Just as promised!
Lexicon is a game where you role play scholars. Yeah, you heard me right :P In this case, you roleplay Historians in a fictional setting.
Like most role playing games, there are no "winners" and "losers" (although you may be expelled from the game if you consistently produce subpar entries), but the rewards are hopefully an amusing world and history that we have created. The rules are simple.
1) Each turn, each player is assigned a random letter.
2) Each player must write up an entry with that specific letter. If, after the first turn, there are undefined entries starting with the assigned letter, you must write that entry first.
3) Each entry must contain at least two references to another entry. The entry does not have to exist (in fact, during the first turn everyone will make something up!)
4) The information in each entry is considered completely factual. While it is possible for you to interpret events differently (or in this case, you can refer to historical events people interpreting events differently leading to certain events, etc), you must treat every entry as fact - you can't contradict it.
5) Game ends after 26 turns. However, I may shorten the number of turns as I see fit.
Quite simple. We will be role playing as a group of Historians from an unspecified time period, looking back at these events. This is the first game of Lexicon so I'm leaving it horrendously open ended as possible - you can write about politics, philosophical trends, wars, historical figures, religion, etc. Feel free to make alterations to actual historical facts for this world. Since we are writing about History, while writing about entries you may want to consider the various ways people can interpret an event, and what past historians might have interpreted it. If accomplishing this, consider how interpretation of events are often changed based on current cultural standards.
The game will be hosted on a wiki, which will be up as soon as sign ups are over.
