[OVERVIEW]

  • Magneton has a niche as a Steel-type trapper capable of reliably eliminating important Steel-types like Scizor, Klefki, and Empoleon, which makes it a great partner for Pokemon such as Latias and Mega Beedrill.
  • Electric / Steel is a nice typing both offensively and defensively, giving it resistances to common types like Steel, Psychic, and Dragon; said resistances partially make up for its mediocre bulk.
  • However, Magneton is extremely slow, making Choice Specs sets outsped by most of the tier, while Choice Scarf sets are rather lacking in power.
  • Magneton is a poor choice as a team's sole Steel-type due to its lack of overall defensive utility when compared to other options such as Scizor, Cobalion, and Klefki, making it hard to fit on a team.

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

  • Hidden Power Fire is used to OHKO Scizor and deal good damage to other threats like Mega Steelix and Rotom-C.

Set Details
========

  • Choice Specs helps Magneton reliably OHKO Scizor and gives it a general power increase.

Usage Tips
========

  • Don't switch Magneton directly into threats like Scizor and Empoleon, because they can heavily damage it with a coverage or STAB move and, in Scizor's case, can just U-turn out. Therefore, it's best to bring Magneton on a double switch, Eject Button, or by U-turn of your own. However, Magneton's presence on the field makes Steel-types a lot more cautious of switching in, so be aware of this when attempting a double switch.
  • Magneton also shouldn't be switched directly into any neutral attacks, as its bulk is too mediocre to avoid the 2HKO from most of the tier. Even resisted attacks like Draco Meteor from Latias and Hydreigon will be doing significant damage
