XY OU MEGA MAWILE's LAST DANCE?! (Peaked Top #20 on Pokemon Showdown!)

mega_mawile_by_ouroporos-d6ueu7j.png
Hey Guys!

My name is uCan'tSeeMe, a smogon player, who stays in the high 1800s most of the time.
This is my first own RMT in this section, but I am a huge fan of the Rate-My-Team forum itself.
The team i present you guys today is built around Mega Mawile, my favorite Mega-Evolution, and it performed pretty well on the ladder, aswell as in many tournaments.
Due to the fact, that Mawile is probably about to get banned soon, I want to give you the chance to give this team a try before.
I'm sorry if there are mistakes with my English, it's not my first language, but I think you guys will understand that :]
So let's get right into it:

The Star Of The Show - Mega Mawile
mawile-mega.jpg

"Hmmmm…I love to play with my Opponents!"

Alice (Mawile-Mega) @ Mawilite
Ability: Huge Power
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 120 HP / 252 Atk / 136 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Play Rough
- Swords Dance
- Sucker Punch
- Fire Fang

  • As already mentioned, I wanted to build my Team around this Powerhouse. I always hated facing stall, so i was totally fine with having one of the best Stallbreakers in the game, combined with my favorite Pokemon in the game. Play Rough should be self-explanatory, Mawile's strongest STAB move deals massive damage to everything that doesn't resist it, even physical walls like Gliscor. I decided to play the SD-Set, as it deals heavy damage to important threats like Skarmory (+2 Fire Fang is a OHKO) or Ferrothorn, and also gives you the opportunity to set up a SD, which is often followed by a Late-game-Mawile-Sucker-Punch-Sweep. Mawile isn't just a Wall- and Stallbreaker, it is also a great Setup-Sweeper, especially late-game. Sucker Punch is Mawile's only Priority move, which is super important, due to the lack of Speed Mawile has to suffer.
  • 252+ Atk allows Mawile to do the biggest possible damage to its opponents.168 Speed let you outspeed uninvested Skarmory, Azumarill and Clefable, aswell as most other Mega Mawiles. The last 120 Ev's go into HP, allowing Mawile to live a -1 Mega Garchomp Earthqake.

Damage Calcs: :v4:
+2 252+ Atk Huge Power Mega Mawile Fire Fang vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Skarmory: 304-358 (91 - 107.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock

252+ Atk Huge Power Mega Mawile Fire Fang vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Ferrothorn: 320-380 (90.9 - 107.9%) -- 81.3% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock

252+ Atk Huge Power Mega Mawile Play Rough vs. 252 HP / 184+ Def Gliscor: 180-213 (50.8 - 60.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Poison Heal

-1 252 Atk Mega Garchomp Earthquake vs. 120 HP / 0 Def Mega Mawile: 218-260 (80.4 - 95.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Ferrothorn

Sugimori_598.png
"Hmmmm…Touch me..It won't hurt!"

EdenHazard (Ferrothorn) @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 168 Def / 88 SpD
Relaxed Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Leech Seed
- Gyro Ball
- Stealth Rock
- Spikes

  • This thing is the hazard setter of the team. It has access to both, Spikes and Stealth Rocks, and punishes any physical attacker with massive Iron Barbs + Rocky Helmet damage. A great effect of this is to stop any Volt-Turn action, by just switching in on U-Turns and dealing massive damage. If your find the right moment, use it and start stacking Spikes, any Pokemon, not levitating or flying, will regret switching in at any point of the game. For my next move i choose Leech Seed, as it deals even more residual damage to your opponents. I chose Gyro Ball as my only offensive move as it deals a ton of damage to fast sweepers like Latios, trying to Defog against my Ferrothorn. If I don't have anymore Talonflame Checks I will sack my Ferrothorn to it, Recoil + Iron Barbs + Rocky Helmet Damage is sometimes even enough to take out a weakened Talonflame.
  • 252 HP give Ferrothorn a maximum of mixed bulk. 88 SpDef EVs let Ferrothorn easily take two Life Orb Greninja Ice Beams, aswell as 2 Mega Venusaur HP Fires most of the time. 168+ Def helps Ferrothorn to eat up Life Orb Excadrills Earthquakes, or to just check Azumarill, even if it has set up a Belly Drum.
Damage Calcs: :v4:
4 SpA Mega Venusaur Hidden Power Fire vs. 252 HP / 88 SpD Ferrothorn: 168-200 (47.7 - 56.8%) -- 33.2% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

252 SpA Life Orb Protean Greninja Ice Beam vs. 252 HP / 88 SpD Ferrothorn: 133-157 (37.7 - 44.6%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery

+6 252+ Atk Huge Power Azumarill Waterfall vs. 252 HP / 168+ Def Ferrothorn: 200-236 (56.8 - 67%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

252+ Atk Life Orb Excadrill Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 168+ Def Ferrothorn: 152-179 (43.1 - 50.8%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery

4 Atk Ferrothorn Gyro Ball (150 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Mega Medicham: 177-208 (67.8 - 79.6%) -- 87.5% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock and 3 layers of Spikes

Latios

Sugimori_381.png
Go Scizor or Ferrothorn! Switch in my Psyshock!"

StarNoRaptor (Latios) @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Psyshock
- Draco Meteor
- Roost
- Hidden Power [Fire]

  • Latios is an amazing Pokemon. There isn't much that appreciates a Draco Meteor by a Latios, Special Walls get bopped by Psyshocks. Steel Types will regret switching in the moment they see me having HP Fire. It is one of the most reliable Keldeo switch-ins, and has access to an excellent Recovery Move in Roost/Recover. It also checks Mega Venusaur, a huge threat to this team. Remember to keep Latios around if you see a Mega Venusaur on the opponents team! It also checks opposing Landorus pretty well, sometimes even Thundurus or, defensive Landorus-T. Another important point is that it can revenge a +6 Azumarill with Psyshock if it has already taken some chip damage, as it can tank a +6 Aqua Jet rather well.
  • The Spread is very simple, but nevertheless very effective. Hit as fast and as hard as possible. Sounds easy. Is pretty easy. Base 130 spAtk, Base Power 150 STAB Draco Meteor hurts. Definitely. Pretty hard.
Damage Calcs: :v4:
252 SpA Life Orb Latios Hidden Power Fire vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Ferrothorn: 302-359 (85.7 - 101.9%) -- 50% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock

252 SpA Life Orb Latios Draco Meteor vs. 4 HP / 0 SpD Landorus: 333-394 (104 - 123.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252 SpA Life Orb Latios Psyshock vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Azumarill: 207-243 (51.2 - 60.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

+6 252+ Atk Huge Power Azumarill Aqua Jet vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Latios: 191-225 (63.2 - 74.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252 SpA Life Orb Latios Psyshock vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Eviolite Chansey: 226-266 (32.1 - 37.7%) -- 93.8% chance to 3HKO

Landorus-T

Sugimori_645a.png

"Go Greninja, you are faster..Go for your Ice Beam…"

Skywalker (Landorus-Therian) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 Atk / 12 Def / 244 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Knock Off / Explosion
- Earthquake
- U-turn
- Stone Edge

  • Luke Skywalkwer himself. This thing is a beast. 145 Base Attack is nothing to lough about and a scarf U-Turn always brings nice Switch-Initiative. Earthquake is the STAB move and deals a ton of damage to everything that does not resist. Stone Edge for EdgeQuake Coverage, and to revenge big threats like Mea Pinsir or Talonflame. Explosion can be chosen over Knock Off, as Landorus can deal a crazy amount of damage to your Opponent, before he kills himself. Exspecially bulky Pokemon like Mega Venusaur can be weakened by a Explosion pretty well.
  • 427 Attack on Level 100 is the biggest Attack Stat Landorus-T can reach. You can afford to run a Adamant Nature, because your Speed is getting increased by your Choice Scarf. Scarfed Landorus-T outspeeds the whole non-scarfed metagame and deals Heavy damage with its gigantic Attack Stat.
Damage Calcs: :v4:
252+ Atk Landorus-T U-turn vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Greninja: 252-298 (88.1 - 104.1%) -- 31.3% chance to OHKO

252+ Atk Landorus-T Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Mega Mawile: 320-380 (105.2 - 125%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252 SpA Life Orb Latios Psyshock vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Azumarill: 207-243 (51.2 - 60.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

-1 252+ Atk Choice Band Talonflame Brave Bird vs. 0 HP / 12 Def Landorus-T: 169-199 (52.9 - 62.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock

252+ Atk Landorus-T Knock Off vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Latias: 276-326 (91.3 - 107.9%) -- 50% chance to OHKO

Azumarill

Sugimori_184.png

"What can I even do? Nobody takes me seriously.."

Azumarill @ Assault Vest
Ability: Huge Power
EVs: 188 HP / 252 Atk / 32 SpD / 36 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Play Rough
- Aqua Jet
- Waterfall
- Knock Off

  • This cute little thing…so powerful. I don't get it. Assault Vest Azumarill. The most common set these days. One of the best greninja checks in the game, only thing you really have to be aware of is HP Grass. If he has Fire instead, you are fine, it is is Grass, Ferrothorn checks it even better. Take one Life Orb Thundurus T-Bolt real quick, and kill it with the combination of Waterfall and Aqua Jet. Knock Off for getting rid of any Leftovers on common Walls like Ferrothorn. Play Rough destroys Dragon Type pokemon such as Latias and/or Latios. Waterfall as a strong STAB hits Landorus pretty hard, while Aqua Jet is Azumarills important Priotity move.
  • The Spread seems to be a bit complicated, but only at a first glance. I run max Attack to do as much damage as I can with this little Water Bomb. 188 HP + 32 SpDef EVs + Assault Vest Move allow me to have a very decent special Bulk, while 36 Speed Evs let me speed-cripple other Azumarills, aswell as Mega Mawiles.
Damage Calcs: :v4:
252+ Atk Huge Power Azumarill Waterfall vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Thundurus: 213-252 (71 - 84%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252+ Atk Huge Power Azumarill Aqua Jet vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Thundurus: 108-127 (36 - 42.3%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

252 SpA Life Orb Protean Greninja Hidden Power Grass vs. 188 HP / 32 SpD Assault Vest Azumarill: 172-203 (44.3 - 52.3%) -- 10.9% chance to 2HKO

252 SpA Life Orb Thundurus Thunderbolt vs. 188 HP / 32 SpD Assault Vest Azumarill: 289-343 (74.4 - 88.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252+ Atk Choice Band Talonflame Brave Bird vs. 188 HP / 0 Def Azumarill: 283-334 (72.9 - 86%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Thundurus
Sugimori_642.png

"I'm waaaaaay too OP and I know it myself…LOL"

Thundurus (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 56 Atk / 200 SpA / 252 Spe
Hasty Nature
- Thunder Wave
- Thunderbolt
- Superpower
- Hidden Power [Ice]

  • This thing is ridiculous. Sometimes I feel bad for using this guy, because he is so damn good. You can stop any Set-Up-Mon in the game with your Prankster Will-O-Wisp, and if that wouldn't be enough you are one of the fastest Mons in the Metagame. Thunder Wave is the move that makes this Pokemon to a broken Pokemon. What is a paralyzed Mega Zard X? Or a paralyzed Mega Pinsir? Right. Nothing. Superpower for annoying Chanseys, Blisseys or Tyranitars. Hidden Power Ice for Gliscor, Landorus, Landorus-T and other Ground or Dragon Types. Thundurus is also very helpful in checking Bird Spam, especially with Mega Pinsir and Talonflame. It outspends even Adamant 252 Speed Talonflame with is huge, cause its Thunderbolt will go before the Talonflame can Flare Blitz Thundurus.
  • The Spread is optimized for Mixed Thundurus with Superpower, the reason for a Naive Nature. I prefer using Naive over Hasty as Thundurs will tank Mega Pinsir's Return aswell as Talonflames Brave Bird or Flare Blitz a bit better. Max Speed for outspeeding a lot of important things in the Metagame.
Damage Calcs: :v4:
56 Atk Life Orb Thundurus Superpower vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Eviolite Chansey: 354-416 (50.2 - 59%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252 SpA Life Orb Thundurus Hidden Power Ice vs. 4 HP / 0 SpD Landorus: 400-473 (125 - 147.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252 SpA Life Orb Thundurus Hidden Power Ice vs. 4 HP / 0 SpD Latias: 133-159 (44 - 52.6%) -- 16.8% chance to 2HKO

252 Atk Aerilate Mega Pinsir Return vs. 4 HP / 0- Def Thundurus: 185-218 (61.6 - 72.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252+ Atk Choice Band Talonflame Brave Bird vs. 4 HP / 0- Def Thundurus: 175-207 (58.3 - 69%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Thats it for now. This team is one of my newer teams so I think there could be some things I might not have considered yet. I'd really appreciate if you guys out there would leave a Rate for me, cause I wanna improve at Teambuilding aswell as battling all the time, and you are a great help! :] Thank you for visiting this RMT, and maybe see you soon with another RMT, probably without Mawile then. :[

I'm going to add some replays soon!

Yo uCan'tSeeMe cool team! It's really solid so I won't suggest too many changes.

Ferrothorn really loves having Protect. It lets it get more Leech Seed recovery and allows it to scout. I would replace Spikes with Protect since Spikes are easy to defog/spin away, and there's a lot of flying/levitating mons in this meta. Also, while this is just preference, I'd rather run Leftovers on Ferrothorn because the increased longevity is really nice, though this is really just an optional change.

Also your thundy is a Hasty Nature, I'd fix it to naive imo

One thing I do a lot with life orb mons is check if their HP ends with 1. If it does, I run 29 HP IVs which allows me to take less LO Recoil at the cost of only two hp. Latios falls into this category, and you never know when that can help :]
Also since Latios is running HP Fire you can drop 8 speed evs and the 4 hp evs and dump em into def/spdef. This lets you outspeed keldeo/terrakion/other 108s since HP Fire means you only speed tie with other HP Fire Lati@s. Not a major change but you never know

That's all. This team looks really solid. Hope I helped :]

Hey, this is a pretty standard offensive team so I don't have much to suggest. First off, I agree with replacing Spikes with Protect on Ferrothorn as it not only allows you to gain additional Leftovers recovery but also allows you to scout the moves of Pokemon such as Keldeo, meaning you don't have to switch Latios into an Icy Wind for example. Naive on Thundurus is also better than Hasty as the main attacks you'll be taking are Brave Bird from Talonflame and Return/Quick Attack from Mega Pinsir. Secondly, I would suggest replacing Knock Off on Azumarill with Superpower as Ferrothorn looks really annoying for your team and Superpower does a lot more damage to it than Knock Off. Knock Off also isn't really needed as Mawile takes advantage of Pokemon such as Amoonguss easily while Latios handles Rotom-W. The last definite change I would suggest is a Jolly nature on Landorus-T as Charizard X gets free setup on Ferrothorn and proceeds to OHKO your whole team with only a little bit of extra damage. While Thundurus can stop it, that option won't always be available and most of the time requires you to sacrifice a Pokemon first. Jolly allows you to beat Charizard with one more member of your team, taking a lot of pressure off of Thundurus. Optional changes you can consider are replacing Hidden Power Ice on Thundurus with Hidden Power Flying if you find Mega Venusaur to be too annoying as it has the potential to mess up 4 members of your team otherwise. Another thing you can try out is replacing a move on Latios, probably Psyshock but Hidden Power [Fire] also sort of works, for Defog as nothing bar Ferrothorn has recovery on your team so you're very susceptible to getting worn down by Stealth Rock eventually. Also, your Mawile import says it has 136 Speed while the in-depth information talks about 168 so you might want to clarify which of the two you run.

Thank you all for your suggestions!
I will change the Ferrothorn Set to Leech Seed, Protect, Stealth Rocks and Gyro Ball. Thanks @The Bravest Bird for pointing this out!
Also, I think I screwed up with the Thundurus Set, in the importable version it already has a Naive Nature. But you are right of course,
his main task is to take on Birdspam, which is physical most of the time, so a Naive Nature (-SpDef + Spe) is definitely my better choice!
@Unbirthday: Thanks for your suggestions, too! I will change Knock Off to Superpower on Azumarill, as Ferrothorn is a huge threat to this team.
Coming to the Mawile Spread, I think 136 is what I want to run on my Mawile. Sorry for these little mistakes everywhere in my RMT, you probably can tell this is my first one. Considering running Defog on Latios..I'm not sure about that. I have only 1 weakness to Rocks in Thundurus, and a few resistences. I will try running Defog and see how it goes.
You suggested running a Jolly Nature on Landorus and I completely agree with your thought-process there. Will definitely change that! Last but not least, I will try running HP Flying instead, and see how much Venusaur is a threat to my team!

Thanks for all suggestions!

I just have a simple suggestion. Try HP ice on landorus so that way you bait in other landorus/gliscor and weaken it so that mawile can be more effective.

Hey Davon!

Just a simple suggestion, but thank you nevertheless! This is actually a really good idea, cause Landorus or Gliscor loves to come in on my Landorus all the time. Will definitely try that and see how it goes!

There is a small mistake in the importable version. It doesn't carry Power-Up-Punch, but Swords Dance instead. Sorry for this mistake!
