With key resistances to Grass, Fire, and Water, Kommo-o shines in a metagame currently dominated by Rillaboom, Kartana, Heatran, and Urshifu-R. It's able to find many safe turns to set up against these threats with Clangorous Soul, which also gives it an additional +1 Special Attack boost thanks to Throat Spray, and go to town with its spread STAB move Clanging Scales. Aura Sphere covers many Dragon-resistant foes such as Kartana and Heatran. While base 100 Special Attack might seem underwhelming at first, Kommo-o is able to 2HKO the likes of Assault Vest Kyurem-B with Clanging Scales at +2. Thanks to Overcoat, Kommo-o also turns a would-be check in Amoonguss into setup fodder. Rillaboom and Kartana are excellent partners to not only deal with Tapu Fini and its Misty Terrain, Kommo-o's biggest pain, but also to provide both Fake Out and Tailwind support. Rillaboom also removes Psychic Terrain, which makes it harder for Tapu Lele and Necrozma to take it down, while both it and Kartana match up well against the other main Fairy-type of the tier in Diancie. Blastoise is also an excellent partner, as it provides coveted Follow Me support so Kommo-o can get going more easily.
