[OVERVIEW]
While Mega Latios competes with other offensive Psychic-types like Mega Alakazam and Tapu Lele, it sets itself apart from them with its Dragon typing, access to reliable recovery, and Levitate ability allow it to provide a consistent check to Pokemon like Arghonaut, Volkraken, Heatran, and Landorus-T. Its additional resistances and access to Recover also make it a lot easier for Mega Latios to switch into play, and thanks to this, it's very durable, unlike Tapu Lele. It further distinguishes itself from other Psychic-types like Tapu Lele and Mega Alakazam through its access to Earthquake, which allows it to consistently deal with Steel-types like Heatran and Magearna. However, it tends to struggle against other Steel-types like Celesteela and Ferrothorn, which Mega Alakazam and Tapu Lele can overwhelm over time with Focus Blast. Additionally, it's prone to getting Pursuit trapped by Weavile and Colossoil, as well as by Mega Tyranitar to a certain extent. Furthermore, Mega Latios struggles to deal with Fairy-types like Jumbao and Tapu Lele.

Moves
========
Earthquake allows Mega Latios to deal with Heatran while also letting it 2HKO Magearna and Mega Mawile as they switch in, as well as Mega Tyranitar after slight chip damage. Additionally, it OHKOes Mega Crucibelle, which Psychic is incapable of. Draco Meteor is run to prevent Mega Latios from letting Greninja, Weavile, Mega Alakazam, and Aurumoth switch in for free. Alternatively, Ice Beam can be run to effectively check Pokemon like Gliscor and Landorus-T. Additionally, it has a chance to 2HKO Jumbao. Recover notably allows Mega Latios to consistently check Heatran and Volkraken.
Set Details
========
A Hasty nature is preferred to a Naive nature to take on Volkraken and Heatran more comfortably.
Usage Tips
========
You should actively use Mega Latios's respectable bulk, resistances, and ability Levitate to check and switch into Pokemon like Heatran, Volkraken, Landorus-T, and Arghonaut. To consistently keep doing this, you should aim to keep Mega Latios as healthy as possible. Furthermore, Mega Latios should use the right coverage move if Pokemon like Magearna and Jumbao are expected to switch in, as it will be forced to switch out otherwise. You should also try to find a good balance between keeping Mega Latios healthy and picking the right move at the right time because it cannot be played offensively and defensively at the same time. Also, if Weavile is present on the opposing team, you should be extremely careful with using Mega Latios to pick up KOs, as it will always be able to Pursuit trap Mega Latios if it doesn't get hit by Draco Meteor as it switches in.
Team Options
========
Spikes setters like Ash-Greninja, Ferrothorn, and Arghonaut are particularly useful with Mega Latios, as the chip damage can consistently wear down Pokemon like Ferrothorn as Mega Latios forces them in. To add onto that, Ash-Greninja also forces damage on Ferrothorn, and Mega Latios can take advantage of checks to it like Arghonaut and Toxapex. Pokemon such as Ferrothorn and Celesteela that struggle with Fire-types like Heatran and Volkraken appreciate Mega Latios's ability to check them. Magnezone can consistently take out Steel-types like Celesteela and Ferrothorn that trouble Mega Latios. Furthermore, Magnezone and other Steel-types like Heatran and Magearna can also check Fairy-types like Jumbao and Clefable. Pokemon like Shift Gear Magearna and Quiver Dance Aurumoth are good teammates, as they appreciate Mega Latios's ability to weaken Pokemon like Magearna and Heatran.

Other Options
=============
Hidden Power Fire is an option that can be run to pressure Ferrothorn and Mega Scizor, but Mega Latios has a hard time fitting it.
Checks and Counters
===================
**Pursuit**: Weavile is particularly threatening, as it outspeeds Mega Latios and can OHKO it with Icicle Crash, which means that Mega Latios will, more often than not, want to switch out and Weavile can trap it with Pursuit. Colossoil can also Pursuit trap Mega Latios and can punish it if it chooses to stay in to attack thanks to Sucker Punch. Lastly, Mega Tyranitar and Tyranitar can both Pursuit trap Mega Latios if it doesn't use Earthquake as they switch in. They should also be wary of Mega Latios staying in and using Earthquake, as it will significantly wear them down.
**Steel-types**: Steel-types like Ferrothorn and Celesteela can wall most Mega Latios. Ferrothorn must be wary of the rare Hidden Power Fire, however. Other Steel-types like Jirachi and Magearna can switch into any move other than Earthquake.
**Fairy-types**: Fairy-types can threaten Mega Latios tremendously with their STAB attacks. However, Mega Mawile and Magearna don't like taking an Earthquake, while Jumbao must watch out for Ice Beam. Choice Scarf Tapu Lele is a pretty reliable offensive check, but it fails to switch in consistently.
**Faster Offensive Pokemon**: Pokemon like Ash-Greninja, Mega Alakazam, Syclant, and Choice Scarf Kitsunoh can threaten Mega Latios with their respective STAB or coverage moves, but they can't reliably switch in. Additionally, not only does Mega Alakazam offensively check Mega Latios, it can also switch into non-Draco Meteor variants with relative ease.
**Chansey**: Thanks to its elephantine special bulk, Chansey is capable of taking anything Mega Latios can throw at it.
