Water
Lanturn has a distinctive role for Water due to it's lavish typing & spectacular ability. Mostly used on stall, Lanturn does have a niche on balance. It's ability to wall the majority of Electric is incredible, however better options like Swampert paired with Flip Turn bring more to the table. Lanturn's bulk plus typing allows it to pivot on major threats such as Raichu-Alola, Thundurus-Therian & Rotom-Wash. Although Lanturn doesn't have the largest movepool, the moves it does have access to allow it to serve as an excellent cleric. Scald and Volt Switch are staple moves, allowing Lanturn to pressure with burns and provide the team with momentum. However, with all this said, Lanturn lacks reliable recovery, so it banks on passive in the form of Leftovers.

Scald and Volt Switch are staple moves. Scald allows Lanturn to apply pressure in the form of burns, and versus Ground Pokemon. Volt Switch is there to provide the team with some relatively slow momentum. Toxic is there to pressure Pokemon that would freely pivot in on Lanturn otherwise, some notable Pokemon are Rotom-Wash & Gastrodon. Last but not least, Heal Bell can be used over Protect to make Lanturn a cleric for its teammates, whilst also giving it a better matchup vs Pokemon carrying Toxic; however doing so gives Lanturn less passive recovery and the inability to scout choiced Pokemon.
Some Pokemon that pair up well with Lanturn are Toxapex, Mantine & Slowking. These three Pokemon, along with Quagsire, Swampert & Pelipper benefit heavily from Lanturn's ability to remove status. They also benefit from Lanturn's slow momentum in the form of setting hazards (Stealth Rock), Drizzle, Future Sight pressure and/or removing hazards in the form of Mantine.
