League of Legends: Let's Talk About uhhh??

the problem with going against graves is that his kit provides him with everything except sustain, so when you're looking to counter pick theres no real glaring weakness to exploit against him alone ( as opposed to other ads like cait who doesnt have a steroid or kog'maw who doesnt have an escape). to this end picking soraka to deny him the best sustain is a good move, however that still leaves open sona, and a graves/sona lane is actually a bit scarier than a graves/soraka lane due to the amount of things their kits combined can do. if you do end up facing graves/soraka it largely comes down to timing your harass and engage correctly. if playing as lulu or sona against that lane you have amazing potential for harass as long as you keep control of the bushes. sona just straight up does a lot of damage with Q+power chord, and as long as you have you ad to cover your escape you shouldnt take more than one auto attack from him and it will be easy for you to heal off that damage. the best time to do this harassment is when you think hes about to go for a CS, this is to force him to react to you and miss the CS as well as hitting him when his true grit isnt up. while its true that soraka will just be able to heal off your harass, you can harass and do damage faster than soraka can heal which sets up you main opportunity to do damage. if you can force soraka to heal him while hes still trying to CS then you can wait for the astral blessing armor bonus to run out and then Q+power chord him again but this time with your ad going in for a few hits as well. then you pop E and back out just slightly. this will force him to play defensively until astral blessing is back up and you can use this time to do stuff like ward dragon or just keep poking with Q. when you go in for the engage you can also Q and wait for you ad to do a hit or two then E and E power chord graves to make sure he cant chase. if he dashes up to hit you hes blown his escape trying to initiate and hes distanced himself from his support. this would also be a great time to crescendo as you'll be able to stun him near your AD while he wont have too many true grit stacks. Lulu plays really similarly but there are some pretty cool things you can do with her kit. if you see soraka coming too far up using help pix on her can scare her back which will set up an easy glitterlance on graves. i think you can also do this by using help pix on a ward in their bush but im not sure. a lulu in brush is actually really annoying since she can help pix the creep your're trying to CS and get a point blank glitterlance, which both causes grave to lose cs and hurts him. its important to not kill any creeps with glitterlance though and its really important to make sure that if you do harass graves then your glitterlance actually hits since lulu is so slow if you dont you'll take a lot of damage. you also need to be safe with your mana and make every glitterlance count.

as far as AD's go urgot is really powerful in lane against graves soraka because he has great poke, builds tanky, and one of his core items is brutalizer which does well versus astral blessing and true grit. i dont know if i would recommend him though as his damage falls off late game, and though he is still useful in initiating and picking off champs, you really have to rely on the rest of your team for the bulk of the damage in team fights. the second route you could go is MF and just try to win your lane super hard. with MF its all about using impure shot before you think soraka is about to heal him, and timing the opponent sorakas cooldowns can be very useful. MF falls off hard late game compaired to graves but against a sustain support you have a really good chance of winning lane. lastly you could go with Kog'maw or corki. both are really strong against astral blessing due to their poke being magic damage. graves will still get a bit extra magic resist due to soraka's passive but with kog'maws W and corki's everything you can nullify the amazing armor buff soraka gives which limits when graves and counter initiate on your poke. also kog'maw and corki are just hella strong in general.

and harass a lot before soraka hits 3 cause at rank one astral blessing is pretty underwhelming and even at rank two its not really spectacular.

Thank you so much for putting so much effort into that post, I really appreciate it and will take it to heart! (Also wow it's so helpful @_@ I definitely wasn't expecting such a response, thank you!)

I think I found my favorite Jungle build.. (Skarner, Udyr, Jax, etc..)

Boots->Madred->Philo->HoG->Wits/Mercs->Wits/Mercs->Warden's->Bloodrazor

Standard for the most part but I'm really digging the DPS increase Bloodrazor gives. Its expensive but wow it pays off Mid-Late.

graves+soraka is a difficult lane to fight but they fall off starting mid-late game. if you're playing with someone like kog'maw or ashe just focus on getting into the late-game, where your carry will have more damage and do more than graves would. janna can effectively counter graves burst once she hits the level 7-9 area. sona has a harder time keeping up with his harass.

personally i'd rather have a triforce or a mallet but that might just be me. idk.

Graves' damage hardly falls off, he has the best AS steroid of any carry (second strongest, 100% uptime if you attack uninterrupted). Ashe do more damage than... any other carry? "lol" Graves' weakness is his poor range.

Honestly I don't even know why people are still riding Soraka's ass. She heals less over time for more mana than both Sona and Alistar, deals less damage in lane than either of them (though she makes some of that back by being able to funnel her AD mana) and has arguably the worst CC of all the traditional supports (Sona only gets one AoE stun per fight). The strength of her heal is in the Armor buff, making it more akin to Janna or Lulu's shield in that optimally you want to be using it mid-combat, except it has like twice the cooldown and costs twice the mana. ;/ I kinda wish people would start treating her like Lulu's been getting and solo laning her more, frankly I just don't understand the appeal of her as a support champion relative to her peers currently. She's pretty much the anti-mage Kassadin wishes he was and quite good against most bruisers to boot, though her lack of mobility makes her more susceptible to ganks top lane.

caitlyn is op harraser
fiddle is still a cunt
soraka is a hoe
why doesn't anyone use anivia
does morgana die against ap
hecarim is shit
i like all the feeding ahris this week

soraka's power isnt the total damage she can heal off its her burst heal in team fights. it doesnt matter if sona and alistar are much more mana efficient if they die with all that mana.

also soraka is like three heal baits at the same time.

I dunno why, but I still find it much easier to manage mana on Soraka than Sona. Sora's just hard to fail with, Ali/Taric still #1 supports though.

Mana management on Sona isn't hard if you start Faerie Charm and don't spam your abilities every 3 sec. I've had trouble with mana management on plenty of champions (Graves is a particular problem one for me), but Sona is not one of them.

Then again I haven't played her since her numerous nerfs so I dunno if they hit her mana regen at all.

I just wanted to take a moment to appreciate just how bad our pick up randoms in normals are. Somehow, even in this game, feeding incredibly hard(sivir rage quit)...

Oh one other silly one but the next game we were going to mess around with jungle Alistar and picked it first and Leona later to fuck with them a little (even though the two lanes are so similar that its pretty pointless). Anyway I was making this post and Cath was reading a guide so we forgot to trade... so we played the game with him Jungle and me Support initially like planned on the wrong characters, but our Blue got stolen early because we invaded theirs for FB (which I got) and then backed because we took some tower shots. Afterward he waited a little too long trying to gank and was even farther behind but we'd gotten 3 kills on bot already (FB + a double) so I told him just to take support and I would jungle with Pulv/Roar since the lane was pretty over and he was evenish with their botlane while i was a couple levels ahead. We ended up trading roles back and forth a few times over the course of the game and roaming a lot, but fortunately since the opponents were partially the same as the game before it ended well....

**team of smogoners including me feeds AD sion**

**AD sion 1v4 quadra kills outside our summoner platform**

pookar es mad

Warmogs+Manamune MissFortune and DunkMaster Yi builds didnt exactly help our team out.

first game = girl power + useless graves lee sin and olaf. after all, olf just wanted to farm

second game = the might of lokfar feels very left out

In my limited experience so far, I pretty much agree with this... the problem is that her abilities are extremely spammable and they're so good at the very beginning, so I can easily waste all of my mana by Q-ing them at every available opportunity. I just have to hold myself back, make every Power Chord count, and pace myself by the next level. So, in that sense, she is mana-hungry and I do have to be careful with her mana, since it really is very easy to run out of it, but I don't really feel it anymore... in bot games, though, I buy Mana Potions and press Q every time I'm in range.

Sometimes I have just enough mana for Crescendo, and I'm conserving it patiently in case I need to pull out the stun, but I have to suppress my trigger-happiness and not press W the moment someone takes damage / Q the moment an enemy champion is in range / E because I get impatient with my movespeed......... It's a slow and hard struggle, but I think I'm overcoming it zzz

Just a note, as Synre's screenshots reminded me -- in the few weeks I've been playing, I've already run into users: Vampy34 and gene on the enemy normal teams, and I had IPL's roommate (recognised the summoner name because IPL had told me the day before he had played ranked on it) on my team once. It's pretty funny / scary to find a Smogoner by chance! Vampy didn't recognise me until I told him on Steam after the match but g80 figured it was me right as we both got into lane, and I was all ~zoned out~ from the very splash screen by g80's reputation preceding him. So, yeah, if you see a jumpluffers, say hi for a free psychological edge!!! Though I think I know or would recognise most of your summoner names now anyway ~_~

Got two pentas 1 today and 1 yesterday as Sivir. She is deffinitely the best Ranked Solo Queue champ right now. The first penta was a 2v5 me and sion vs. the 5. Sure it was dumb for the other team to target sion first but he didnt die.2nd penta was a forced fight for their inhib where my teams galio and amumu got there ults off on most if not all of the enemy team.

woo smogon tournament. Also, upcoming wota and mundo nerfs are a little bit overdone imo. I guess I'll just stick with revolver until lategame unless I'm on a dual ap team.

I'd join but I live in Germany so problems regarding time might occur (thats why I won't take part in this).

Also flaming.
