Lure That Threat [That's All, Folks! (Paused For BSPL)]

Darkinium's Encore Mega Lopunny

Really great tech with Encore and it has other applications as well, especially against stally things like McDonalds and Steelas.

Extrasensory Greninja

The only one I feel is obscure enough to actually lure Toxapex. A goodPex player would scout for coverage on Blaziken, and having played Encore Lopunny before, I find that even though it does disrupt Toxapex really well, it isn't strong enough to actually capitalise on that and break through, especially when it's paired with things like Celesteela and Gliscor. These mons give Lucario a similar amount of trouble. Hence, Greninja (Although that struggles with Steela too unless it has specific coverage. Too broken)

Cool Greninja set with a tech specifically for Snorlax

Greninja @ Focus Sash
Ability: Protean
Level: 50
EVs: 240 Atk / 12 SpA / 252 Spe
Naughty Nature
- Ice Beam
- Gunk Shot
- Rock Slide
- Low Kick

Snorlax is a usual switch-in to greninja as it doesn't care too much about torrent z-hydro or most protean greninja attacks. Low kick is an exception, 2HKOing most snorlax even after berry. Also decent vs. Ttar and Chansey.

240+ Atk Protean Greninja Low Kick (120 BP) vs. 148 HP / 252 Def Snorlax: 186-218 (73.2 - 85.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
240+ Atk Protean Greninja Low Kick (120 BP) vs. +1 148 HP / 252 Def Snorlax: 122-146 (48 - 57.4%) -- 94.9% chance to 2HKO

In all situations greninja wins.

On switchin -> Gunk/Rock slide into low kick KO most lax without proccing berry
1v1 scenario -> low kick procs berry most of the time, but at +1 snorlax cannot recycle stall Gren and there is focus sash in case of any attack.

Other EVs:

The 12 SpA is for bulky mega salamence KO with ice beam. Note that it is Naughty nature, not +speed.

Nihilego @ Rockium Z
Timid Nature
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
- Power Gem
- Acid Spray
- Thunderbolt / Psychic / Foul Play
- Hidden Power [Fire or Ice] / Foul Play

Unlike its fellow Poison Ultra Beast Naganadel, Metroid Nihilego can't boost its Special Attack outside of Beast Boost. But what if it could? Acid Spray + Continental Crush allow Nihilego to muscle through some of the non-steel mons that check it, including Snorlax. An alternate spread of 36 HP / 44 Def / 172 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe can be used to boost Speed instead, with the benefit of always living a Mega Metagross Bullet Punch from full, if you come across one after boosting.

252 SpA Nihilego Acid Spray vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Snorlax: 33-39 (12.3 - 14.6%) -- possible 7HKO after Gluttony Figy Berry recovery
172 SpA Nihilego Acid Spray vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Snorlax: 30-36 (11.2 - 13.4%) -- possible 8HKO after Gluttony Figy Berry recovery

252 SpA Nihilego Continental Crush (160 BP) vs. -2 252 HP / 4 SpD Snorlax: 247-292 (92.5 - 109.3%) -- 56.3% chance to OHKO
172 SpA Nihilego Continental Crush (160 BP) vs. -2 252 HP / 4 SpD Snorlax: 235-277 (88 - 103.7%) -- 25% chance to OHKO

Volcarona @ Mago Berry
Ability: Flame Body
Level: 50
EVs: 244 HP / 140 Def / 124 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Will-O-Wisp
- Flamethrower / Fiery Dance / Fire Blast
- Roost
- Quiver Dance / U-turn / Coverage

Thanks, my nomination from Next Best Thing! Anyways, Snorlax can do decent against Volcarona due to taking boosted hits and slamming it with Returns, which screw it over after SR. With this set you can surprise it by crippling it with a burn, neutralizing it up for teammates or even for your own setup

Bulky Volcarona. The basis of the set is Volc's ability to check stuff like Mega Metagross, Mimikyu, Mega Lucario, and Kartana. The speed with Timid allows you to outspeed Adamant Mimikyu, and the HP EVs let you switch into rocks twice from full health instead of once (thrice if you count the Mago Berry.) Will-O-Wisp relieves Volcarona's meh bulk and allows it to better check the aforementioned Pokemon. Roost keeps you healthy, and Fire STAB is a must on any Volc set. Quiver Dance allows you to sweep, U-turn gives you pivot into another threat on forced switches, and coverage of your choice allows to chip or beat stuff like Tapu Fini and Toxapex. Whirlwind is an option, but Volcarona would usually rather Will-O-Wisp, U-turn out, or attack a booster (either that, or Volc already loses to said sweeper anyways.) Alternatively, either Will-O-Wisp or Roost can be dropped to make room to run both Quiver Dance and a coverage move in the same moveset.

All right, submissions are now closed! There are to be no edits of your own Pokemon, nor are there to be any new submissions A few quick things to note;
  • Voting will close on Sunday, where the next Lure That Threat will also be announced.
  • You can't vote for your own submission
  • You can only change your vote once, so think carefully before doing so
  • You can vote even if you haven't made a submission. It is expected that you vote if you did submit yourself, but not compulsory

Tough between the two, but I think I'll settle for Thick Fat Azumarill's Acid Spray + Rockium Z Nihilego. Definitely an interesting concept that helps bust through stuff like Hippo, Lando, etc. Would better if there weren't so many steels though.

In hindsight Snorlax's Phazer set probably would've been better given its more defensive nature. Oh well :pikuh:

Congratulations to Darkinium for winning with Bulky Will-O-Wisp Volcarona! Your nomination will be logged into the archive!

Aight, so after some feedback on Discord yesterday, I've decided to take a bit of a new approach in these upcoming weeks: instead of focusing purely on defensive or bulky Pokemon, instead we'll do some offensive ones as well. This is mainly because more common offensives Pokemon merit a lure more than decently common defensive ones.

Metagross @ Metagrossite
Ability: Clear Body
Level: 50
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Iron Head
- Ice Punch
- Coverage (Earthquake / Thunder Punch / Hammer Arm / Zen Headbutt / Rock Tomb) / Bullet Punch
- Coverage / Bullet Punch

Anyways, we'll see how this goes. I'll see you guys again Thursday!

All right, let's get lazy and just copy-n-paste from last week lol

Nihilego @ Choice Scarf / Focus Sash
Timid Nature
EVs: 36 HP / 44 Def / 172 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
- Power Gem
- Sludge Wave
- Foul Play
- Filler

Before USUM, Nihilego had no way of touching Metagross aside from Hidden Power, and even that is a 3HKO anyways, meaning Megagross can come in safely on it if it's healthy. The move tutors blessed it with Foul Play, so it can now threaten the likes of Metagross and Excadrill with a move that doesn't do laughable damage. This spread survives a Bullet Punch from full.

252 Atk Tough Claws Mega Metagross Bullet Punch vs. 36 HP / 44 Def Nihilego: 158-188 (83.5 - 99.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

0- Atk Nihilego Foul Play vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Mega Metagross: 84-100 (54.1 - 64.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Breloom @ Toxic Orb
Ability: Poison Heal
Level: 50
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly / Adamant Nature
- Spore
- Substitute
- Low Sweep / Rock Tomb / Focus Punch / Bulk Up
- Focus Punch / Seed Bomb / Bullet Seed / Low Sweep / Rock Tomb / Swords Dance / Bulk Up / Facade

Mega Metagross is usually a pretty safe switch-in (or at the very least a check) to Breloom, especially if any Terrain not named Grassy is up. Breloom can Spore or set up a Sub on the switch, and it basically goes from hell to there. The 3rd slot is your guaranteed Meta counterplay: Low Sweep and Rock Tomb give you the speed advantage, allowing you to continue putting Metagross to sleep each time; Focus Punch is a 2HKO; Bulk Up allows you to live 1 Ice Punch from full at +1 and Spore Mega Metagross again, assuming you were behind a Sub prior.

The 4 HP EVs are important for Poison Heal recovery. A bulkier spread can be used if you like, just make sure your HP is divisible by 8. Jolly seems better on paper because you get to Sub up on more stuff like +speed Celesteela and Aegislash.

With the bulk it is a great check to mega metagross luring it in. The bulk also lets it survive other hits and win vs other mons you live and get wp + agility
