Magic Guard (Roaring Moon) @ Life Orb
Ability: Magic Guard

Jolly Nature
- Knock Off
- Earthquake / Taunt
- U-turn
- Roost
[SET COMMENTS]
Magic Guard Roaring Moon is a fantastic pivot and item remover that benefits from its great offensive and defensive prowess alongside stellar longevity. Magic Guard in particular is notable as it allows Roaring Moon to augment its defensive profile by avoiding all entry hazard chip, which would otherwise hamper it. Knock Off is essential, removing items like Heavy-Duty Boots and Leftovers from targets like Corviknight, Zapdos, and Pecharunt to allow for much faster progress in conjunction with entry hazards and U-turn. Earthquake pressures Pokemon like Iron Hands, Heatran, and Iron Treads, while Taunt is much more effective on hazard stacking teams to prevent Defog from Corviknight and Mandibuzz while denying recovery. [didnt note dclaw because the move is kinda bad, doesnt really do much usually and eq/taunt/other niche move is 95% of the time just better imo] U-turn helps scout moves while further chipping answers to Roaring Moon like Corviknight, Iron Hands, and Great Tusk, while Roost gives it longevity that is especially appreciated in matchups where Pokemon like Hisuian Electrode, Sandy Shocks, and Iron Moth are present.
Magic Guard Roaring Moon fits on playstyles ranging from bulky offense to stall, and so has a wide array of strong partners. Entry hazard setters like Skarmory, Sandy Shocks, and Landorus-T pair incredibly with Roaring Moon, since these entry hazards allow Roaring Moon to pressure would-be counters like Great Tusk, Corviknight, and Iron Hands in conjunction with U-turn. Since Roaring Moon excels at making progress with U-turn, wallbreakers like Ceruledge and Deoxys-Speed as well as pivots like Sandy Shocks and Cinderace can capitalize on the opportunities provided. Steel-types like Corviknight and Gholdengo appreciate Roaring Moon's ability to absorb Fire-, Electric-, and Ghost-type moves for them, and in return can help patch up Roaring Moon's weakness to Fighting- and Fairy-type attacks. Likewise, Water-type RegenVest users such as Manaphy and Primarina make great partners as Roaring Moon can switch into Grass- and Electric-type attacks from the likes of Hisuian Electrode and Sandy Shocks, while they can answer or switch into threats like Chien-Pao, oppsing Primarina, and Will-O-Wisp Heatran. Roaring Moon fears Great Tusk as it can easily absorb its hits and is a common hazard clearer and Regenerator user, both of which are problems for it, so teammates that can switch into or punish Great Tusk like Corviknight, Zapdos, and Meowscarada are necessary. Roaring Moon also dislikes Knock Off despite resisting the move, since its Life Orb carries a lot of its damage output, so Knock Off absorbers like Corviknight, Pecharunt, and Great Tusk are appreciated. Lastly, faster threats like Chien-Pao and Deoxys-Speed can threaten an OHKO on Roaring Moon, so Pokemon that counter or outspeed these Pokemon like Regenerator Primarina, Bulletproof Iron Treads, and Choice Scarf Scream Tail are a near-must.
