Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High
will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust.”
Psalm 91:1-2

Intro

After hearing that the national dex tier had just banned tera, I was excited to give it a try, since I was getting a little sick of gen9ou. I threw together some mons and the team just worked really well together. The team ended up looking similar to a strategy found in gen3ou called TSS (toxic spikes sandstorm), so I named it after that. I honestly didn't expect it to hit rank 1 since this is my first natdex team but here we are. Its really fun to use and I hope you enjoy.

The Team

:Sv/ferrothorn:
Ferrothorn @ Leftovers
Ability: Iron Barbs
Tera Type: Ghost
EVs: 252 HP / 40 Def / 216 SpD
Impish Nature
- Power Whip
- Leech Seed
- Spikes
- Knock Off

:Ferrothorn: is incredible and was a very easy include from this team's inception just because I liked it. Its the full package of spikes, iron barbs chip, defensive piece, and knock off. This perfectly enables the residual damage gameplan this team is going for. :Ferrothorn: is important for this team not just because of its spikes but its incredible defensive value at checking various threats, which are so many I can't name them all. Some notable ones its good against are :tapu-koko:, :scizor-mega:, and some :iron-valiant: sets which takes a lot of pressure of :landorus-therian: to check them. :ferrothorn: has great synergy with :alomomola: as it complements it perfectly defensively and can receive big wishes to keep it healthy throughout a game. The evs are mixed, I'm not sure what specific benchmarks they hit because I borrowed the ev's from another team, but they allow :ferrothorn: to handle both physical and special attackers well. There isn't too much else to say, :ferrothorn: is :ferrothorn: and is just good.

:Sv/landorus-therian:
Landorus-Therian (M) @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Intimidate
Tera Type: Water
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Impish Nature
- Earthquake
- U-turn
- Stealth Rock
- Defog

Fully physdef :landorus-therian: is a great stealth rocks setter, capable of safely pivoting out to the team's strong special attackers. I have both stealth rocks and defog here because I didn't feel like toxic or knock off was getting me much more value on this squad. In addition this decision of running both rocks and defog allows mega tyranitar some moveset flexibility that will be discussed later. Max physdef is great for handling the very scary sd :iron-valiant:, :kingambit:, :melmetal: and other dangerous physical attackers. :landorus-therian:'s hp is used as a resource on this team to take either physical or special attacks when needed. The item choice is rocky helmet to have another pokemon to punish u-turn and rack up residual damage.

:Sv/alomomola:
Alomomola @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Regenerator
Tera Type: Dragon
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Def / 252 SpD
Relaxed Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Flip Turn
- Wish
- Toxic
- Protect

:Alomomola: is the undisputed :gogoat: of this team and is easily the hard carry. :Alomomola: pivots in safely on practically the entire tier and is almost impossible to punish. The few things that can actually threaten :Alomomola: are easily stopped by the other pokemon on this team. Flip turn is the best move on the set, allowing riskless pivots into other pokemon like :gholdengo: :dragapult: :iron-valiant: and more to gain momentum. Wish is insane on :Alomomola:, as you can easily make almost riskless wish passes to your pokemon at low health and bring them back to full. :Alomomola: is also a dangerous win condition for the team, as it is very easy to set up situations where knocking it out becomes impossible, from there it will just toxic wish protect until the opponent loses. In short, :Alomomola: puts opponents in lose lose scenarios where you always gain the upper hand. I use :Alomomola: to pivot in on pokemon I suspect are choice locked as well as stuff it can toxic. The only pokemon :Alomomola: struggles against are mons with a type advantage or that have substitute like :Zamazenta: or :kyurem:, otherwise :Alomomola: wins or goes positive in practically every other interaction.

:Sv/Dragapult:
Dragapult @ Choice Specs
Ability: Infiltrator
Tera Type: Dragon
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Shadow Ball
- Draco Meteor
- Flamethrower
- U-turn
:dragapult: is this team's form of speed control and main wallbreaker. :Dragapult: is the fastest pokemon in ou which allows it to heavily threaten the entire tier with specs boosted attacks. It also serves important defensive utility as it is a temporary safe switchin to :Ogerpon-wellspring: lacking knock off and can check :charizard-mega-y: in a pinch. Infiltrator has great synergy with :alomomola: as flip turning on substitute pokemon such as :zamazenta: or :kyurem: enables a free choice specs attack. Pursuit is a concern, however if the opposing trapper is :kingambit: or :weavile: they are easy to play around. By creating situations where you can lock into flamethrower, you make their trap a 50-50 scenario instead of a guarantee. In addition, :dragapult: is very easy to wincon with since once something has taken sufficient chip from the passive damage going around, it can come in to claim safe kos. :Dragapult: serves a very active purpose in all stages of the game and should be used to break and cleanup.

:sv/Tapu-lele:
Tapu Lele @ Fightinium Z
Ability: Psychic Surge
Tera Type: Psychic
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Calm Mind
- Psyshock
- Moonblast
- Focus Blast

:tapu-lele: is part of this team's x-factor and the team's secondary wallbreaker. At a glance this team could easily be using choice scarf :tapu-lele:. But this is a bait, because the item is actually fightinium-z. By bluffing a choice scarf you can easily bait in the opponent's steel type and eliminate them with all out pummeling. This is a very effective bait and not a single person in my entire ladder run called out my set to be fightinium-z. By eliminating steel types, :Alomomola: gets a lot more threatening with toxic protect and can easily run away with the game. Other than baiting steel types, :tapu-lele: is a safe lead vs :samurott-hisui:, denying them from more than 1 layer of spikes. It is also very helpful against :zamazenta: and :kingambit:, :kingambit: in particular is notable because psychic terrain blocks its priority sucker punch and has won me many games. Calm mind + psyshock is used to help stallproof the team, destroying teams relying on :chansey: for their special wall.

:sv/Tyranitar-mega:
Tyranitar-Mega @ Tyranitarite
Ability: Sand Stream
Tera Type: Rock
EVs: 128 HP / 252 Atk / 128 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Stone Edge
- Knock Off
- Pursuit
- Low Kick

:tyranitar-mega: is used on this team because of its defensive utility and strong stab knock off. :tyranitar-mega: is the team's primary check to dangerous special attackers like :charizard-mega-y: and :volcarona: who could easily run away with the game if given free turns. It is also the team's only ghost resist, and hard punishes any choice locked ghost types like :dragapult: and :gholdengo:. in fact going :alomomola: on them to scout enables a riskless trap with flip turn if they try to hit you a second time. :tyranitar-mega: is also really helpful against the new :terapagos-terastal: because it breaks it's tera shell with sand, takes very little damage from its moves, and punishes its rapid spin by pursuit trapping it. On this team I prioritize going for knock off before pursuit because knock off's item removal will usually be more impactful long term. By doubling up stealth rocks and defog on :landorus-therian: I was able to fit a really good tech option in low kick. Low kick baits steel and dark types, in particular it heavily baits :kingambit: and opposing :tyranitar-mega:. With their pursuit user eliminated, :dragapult: usually will run away with the game. Low kick also helps with various other mons like :heatran: :ferrothorn: :melmetal: and :ting-lu:

Threats

:sv/charizard-mega-y:
:charizard-mega-y: is easily the biggest threat to this team, on the turn it mega evolves there is no truly safe switch to its attacks. However :alomomola: is able to live solar beam from full hp, so I always go it on the first turn against it. After this I try to go :tyranitar-mega: to pursuit trap it (note that I can't safely go :tyranitar-mega: immediately because otherwise :charizard-mega-y: would deactivate sand stream when it mega evolves, meaning I get cooked). The issue however is if :charizard-mega-y: runs focus blast it ohkos :tyranitar-mega:. In games where it has focus blast you need to use :dragapult: to try and get more kills than it before you lose. If stealth rocks are able to be kept up then this becomes way easier to beat, as its switchins will be limited.

:sv/iron-valiant:
Very scary mon to deal with especially when the set isn't revealed. Mixed life orb sets are particularly terrifying in electric terrain, as they outspeed and ko nearly the entire team. You need to keep :landorus-therian: and :alomomola: healthy to deal with these or you get run over. Calm mind sets are also scary if they carry a fighting move, you can only really beat this by using toxic on it with :alomomola:. Swords dance sets are the easiest to deal with, as they are easily stopped by :landorus-therian: at full hp.

:sv/scizor-mega:
:scizor-mega: can easily snowball out of control, as the only attack that can ohko it on this team is :dragapult:'s flamethrower, and that isn't exactly a reliable stop over a longer game. In addition it easily walls :landorus-therian: and uses it as setup fodder. The safest way to immediately stop it is to leech seed it with :ferrothorn: since close combat variants seem to be less common than knock off variants. Hazards are essential in this matchup and are really needed to pressure it to low health, where it might be possible to pick it off with a boosted all out pummeling from :tapu-lele:.

:sv/volcarona:
:volcarona: has an incredible matchup into this team and is very dangerous if it gets a free turn. :tyranitar-mega: is the only one that can safely put a stop to it since knock off does around ~80% and stone edge ohkos. However this plan will fail if :volcarona: is running bug buzz or if :tyranitar-mega: gets chipped too much. Careful play is required against this, fortunately it is easy to knock it with ferro and :alomomola: can toxic it in a pinch.

:sv/gholdengo:
Hard to remove, and its easy to lose to if :dragapult: goes down. :Dragapult: must be kept alive in order to beat this or you insta-lose to recover sets. :alomomola: can pivot on this to get :dragapult: in safely, but it will struggle to do so multiple times in a game.

Conclusion
I am really enjoying the current state of natdex ou, I had a lot of fun laddering with this team and it was fun to try out another tier. This team is very special to me now because it is the first time I have ever hit rank 1 on ladder before, so that's awesome. I will definitely be playing more of natdex ou in the future because the meta is awesome.

Thanks for reading my RMT! Have a great day and God Bless!
