Thanks to a combination of its great Attack and Speed, a superb ability in the form of Regenerator, and a decent movepool, Mienshao is able to act as a great revenge killer that isn't easily worn down overtime. Base 105 Speed allows Mienshao to outspeed a lot of the metagame, including Alakazam, Dragapult, Zeraora, and +1 Volcarona. Close Combat is a newly found STAB attack this generation which can do decent damage to neutral targets, 2HKOing threats such as Rillaboom and offensive Kommo-o. U-turn works wonderfully in conjunction with Choice Scarf and Regenerator, as Mienshao is able to consistently deal chip damage and recover lost health upon switching out. Knock Off provides good coverage and utility for Mienshao, allowing Mienshao to hit Ghost and Psychic-type Pokemon, such as Dragapult, Alakazam, and Gengar. Knock Off also has the added benefit of crippling bulkier Pokemon such as Toxapex and Hippowdon by knocking off their items. Rock Slide provides coverage for Mienshao, allowing it to hit Flying and Bug-type Pokemon such as Togekiss and Volcarona looking to switch into it's STAB attacks. It's important to note that due to Rock Slide and it's speed, Mienshao is one of the best revenge killers for Volcarona outside of Aqua Jet users.

Mienshao is best suited to offensive teams looking to create and keep momentum, while also checking faster threats. Mienshao can be used in conjunction with other VoltTurn users, such as Dragapult and Zeraora. Dragapult is also able to keep Ghost and Psychic-types at bay, while Zeraora is great for taking on bulky Flying-types such as Corviknight and Togekiss that can switch into Mienshao. Entry hazard support from the likes of Excadrill work very well with Mienshao, as VoltTurn teams often force switches, wracking up damage dealt from entry hazards. Excadrill is also able to take on Fairy-types such as Togekiss and Clefable, which can give Mienshao trouble. Mienshao can struggle with bulky Physical Walls such as Amoonguss and Toxapex, so wallbreakers such as Hydreigon and Kyurem can make for great partners. In return, Mienshao can break through special walls such as Tyranitar and Blissey. Lastly, DD Dragapult can outspeed Mienshao at +1, meaning a backup check for this Pokemon is recommended. Swords Dance Scizor is a good option to keep Dragapult at bay.

This Mienshao set takes a different approach, acting more as a Pivot that can switch into neutral special attacks consistently while healing up thanks to Regenerator. Close Combat is the STAB attack of choice which deals decent damage to neutral targets. U-turn as previously mentioned gains momentum, and allows Mienshao to ease prediction and bring in a team mate safely, while also gaining health back thanks to Regenerator. Knock Off provides great utility and coverage, hitting Psychic and Ghost-types, and more importantly removing items from the opposing team. Rock Slide offers general coverage, and allows Mienshao to act as a decent Volcarona check, as with this EV spread Mienshao always lives +1 Psychic from Volcarona, while always OHKOing back in return.

Mienshao finds home on balance and bulky offense teams looking for a fast pivot that can switch into special attacks. This Mienshao acts as a decent check to a multitude of special attackers, such as Gengar, Hydreigon, and Kyurem. As such, Pokemon that can sometimes struggle with the aforementioned Pokemon make for good partners, such as Rillaboom and Togekiss. Rillaboom in particular can synergize well with Mienshao, as they can both use U-turn to pivot into one another. Togekiss on the other hand benefits from Mienshao’s ability to threaten special walls such as Tyranitar and Blissey, which can be hard for Togekiss to muscle through. Because this Mienshao set is used as a pivot, it's going to be switching a lot, meaning entry hazards can reduce the effectiveness of Regenerator and Mienshao as a whole. Excadrill is a great partner, as it provides Rapid Spin support and can check Fairy-types that give Mienshao problems. Strong physical walls such as Skarmory and Hippowdon have no problem switching into Mienshao, meaning special wall breakers such as Kyurem and Hydreigon can make for good partners to Mienshao.
