-Teambuild
Greetings, I wanted to post this during some possible action in Darkrai, the Pokémon of nightmares, but to avoid being outdated I'm posting it now, I introduce you to Komala, the Drowsing Pokémon.
The team started with interest in Komala on the stallcord (I don't know why), initially by Fleance, with the help of knexhawk at the team's base, as Komala was already out of the curve enough, or something like that.
Fleance give up, but I saw something that only Komala could provide, an incredible status absorber and blocker of the Slowking-Galar defensive pivot.
The moveset and Evs were polished during my climb from 1650-1977, the earliest older replays feature early versions mainly of Toxapex.
-Individual analysis
Komala @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Comatose
Tera Type: Dark
EVs: 252 HP / 176 Def / 80 SpD
Impish Nature
- Knock Off
- Rapid Spin
- Wish
- Protect
I hate Status Hex Darts Dragapult. Komala is immune to any statuses and Hex. (JUST due to its Normal type, if Komala changes Type with Terastal, it takes double damage, as it is “sleeping”.) Initially Tera Steel, but Tera Dark is the only real alternative, although it deals very well with Slowking-Galar without relying on it.
The spread is to survive 2 Dragon Darts from Dragapult's standard set in the Smogon calc. Rest in SpDef for Slowking-G.
Wish + Protect for your own longevity while blocking Future Sight's attempts to make progress. Knock Off and Rapid Spin are utilities. And yes, Komala reduces her need to think about what the eventual sacrifice will be, it will hardly be him. In some situations the teampreview can be 5x6, but being in this situation can mean that the other 5 will do the job without Komala.
Komala is not affected by Neutralizing Gas that irritates stall teams so much. Neither Worry Seed nor Skill Swap. It is still vulnerable to Leech Seed and Salt Cure, for example.
0 SpA Slowking-Galar Future Sight vs. 252 HP / 80 SpD Komala: 135-159 (40.4 - 47.6%)
0 SpA Slowking-Galar Psyshock vs. 252 HP / 176+ Def Komala: 96-114 (28.7 - 34.1%)
76 Atk Dragapult Dragon Darts (2 hits) vs. 252 HP / 176+ Def Komala: 138-164 (41.3 - 49.1%)
0 SpA Clefable Moonblast vs. 252 HP / 80 SpD Komala: 94-112 (28.1 - 33.5%)
0 SpA Slowking-Galar Psyshock vs. 252 HP / 176+ Def Komala: 96-114 (28.7 - 34.1%)
76 Atk Dragapult Dragon Darts (2 hits) vs. 252 HP / 176+ Def Komala: 138-164 (41.3 - 49.1%)
0 SpA Clefable Moonblast vs. 252 HP / 80 SpD Komala: 94-112 (28.1 - 33.5%)
Blissey @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Natural Cure
Tera Type: Dark
EVs: 136 HP / 120 Def / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Soft-Boiled
- Seismic Toss
- Calm Mind
- Shadow Ball
The team SpDef, originally with Protect, but Shadow Ball becomes more viable to break random Tera Ghost Substitute and deal damage to Dragapult / Gholdengo, especially before the latter gives you Critical Hit.
The spread survives 2 moves from Walking Wake Specs Timid Tera Water in Sun. Blissey is the priority Pokémon to use Tera followed by Gliscor, and Tera Dark is mandatory for Psyshock / Psychic Noise / Stored Power.
252 SpA Choice Specs Protosynthesis Tera Water Walking Wake Hydro Steam vs. 136 HP / 252+ SpD Blissey in Sun: 290-342 (42.3 - 49.9%)
Dondozo @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Unaware
Tera Type: Fighting
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Impish Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 18 Spe
- Rest
- Sleep Talk
- Body Press
- Curse
It's Dondozo. Avoid losing your Boots at all costs, every chip must be avoided. Body Press for Kingambit reasons, the team already deals with Ghost using other members.
18 IV Speed to do something before ursaluna min Speed under Trick Room. And we don't need EVs on Atk, Body Press uses Def for damage. Tera Fighting for Kingambit and STAB Body Press.
Gliscor @ Toxic Orb
Ability: Poison Heal
Tera Type: Dragon
EVs: 244 HP / 252 Def / 12 SpD
Impish Nature
IVs: 24 Spe
- Protect
- Toxic
- Spikes
- Knock Off
Tera Dragon for Ogerpon-Wellspring and Volcanion STABs, is normally the lead. Against Ogerpon-W, go straight to Toxic, even at the risk of losing your Toxic Orb. What usually happens is the opponent predicates Protect and uses Swords Dance or just attacks to maintain offensive pressure, as in the Preview Ogerpon-W is very oppressive. 24 Evs Speed allow it to be faster than Max Speed Kingambit And it is slower than other Gliscor that can have U-Turn, losing the item in other Pokémon.
Clefable @ Sticky Barb
Ability: Magic Guard
Tera Type: Dark
EVs: 252 HP / 228 Def / 28 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Moonblast
- Wish
- Protect
- Stealth Rock
Another Wish, this one to give the team some support, as Komala's base HP is very low.
Always evaluate the best target to make contact with and pass Sticky Barb. The priority is Roaring Moon against Offense and Gliscor against Defense, after removing the other players's Toxic Orb with your own Gliscor.
The spread allows it to survive both 1+ Proto Atk Tera Flying Acrobatics from RMoon and 2+ Ivy Cudgel Ogerpon-W without crit or Tera. Stealth Rock support. The crumbs in SpDef reduce the chances of being 2HKOed by Hex Dragapult under status from around 53% to 26%.
Tera Dark is to try and deal with Hoopa-U better, and neutralize possible Psychic Noise.
+2 252 Atk Wellspring Mask Ogerpon-Wellspring Ivy Cudgel vs. 252 HP / 228+ Def Clefable: 333-393 (84.5 - 99.7%)
+1 252 Atk Protosynthesis Tera Flying Roaring Moon Acrobatics (110 BP) vs. 252 HP / 228+ Def Clefable: 331-391 (84 - 99.2%)
180 SpA Dragapult Hex (130 BP) vs. 252 HP / 28 SpD Clefable: 177-208 (44.9 - 52.7%) -- 25.8% chance to 2HKO
+1 252 Atk Protosynthesis Tera Flying Roaring Moon Acrobatics (110 BP) vs. 252 HP / 228+ Def Clefable: 331-391 (84 - 99.2%)
180 SpA Dragapult Hex (130 BP) vs. 252 HP / 28 SpD Clefable: 177-208 (44.9 - 52.7%) -- 25.8% chance to 2HKO
Toxapex @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Regenerator
Tera Type: Ghost
EVs: 248 HP / 136 Def / 124 SpD
Impish Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Recover
- Toxic
- Haze / Infestation
- Baneful Bunker
Mixed Def for better information gathering about the opponent. Its moves changed during the scale, Baneful Banker is needed to punish contact and buy time against Sun. Toxic is the best choice for Kyurem. Haze is important for Primarina and especially SD Weavile and Scizor, as it is necessary to preserve Dondozo's Boots whenever possible. But if dealing chip damage to Steel-Types is your priority, go with Infestation which has good synergy with Baneful Bunker.
Recover as Toxapex is the main candidate for losing the Boots.
Throughout the scale his Tera was Steel, but I realized that Ghost has its merits and became my choice. Making it possible to escape Trapper like the infamous Volcanion Fire Spin, as well as adding a Spin Block alternative if there is no other priority for Tera.
This also removes its weaknesses, leaving it neutral to Kyurem's Freeze-Dry and Earth Power.
-Weakness:
and are natural stall enemies. As well as the not so common and .
forces Terastal to counterplay, just like Nasty Plot , always be wary of Psyshock.
A well-played is a problem, in addition to the Trick or Knock Off variants, Bad Dreams is the real problem, chipping Dondozo while using Rest, and Komala at any time.
is a threat assuming you don't know the set. Try figuring out the set with Toxapex (it survives everything except Specs Tera Ice Freeze-Dry), Blissey or Clefable, or even sacrificing Komala if necessary. Try poisoning him and then the team has several Protect users.

-Conclusion:
Komala has a real niche against Slowking-Galar as it cannot be affected by Thunder Wave, making its Wish + Protect immune to possible full para and better neutralizing the Future Sight + Chilly Reception strategy. Status Immunity gives you opportunity against passive and support Pokémon. Almost no one expects Knock Off or Rapin Spin, so a surprise factor is interesting. But never hesitate to sacrifice it just because it's the team's spotlight. In stall x stall, try giving Sticky Barb to the Flying-Type and abusing Gliscor and Clefable as Knock Off absorbers, never risking the Toxapex Boots. If you choose Infestation, you can force the opponent to spend PP. But as a stall it is unusual to try to force a point where you can argue with your opponent that you both have no wincon and offering a draw is a good option.
