[SET]
Ceruledge @ Life Orb
Ability: Adaptability / Sword of Ruin
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant / Jolly Nature
- Poltergeist
- Bitter Blade
- Shadow Sneak
- Swords Dance / Close Combat
[SET COMMENTS]
Ceruledge is among the most potent wallbreaks and cleaners in the AAA metagame due to the ridiculous power of STAB Poltergeist complemented by Bitter Blade and the ability to pick off faster threats with Shadow Sneak. With Swords Dance, Ceruledge can take advantage of Pokemon like Corviknight, Scream Tail, or Iron Moth to ease prediction and turn Shadow Sneak into very strong tool for cleaning up teams once would-be revenge killers like Roaring Moon or Zamazenta are sufficiently weakened. Close Combat paired with Sword of Ruin is an alternative to Swords Dance that OHKOes Roaring Moon and 2HKOes the occasional Ting-Lu, though Ceruledge is typically able to break through these foes with brute force, and the inability to boost Shadow Sneak's power is a major detriment. Adaptability is superior to Sword of Ruin on sets lacking Close Combat due to the latter not boosting Ceruledge's damage into opposing Sword of Ruin users like Zamazenta or Roaring Moon. An Adamant nature is preferred for its potential to 2HKO defensive Great Tusk and OHKO Swampert with Poltergeist, in tandem with the higher power improving Shadow Sneak's revenge killing capabilities, but a Jolly nature can be used to outspeed Choice Specs Gholdengo as well as Adamant nature Great Tusk and opposing Ceruledge.
Ceruledge fits best on bulky offense or hyper offense teams that appreciate its nuclear wallbreaking and powerful priority. Zamazenta is Ceruledge's best partner on bulky offense, as it takes advantage of the Dark-types that can pivot into or revenge kill Ceruledge, while in return Ceruledge easily gets through Zamazenta's checks—Ghost-types like Gholdengo and Pecharunt as well as Fluffy users such as Great Tusk and Corviknight. Ceruledge loves being paired with bulky pivots like Manaphy, Iron Hands, Landorus-T, and Corviknight that can help it hit the field safely, as well as providing it refuge from revenge killers. Special attackers like Latios, Zapdos, and Deoxys-S can force in special walls like Swampert, Heatran, and Iron Treads for Ceruledge to use as wallbreaking opportunities. Latios is a particularly great partner that can use Flip Turn to pivot Ceruledge in against its checks like Gholdengo, Swampert, Volt Absorb Corviknight, and Scream Tail in addition to being a special attacker that is unbothered by RegenVest Roaring Moon, a special wall that is much less afraid of Ceruledge. Ceruledge is vulnerable to being revenge killed by faster Dark-types like Roaring Moon, Chien-Pao, and Meowscarada that resist Shadow Sneak, as well as foes like Zamazenta that can take even a boosted Shadow Sneak due to its excellent bulk. As such, solid answers to them such as Corviknight, physically defensive Manaphy, Iron Hands, Landorus-T, or Gliscor that can switch into these revenge killers are important partners for Ceruledge. On hyper offense teams Ceruledge is best paired with Sticky Web users like Smeargle that can slow down most would-be revenge killers, turning Ceruledge into an absolutely brutal sweeper and wallbreaker that can outspeed and OHKO entire teams after a single use of Swords Dance. On these teams, attackers like Sheer Force Thundurus, Tail Glow Manaphy, and Swords Dance Garchomp make for great partners that can keep maximum pressure on the opponents.
