Lanturn @ Assault Vest
Ability: Volt Absorb
EVs: 252 SpA / 72 SpD / 184 Spe
Modest Nature
- Scald
- Volt Switch
- Ice Beam
- Discharge / Hydro Pump

Lanturn is one of the best Assault Vest users and pivots in PU that can apply a lot of pressure to teams by consistently forcing in Pokemon like Hitmonchan and grabbing momentum. This combined with its great defensive typing and ability to blanket special attackers such as Oricorio-G, Swanna, and Mesprit lets it solidify a place on several offensive teams. Lanturn's access to a slow Volt Switch means it can always pivot out against Pokemon that can check it like Type: Null to grab momentum or provide a teammate like Stoutland with a free switch in. The departure of Pyroar, Ferroseed, and Gastrodon further augments Lanturn's effectiveness, as it no longer has to worry about Grassium Z variants of Pyroar and has more leeway. Furthermore, Ground-types like Mudsdale as well as Pokemon that resist Lanturn's STAB attacks like Alolan Exeggutor struggle to switch in safely due to its fantastic coverage. Lanturn forms an excellent VoltTurn core with Scyther, as the two can pressure the opposing team and weaken each other's checks. Other offensive partners like Froslass benefit Lanturn, as entry hazards help wear down opposing teams faster.

Lanturn is one of the best Assault vest users (add pivot here) in PU that can apply a ton of pressure to teams by consistently forcing in Pokemon like Hitmonchan and grabbing momentum. This combined with its great defensive typing and ability to blanket special attackers such as Oricorio-G, Swanna, and Mesprit lets it solidify a place on several offensive teams as one of the best specially offensive pivots available in the metagame. Its access to a slow Volt Switch means it can always pivot out of Pokemon that can check it like Type: Null; to grab momentum or give a free switch -in to a teammate like Stoutland. The departure of Pyroar, Ferroseed, and Gastrodon futher augment Lanturn's effectiveness as it no longer has to worry about Grassium Z variants of Pyroar and picking coverage moves to beat Gastrodon or Ferroseed. Furthermore, Lightning Rod users like Togedemaru (tbh, toge pretty much favours iron barbs in the current meta, for itself) (i wouldn't say it really has improved. yeah not running a hidden power means it has a bit more leeway but it's such a small amount), Ground-types such as Mudsdale, and Pokemon that resist its STAB attacks like Alolan Exeggutor, struggle to switch in safely due to its fantastic coverage. Lanturn forms an excellent VoltTurn core with Scyther, which pressures the opposing team and weakens checks to both. Other offensive partners like Froslass benefit Lanturn as entry hazards help wear down opposing teams faster. Even though Lanturn has flaws concerning its longevity, lack of reliable recovery, and physical bulk, this does not stop it from being a threat in the PU metagame!
QC 1/1. Had to trim down a bit of fluff because the character count was way too high. Overall decent content though.
