Magearna
QC [3/3] by motogp, charizard8888, MaceMaster
GP [0/2]
[OVERVIEW]

Magearna's Steel / Fairy typing is one of the best in the game, especially in 1v1. It grants Magearna great resistances for defensive purposes, allowing it to sponge hits from popular Dragon- and Fairy-type Pokemon. Magearna's typing is also great offensively, as it can hit opposing Fighting-, Fairy-, and Dragon-type Pokemon super effectively. Magearna also has stats that complement its typing, making it easier to survive hits and deal damage. Magearna is blessed with a powerful signature move in Fleur Cannon, which, when paired with Fairium Z, can OHKO a good portion of the metagame, and its movepool has other great options such as Calm Mind, Iron Defense, and plenty of coverage moves like Ice Beam and Energy Ball. However, its ability, Soul-Heart, is useless in the 1v1 metagame. Additionally, Magearna is weak to common Fire- and Ground-type attacks, which are some of the most popular in the metagame. It is also relatively slow, which means that it can lose to faster Pokemon that can deal a great amount of damage to or OHKO it before it sets up, such as Charizard, Excadrill, and Zygarde-C.

Moves
========

Fleur Cannon is Magearna's strongest STAB move, and it is all Magearna needs to nail important Pokemon. Iron Defense boosts Magearna's Defense, making it able to defeat physical attackers such as Mega Gyarados, Donphan, Golem, and Snorlax, which would otherwise easily OHKO or 2HKO it. Calm Mind boosts Magearna's Special Defense and Special Attack, which allows it to muscle through specially bulky Pokemon such as Mega Venusaur, Tapu Fini, and Porygon-Z after a Z-Conversion. Pain Split allows Magearna to chip away at the foe while avoiding the OHKO against Golem and Donphan after an Iron Defense. It also allows Magearna to replenish its health against Pokemon that are bulky enough to bring Magearna's health down such as Mega Metagross. It also helps Magearna defeat stall Pokemon such as Chansey.

Set Details
========

Fairium Z turns Fleur Cannon into a powerful Twinkle Tackle, which allows it to fire off a powerful attack without the Special Attack drop. 212 Speed EVs allow Magearna to outspeed Donphan, while the HP EVs and a Bold nature allow Magearna to survive a Tectonic Rage followed by Earthquake from Golem and Donphan after an Iron Defense boost. 48 Special Defense EV's Magearna to take Choice Specs Naganadel's Fire Blast.

Usage Tips
========

Use Magearna to defeat bulky offensive Pokemon that do not carry super effective moves that can OHKO it, such as Mega Mawile, Snorlax, and most Sturdy users, including Golem, Donphan, and Crustle. However, avoid sending Magearna out against faster Fire- and Ground-type Pokemon such as Charizard, Excadrill, and Landorus. The correct way to use Magearna depends on the foe; for example, if Magearna is up against a Donphan, Golem, Crustle, or Sawk, it must use Iron Defense, Pain Split, and Twinkle Tackle, in that order. This move sequence allows Magearna to tank at least two hits and recover its health in order to survive another hit. Simultaneously, Magearna breaks Sturdy, which allows it to finish off the foe with Twinkle Tackle. Against foes that are weak to Fairy-type moves, Magearna should use Twinkle Tackle first in order to not waste time, unless you are up against Dragonite. In this case, Magearna must use Iron Defense and then Pain Split to break Multiscale and heal off the damage; then, Magearna must use Twinkle Tackle to OHKO Dragonite and win the matchup. However, be wary that Choice Band Dragonite can easily defeat Magearna. Additionally, Magearna should only use Calm Mind against Pokemon that are either specially offensive or defensive such as Mega Venusaur and Porygon-Z.

Team Options
========

Magearna's main drawback is that Ground- and Fire-type Pokemon such as Zygarde-C, Garchomp, and Charizard can easily defeat it, which means that bulky Water-type Pokemon like Primarina and Mega Gyarados are generally appreciated teammates. In addition, some stall tactics such as Substitute + Leech Seed from Jumpluff and PP stalling from Deoxys-S defeat Magearna, so having Pokemon that beat them such as Hoopa-U and Buginium Z Crustle with Rock Blast is a good option. Furthermore, some Steel-types such as Metal Sound Aegislash and Magnezone give Magearna trouble, especially if they use stat-lowering moves, making Mega Charizard X a great partner for Magearna.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

A Choice Specs set with Fleur Cannon / Flash Cannon / Energy Ball / Hidden Power Fire gives Magearna a better matchup against some Pokemon the given set doesn't beat or rarely beats, such as Genesect, Mega Scizor, and Mega Swampert, but Magearna then misses out on beating a lot of threats such as Golem and Donphan. Magearna can also utilize two other sets to lure in and beat Ground-types; the first is an Air Balloon set with an EV spread of 232 HP / 240 SpA / 26 SpD and a Modest nature, while the second is a Shuca Berry set with an EV spread of 100 HP / 132 Def / 60 SpA / 216 and a Modest nature. The Air Balloon set's EVs allow Magearna to hit harder and secure more OHKOs than the Shuca Berry set, such as against Gyarados with Thunderbolt and Naganadel with Fleur Cannon, but this set mandates the use of Magnet Rise. On the other hand, the Shuca Berry set's defensive investment lets Magearna hits, and the set doesn't require Magearna to run Magnet Rise, but it doesn't hit as hard. Ice Beam is mandatory on both sets.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Faster Ground- and Fire-type Pokemon**: Faster Ground- and Fire-type Pokemon such as Charizard, Heatran, and Zygarde-C can easily OHKO Magearna with a STAB move before it can set up Iron Defense or Calm Mind.

**Steel-type Pokemon with Stat-lowering Moves**: Some Steel-type Pokemon such as Magnezone and Aegislash resists Magearna's attacks and can utilize Metal Sound to drop Magearna's Special Defense and OHKO it with Gigavolt Havoc or Never-Ending Nightmare respectively. Some other Steel-types can beat it if they run specific moves such as Mega Metagross with Laser Focus.

**Deoxys-S, Jumpluff, and Mimikyu**: All of these Pokemon run a stall strategy that can beat Magearna. Deoxys-S utilizes Amnesia PP stall, which allows it to survive a Twinkle Tackle. Jumpluff beats Magearna with Sleep Powder and Leech Seed, as Magearna doesn't have a way to recover HP after Jumpluff sets up a Substitute. Curse Mimikyu also beats Magearna, as it chips away Magearna's health while behind a Substitute.

You don't have to do this, but I'd highly recommend dropping 24 EVs from SpA into SpD - it lives Naga's Specs Fire Blast. If you do, don't forget to update set details

(A Bold nature isn't necessary to live the TectRage itself, but it is necessary to live the EQ following it) The rest is dumped in Special Attack allowing Magearna to deal a higher amount of damage.

You should use Magearna to defeat bulky offensive Pokemon that does not carry super effective moves that can OHKO it such as Mega Mawile, Snorlax, and most Sturdy users such as Golem, Donphan, and Crustle. A Choice Specs Magearna with Fleur Cannon, Flash Cannon, Energy Ball, and HP Fire (mention that Thunderbolt can also be used on this set [KOs pre-Mega Gyara]) gives it a better chance against some Pokemon the previous set doesn't or rarely beats such as Genesect, Mega Scizor, and Mega Swampert but you miss out on beating a lot of threats such as Golem and Donphan. It can also utilize a Shucca berry set to lure most, if not all Ground-type Pokemon, such as Garchomp, Donphan, and Golem. It becomes immune to their Ground-type move and beats them with either Fleur Cannon. Though be wary of Substitute Zygarde-C as it can defeat Magearna, but running Ice Beam may be able to beat it. Shuca Magearna is obselete to Air Balloon as in order to consistently beat Landorus-T and GolPhan, it needs 216 Spe, a good chunk of defense and Substitute. Mention that Air Balloon Magearnas should run Ice Beam and Magnet Rise in addition to Fleur Cannon.

Fleur Cannon is Magearna's strongest STAB special move, and it is all it Magearna needs to nail important wins Pokemon. Iron Defense boosts Magearna's defensive stats Defense, (AC) making it able to defeat physical attackers such as Mega Gyarados. (AP) especially if they are slower than it This is especially true with slower Pokemon such as Donphan, Golem, and Snorlax, (AC) which otherwise can would easily OHKO or 2HKO it Magearna. Meanwhile, Calm Mind boosts Magearna's Special Defense and Special Attack, (AC) which allows it to muscle through specially bulky Pokemon such as Mega Venusaur, Tapu Fini, and Porygon-Z after a Z-Conversion. Both Iron Defense and Calm Mind are great together work well together, (AC) as they can help Magearna defeat a lot of offensive and bulky offensive Pokemon in the metagame (I know I'm not 1v1 QC, but it might be worth adding some examples here). Pain Split allows Magearna to chip away at the opponent foe while avoiding the OHKO in some case such as against Golem and Donphan after an Iron Defense. It also allows Magearna to resplenish replenish its health against Pokemon that are bulky enough to bring Magearna's health down, (AC) such as Mega Metagross, (RC) and Mega Metagross (again not QC but these are the same Pokemon, so add a different example in the place of the second Mega Metagross). It also helps Magearna defeat stall Pokemon such as Chansey.

Set Details

Fairium-Z boosts turns Fleur Cannon to into a powerful Twinkle Tackle, (AC) which allows it to nail fire off a powerful attack without the Special Attack drop. 212 Speed EVs allow Magearna to outspeed Donphan, while the HP EVs and the Bold nature allows Magearna to live survive a Tectonic Rage plus followed by Earthquake from Golem and Donphan after an Iron Defense boost. The rest is dumped in into Special Attack, (AC) allowing Magearna to deal a higher amount of more damage. (what are the 24 SpD EVs for?)

Usage Tips

You should Use Magearna to defeat bulky offensive Pokemon that does do not carry super effective moves that can OHKO it, (AC) such as Mega Mawile, Snorlax, and most Sturdy users, (AC) such as (repetition) including Golem, Donphan, and Crustle. However, (AC) avoid sending Magearna out against faster Fire- and Ground-type Pokemon such as Charizard, Excadrill, Landorus, and more. How to use The correct way to use Magearna depends on the opponent foe; (remove comma and add semicolon) per for example, (AC) if Magearna is up against a Donphan, Golem, Crustle, or Sawk, it must first Iron Defense, Pain Split, (AC) then Twinkle Tackle. This allows it to tank the first or second hit, then recover its health in order to live another hit while at the same time breaking the Sturdy then finishing the opponent of with Twinkle Tackle. This move sequence allows Magearna to tank at least two hits and recover its health in order to survive another hit. Simultaneously, Magearna breaks Sturdy, which allows it to finish off the opponent with Twinkle Tackle. (this sentence was not really possible to fix in its original state, so I had to re-write it so that it was.) Meanwhile Against opponents foes that are weak to Fairy-type moves, (AC) Magearna you should use the Z-move Twinkle Tackle in the first turn in order not to waste time, unless you are up against Dragonite. (RC and AP) In which this case, (AC) you Magearna must use Iron Defense, (RC) then use Pain Split to break Multiscale and heal off the damage; (AS) and then, Magearna must use Twinkle Tackle to OHKO Dragonite and win the matchup. Be wary, (AC) however though; (RC and AS) Choice Band Dragonite can easily defeat Magearna. It Additionally, Magerana also should only use Calm Mind against Pokemon that are either specially offensive or defensive, (AC) such as Mega Venusaur and Porygon-Z. (AC)

Magearna's main drawback is that Ground- and Fire-type Pokemon such as Zygarde-C, Garchomp and Charizard can easily defeat it, (AC) which means that bulky Water-type Pokemon such as Primarina and Mega Gyarados are generally appreciated teammates. In addition, some stall tactics such as Substitute Leech Seed from Jumpluff and PP Stall from Deoxys-S defeats Magearna, (AC) so having Pokemon that beat them such as Hoopa-U and Buginium-Z Crustle with Rock Blast is a good option. Furthermore, (AC) some Steel-types Pokemon give Magearna trouble, (AC) especially if they use stat lowering moves. A Choice Specs Magearna with Fleur Cannon, Flash Cannon, Energy Ball, and HP Hidden Power Fire gives Magearna it a better chance matchup against some Pokemon the previous set doesn't or rarely beats, (AC) such as Genesect, Mega Scizor, and Mega Swampert, (AC) but you Magearna then misses out on beating a lot of threats, (AC) such as Golem and Donphan. Meanwhile Some other Steel-types can partially beat it, (AC) (What do you mean by "partially beat it"?) such as Mega Metagross if it uses Laser Focus.

**Deoxys-S, Jumpluff, and Mimikyu**: All of these Pokemon run a stall strategy that can beat Magearna. Deoxys-S utilizes Amnesia PP stall, (AC) which allows it to live a Fairium-Z Fleur Cannon Twinkle Tackle. Jumpluff beats Magearna with Sleep Powder and Leech Seed, (AC) as it Magearna doesn't have a way to recover HP after Jumpluff sets up a Substitute. Mimikyu with Curse Mimikyu also beats Magearna, (AC) as it chips away its Magearna's health while being behind a Substitute.

[OVERVIEW]

Magearna's Steel/Fairy Steel / Fairy (with slashes for dual typings and stuff, there should be spaces before and after the slash) typing is one of the best typing in the game, and especially in 1v1. It grants Magearna great resistances for defensive purposes, (AC) allowing it to sponge popular hits from the popular Dragon-, (RC) and Fairy-type Pokemon (excellent changes). Magearna's typing is also acts as an offensive tool great offensively, (AC) as it can hit super effectively super effectively hit opposing Fighting-, Fairy-, and Dragon-type Pokemon super effectively. Magearna also has the stats which that complements (nothing wrong, but knowing the difference between compliment and complement is important, since this term is used frequently) its typing, (AC) making it easier to survive hits or and deal damage. Magearna is blessed with a powerful signature move in Fleur Cannon, which, (AC) (good) when paired with Fairium-Z, (AC and RH) can OHKO a good portion of the metagame. Not only that, but Magearna also has a great moveset movepool with moves such as Calm Mind, Iron Defense, (AC) and plenty of coverage moves like Ice Beam, (RC) and Energy Ball,(RC) which seal the whole package. (this is fluff similar to the next sentence you deleted) However, Magearna isn't without weaknesses. (Generally, you don't want to include sentences like this in analyses, since they're fluff) However, Its its ability, Soul-Heart, is useless in the 1v1 metagame. Additionally, it Magearna (it's good to not refer to the Pokemon as just "it" every once in a while) is weak to the common Fire-,(RC) and Ground-type attacks, (AC) which are some of the most popular in the metagame. It is also relatively slow, which means that it can lose to faster Pokemon that can deal a great amount of damage to (parallelism. "...Pokemon that can deal a great amount of damage to it before it sets up" and "Pokemon that can OHKO it before it sets up") or OHKO it before it sets up, (AC) (this comma is fine for readability but read my other comments about this later on in the check) such as Charizard, Excadrill, and Zygarde-C.

Fleur Cannon is Magearna's strongest special STAB special (the "special" isn't really necessary tbh) move, and it is all it Magearna needs to nail important wins Pokemon. Iron Defense boosts Magearna's defensive stats Defense, (AC) making it able to defeat physical attackers such as Mega Gyarados. (AP) especially if they are slower than it This is especially true with slower Pokemon such as Donphan, Golem, and Snorlax, (AC) which would otherwise can would easily OHKO or 2HKO it Magearna. (you did a good job fixing the wording here) Meanwhile, Calm Mind boosts Magearna's Special Defense and Special Attack, (AC) which allows it to muscle through specially bulky Pokemon such as Mega Venusaur, Tapu Fini, and Porygon-Z after a Z-Conversion. Both Iron Defense and Calm Mind are great together work well together, (AC) as they can help Magearna defeat a lot of offensive and bulky offensive Pokemon in the metagame (I know I'm not 1v1 QC, but it might be worth adding some examples here) (I agree). (keep period) Pain Split allows Magearna to chip away at the opponent foe while avoiding the OHKO in some case such as against Golem and Donphan after an Iron Defense. It also allows Magearna to resplenish replenish its health against Pokemon that are bulky enough to bring Magearna's health down, (AC) (the comma here isn't necessary) such as Mega Metagross, (RC) and Mega Metagross (again not QC but these are the same Pokemon, so add a different example in the place of the second Mega Metagross) (mhm). It also helps Magearna defeat stall (I checked with the rest of GP. This term is acceptable) Pokemon such as Chansey.

Fairium-(RH)Z (this was probably an accidental miss but yeah Z-Crystal names don't have the hyphen) boosts turns Fleur Cannon to into a powerful Twinkle Tackle, (AC) which allows it to nail fire off (yeah "nail" is better in the context of hitting a Pokemon hard) a powerful attack without the Special Attack drop. 212 Speed EVs allow Magearna to outspeed Donphan, while the HP EVs and the a Bold nature allows Magearna to live survive a Tectonic Rage plus followed by Earthquake from Golem and Donphan after an Iron Defense boost. The rest is dumped in into Special Attack, (AC) allowing Magearna to deal a higher amount of more damage. (what are the 24 SpD EVs for?) (yes this should be touched upon, preferably right before the last sentence since author says "the rest")

You should Use Magearna to defeat bulky offensive Pokemon that does do (subject-verb agreement is relatively easy but still important so good job) not carry super effective moves that can OHKO it, (AC) such as Mega Mawile, Snorlax, and most Sturdy users, (AC) such as (repetition) including (or you can remove that comma and say "like") Golem, Donphan, and Crustle. However, (AC) avoid sending Magearna out against faster Fire- and Ground-type Pokemon such as Charizard, Excadrill, and Landorus,(RC) and more ("such as" implies that there are more examples). How to use The correct way to use Magearna depends on the opponent foe; (remove comma and add semicolon) per for example, (AC) if Magearna is up against a Donphan, Golem, Crustle, or Sawk, it must first use Iron Defense, Pain Split, (AC) and then Twinkle Tackle in that order. (RC and AP) In which this case, (AC) you Magearna must use Iron Defense, (RC) and then use Pain Split to break Multiscale and heal off the damage; (AS) and then, Magearna must use Twinkle Tackle to OHKO Dragonite and win the matchup. Magearna's main drawback is that Ground- and Fire-type Pokemon such as Zygarde-C, Garchomp,(AC) (always a comma before the "and" with a list of three or more things) and Charizard can easily defeat it, (AC) which means that bulky Water-type Pokemon such as like (repetition) Primarina and Mega Gyarados are generally appreciated teammates. Furthermore, (AC) some Steel-types Pokemon such as Metal Sound Aegislash and Magnezone give Magearna trouble, (AC) especially if they use stat-(AH)lowering moves (this is a compound adjective, meaning two adjectives are being joined together to describe a noun. If this compound adjective is before the noun (like it is here), then there should be a hyphen between them).(period) Some Examples include would be Metal Sound Aegislash and Magnezone, (AC) (more concise) making Mega Charizard X a great partner for Magearna.

Fairium(space)Z turns Fleur Cannon into a powerful Twinkle Tackle, which allows it to fire off a powerful attack without the Special Attack drop. 212 Speed EVs allow Magearna to outspeed Donphan, while the HP EVs and a Bold nature allow Magearna to survive a Tectonic Rage followed by Earthquake from Golem and Donphan after an Iron Defense boost. 48 SpD allows Special Defense EV's Magearna to live take Choice Specs Naganadel's Fire Blast.

Usage Tips

Use Magearna to defeat bulky offensive Pokemon that do not carry super effective moves that can OHKO it, such as Mega Mawile, Snorlax, and most Sturdy users, including Golem, Donphan, and Crustle. However, avoid sending Magearna out against faster Fire- and Ground-type Pokemon such as Charizard, Excadrill, and Landorus. The correct way to use Magearna depends on the foe; for example, if Magearna is up against a Donphan, Golem, Crustle, or Sawk, it must use Iron Defense, Pain Split, and then Twinkle Tackle, (AC) in that order. This move sequence allows Magearna to tank at least two hits and recover its health in order to survive another hit. Simultaneously, Magearna (Pain Split?) breaks Sturdy, which allows it to finish off the foe with Twinkle Tackle. Additionally, Magerana Magearna should only use Calm Mind against Pokemon that are either specially offensive or defensive such as Mega Venusaur and Porygon-Z.

Team Options
========

Magearna's main drawback is that Ground- and Fire-type Pokemon such as Zygarde-C, Garchomp, and Charizard can easily defeat it, which means that bulky Water-type Pokemon like Primarina and Mega Gyarados are generally appreciated teammates. In addition, some stall tactics such as Substitute + Leech Seed from Jumpluff and PP stalling from Deoxys-S defeat Magearna, so having Pokemon that beat them such as Hoopa-U and Buginium(space)Z Crustle with Rock Blast is a good option. Furthermore, some Steel-types such as Metal Sound Aegislash and Magnezone give Magearna trouble, especially if they use stat-lowering moves, making Mega Charizard X a great partner for Magearna.

Other Options
=============

A Choice Specs set with Fleur Cannon / Flash Cannon / Energy Ball / Hidden Power Fire gives Magearna a better matchup against some Pokemon the given set doesn't beat or rarely beats,(AC) such as Genesect, Mega Scizor, and Mega Swampert, but Magearna then misses out on beating a lot of threats such as Golem and Donphan. Magearna can also utilize two other sets to lure in and beat Ground-types; the first is an Air Balloon set with an EV spread of 232 HP / 240 SpA / 26 SpD and a Modest nature, while the second is a Shuca Berry set with an EV spread of 100 HP / 132 Sef Def / 60 SpA / 216 and a Modest nature. The Air Balloon set's EVs allow Magearna to hit harder and secure more OHKOs than the Shuca Berry set, such as against Gyarados and Naganadel with Thunderbolt and Naganadel with Fleur Cannon, respectively, but this set mandates the use of Magnet Rise. On the other hand, the Shuca Berry set's defensive investment lets Magearna (tank?) hits, and the set doesn't require Magearna to run Magnet Rise, but it doesn't hit as hard. Ice Beam is mandatory on both sets.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Faster Ground- and Fire-type Pokemon**: Faster Ground- and Fire-type Pokemon such as Charizard, Heatran, and Zygarde-C can easily OHKO Magearna with a STAB move before it can set up Iron Defense or Calm Mind.

**Steel-type Pokemon with Stat-lowering Moves**: Some Steel-type Pokemon such as Magnezone and Aegislash resists Magearna's attacks and can utilize Metal Sound to drop Magearna's Special Defense and OHKO it with <....>.
