Lure That Threat [That's All, Folks! (Paused For BSPL)]

chemcoop's Mamoswine

I was going to vote for Metagross, but I don't like how it loses to Foul Play p2, which is fairly common. Mamo on the other hand, can beat haxduck without taking a ton of damage.

Congratulations to chemcoop for winning with Fightinium Z Mamoswine! Your submission will be logged into the archive!

But can you guys take down the thicclord himself?

Hippowdon @ Iapapa Berry
Ability: Sand Stream
Level: 50
EVs: 228 HP / 60 Def / 220 SpD
Careful Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- Yawn
- Whirlwind / Slack Off

Many a Pokemon have succumbed to McDonalds Hippo, and for good reason: amazing bulk as well as lack of weaknesses to common physical attackers make it a great option against physical wallbreakers such as Mega Blaziken, and its special bulk is far from unusable as well. Not only that, but it can support the team by setting up Stealth Rock, putting foes to sleep with Yawn, and causing annoyance with Whirlwind, stopping setup and racking up chip. How will you slaughter this impenetrable fast food gourmand? Submissions will close and voting will begin Thursday evening. Good luck!

Excadrill @ Steelium-Z
Ability: Mold Breaker
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Magnet Rise
- Iron Head
- Earthquake
- Rock Slide

Hippo counters drill. Drill simply does not enough power without an SD already up to worry hippo at all and most drills nowadays are scarf, assault vest or sash which can't break mcdonalds. Drill is therefore an easy switch in for mcdonald's to come in and pop off an EQ as well as a decent lead matchup. This drill however is special. It baits in strong ground attackers like Hippo and Lando and punishes them with the magnet rise.

252+ Atk Mold Breaker Excadrill Earthquake vs. 228 HP / 60 Def Hippowdon: 79-94 (37.2 - 44.3%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
252+ Atk Mold Breaker Excadrill Corkscrew Crash (160 BP) vs. 228 HP / 60 Def Hippowdon: 127-150 (59.9 - 70.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

EQ into steelium is KOing about 75% of the time if that was the move you used on switchin (Iron head/rock slide into steelium never KO), but you can take it slower if you don't want to risk it by magnet rising and hippo can do nothing but phase out a mon it's supposed to beat on. Steelium in general is a great nuke due to excadrills gargantuan attack and it still is able to fulfill its niche of countering mimikyu with this set. Sash can also be used for volc/zard tho.

I think it's worth noting that Hippo with this much SpD is less common than the mixed bulk ones, which this Blaziken set cleanly OHKOes...

Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Grass Knot

- Dazziling Gleam / Hidden Power [Ice]

SpDef Hippo loves switching in Koko until it reveals Grass Knot/Bloom Doom. Grass Knot is a 2HKO and +1 Bloom Doom has a good shot at OHKOing MIshi's gf.

252 SpA Tapu Koko Grass Knot (120 BP) vs. 228 HP / 220+ SpD Hippowdon: 102-120 (48.1 - 56.6%) -- 87.5% chance to 2HKO
252 SpA Tapu Koko Bloom Doom (160 BP) vs. 228 HP / 220+ SpD Hippowdon: 136-160 (64.1 - 75.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

+1 252 SpA Tapu Koko Grass Knot (120 BP) vs. 228 HP / 220+ SpD Hippowdon: 152-180 (71.6 - 84.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

You can use Naive to secure the 2HKO with Grass Knot alone, but you can usually take out Hippowdon out with Grass Knot + Ice Punch, hitting it on both defenses.

All right, submissions are now closed! There are to be no edits of your own Pokemon, nor are there to be any new submissions A few quick things to note;
  • Voting will close on Sunday, where the next Lure That Threat will also be announced.

Congratulations to Darkinium and cant say for winning with Grass Knot Mega Metagross and Z-Solar Beam Blaziken, respectively! Your nominations will be logged in the archive!

This week is a Pokemon with many sets and options at its disposal, both offensive and defensive!

Tapu Fini @ Wiki Berry
Ability: Misty Surge
Level: 50
EVs: 236 HP / 220 Def / 28 SpA / 4 SpD / 20 Spe
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Surf
- Moonblast
- Taunt
- Nature's Madness / Reflect

Not kidding when I said lots of options do this thing: from moves (Nature's Madness, Taunt, Haze, Reflect, HP Fire, Calm Mind...) to items (pinch berries, Leftovers, Icium Z, Waterium Z, Sitrus Berry...), this thing has tons of things to cover a team's needs. Submissions will close and voting will begin Thursday evening. Good luck!

EDIT: Also, Grassium Z Blaziken submissions will be banned this round for obvious reasons. lol

EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Belch
- Draco Meteor
- Dark Pulse
- Flamethrower/Tailwind/U-turn/Roost

Tapu Fini often thinks, "Hydreigon can't do anything to me, free switch!" WRONG. Send Hydreigon against a Pokemon it can force out, like Aegislash, and watch Tapu Fini gets KOED.

Calcs: 252+ SpA Hydreigon Acid Downpour (190 BP) vs. 236 HP / 20 SpD Tapu Fini: 182-216 (104 - 123.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252+ SpA Hydreigon Acid Downpour (190 BP) vs. 236 HP / 20+ SpD Tapu Fini: 166-196 (94.8 - 112%) -- 68.8% chance to OHKO

Even if it is Calm, Tapu Fini will still be KOED thanks to switching in on Dark Pulse.

reserving Bloom Doom Heatran

Heatran @ Grassium Z
Ability: Flash Fire
Level: 50
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Solar Beam
- Fire Blast / Flamethrower / etc.
- Earth Power
- Flash Cannon

I'll admit this set's a lot more meta than most of what's in this thread, since its been around almost as long as Z moves have, so much so that Grassium Z is a slash on the Smogon set. However its usage is at a whopping 6.7%, so its likely to still be pretty unexpected despite all that.

The set itself is pretty straightforward, just force something weak to your STABs to switch to fini, or abuse the combo of Heatran's natural bulk and non-Hydro Vortex fini's inability to OHKO on the switch to come in safely, then outspeed and watch this happen.

252+ SpA Heatran Bloom Doom (190 BP) vs. 236 HP / 4 SpD Tapu Fini: 190-224 (108.5 - 128%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Not a surefire kill, but useful for hitting Tapu Fini on the switch in as it expects to soak up an Earthquake. If you're desperate, you can stay in and Fissure again since you outspeed and take a Surf as well.

Voting for wadusher's Z-Solar Beam Heatran. Much as I don't want to crown another Bloom Doom winner, this definitely has the most use outside of luring the specific target, barring perhaps Fissure Landorus-T, which hates giving up a move and I can't vote for since it's my own submission lol

Oh rip, forgot to nom Electrium Z Blaziken since Grassium was banned. Oh well.

I'm going with Heatran since it's a actually good mon in the current meta, but Z-Belch Hydreigon is fire

Leader Wallace's Z-Belch Hydreigon

This is pretty much the perfect definition of a lure. No one would ever expect Hydreigon to be able to beat Fini, which makes it an amazing lure.

Grassium Z Heatran, as Hydreigon is much less effective / threatening without carrying a choice item. Having essentially 3 moveslots after using zmove seems to be an issue too. Grassium Z Heatran actually lures many other Water-types while Hydreigon only has one target with Z-Belch...
