be used to shed Walking Wake's Fairy and Dragon weaknesses in a pinch. Tera Fairy provides a crucial immunity to Dragon, which can help versus the plethora of relevant Dragon-types that threaten Walking Wake such as Dragapult, Raging Bolt, and Latios. Tera Steel can also be used as it provides a similar safety net against opposing Dragon-Types and a crucial resistance to Fairy-type moves such as Enamorus's and Iron Valiant's Moonblast as well as Kyurem's Freeze-Dry.

Walking Wake finds itself at home on entry hazard-stacking teams, as its ability to forcefully remove Heavy-Duty Boots from some Pokemon is very much appreciated. Hence, Stealth Rock and Spikes-setting Pokemon pair very well with it, such as Great Tusk, Tinkaton, Ting-Lu, and Gliscor. Walking Wake's ability to force out and threaten common Knock Off absorbers, such as Gliscor and Corviknight, greatly benefits these Pokemon in return. Walking Wake is commonly prone to most Fairy-type Pokemon such as Hatterene, Enamorus, and Primarina, so checks to these threats such as Gholdengo, Pecharunt, Galarian Slowking, and Corviknight are required; the latter three can help pivot in Walking Wake safely. Gholdengo is also an amazing partner, as it can block Defog and Rapid Spin for Walking Wake's teammates, allowing hazard pressure to remain. Other Rapid Spin blockers such as Sinistcha and Pecharunt are also relevant for this role. Dragapult is also a threat to Walking Wake, so Pokemon such as the aforementioned Ting-Lu as well as other checks such as Kingambit and Garganacl may be utilized. Pokemon commonly found on such archetypes that can check Ogerpon-W such as Zamazenta and pivot Ogerpon are amazing teammates to have. Ogerpon, in particular, forms a great offensive core with Walking Wake, threatening its checks such as Tera Water Garganacl, Alomomola, and Blissey while still keeping momentum with U-turn. Powerful wallbreakers such as Swords Dance Iron Valiant, Choice Band Zamazenta, and Dragapult also appreciate Walking Wake's ability to force progress against their checks such as Galarian Slowking.

- Scald / Surf Hydro Pump The original analysis this was based on had Surf as a standalone move in this slot; you didn't include it at all in favor of Scald/Pump, but I honestly don't think I mind it too much after thinking about it a little. Scald sees more usage than Surf by a longshot and has some legit justification on this set, but Surf has some important benchmarks (see mention below) so I think I'd prefer we scrap Pump and keep Surf as a backslash to Scald. Surf scores the same relevant OHKOes Pump does without PP/accuracy issues so it has some legit (albeit rare) use cases over Scald.

Walking Wake functions as a decently fast pivot who's able to unleash powerful STAB attacks, force progress on certain Pokémon via Knock Off and Scald burns and pivot out of bad matchups with Flip Turn. Scald is preferably Walking Wake's option for water STAB, as it still deals solid damage to targets, and can be used to spread burn, which can cripple certain foes looking to switch into a water move such as Rillaboom, Hisuian Samurott, or Iron Valiant. However, Hydro Pump Surf can be used over Scald to OHKO Defensive Landorus-T after Stealth Rock, and more reliably 2HKO offensive Gholdengo and Kingambit, albeit at the cost of Scald's Burn chance. if more damage is preferred. Hydro Pump can be used to score OHKOes on certain pokemon, such as Defensive Landorus-T. This is mostly not worth using over Scald's chance to burn, however. Knock Off is one of the main boons of this set, allowing Walking Wake to forcefully remove items from certain defensive pivots with the switches it forces, such as Galarian Slowking, Tornadus-Therian, Primarina, and Assault Vest Alomomola. All good mentions, I'd argue you should put Mola/Primarina ahead of Torn since those are much harder Wake checks. This can soften them for other wallbreakers or sweepers, such as Iron Valiant. Knock Off also helps with removing Heavy Duty Boots from opposing pokemon, which can be amazing for hazard stacking structures. Finally, Flip Turn should always be used in the final slot, allowing Walking Wake to keep up momentum versus Pokémon it's already made itemless. Tera Fairy is the most beneficial Tera Type, as it provides a crucial immunity to Dragon, which can help versus the plethora of relevant Dragon types, such as Dragapult, Raging Bolt, Latios, Kyurem, and opposing Walking Wake. Tera Steel can also be used instead, as it provides a similar safety net against opposing dragons, but also a crucial resistence to Fairy type moves such as Enamorus or Iron Valiant's Moonblast, or Kyurem's Freeze Dry. Tera Water was also part of the original onsite set; the extra power's appreciated against Valiant (always OHKOed by Scald after Rocks and by Surf with no chip), Zamazenta (which can now be more easily 2HKOed) and max HP Pecharunt (which is now always 2HKOed even with Scald). Losing your Fairy weakness still lets Wake eat a Specs Enam's Moonblast from full in a pinch without having to play a guessing game around Earth Power and has a ~62% chance to OHKO it after Rocks, but that's probably not worth mentioning.

Hi, fixed!
Also yea, I never got Surf on the OG set as scald seems to be better in like 90% of cases. My logic with pump was mostly just more damage as I don't really see ten damage doing too much. That being said I did edit it as most people will probably use scald anyways

(There's gonna be some QC stuff here too after this; just adding a little bit of commentary on this front first)

Scald's generally more used on ladder, but IIRC Surf's actually preferred in tournament play since it's stronger into the likes of Gliscor, Clef, and Garg (and the former two absorb Knock well). Surf actually secures a couple important KOs that Scald can't (I didn't even get into Garg as much here, but Clef/Gliscor are the big ones). It's worth keeping both slashed, but a couple of us on QC discussed this internally and didn't really come to a consensus regarding which one should be slashed first; I'm an advocate for Scald first, as was someone else, but a couple folks were in favor of slashing Surf first due to the aforementioned Gliscor/Clef/Garg hits. Pump was on the redundant side of things. QC2 might want you to reorder the Water STAB of choice, but I'm electing to keep it as is for now.

With that in mind...

Walking Wake functions as a decently fast pivot who's able to unleash powerful STAB attacks, force progress on certain Pokémon via Knock Off and Scald burns alongside powerful Water-type STAB, Scald's not the only option here anymore, so I'd like to slightly retool parts of this analysis to stress the importance of Knock+Water STAB synergy. Scald has its time to shine once you explain the slashed options in that moveslot. and pivot out of bad matchups with Flip Turn. Scald is preferably Walking Wake's option for water STAB, as it still deals solid damage to targets, and can be used to spread burn, which can cripple certain foes looking to switch into a wWater-type move, such as Rillaboom, Hisuian Samurott, or Iron Valiant. However, Surf's higher damage output is more valuable against targets like Gliscor, Clefable, and Garganacl, which can absorb status effects and Knock Off but cannot reliably switch into Surf. can be used over Scald if more damage is preferred. to Surf also allows Walking Wake to OHKO Defensive Landorus-T after Stealth Rock, and more reliably 2HKO offensive Gholdengo and Kingambit, albeit at the cost of Scald's Burn chance. QC2 might bring up the Lando calc again, but I'll leave that up to them. Surf's main draw is handling Knock switch-ins, which is what makes this set as good as it is. This is mostly not worth using over Scald, however, as much of its utility is sacrificed. Surf sees more tournament usage, so there's a pretty legitimate argument for it over Scald. Knock Off is one of the main boons of this set, allowing Walking Wake to forcefully remove items from certain defensive pivots with the switches it forces, such as Galarian Slowking, Primarina, Assault Vest Alomomola, and Tornadus-Therian. This can soften them for other wallbreakers or sweepers, such as Iron Valiant. Tera Steel can also be used instead, as it provides a similar safety net against opposing dragons, but also a crucial resistence to Fairy type moves such as Enamorus or Iron Valiant's Moonblast, or Kyurem's Freeze Dry. Tera Water is the third option, and is preferred for those who wish to enhances Walking Wake's damage output further, allowing it to achieve feats such as always OHKOing Iron Valiant with Scald after Stealth Rock, or more easily 2HKOing threats like always OHKOing specially defensive Gliscor after Stealth Rock and always 2HKOing max HP Clefable. Zamazenta or Max HP Pecharunt still good mentions, but I'd rather emphasize the Knock absorbers as important targets here in hindsight. It can also be used to shed Fairy and Dragon weaknesses in a pinch. Move the Tera Water part before Tera Fairy. Explanation below; you don't need to change the wording beyond the changes I'm suggesting here, but Tera Water's power boost is actually super important.

Reordered Tera slashes to be Water > Fairy > Steel. I think they're all relatively usable, but I think Water's importance into those Knock-absorbing targets and Garganacl warrants it being first slash and thus the first Tera type you explain out of these three. The formatting for this is an absolute nightmare as far as copyediting goes, so let me know if you have any questions about implementing this change specifically.

Walking Wake finds itself at home on hazard stacking teams, as its ability to forcefully remove Heavy-Duty-Boots from some Pokémon is very much appreciated. Hence, Stealth Rock and Spike setting Pokémon pair very well with it, such as Ting-Lu, Great Tusk, Iron Treads, Tinkaton, or Landorus-Therian. Powerful wallbreakers, such as Iron Valiant, Choice Band Zamazenta, or Dragapult greatly appreciate Walking Wake's ability to force progress against their checks. Gholdengo in particular is an amazing partner, as it can block defog or rapid spin for Walking Wake's teammates. Dragapult is also a threat to Walking Wake, so Pokemon such as the aforementioned Ting-Lu or other checks such as Kingambit or Garganacl may be used. Mention some offensive threats that appreciate having Gliscor/Clef pressured and/or muscled past at some point in this paragraph, probably in one of the earlier sentences. SD IVal, some Zama sets (i.e. ones lacking Ice Fang), etc. are solid mentions already, but I think the main point of this analysis should be stressing the importance of that Knock+dual STAB pressure into Knock absorbers.

Remember to capitalize move names properly and whatnot (see highlighted part above). Makes GP's job a little easier once we get to that phase.

Other than that, Iron Valiant does not want to switch into Walking Wake's Water moves, Hisuian Samurott can struggle to do so since its usually slower and would meet a Draco Meteor next turn, perhaps you could mention something like Choice Band Dragapult. Knock Off is one of the main boons of this set, allowing Walking Wake to forcefully remove items from certain cripple defensive pivots with the switches it forces, such as Assault Vest from Galarian Slowking, Just removing in case this doesn't match your definition of pivot Primarina, Assault Vest Alomomola, and Tornadus-Therian. This can soften them for other wallbreakers or sweepers, such as Iron Valiant. Flavor text. In particular, Knock Off also helps with removing Heavy Duty Boots from opposing pokemon such as Toxapex and Blissey, which can be amazing for hazard stacking structures, further taking advantage of Walking Wake's ability to threaten Knock Off absorbers such as Gliscor and Corviknight. Doesn't have to be exactly this, nor does it even have to be here, but it's important to highlight that Walking Wake is a good Knock Off user exactly cause it scares off common Knock Off absorbers. Finally, Flip Turn should always be is Just no need to be overly restrictive if the text does not demand it used in the final slot, allowing Walking Wake to keep up momentum versus Pokémon it's already made itemless and chipping switch-ins such as Clefable. Tera Fairy provides a crucial immunity to Dragon, which can help versus the plethora of relevant Dragon types which threaten Walking Wake, such as Dragapult, Raging Bolt, Latios, Kyurem, I would remove one of these, no need to give that many examples, particularly if they are iffy; Kyurem for example often does not run Dragon moves, while both it and Raging Bolt are slower than Walking Wake; I would remove at least one of them and opposing Walking Wake. Tera Steel can also be used instead, as it provides a similar safety net against opposing dragons, but also a crucial resistence to Fairy type moves such as Enamorus or Iron Valiant's Moonblast, or Kyurem's Freeze Dry.

Hence, Stealth Rock and Spike setting Pokémon pair very well with it, such as Ting-Lu, Great Tusk, Iron Treads, Tinkaton, or Landorus-Therian. Cut down on the examples; Landorus-T in particular it not often ran on these bulkier teams, while Gliscor is a big partner missing. Walking Wake's ability to force out and threaten a majority of common Knock Off absorbers, such as Clefable, Gliscor, or even Sticky Hold Hydrapple, Gliscor, Corviknight, and Clefable Sticky Hold Hydrapple is not relevant. I would be careful about adding Clefable since you don't really threaten it at full, but that's your call greatly benefits these Pokémon in return. Powerful wallbreakers, such as Swords Dance Iron Valiant, Choice Band Zamazenta, or Dragapult greatly appreciate Walking Wake's ability to force progress against these Pokemon, who can cause difficulties for them. Not really sure what you are trying to say here Walking Wake is commonly prone to most Fairy type Pokémon, such as Hatterene, Enamorus, or Primarina, so checks to these threats are required. Pokémon like Iron Crown, Galarian Slowking, Corviknight or Gholdengo are required to help against these Pokemon. such as Galarian Slowking, Pecharunt, Corviknight, and Gholdengo are appreciated. No need to have a second sentence. Keep in mind that Galarian Slowking, Pecharunt, and Corviknight may also act as pivots to bring in Walking Wake safely Gholdengo in particular is an amazing partner, as it can block Defog or Rapid Spin for Walking Wake's teammates, allowing Hazard pressure to remain. Dragapult is also a threat to Walking Wake, so Pokemon such as the aforementioned Ting-Lu or other checks such as Kingambit or Garganacl may be utilized. Instead of powerful wallbreakers you can mention Pokemon such as Zamazenta that can check Ogerpon-W and Blissey, and help Walking Wake provide Speed control for the team; Ogerpon similarly checks Ogerpon-W, Blissey, as well as Tera Water Garganacl, and Assault Vest Alomomola for example, while providing extra speed after Tera. In general, its just good to add partners that are common on these kinds of bootspam, and that check Ogerpon-W, which is an annoying mon for Walking Wake that is missing in mentions here.

Alr I made the changes. Also, I decided to make a quick Hazard Stack earlier using this set and laddered a bit, I came to the conclusion that Surf + Tera Water is probably the best set because of the reasons said before. It's just more damage which is pretty important here imo

Also, I kept Hamurott as AV would be a good switchin to wake (252 SpA Walking Wake Draco Meteor vs. 248 HP / 124 SpD Assault Vest Samurott-Hisui: 166-196 (43.3 - 51.1%) -- 5.9% chance to 2HKO) So I figured its worth mentioning

[SET COMMENTS]
Walking Wake functions as a decently fast pivot who's able to unleash powerful STAB attacks, force progress on certain Pokémon via Knock Off and powerful Water-type STAB and pivot out of bad matchups with Flip Turn. Surf's higher damage output is more valuable against targets like Gliscor, Clefable, and Garganacl, which can absorb status effects and Knock Off but cannot reliably switch into Surf unless Terastalized. I would remove this part, its just a bit too much, but you can decide. Would swap Garganacl for Corviknight personally However, Scald stilll deals solid damage to targets, and can be used to potentially inflict burn, which can cripple certain foes looking to switch into a Water move such as Rillaboom, Choice Band Dragapult, or Assault Vest Hisuian Samurott. Knock Off is one of the main boons of this set, allowing Walking Wake to cripple certain defensive pivots with the switches it forces, such as Galarian Slowking, Primarina, Assault Vest Alomomola, and Tornadus-Therian. Tornadus-T. Knock Off helps with removing Heavy Duty Boots from opposing pokemon such as Toxapex and Blissey, which can be amazing for hazard stacking structures, further taking advantage of Walking Wake's ability to threaten the vast majority of Knock Off absorbers such as Gliscor and Corviknight. This might not be as needed anymore now that you mentioned it at the start, but it doesn't hurt, up to you if you want to keep it or not. Flip Turn is used in the final slot, allowing Walking Wake to keep up momentum versus Pokémon it's already left itemless, and chipping switchins, such as Clefable. Tera Water enhances Walking Wake's damage output further, allowing it to achieve feats such as always OHKOing specially defensive Gliscor after Stealth Rock, always 2HKOing max HP Clefable, and more easily 2HKOing threats like Zamazenta or Max HP Pecharunt. It can also be used to shed Fairy and Dragon weaknesses in a pinch. Tera Fairy provides a crucial immunity to Dragon, which can help versus the plethora of relevant Dragon types which threaten Walking Wake, such as Dragapult, Raging Bolt, or Latios. Tera Steel can also be used instead, as it provides a similar safety net against opposing dragons, but also a crucial resistence to Fairy type moves such as Enamorus or Iron Valiant's Moonblast, or Kyurem's Freeze Dry.

Walking Wake finds itself at home on hazard stacking teams, as its ability to forcefully remove Heavy-Duty-Boots from some Pokémon is very much appreciated. Hence, Stealth Rock and Spike setting Pokémon pair very well with it, such as Gliscor, Ting-Lu, Great Tusk, Iron Treads, Just trading for Gliscor, more important and very common partner or Tinkaton. Walking Wake's ability to force out and threaten a majority of common Knock Off absorbers, such as Gliscor or Corviknight, greatly benefits these Pokémon in return. Powerful wallbreakers, such as Swords Dance Iron Valiant, Choice Band Zamazenta, or Dragapult greatly appreciate Walking Wake's ability to force progress against their checks such as Galarian Slowking, and function as great teammates. This is fine if you want to keep it, I would just move it towards the end of the paragraph since some of the other stuff you mention is arguably more important Walking Wake is commonly prone to most Fairy type Pokémon, such as Hatterene, Enamorus, or Primarina, so checks to these threats are required, such as Gholdengo, Pecharunt, Galarian Slowking and Corviknight are appreciated. The latter three can help pivot in Walking Wake safety. Gholdengo is also an amazing partner, as it can block Defog or Rapid Spin for Walking Wake's teammates, allowing Hazard pressure to remain. Dragapult is also a threat to Walking Wake, so Pokemon such as the aforementioned Ting-Lu or other checks such as Kingambit or Garganacl may be utilized. Pokémon commonly found on such arcetypes who can check Ogerpon-Wellspring, Ogerpon-W such as Zamazenta or Pivot Ogerpon, are amazing teammates to have. Ogerpon in particular forms a great offensive core with it, threatening it's checks such as Tera Water Garganacl, Alomomola, or Blissey, and still keeping momentum with it in U-Turn. Finally, Rapid Spin blockers, such as Sinischa, Pecharunt, or the aforementioned Gholdengo are necessary to block forms of Hazard removal for its teammates. You already mentioned Gholdengo before, you could try to move this sentence right after the Gholdengo part and have something like "Other spinblockers such as ... can also..."

Okay, added!
I kept the Garg part as I mention corv later. I think it's also something worth mentioning because it is a somewhat common interaction

Walking Wake functions as a decently fast pivot that is able to unleash powerful STAB attacks, force progress on certain Pokemon via Knock Off, (AC) and powerful Water-type STAB moves (this is effectively repeating info with the "powerful STAB attacks" earlier in the sentence) and pivot out of bad matchups with Flip Turn. Surf's higher damage output is more valuable against targets like Gliscor, Clefable, and Garganacl, which can absorb status effects and Knock Off but cannot reliably switch into Surf unless Terastallized. Walking Wake finds itself at home on entry hazard-stacking (added hyphen) teams, as its ability to forcefully remove Heavy-Duty Boots from some Pokemon is very much appreciated. Hence, Stealth Rock and Spike Spikes-setting (added hyphen) Pokemon pair very well with it, such as Great Tusk, Tinkaton, Ting-Lu, Great Tusk, and Gliscor, (RC) and Tinkaton. (reordering to align the examples with the subject (Great Tusk and Tinkaton can't set Spikes so they'd need to be before those that can)) Walking Wake's ability to force out and threaten common Knock Off absorbers, such as Gliscor and Corviknight, greatly benefits these Pokemon in return. Walking Wake is commonly prone to most Fairy-type Pokemon, (RC) such as Hatterene, Enamorus, and Primarina, so checks to these threats such as Gholdengo, Pecharunt, Galarian Slowking, and Corviknight are required; the latter three can help pivot in Walking Wake safety safely. Gholdengo is also an amazing partner, as it can block Defog and Rapid Spin for Walking Wake's teammates, allowing hazard pressure to remain. Other Rapid Spin blockers; (removed semicolon) such as Sinistcha and Pecharunt are also relevant for this role. Dragapult is also a threat to Walking Wake, so Pokemon such as the aforementioned Ting-Lu as well as other checks such as Kingambit and Garganacl may be utilized. Pokemon commonly found on such archetypes that can check Ogerpon-W, (RC) such as Zamazenta and pivot Ogerpon, (RC) are amazing teammates to have. "Tera Steel can also be used instead (redundancy),"

I'll fix it anyway but how exactly is this one redundant? I feel like adding the instead makes it flow better than if it wasn't there.

Alright, done
I did the method she showed as well, I just forgot something and for some reason thought you wanted me to add the semicolons for some reason
