1v1 Latios [QC 3/3] [GP 2/2]

:rs/latios:
[OVERVIEW]
Latios has an interesting role in 1v1, being one of the two Pokemon with a Dragon / Psychic typing alongside Latias. Its decent special bulk allows it to take hits from bulky offensive Pokemon like Primarina and Celesteela as well as offensive nukes that it resists like Blast Burn from Mega Charizard Y, and its typing and ability also let it resist key attacks from Fire-, Ground-, and Electric-types such as Heatran, Mega Camerupt, Donphan, and Xurkitree. Latios's diverse movepool also allows it to KO a variety of foes, such as Kommo-o, Heatran, Tapu Fini, and Kee Berry Mew. On the other hand, Latios's typing leaves it weak to Fairy-, Dark- and Steel-types like Mega Gardevoir, Hoopa-U, and offensive Mega Metagross. Additionally, it relies way too much on a predictable Choice Specs set that bulky offense staples can easily be EVed to tank hits from, while it in return cannot EV itself to survive hits from Pokemon like Greninja and Mega Lopunny. Furthermore, Latios's moves don't have a high Base Power, so they need the boost from Choice Specs to OHKO or 2HKO common threats. Lastly, Latios is almost outclassed by Naganadel because of the latter's Poison-type STAB to beat common Fairy-types such as Mega Gardevoir, its high Speed stat to outspeed faster threats like Serperior, and stronger Fire-type coverage to help with Steel-types like Mega Mawile and Magearna. Latios's only redeeming qualities over Naganadel are its ability in Levitate, immunizing it to STAB attacks from common Ground-type staples like Donphan and Choice Scarf Landorus-T, and its Psychic-type coverage, which can help against Poison- and Fighting-types like Mega Venusaur and Mega Blaziken.

Moves
========

Draco Meteor is Latios's Dragon-type STAB attack used to nuke threats in one or two turns. Pokemon that are susceptible to this move include Mega Charizard Y, Zygarde-C, Kommo-o, and non-Choice Scarf Garchomp. Thunderbolt is used to hit Water- and Flying-types such as Primarina, Tapu Fini, and Celesteela super effectively. Notably, it is also able to hit Heatran for neutral damage, whilst the rest of Latios's moves are not effective versus it. Psychic is mainly used to beat Poison- and Fighting-types, namely Mega Venusaur and Mega Heracross. Hidden Power Fire, because of its low Base Power, is used against Pokemon that are 4x weak to Fire-type moves such as Ferrothorn and Mega Scizor, as well as non-Mirror Coat Magnezone. Shadow Ball is an interesting option over Hidden Power Fire that gives Latios a way to hit Psychic-types like bulky Tapu Lele, bulky non-Bullet Punch Mega Metagross, and Kee Berry Mew while forgoing the Ferrothorn and Mega Scizor matchups. Trick is another option, losing out on the matchups that Hidden Power Fire allows Latios to win yet gaining the win versus most stall-based Pokemon like Type: Null.

Set Details
========

32 HP EVs are invested to take a Moonblast followed by a Torrent-boosted Aqua Jet from Primarina. The remainder of the EVs are invested into Special Attack to maximize Latios's power with a neutral nature to make it the most threatening to the metagame it is capable of being, allowing it to 3HKO most Heatran. 252 Speed EVs and a Timid nature allow Latios to outspeed Durant and Kartana and OHKO them.

Usage Tips
========

Avoid faster Dragon-type Pokemon, which can all OHKO Latios easily because of its lackluster bulk, such as Choice Scarf Garchomp and Naganadel. Notably, specially defensive Mega Charizard X can stay in its base forme turn one, use Flame Charge or Dragon Dance to boost its Speed, and OHKO Latios turn two with Outrage after Mega Evolving. Against Heatran, use Thunderbolt. Despite Tapu Fini and Primarina's access to Moonblast, Latios can use Thunderbolt twice to KO them while taking a hit from them because of their lack of Special Attack investment. Latios's immunity to Ground-type moves is useful against Pokemon like Landorus-T, Donphan, and Krookodile. Don't use Draco Meteor against Sturdy Pokemon like Donphan and non-Mirror Coat Magnezone, as Psychic can already 2HKO them in most cases, and you don't want the chance to miss. Avoid sending Latios against physically offensive Pokemon that it can't outspeed and OHKO, as Latios has very poor HP and Defense. Examples include specially defensive Mega Charizard X, Mega Gyarados, bulky Dragonite, offensive Mega Metagross, and Zeraora. Be wary against fast attacking threats that can easily land a OHKO on Latios while it can't do anything, such as Porygon-Z, Greninja, and Zeraora. If you have Shadow Ball, lure in common metagame threats such as bulky Mega Metagross and Tapu Lele and 2HKO them.

Team Options
========

Physically defensive Pokemon such as Mega Slowbro, Registeel, and Ferrothorn make superb partners for Latios, as it is lacking in HP and Defense stats. In return, Latios provides a higher damage output to take out bulkier threats that these Pokemon can't deal with, such as Mega Charizard Y, non-Choice Scarf Genesect, and Heatran. Also, Fairy-types such as Mega Mawile, Mega Altaria, Mega Gardevoir, Magearna, and Mega Diancie can cover Dragon-types and Dark-types such as Dragonite, Haxorus, Mega Gyarados, and Hoopa-U with their STAB moves. Furthermore, Steel-types such as Celesteela, Mega Metagross, Ferrothorn, and Kartana can hit Fairy- and Ice-types that Latios is weak to while also resisting Bug-, Dragon-, and Ice-type attacks. Examples of these types include Mega Gardevoir, Alolan Ninetales, Crustle, and bulky Dragonite. Heatran, notably, can lure in Water- and Ground-type Pokemon such as Primarina, Tapu Fini, and Donphan, beat Steel- and Fairy-types like Mega Mawile, Mega Gardevoir, and Tapu Lele, which Latios lacks the ability to in most cases, and also take out specially defensive Mega Charizard X, which most other Steel-types can't do.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Energy Ball can be run over over Thunderbolt to OHKO Mega Swampert and Quagsire, but this loses out on the Heatran and Celesteela matchups. Ice Beam hits Mega Altaria for super effective damage, which Latios otherwise would not be able to do. Latios can use a Choice Scarf set with a Modest nature to outspeed and KO faster Pokemon such as Greninja, Naganadel, and Mega Lopunny. Z-Heal Block can be used to boost Latios's Special Attack by two stages to have higher damage results and block the opposing Pokemon's healing, and Psychium Z boosts Latios's otherwise lackluster Psychic into Shattered Psyche to beat Mega Slowbro and Type: Null.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Bulky Walls**: Latios cannot deal with physically or specially defensive Pokemon if it doesn't have a super effective move against them, as it is limited in its power, even with Choice Specs. Examples of walls that Latios can't beat are Registeel, Type: Null, Chansey, and Mega Sableye.

**Fairy-types**: Latios has a hard time against Fairy-types in general, as they are immune to its strongest STAB move and are neutral to or resist all of its other moves. Examples include Mega Gardevoir, Mega Altaria, Mega Mawile, Tapu Lele, and Magearna.

**Fast Attackers**: Though Latios has an above-average Speed stat, it is still outsped and KOed by most hyper offensive Pokemon in the 1v1 metagame, including Greninja, Choice Scarf Porygon-Z, Naganadel, and Pheromosa.

**Bulky Offense**: Most bulky offensive Pokemon can easily tank Latios's attacks and either set up and knock it out the next turn or OHKO it right away with a powerful or super effective move. Examples include specially defensive Mega Charizard X, Dragonite, Mega Gyarados, Mega Metagross, and Mega Mawile.

  • Latios has an interesting role in the 1v1 metagame being one of the two Dragon / Psychic types along with its brethren (Mega) Latias.
  • Latios' above average Special Attack and Speed allow it to take on a variety of Pokemon commonly used in the 1v1 metagame such as Mega Charizard Y, Primarina, Celesteela, and Landorus-T.
  • Latios' Draco Meteor boosts an impressive base power and is the main appeal of Latios able to OHKO common Dragon-types, such as Zygarde-C, Kommo-o, and Garchomp.
  • Latios has a variety of moves that can help it take down threats, one of the most appealing moves being Thunderbolt with the ability to hit for neutral damage almost all types except for Dragon-, Electric-, Grass-, and Ground-types such as Mega Altaria, Mega Metagross, Whimsicott, and Golem.
  • Latios' bulk is mediocre, and its not the fastest, nor the most powerful, making it weak to many common Pokemon such as Greninja, Porygon-Z, and Mega Metagross.
  • Latios relies way too much on a predictable Choice Specs set that can be easily bulked for from bulky offense staples, while it in return cannot EV itself to live hits from Pokemon like Greninja or Mega Lopunny.
  • Most of Latios' moves, outside of Draco Meteor but still included, don't have a high base power so they need the boost from Choice Specs to OHKO or 2HKO common threats.

  • Draco Meteor is Latios' signature Dragon- STAB used to nuke threats in 1 or 2 turns. Pokemon that are susceptible to this move include Mega Charizard Y, Zygarde-C, Kommo-o, and Garchomp.
  • Thunderbolt is used to super effectively beat Water- and Flying-types such as Tapu Fini, Primarina, Celesteela, and Togekiss. Notably, it is also able to hit Heatran for neutral damage whilst the rest of its moves are not effective versus it.
  • Psyshock, Psychic's counterpart, is used to mainly beat Chansey without having to use a separate moveslot with Trick. Other threats that this move beats include Mega Venusaur, non-Choice Scarf Tapu Bulu, and Mega Heracross.
+1 252 SpA Latios Psyshock vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Eviolite Chansey: 261-307 (37.1 - 43.6%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
Find a real example for Psyshock or replace it with Psychic

  • Hidden Power Fire, because of its low base power, is used against Pokemon that are 4x weak to Fire-moves such as Kartana, Durant, Ferrothorn, and Mega Scizor.

Set Details
========

  • 252 EVs are invested into Special Attack to maximize its power without investing a nature, to make it the most threatening to the metagame it is capable of being.
  • 252 EVs and a Timid nature are invested into Speed to outspeed Durant and Kartana leaving them susceptible to a OHKO from Hidden Power Fire.

Usage Tips
========

  • Send Latios against Dragon- and Psychic-weak Pokemon that aren't fast enough or aren't powerful enough to OHKO Latios, such as Zygarde-C, Kommo-o, Garchomp, Mega Venusaur, and Mega Heracross.
  • Use Draco Meteor unless your attack is resisted or inneffective, like against Genesect and Primarina, or if the opposing Pokemon has access to recovery, or if your opponent can use is hit super effectively by psychic type moves, like Mega Venusaur. reword to avoid clunkiness - double "or" is a run-on
  • It is wise to only use Thunderbolt in situations where Dragon- and Psychic-moves are resisted or immune to. Examples include Tapu Fini, Primarina, Empoleon, and Togekiss. No? Fini, Prima and Toge are all neutral to Psychic. Reword to be correct
  • It is wise to send Latios out against Electric-, Fighting-, Fire-, Psychic-, Grass-, and Water-types which don't have a super effective move to OHKO you as Latios resists all of these types and has many coverage moves to take them on. Examples of Pokemon you should send Latios out against are Zapdos, Mega Medicham, Victini, Mega Venusaur, and Primarina.
  • Because of Latios having Levitate as its ability, it is immunized againste to Ground-type moves from common metagame foes such as Donphan and Mega Camerupt. Reword in terms of how the Latios user should play
  • If you see a Pokemon that is 4x weak to Fire- which you also outspeed, send out Latios as Hidden Power Fire can OHKO or 2HKO all of the common ones in the 1v1 metagame. Examples of 4x weak to Fire-Pokemon include Ferrothorn, Kartana, Mega Scizor, Durant, and non-Choice Scarf Genesect.
  • Avoid sending Latios against physically offensive Pokemon that Latios can't outspeed and OHKO as Latios has very weak HP and Defense. Examples include but are not limited to Mega Charizard X, Mega Gyarados, Dragonite, Mega Metagross, and Outrage Zeraora.

Team Options
========

  • Physically defensive Pokemon make superb partners for Latios as it is lacking heavily in HP and Defense stats. Good partners include Mega Slowbro, Registeel, and Ferrothorn. In return, Latios provides a higher damage output to take out bulkier threats that these Pokemon deal with, such as Mega Charizard Y, non-Choice Scarf Genesect, and Heatran.
  • Fairy-types such as Mega Mawile, Mega Altaria, Mega Gardevoir, Magearna, Mega Diancie, and Mega Altaria with their Fairy STABs can cover Dragon-types and Dark-types such as Dragonite, Haxorus, Mega Gyarados, and Hoopa-U.
  • Steel-types such as Celesteela, Mega Mawile, Mega Metagross, Heatran, Ferrothorn, and Kartana are super effective against Fairy- and Ice-types that Latios is weak to, while also resisting Bug-, Dragon-, and Ice-types that Latios is weak to. Examples of these types include Mega Gardevoir, Alolan Ninetales, Crustle, and Dragonite.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

  • Latios can use a Choice Scarf set to outspeed and KO faster Pokemon and KO them such as Greninja, Naganadel, and Mega Lopunny.
  • Z-Heal Block can be used to boost Latios' Special Attack by 2 to have higher damage results starting on turn 2, examples of what this set beats include Mega Slowbro and Type: Null. Mention the actual utility of Heal Block (uncommon move, people don't know about it) and how Psychium Z can also be used to make Latios' Psychic STAB stronger

Checks and Counters
===================

**Special Walls**: Latios can not deal with high HP or specially defensive Pokemon if it doesn't have a super effective move against them as it is limited in its power, even with Choice Specs. Examples of walls that Latios can't beat are Registeel and Aegislash. at least one more example

**Fairy-types**: Latios has a hard time against Fairy-types in general as they are immune to Latios' strongest STAB move and are neutral or resist all of Latios' other moves. Examples include Mega Gardevoir, Mega Altaria, Mega Mawile, Tapu Lele, and Magearna.

**Fast Attackers** Though Latios has an above average Speed stat, it is still outsped and KOed by most "fast" Pokemon in the 1v1 metagame, examples including Greninja, Porygon-Z, Naganadel, and Pheromosa.

**Stall Pokemon** As Latios' most powerful move, Draco Meteor, reduces your Special Attack by 2 every time you use it, Latios does not fare well against Pokemon that have access to recovery, such as Mega Slowbro, Mega Sableye, and Type: Null.

**Bulky Offense** Most bulky offensive Pokemon can easily tank Latios' attacks and either set up and knock them out next turn or OHKO it right away with a powerful or super effective move. Examples include Specially Defensive Mega Charizard X, Dragonite, Mega Gyarados, Mega Metagross, and Mega Mawile.

  • Psychic is another one of Latios' STAB used to mainly beat Poison- and Fighting-types namely Mega Venusaur,
  • Hidden Power Fire, because of its low base power, is used against Pokemon that are 4x weak to Fire-moves such as Kartana, Durant, (they both die to Draco Meteor anyway) Ferrothorn, and Mega Scizor as well as Magnezone.

Set Details
========

  • 252 EVs are invested into Special Attack to maximize its power without investing a nature, to make it the most threatening to the metagame it is capable of being. give some examples of Pokemon that it can OHKO or 2HKO because of this, eg 2HKO Tapu Fini.
  • 252 EVs and a Timid nature are invested into Speed to outspeed Durant and Kartana leaving them susceptible to a OHKO from Hidden Power Fire. (unnecessarily wordy and again, hp fire isnt needed to ohko them.)

Usage Tips
========

  • Send Latios against Dragon- and Psychic-weak Pokemon that aren't fast enough or aren't powerful enough to OHKO Latios (you haven't given any examples of this, so I would remove this), such as Zygarde-C, Kommo-o, Garchomp, Mega Venusaur, and Mega Heracross.
  • Use Draco Meteor unless your attack is resisted or inneffective, such as against Genesect and Primarina, the opposing Pokemon having access to recovery, or if your opponent can use is hit super effectively by psychic type moves, like Mega Venusaur.
  • It is wise to only use Thunderbolt in situations where Dragon- and Psychic-moves are resisted or immune to. Examples include Heatran and Empoleon.
Mention that although Primarina and Tapu Fini have STAB super effective moves, Latios is able to tank a hit and 2HKO with Tbolt, because they do have stab super effective moves but latios is op.
  • Because of Latios having Levitate as its ability, it is immune to Ground-type moves. Using a Draco Meteor or Psychic is almost always wise because of the Electric- immunity and Hidden Power Fire not doing much damage. Common metagame foes such as Donphan and Mega Camerupt are examples of these Ground-types. Notably, Golem is an exception to this trait as it can #1: Use Continental Crush to OHKO Latios or #2: Use Sucker Punch twice to 2HKO Latios, with its Sturdy ability.
Hidden Power is also your best move against Magnezone.
  • Avoid sending Latios against physically offensive Pokemon that Latios can't outspeed and OHKO as Latios has very weak HP and Defense. Examples include but are not limited to defensive Mega Charizard X, Mega Gyarados, Dragonite, Mega Metagross, and Outrage Zeraora.

Team Options
========

  • Steel-types such as Celesteela, Mega Mawile, (already mentioned under fairies) Mega Metagross, Heatran, Ferrothorn, and Kartana are super effective against Fairy- and Ice-types that Latios is weak to, while also resisting Bug-, Dragon-, and Ice-types that Latios is weak to. Examples of these types include Mega Gardevoir, Alolan Ninetales, Crustle, and Dragonite.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

  • Other move options are Energy Ball over Thunderbolt, which lets Latios hit Mega Swampert and Gastrodon harder, but losing Heatran, Celesteela and Togekiss matchups.
  • Ice Beam hits Pokemon like Mega Altaria, Serperior, and Whimsicott for super effective damage, which it otherwise would not be able to do.
  • Shadow Ball is an interesting choice over Hidden Power Fire that gives Latios a way to hit Psychic-types like Tapu Lele, Mega Metagross, and Mew, while foregoing Ferrothorn and Mega Scizor matchups.
  • Latios can use a Choice Scarf set to outspeed and KO faster Pokemon such as Greninja, Naganadel, and Mega Lopunny.
  • Z-Heal Block can be used to boost Latios' Special Attack by 2 to have higher damage results starting on turn 2 and block the opposing Pokemon's healing, not needing the Z-Crystal for that though, or can use Psychium Z with Psychic for higher damage output with it's lackluster-otherwise Psychic attack. Examples of what this set beats include Mega Slowbro, Type: Null, and Serperior.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Special Walls**: Latios can not deal with specially defensive Pokemon if it doesn't have a super effective move against them as it is limited in its power, even with Choice Specs. Examples of walls that Latios can't beat are Registeel, Aegislash, and Chansey.

**Steel-types**: Mega Metagross, Mega Mawile, Mega Aggron.

**Fast Attackers** Though Latios has an above average Speed stat, it is still outsped and KOed by most "fast" Pokemon in the 1v1 metagame, including Greninja, Choice Scarf Porygon-Z, Naganadel, and Pheromosa.

**Stall Pokemon** As Latios' most powerful move, Draco Meteor, reduces your Special Attack by 2 every time you use it, Latios does not fare well against Pokemon that have access to recovery, such as Mega Slowbro, (this is actually more in your favour) Mega Sableye, and Type: Null.

**Bulky Offense** Most bulky offensive Pokemon can easily tank Latios' attacks and either set up and knock them out next turn or OHKO it right away with a powerful or super effective move. Examples include Specially Defensive Mega Charizard X, Dragonite, Mega Gyarados, Mega Metagross, and Mega Mawile.

and useful ability in Levitate.
while i get that you want to undercut latios in the overview. its redeeming qualities are more alongside the lines of that it has a unique typing and its a legendary that has legendary-like stats. Levitate..can be useful ig but from what i can see it literally just beats Groundium Z donphan.

make it the most threatening to the metagame it is capable of being, notably allowing Latios to 3HKO Heatran.
this is about the most non-threatening underwhelming thing latios can do. 3HKOing something is just. very sad. 2HKOing Tapu Fini, or Celesteela, or even just OHKOing SpDef Kommo-o is much more notable

notably Primarina has a super-effective STAB move to take Latios out in Moonblast but Latios has a high Special Defense stat which lets it tank that hit.
otherwise good job!

[OVERVIEW]

  • Latios has an interesting role in the 1v1 metagame being one of the two Dragon / Psychic types along with its brethren (Mega) Latias.
  • Latios has good decent Special bulk which allows it to take hits from bulky offensive Pokemon like Primarina and Celesteela, and or offensive nukes that you resist, like Mega Charizard Y. Changing this bc latios' special bulk isn't rlly anything to write home about, it can tank an uninvested super effective attack, an unresisted z from a base 100 pokemon, and a resisted move. But the heavy hitters that can make a mon have 'good' special bulk (scarf pz and greninja) stomp on latios. Its typing and ability also lets it resist key threats from Fire-, Ground, and Electric-types such as Heatran, Infernape, not relevant, scarf infernape doesn't exist so you'll never need to resist it in the first place. Mega Camerupt, Donphan, and Xurkitree.
  • Latios' above average Special Attack and Speed allow it to take on a variety of Pokemon commonly used in the 1v1 metagame like Landorus-T.
  • Latios' Draco Meteor boasts an impressive base power and is the main appeal of Latios able to OHKO common Dragon-types, such as Zygarde-C, Kommo-o, and non-Choice Scarf Garchomp.
  • Latios has a variety of moves that can help it take down threats, such as Thunderbolt and Hidden Power Fire can take down unsuspecting Tapu Fini, Genesect, and Ferrothorn. combine these two points, don't want to repeat the moves section
  • On the other hand, Latios' typing leaves it weak to Fairy-, Dark- and Steel-types like Mega Gardevoir, Greninja and Mega Metagross.
  • Latios relies way too much on a predictable Choice Specs set that can be easily bulked for from bulky offense staples, while it in return cannot EV itself to live hits from Pokemon like Greninja or Mega Lopunny. Furthermore, most of Latios' moves, outside of Draco Meteor but still included, lol choose one, you can't say 'draco is and is not weak'. I would include draco, it struggles to get KOs on pokemon w/o specs. don't have a high base power so they need the boost from Choice Specs to OHKO or 2HKO common threats.
  • Other Dragon-types give Latios a lot of competition as some of the special attacking ones just outclass it in power and bulk, the only redeeming quality being Latios' variety of coverage moves. Mention Naganadel specifically - its basically just faster latios that can beat more metagame-relevant threats, but mention latios' niche of a bit more spdef for mons like Celesteela, as well as a ground immunity for donphan.

  • 252 EVs are invested into Special Attack to maximize its power without investing a nature, to make it the most threatening to the metagame it is capable of being, allowing Latios to OHKO bulky Mega Pinsir. change this for the new evs. also, change to 3hko heatran
  • 252 Speed EVs and a Timid nature are invested into Speed to outspeed Durant and Kartana and OHKO them.

Usage Tips
========

  • Send Latios against Dragon- and Psychic-weak Pokemon that aren't fast enough, such as Zygarde-C, Kommo-o, Garchomp, Mega Venusaur, and Mega Heracross. obvious, change the point to avoid faster dragon mons like naganadel and scarfchomp
  • Use Draco Meteor unless your attack is resisted or inneffective, such as against Genesect and Primarina, the opposing Pokemon having access to recovery, or if your opponent can use is hit super effectively by psychic type moves, like Mega Venusaur. also obvious, also don't think you beat any recover mons
  • It is wise to only use Thunderbolt in situations where Dragon- and Psychic-moves are resisted or immune to. Examples include Heatran and Empoleon. tbolt water types is obvious, make this about how u use tbolt on heatran to 3hko
  • It is wise to send Latios out against Electric-, Fighting-, Fire-, Psychic-, Grass-, and Water-types which don't have a super effective move to OHKO you as Latios resists all of these types and has many coverage moves to take them on. Examples of Pokemon you should send Latios out against are Zapdos, Mega Medicham, Victini, Mega Venusaur, and Primarina, notably Primarina has a super-effective STAB move in Moonblast but Latios has a high Special Defense stat which lets it tank that hit. also pretty obvious, but you can mention that you beat tapu fini and primarina, despite their moonblast coverage
  • Because of Latios having Levitate as its ability, it is immune to Ground-type moves, which is useful against Pokemon like Landorus-T, Donphan, and Krookodile. Using a Draco Meteor or Psychic is almost always wise because of the Electric- immunity and Hidden Power Fire not doing much damage. Common metagame foes such as Donphan and Mega Camerupt are examples of these Ground-types.
  • Make a point about sturdy donphan and non-Mirror Coat Magnezone, stating not to use draco meteor against sturdy mons, bc you're always going to be 2hkoing, you don't want to risk a potential miss, so psychic and hp fire is. always safer. Notably, Golem is an exception to this trait as it can #1: Use Continental Crush to OHKO Latios or #2: Use Sucker Punch twice to 2HKO Latios, with its Sturdy ability.
  • If you see a Pokemon that is 4x weak to Fire- which you also outspeed, send out Latios as Hidden Power Fire can OHKO or 2HKO all of the common ones in the 1v1 metagame. Examples of 4x weak to Fire-Pokemon include Ferrothorn, Mega Scizor, Magnezone, and non-Choice Scarf Genesect.
  • Avoid sending Latios against physically offensive Pokemon that Latios can't outspeed and OHKO as Latios has very weak HP and Defense. Examples include but are not limited to specially defensive Mega Charizard X, Mega Gyarados, bulky Dragonite, Mega Metagross, and Outrage Zeraora. Zera doesn't need to use outrage, they can fake out into charge into z-plasma and win. Most zera are either going to have fake out + Charge + plasma or fake out + bulk up + outrage
  • mention to be wary of faster special threats like gren naga and scarf pz
  • Against Primarina, use Psychic instead of Thunderbolt which would seem like the play to not get in Primarina's Torrent range, where it can Moonblast into Aqua Jet and have a chance of KO'ing Latios.
so usage tips don't need to be this long, you can just not even mention the obvious bits about type advantages and jump straight to the metagame-relevant info. Consider type matchups to be not worth mentioning

Team Options
========

  • Physically defensive Pokemon make superb partners for Latios as it is lacking in HP and Defense stats.
  • Steel-types such as Celesteela, Mega Metagross, Heatran, Ferrothorn, and Kartana are super effective against Fairy- and Ice-types that Latios is weak to, while also resisting Bug-, Dragon-, and Ice-types that Latios is weak to. Examples of these types include Mega Gardevoir, Alolan Ninetales, Crustle, and bulky Dragonite.
  • I would give special mention to heatran, as it can 1) lure in waters and grounds, 2) beat steels fairies and spdef char x, which no other steel can do.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

  • Other move options are Energy Ball over Thunderbolt, which lets Latios hit Mega Swampert and Gastrodon would use Quagsire as a more relevant example, but both are used, so harder, but losing Heatran, Celesteela and Togekiss matchups.
  • Ice Beam hits Pokemon like Mega Altaria, Serperior, and Whimsicott for super effective damage, which it otherwise would not be able to do.
  • Shadow Ball is an interesting choice over Hidden Power Fire that gives Latios a way to hit Psychic-types like bulky Tapu Lele, bulky non-Bullet Punch Mega Metagross, and Mew, while foregoing Ferrothorn and Mega Scizor matchups. I would slash on Shadow Ball over Hp Fire, lele and metagross are easy lures to these bulky psychics and cleanly ko them, also is still reliable against mons like Magnezone and Kartana
  • Latios can use a Choice Scarf set with a Modest nature to outspeed and KO faster Pokemon such as Greninja, Naganadel, and Mega Lopunny.

===================

**Special Walls**: Latios can not deal with specially defensive Pokemon if it doesn't have a super effective move against them as it is limited in its power, even with Choice Specs. Examples of walls that Latios can't beat are Registeel, Aegislash not rlly a special wall, it just ohkoes with a z move. , and Chansey.

**Bulky Steel-types**: Latios fails to knock out bulky Steel-types for Hidden Power Fire can't OHKO or 2HKO them, such as Mega Metagross, Mega Mawile, and Mega Aggron. you can combine this with bulky offense

**Fast Attackers** Though Latios has an above average Speed stat, it is still outsped and KOed by most "fast" Pokemon in the 1v1 metagame, including Greninja, Choice Scarf Porygon-Z, Naganadel, and Pheromosa.

**Stall Pokemon** As Latios' most powerful move, Draco Meteor, reduces your Special Attack by 2 every time you use it, Latios does not fare well against Pokemon that have access to recovery, such as Mega Sableye and Type: Null. i think you can combine this with special walls

[OVERVIEW]

Latios has an interesting role in the 1v1 metagame being one of the two Dragon / Psychic types along with its brethren (Mega) Latias. It has decent Special bulk which allows it to take hits from bulky offensive Pokemon like Primarina and Celesteela, and or offensive nukes that you resist, like Mega Charizard Y. Its typing and ability also lets it resist key threats from Fire-, Ground, and Electric-types such as Heatran, Mega Camerupt, Donphan, and Xurkitree. Its above average Special Attack and Speed allow it to take on a variety of Pokemon commonly used in the 1v1 metagame like Landorus-T. this part is basically filler Latios' diverse movepool Draco Meteor boasts an impressive base power and is the main appeal of Latios able to OHKO common Dragon-types, such as Zygarde-C, Kommo-o, and non-Choice Scarf Garchomp. Its variety of moves that can help it take down threats, such as Thunderbolt, Shadow Ball, and Hidden Power Fire can take down unsuspecting Tapu Fini, Genesect, Kee Berry Mew, and Ferrothorn. allows it to KO a variety of foes, such as Kommo-o, Heatran, Tapu Fini, and Kee Berry Mew. On the other hand, Latios' typing leaves it weak to Fairy-, Dark- and Steel-types like Mega Gardevoir, Greninja would change this bc most will be using ice beam, not dark pulse and offensive Mega Metagross. Lastly, it relies way too much on a predictable Choice Specs set that can be easily bulked for from bulky offense staples, while it in return cannot EV itself to live hits from Pokemon like Greninja or Mega Lopunny. Furthermore, Latios' moves don't have a high base power so they need the boost from Choice Specs to OHKO or 2HKO common threats. Lastly, other Dragon-types give Latios a lot of competition as some of the special attacking ones just outclass it in power and bulk, the only redeeming quality being Latios' variety of coverage moves, this isnt rlly true, especially when compared to naganadel. It's benefits basically is mostly just levitate when compared to naganadel, alongside slightly useful psychics for mega venusaur and better overall bulk for bulky mega metagross especially other Dragon-types like Naganadel have higher Speed to take out faster threats while almost having the same Special Attack stat, only losing out on HP, Defense, and Special Defense. this doesn't encapsulate why naganadel is higher ranked: its poison type stab is much more useful for more fairies, which is cool for a dragon type, while having a stronger fire type coverage move as well, alongside the higher speed; bulk doesn't rlly apply. Make this its own section

Just make this point entirely about Naganadel, tbh. Thats who it faces the most amount of competition from

Notably, it is also able to hit Heatran for neutral damage whilst the rest of its moves are not effective versus it. Psychic is another one of Latios' STAB used to mainly beat Poison- and Fighting-types, namely Mega Venusaur and Mega Heracross. 224 EVs are invested into Special Attack to maximize its power without investing a nature, to make it the most threatening to the metagame it is capable of being, allowing Latios to 3HKO most Heatran. 252 Speed EVs and a Timid nature are invested to outspeed Durant and Kartana and OHKO them. 32 HP EVs are invested to take a Moonblast into a Torrent-boosted Aqua Jet from Primarina.

Usage Tips
========

Avoid faster Dragon- Pokemon which can all OHKO you easily because of your lackluster bulk. Examples include, such as Choice Scarf Garchomp and Naganadel. Notably, specially defensive Mega Charizard X can stay in it's base forme turn one, Flame Charge or Dragon Dance to boost its speed, and OHKO Latios turn two with Outrage after Mega Evolving. Against Heatran, use Thunderbolt as it is the highest base power move that you have because of Draco Meteor and Psychic being resisted. You also can to 3HKO it reliably because of the Special Attack investment in EVs. Despite Tapu Fini and Primarina's Moonblast coverage, you can use Thunderbolt twice whilst taking a hit from them because of the HP investment in Primarina's case their lack of Special Attack investment. Because of Latios having Levitate as its ability, it is immune to Ground-type moves, which is useful against Pokemon like Landorus-T, Donphan, and Krookodile. Don't use Draco Meteor against Sturdy ability Pokemon like Donphan or non-Mirror Coat Magnezone as you already have the 2HKO secured in most cases its more like you are forced to 2hko because of sturdy and you don't want the chance to miss. Avoid sending Latios against physically offensive Pokemon that Latios can't outspeed and OHKO as Latios has very weak HP and Defense. Examples include but are not limited to specially defensive Mega Charizard X, Mega Gyarados, bulky Dragonite, offensive Mega Metagross, and Zeraora. Be weary against fast attacking threats that can easily land a OHKO on you while you can't do anything, such as Porygon-Z, Greninja, and Zeraora. Lure in common metagame threats such as bulky Mega Metagross and Tapu Lele if you have Shadow Ball and 2HKO them.

Latios can use a Choice Scarf set with a Modest nature to outspeed and KO faster Pokemon such as Greninja, Naganadel, and Mega Lopunny. Z-Heal Block can be used to boost Latios' Special Attack by 2 to have higher damage results starting on turn 2 and block the opposing Pokemon's healing, not needing the Z-Crystal for that though, or can use Psychium Z with Psychic for higher damage output with it's lackluster-otherwise Psychic attack. Examples of what this set which beats include Mega Slowbro, Type: Null, and Serperior. aight i just tested this and although serp doesn't heal with leech seed it still saps away latios' health, which means serp can stall out damage if you just wait the 5 turns. Heal Block doesn't bypass the protect, so after you wait 5 turns you can just heal again with protect sub

Hidden Power Fire, because of its low Base Power, is used against Pokemon that are 4x weak to Fire-moves such as Ferrothorn and Mega Scizor, as well as non-Mirror Coat Magnezone. Shadow Ball is an interesting choice over Hidden Power Fire that gives Latios a way to hit Psychic-types like bulky Tapu Lele, bulky non-Bullet Punch Mega Metagross, and Kee Berry Mew, while foregoing forgoing (typo) the Ferrothorn and Mega Scizor matchups. Trick is another option, yet losing out on the matches that Hidden Power Fire beats, yet gaining the win versus most stall-based Pokemon like Type: Null.

(shouldn't you start with the hp evs first?) 224 The remainder of the EVs are invested into Special Attack to maximize its Latios' power without investing a nature, to make it the most threatening to the metagame it is capable of being, allowing Latios to 3HKO most Heatran. 252 Speed EVs and a Timid nature are invested to outspeed Durant and Kartana and OHKO them. 32 HP EVs are invested to take a Moonblast into a Torrent-boosted Aqua Jet from Primarina.

Usage Tips
========

Avoid faster Dragon-type Pokemon which can all OHKO you Latios easily because of your its lackluster bulk, such as Choice Scarf Garchomp and Naganadel. Notably, specially defensive Mega Charizard X can stay in it's its base forme turn one, use Flame Charge or Dragon Dance to boost its Speed, and OHKO Latios turn two with Outrage after Mega Evolving. Against Heatran, use Thunderbolt. Despite Tapu Fini and Primarina's Moonblast coverage, you can use Thunderbolt twice to KO them whilst taking a hit from them because of their lack of Special Attack investment. Because of Latios having Levitate as its ability, it is immune to Ground-type moves, which is useful against Pokemon like Landorus-T, Donphan, and Krookodile. Don't use Draco Meteor against Sturdy ability Pokemon like Donphan or non-Mirror Coat Magnezone, (AC) as Sturdy makes you have to hit two times when Psychic has the 2HKO secured in most cases and you don't want the chance to miss. Avoid sending Latios against physically offensive Pokemon that Latios can't outspeed and OHKO, (AC) as Latios has very weak HP and Defense. Examples include but are not limited to specially defensive Mega Charizard X, Mega Gyarados, bulky Dragonite, offensive Mega Metagross, and Zeraora. Be weary wary against fast attacking threats that can easily land a OHKO on you Latios while you it can't do anything, such as Porygon-Z, Greninja, and Zeraora. Lure in common metagame threats such as bulky Mega Metagross and Tapu Lele if you have Shadow Ball and 2HKO them.

Team Options
========

Physically defensive Pokemon make superb partners for Latios, (AC) as it is lacking in HP and Defense stats. Good partners include Mega Slowbro, Registeel, and Ferrothorn. In return, Latios provides a higher damage output to take out bulkier threats that these Pokemon (cannot?) deal with, such as Mega Charizard Y, non-Choice Scarf Genesect, and Heatran. Also, Fairy-types such as Mega Mawile, Mega Altaria, Mega Gardevoir, Magearna, and Mega Diancie with their Fairy-type STABs STAB moves can cover Dragon-types and Dark-types such as Dragonite, Haxorus, Mega Gyarados, and Hoopa-U. Furthermore, Steel-types such as Celesteela, Mega Metagross, Ferrothorn, and Kartana are super effective against can hit super effectively Fairy- and Ice-types that Latios is weak to, while also resisting Bug-, Dragon-, and Ice-types that Latios is weak to. Examples of these types include Mega Gardevoir, Alolan Ninetales, Crustle, and bulky Dragonite. Lastly, Heatran, notably, can lure in Water- and Ground-type Pokemon such as Primarina, Tapu Fini, and Donphan, and also beat Steel- and Fairy-types like Mega Mawile, Mega Gardevoir, and Tapu Lele, (AC) which Latios lacks the ability to in most cases, and also beat specially defensive Mega Charizard X, (AC) which most other Steel-types can't do.

Other Options

Energy Ball can be run over over Thunderbolt, which lets Latios OHKO Mega Swampert and Quagsire, but loses out on the Heatran and Celesteela's matchups. Ice Beam hits Pokemon like (this isn't necessary unless there are other Pokemon besides Mega Altaria that ice beam lets you win vs. that draco doesn't) Mega Altaria for super effective damage, which it Latios otherwise would not be able to do. Latios can use a Choice Scarf set with a Modest nature to outspeed and KO faster Pokemon such as Greninja, Naganadel, and Mega Lopunny. Z-Heal Block can be used to boost Latios' Special Attack by 2 two stages to have higher damage results starting on turn 2 two and block the opposing Pokemon's healing, or can use Psychium Z with Psychic for higher damage output with it's lackluster-otherwise its otherwise lackluster Psychic attack which beats Mega Slowbro and Type: Null.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Bulky Walls**: Latios can(remove space)not deal with physically or speccially defensive Pokemon if it doesn't have a super effective move against them, (AC) as it is limited in its power, even with Choice Specs. Examples of walls that Latios can't beat are Registeel, Type: Null, Chansey, and Mega Sableye.

**Fairy-types**: Latios has a hard time against Fairy-types in general, (AC) as they are immune to Latios' strongest STAB move and are neutral to or resist all of Latios' other moves. Examples include Mega Gardevoir, Mega Altaria, Mega Mawile, Tapu Lele, and Magearna.

**Fast Attackers**:(add colon) Though Latios has an above average Speed stat, it is still outsped and KOed by most "fast" Pokemon in the 1v1 metagame, including Greninja, Choice Scarf Porygon-Z, Naganadel, and Pheromosa.

**Bulky Offense**:(add colon) Most bulky offensive Pokemon can easily tank Latios' attacks and either set up and knock them it out the next turn or OHKO it right away with a powerful or super effective move. Examples include specially defensive Mega Charizard X, Dragonite, Mega Gyarados, Mega Metagross, and Mega Mawile.

[OVERVIEW]

Latios has an interesting role in the 1v1 metagame, being one of the two Dragon / Psychic types along with its brethren (Mega) Latias. It has Its decent special bulk, which allows it to take hits from bulky offensive Pokemon like Primarina and Celesteela (RC) and/or as well as offensive nukes that it resists (RC) like Blast Burn from Mega Charizard Y, (comma) and its typing and ability also let it resist key threats attacks (?) from Fire-, Ground-, and Electric-types such as Heatran, Mega Camerupt, Donphan, and Xurkitree. Latios' Latios's diverse movepool also allows it to KO a variety of foes, such as Kommo-o, Heatran, Tapu Fini, and Kee Berry Mew. On the other hand, Latios' Latios's typing leaves it weak to Fairy-, Dark- and Steel-types like Mega Gardevoir, Hoopa-U, and offensive Mega Metagross. Lastly, it relies way too much on a predictable Choice Specs set that can be easily bulked for from bulky offense staples can easily be EVed to tank hits from, while it in return cannot EV itself to live survive hits from Pokemon like Greninja or and Mega Lopunny. Furthermore, Latios' Latios's moves (meteor exists, "most of Latios's moves"?) don't have a high Base Power, so they need the boost from Choice Specs to OHKO or 2HKO common threats. Lastly, Latios is almost outclassed by Naganadel because of Naganadel's the latter's Poison-type STAB, helping it to beat common Fairy-types in the metagame such as Mega Gardevoir, its high Speed stat which lets it to outspeed faster threats in the metagame, like Serperior, and stronger Fire-type coverage helping to help with Steel-types (RC) like Mega Mawile and Magearna. Its Latios's only redeeming qualities over Naganadel are its ability in Levitate, immunizing it to STAB attacks from common Ground-type staples like Donphan and Choice Scarf Landorus-T in the metagame, and its Psychic-type coverage, which can help against Poison- and Fighting-types like Mega Venusaur and Mega Blaziken.
