THE TEAM
Gyarados @ Gyaradosite
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Earthquake
- Waterfall
- Substitute
Okokokok I already know all you guys are gonna be like "WHY DO YOU HAVE SUBSTITUTE" but hear me out. I find Substitute to be an incredibly helpful move on Gyarados. First off it's good for scouting and seeing what attacks the opponent will have. Additionally since Sub isn't used much on M-Gyara many people will try to cripple it with a burn or whittle it down with Toxic, so you can set up a Sub and potentially set up. It's always really handy to have a sub up while sweeping because otherwise priority will stop you cold, such as Talonflame's Brave Bird, Conkeldurr's Mach Punch, and Thundurus' Prankster Thunder Wave. Also, if your opponent wants to try and squander your sub with some Intimidate Pokemon, Sub blocks that of course. Lastly, Substitute is great for setting up on bulky Water types! You're a madman if you attempt to Dragon Dance on a Vaporeon, knowing that the100% 30% burn chance with Scald is coming. But with Sub you can easily set up on Scald users.
Okay so I just wrote an essay about why I use Substitute but luckily for you guys the rest is very straight forward. Dragon Dance, EQ, Waterfall, all common moves for Gyarados. Jolly nature as opposed to Adamant because with Jolly I will outspeed Mega Manectric at +1.

Gothitelle @ Choice Specs
Ability: Shadow Tag
EVs: 32 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpA / 220 Spe
Modest Nature
- Trick
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Psychic
- Thunderbolt
It's always such a nice feeling to be able to use your favorite Pokemon competitively. Though currently in UU, Gothitelle is still a huge threat in OU. Gothitelle has two purposes on this team - cripping bulky Pokemon, such as Chansey, with Trick and taking out threats to Gyarados to help it sweep. HP Fire lets me destroy the likes of Ferrothorn and Scizor. I run 220 speed EVs to outpace bulky Landorus-T, Rotom-W, Mega Venusaur, and much more. The rest is dumped into SpAtk and HP.
Landorus-Therian (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Atk / 252 Def
Impish Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge
- Knock Off
Ferrothorn @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 228 HP / 36 Atk / 244 SpD
Relaxed Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Spikes
- Leech Seed
- Power Whip
- Gyro Ball
Two bulky-ass Mons to spam hazards and help Gyarados sweep, not much else to say here. Knock Off is just a random move thrown onto Landorus-T because it's the best move in the game, right? Realistically it's a nice move and can help smack the Lati twins that like to switch in on EQs and threaten me out with Draco Meteors or Defog. Ferrothorn with Rocky Helmet and Iron Barbs punishes anything that tries to Rapid Spin.
UPDATE- Gave Ferrothorn 36 Atk EVs so its Gyro Ball would always break the Sub of 252 HP 0 Speed Mega Mawile
Starmie @ Splash Plate
Ability: Analytic
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Rapid Spin
- Scald
- Psychic
- Ice Beam
Originally I just threw Starmie in on the team because I needed a special attacker that could get rid of hazards, but I was surprised by how much work Starmie put in. Most of the work it does comes from Analytic, where if the opponent switches (or if the opponent happens to be faster than Starmie), your attacks do 1.3x more damage. That's as much as a damn Life Orb boosted attack. With Splash Plate I still have some strength but I don't lose the HP with Life Orb, which is important. Additionally there have been times when I have been able to bluff a Specs. One time a Venusaur switched into Starmie's Scald and took about 35%. The opponent must've figured that I was Specs and Mega Evolved, but I just killed it with Psychic the next turn. Ice Beam's just a nice move to have with Dragons n' such.
Thundurus (M) @ Power Herb
Ability: Defiant
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpA / 252 Spe
Hasty Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Superpower
- Fly
- Wild Charge
Now this set seems all sorts of messed up, but hear me out. Essentially this is a Thundurus that can switch into Defogs, get the +2 Attack, and start spamming powerful physical attacks. But there's a catch - I have Tbolt on there seemingly randomly. Why is this? Early game when using Thundurus I will only be using Thunderbolt, maybe Superpower too if I feel the need to, to fool the opponent into thinking I'm just some standard specially attacking Thundurus. This lets them Defog a lot more freely without fearing anything, and then WHAM they have to deal with a +2 Thundurus. Fly Power Herb may sound dumb but it helps immensely with a lot of threats, like Mega Venusaur. I was considering putting on Knock Off for Latios and Latias, but Fly destroys them anyways (+2 252 Atk Thundurus Fly vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Latios: 324-382 (107.2 - 126.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO).
(cheesy team with back turned here)
