Magnezone @ Air Balloon
Ability: Magnet Pull
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Magnet Rise
- Substitute
- Thunderbolt
- Hidden Power [Fire]
Since Equilibra's release into the metagame, this Magnezone set has been gaining traction. Thanks to the combination of Air Balloon, Magnet Rise, and Substitute, this Magnezone set can safely trap Equilibra, barring the uncommon Whirlwind sets. It's weird to see Air Balloon and Magnet Rise on the same set, but Magnezone requires an Air Balloon to switch into Equilibra safely. Since Air Balloon is broken through the Substitute, Magnet Rise is mandatory because Magnezone can only 4HKO Equilibra with Hidden Power Fire at best, meaning that it wouldn't get enough turns without Magnet Rise. This Magnezone set pairs particularly well with Pokemon such as Mega Alakazam, Mega Diancie, and Garchomp, to which many teams are using Equilibra as their main answer. Although this set is specialized to beat Equilibra, it can still trap other Steel-types like Ferrothorn and Celesteela, which these Pokemon also appreciate.
