[OVERVIEW]
Magneton has a niche in the 1v1 metagame over its evolved counterpart Magnezone due to its ability to outspeed Adamant variants of Mega Gyarados at maximum Speed, which is one of the best Pokemon in the tier and does not utilize a Jolly nature in high levels of play the majority of the time. It retains the fantastic Electric / Steel typing that gives it a large number of resistances. Due to its ability Sturdy, it is able to survive any hit from full HP, allowing it to fire off a powerful Gigavolt Havoc that beats Pokemon such as Mega Charizard Y, Kartana, Porygon-Z, and Crustle. Magneton can also utilize its Z-Move in combination with Metal Sound in order to KO bulkier threats such as Tapu Lele, Magearna, and bulky Meloetta and has access to Electroweb in order to outspeed Pokemon such as Mega Gardevoir and Mew. Magneton also serves as a viable answer to the plethora of Water-types that are viable in the 1v1 metagame such as Manaphy, Primarina, and Tapu Fini, utilizing Gigavolt Havoc to KO them. However, despite the fact that Magneton is able to tank almost any single hit and fire off a powerful attack in return, it has trouble versus Pokemon that are able to KO it before it is able to do much to them, such as bulky variants of Mega Metagross, Dragonite, and Mega Charizard X and Ground-types that are simply immune to its moves such as Landorus-T, Donphan, Golem, Excadrill, and Zygarde. Unlike its evolved counterpart, Magnezone, it is unable to learn Mirror Coat, which is the reason why it has trouble versus Pokemon such as Naganadel and Choice Scarf variants of Tapu Lele. It also has lower Special Attack than Magnezone, which prevents it from getting an OHKO on Landorus-T.

Moves
========
Zap Cannon is used specifically to get the highest Base Power Gigavolt Havoc possible, which allows Magneton to score KOs on Pokemon such as Adamant Mega Gyarados, Mega Charizard Y, Porygon-Z Kartana, and Mega Slowbro. However, Zap Cannon can also be used for its guaranteed paralysis in many otherwise unwinnable matchups such as offensive Mega Charizard X, Volcarona, Naganadel, and bulky Victini. Metal Sound is essential to beating slow bulky offense and stall Pokemon such as Magearna, Meloetta, and Tapu Lele and slow variants of Mega Venusaur. Electroweb allows Magneton to beat faster Pokemon such as Tapu Lele. Protect serves as a way of retaining full health against Fake Out users such as Mega Lopunny and Mega Medicham. This allows Magneton to tank any of their attacks with its ability, Sturdy, and KO with Gigavolt Havoc in return. Protect can also be used in a prediction against Aegislash, depending on whether it attacks or not. Hidden Power Ground allows Magneton to beat its more common evolved counterpart, Magnezone.
Set Details
========
Maximum Speed investment with a Timid nature allows Magneton to outspeed Pokemon under base 70 Speed, as well as Adamant variants of Mega Gyarados. Maximum Special Attack investment allows Magneton to hit as hard as possible with its Z-Move, Gigavolt Havoc. The rest is put into HP in order to increase Magneton's overall bulk. Sturdy helps Magneton survive almost any hit from full HP.
Usage Tips
========
Magneton's Gigavolt Havoc should be reserved for situations in which it can KO the foe, as regular Zap Cannon is unreliable, with its 50% accuracy, and will not grant Magneton consistent wins. Gigavolt Havoc should be used against foes such as Primarina, Slowbro, and Tapu Fini, as they will be unable to tank the hit. There are two courses of action that should be taken if the foe can tank the Z-Move. If Magneton is faster than the opposing Pokemon, start using Metal Sound If Magneton is slower, use Electroweb to bring down their speed. Being faster Magneton to react more easily to the foe boosting their Special Defense, recovering, or using an attack. Against Substitute users such as Torrent Greninja and Mega Pinsir, use Electroweb in order to break their Substitute, as it is more reliable than Zap Cannon. Utilizing Metal Sound allows Magneton to take out Pokemon such as bulky variants of Meloetta and Magearna with a stronger Gigavolt Havoc. Against Fake Out users that do not carry Substitute such as non-Substitute Mega Lopunny, Mega Medicham, and Mega Blastoise, use Protect to prevent them from breaking Sturdy. Use Gigavolt Havoc on the next turn to KO them. Against an opposing Aegislash, it's best to use Protect if you predict an attack turn one, allowing you to use Gigavolt Havoc if you predict them to attack again. If you predict King's Shield, use Metal Sound followed by Gigavolt Havoc. Use the combination of Electroweb and Hidden Power Ground to beat opposing Magnezone and Magneton that do not carry Hidden Power Ground. If they do, the matchup becomes a Speed tie. In the case of losing matchups such as Choice Scarf Sawk and Mega Charizard X, use Zap Cannon and hope for a hit. If it does hit, use Gigavolt Havoc immediately after, followed by the most accurate moves in your moveset, as the chance of full paralysis can help win this matchup.
Team Options
========
Magneton should be used in conjunction with Pokemon like Greninja, bulky Tapu Lele, defensive Mega Swampert, Occa Berry Whimsicott, and defensive Mega Gyarados that can beat the multitude of viable Ground- and Dragon-types such as Landorus-T, Donphan, Golem, Garchomp, Dragonite, and Mega Charizard X that beat Magneton. Magneton also supports them with good matchups versus offensive threats such as Mega Charizard Y, Magearna, Tapu Lele, Primarina, Porygon-Z, and Tapu Fini. Magneton can work well in a Dragon / Steel / Fairy core, appreciating the support from Pokemon like Dragonite, Kommo-o, and Magearna to take out Pokemon such as Golem and Donphan, while Magneton helps beat the Pokemon mentioned earlier. Pair Magneton with answers to Jumpluff and Smeargle such as Mega Charizard X, Mega Lopunny, and Zeraora.

Checks and Counters
===================
**Pokemon with Electric-type Immunities**: Pokemon that are immune to Gigavolt Havoc wall Magneton, and the majority of its coverage options are not enough to take on such threats. Those threats include Donphan, Golem, Landorus-T, Zygarde, Garchomp, Mega Swampert, Excadrill, Zeraora, Thundurus-T, and Alolan Marowak.
**Mold Breaker Users**: Pokemon such as the rarely seen Jolly Earthquake Mega Gyarados, Haxorus, Hawlucha, and Choice Scarf Rampardos can all ignore Magneton's Sturdy and OHKO it with strong super effective moves before Magneton even has a chance to attack.
**Fast or Offensive Dragon- and Grass-type Pokemon**: Offensive Pokemon that resist Magneton's Gigavolt Havoc such as Mega Charizard X, Kommo-o, and Tapu Bulu can 2HKO Magneton with their coverage moves.
**Specially Defensive Offensive Pokemon**: Pokemon that can naturally survive a Gigavolt Havoc and hit Magneton super effectively such as specially defensive variants of Mega Metagross, Mega Tyranitar, and Hoopa-U beat it.
**Faster Sturdy or Bulky Pokemon with Speed Control**: Sturdy Pokemon such as Carracosta and Sawk have options to beat Magneton. Carracosta has Aqua Jet to defeat Magneton after its Sturdy is no longer in effect. Sawk is able to use options such as Rock Tomb and Choice Scarf to keep its Speed advantage versus Magneton and 2HKO it. Dragonite, the sole user of Multiscale, is able to tank any attack from Magneton and 2HKO it with the combination of Earthquake and Extreme Speed.
