[OVERVIEW]

Milotic is a good defensive Water-type because it has an amazing matchup against bulky offensive teams. This is because unlike other bulky Water-types, Milotic isn't thwarted by status conditions thanks to Refresh, which, when combined with the move's high PP and Recover, allows Milotic to PP stall Pokemon that rely on status conditions to deal damage such as Registeel, Cresselia, and Porygon2. Milotic can also beat bulky setup sweepers such as Necrozma, Barbaracle, and Snorlax because of its access to Haze. Marvel Scale also helps with its niche, as it can allow Milotic to act as a status absorber and wall Pokemon like Dragon Dance Zygarde-10%. Unfortunately, Milotic's abilities don't aid it unless it outright walls certain Pokemon, and its low offensive output and Speed mean it is vulnerable to faster wallbreakers such as Virizion, Raikou, and Toxicroak and to Taunt users such as Noivern, Mandibuzz, and Mismagius. However, running Ice Beam does improve its matchup against Grass-types like Roserade and Mega Sceptile at the expense of being able to beat bulky offense teams. If Milotic chooses to forgo Refresh for Ice Beam, then it also becomes vulnerable to being worn down by status conditions more quickly. Milotic faces a lot of competition for a spot on a team; as a bulky Water-type, Slowbro, Gastrodon, and Mantine offer far superior utility by virtue of their typings, abilities, and access to Defog in Mantine's case, and as a status absorber, Machamp is far less passive.

Moves
========

Toxic improves Milotic's matchups against Mandibuzz, Araquanid, and Slowbro, while Haze can be used to beat setup Pokemon such as Sigilyph, Necrozma, and Zygarde-10%. Refresh allows Milotic to potentially beat more passive Pokemon like Registeel, Porygon2, and Bronzong thanks to the move's high PP. Ice Beam is a decent alternative to Refresh to improve Milotic's offensive output and chip away at Scald-resistant Pokemon such as Mega Sceptile, Noivern, and Toxicroak at the expense of Refresh's high PP and ability to beat bulky Pokemon. It's important to note that Milotic's moveset is incredibly flexible and can be customized to fit what its team needs.

Set Details
========

The given EV spread allows Milotic to avoid a 2HKO from Nidoqueen's Thunderbolt and Necrozma's +1 Photon Geyser as well as an OHKO from +2 Salazzle's Acid Downpour and Barbaracle's Continental Crush and makes it safer to stay in against Mega Blastoise in case Dark Pulse makes Milotic flinch. Marvel Scale allows Milotic to gain a Defense boost in case it is afflicted by a status condition, which can make it harder to take down.

Usage Tips
========

Milotic should use its bulk to pivot into Pokemon like Mega Blastoise, Metagross, Nidoqueen, Gardevoir, and Goodra. Afterwards, it can force out setup sweepers like Necrozma, Salazzle, and Barbaracle with Haze or the threat of a Scald burn. Be cautious with this play, (AC) because some of these Pokemon like Nidoqueen, Goodra, and Gardevoir can carry super effective coverage against Milotic, and Metagross and Gardevoir could just as easily threaten Milotic with Trick. Milotic can also easily pivot into bulky Pokemon like Registeel, Porygon2, and Cresselia and Scald users such as Slowbro, Mantine, and Gastrodon to gain a Defense boost from the status conditions they afflict. It can even PP stall these Pokemon by spamming Refresh due to the move's absurdly high PP. Use Ice Beam to pressure Grass- and Dragon-types, Toxicroak, and certain Defog users like Mandibuzz so that your team's entry hazards can stay on the field longer. Keep Milotic as healthy as possible so that it can beat the Pokemon it needs to. This means keeping Milotic away from Toxic if you choose to forgo Refresh, because its longevity will diminish over time despite the boost from Marvel Scale. Milotic is extremely passive, so it should avoid Taunt users such as Mandibuzz, Noivern, and Mismagius at all costs. Running Ice Beam does improve its matchup against Noivern and Mandibuzz, however.

Team Options
========

Milotic can fit on more defensive teams that need a solid wall, a status absorber, and a method to beat setup sweepers. A check to Grass- and Electric-types such as Noivern, Ninetales, and Nidoqueen is generally appreciated to give Milotic an easier time pivoting into offensive Pokemon. Other offensive Pokemon like Gardevoir, Necrozma, and Sigilyph can help Milotic combat Machamp and Toxicroak, two Pokemon that give it some trouble. Physically offensive Pokemon such as Golisopod, Virizion, and Bewear pair well with Milotic, as it can act as a check to Scald users for them. Golisopod in particular can benefit from Milotic's ability to threaten spinners like Donphan and Mega Blastoise, as well as target threatening Defog users like Mandibuzz and Sigilyph with Ice Beam to keep its Spikes on the field longer. Defensive teammates such as Slowbro, Porygon2, and Cresselia greatly appreciate Milotic's Haze support to prevent setup sweepers from quickly overwhelming them. They also love Milotic's ability to absorb status conditions to give them a much easier time walling offensive threats, and in return they can wall Pokemon that Milotic cannot alone such as Zygarde-10%, Tyrantrum, and Machamp.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Dragon Tail could be used instead of Haze to offensively combat setup sweepers and has better synergy with entry hazards. However, Dragon Tail has less PP and has a chance to miss, which makes Haze the better choice. Competitive gives Milotic a method to beat Defog users and Sticky Web teams, but it misses out on Marvel Scale's defensive utility. Flame Orb can give Milotic an immediate Marvel Scale boost, but this is not recommended because it misses out on the passive recovery of Leftovers, and the need to use Recover more often invites more wallbreakers into battle.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Taunt and Trick Users**: Pokemon such as Mandibuzz, Noivern, and Mismagius can threaten Milotic out of battle simply by using Taunt, which leaves Milotic with few options to retaliate against them. Noivern can also further cripple Milotic by using Switcheroo to give it a Choice Scarf. Other Trick users like Gardevoir and Espeon also threaten Milotic.

**Scald-resistant Pokemon**: Pokemon such as Virizion, Dragalge, and Slowking can easily threaten Milotic out of battle thanks to their resistance to Scald. Despite having the type advantage, Virizion does have to worry about being burned and switching into Ice Beam. Machamp can easily switch into Scald and gain a Guts boost from the burn. Toxicroak is especially dangerous, since it is immune to Scald thanks to Dry Skin and can easily set up against Milotic.

**Electric-types and Electric-type Coverage**: Raikou can easily force Milotic out of battle and begin setting up with Substitute and Calm Mind. Other Pokemon like Modest Nidoqueen and Choice Specs Goodra can carry Electric-type coverage moves to beat Milotic.

**Grass-types**: Grass-types such as Roserade, Shaymin, and Mega Sceptile can pivot into Milotic and threaten it out of battle. They all can be threatened by Ice Beam, however.

**Status Conditions**: If Milotic runs Ice Beam over Refresh, it cannot combat status conditions as well. Even if Milotic runs Refresh, it still has to use a turn to get rid of poison from Toxic, which can give the foe an opportunity to take advantage of it.

  • Unlike other bulky Water-types, Milotic isn't thwarted by status conditions thanks to Refresh, which combined with Recover allows it to PP stall Pokemon that rely on status conditions to deal damage such as Registeel, Cresselia, and Porygon2.
  • Marvel Scale also helps with its niche as it can gain a Defense boost when statused, so it can act as a status absorber by checking Scald users such as Slowbro, Mantine, and Gastrodon.
  • Milotic can also beat bulky setup sweepers such as Necrozma, Barbaracle, and Snorlax because of its access to Haze. move this bullet above marvel scale
  • Unfortunately Milotic is very passive, which combined with its low offensive output and low Speed means it is vulnerable to fast wallbreakers such as Virizion, Raikou, and Mega Sceptile, Pokemon with super-effective coverage such as Nidoqueen and Goodra, and Taunt users such as Mismagius and Mandibuzz. dont mention goodra and queen, most common sets lose to milo, i also would keep frail grass types off the first part and then maybe a mention near the end of "running ice beam helps u beat x, x, and x mon but...."
  • If Milotic chooses to forgo Refresh for Ice Beam, then it becomes vulnerable to being worn down by status conditions.
  • Milotic has a lot of competition for a spot on a team; as a bulky Water-type, Slowbro, Gastrodon, and Mantine offer far superior utility by virtue of their typings, abilities, and access to Defog in Mantine's case, and as a status aborber, Machamp is far less passive.
  • id also mention how milo just wasnt that good because the meta shifted to a more offensive one and it didnt appreciate its passivity and didnt particularly need milo's ability to beat bulky mons. you can translate that into analysis writing by saying its abilities arent that great vs offense if ur not outright walling a mon - but that its pretty amazing vs bulky offense / balance cause of its good fat matchup
  • also u need a positive bullet on its high pp which lets it win vs lots of bulky stuff by just pp stalling

  • Resfresh Refresh allows Milotic to potentially beat more passive Pokemon like Registeel, Porygon2, and Bronzong thanks to the move's high PP.

  • The given spread allows Milotic to survive Nidoqueen's Thunderbolt, Necrozma's +1 Photon Geyser, and Mega Blastoise's Dark Pulse, while still stomaching Barbaracle's Continental Crush.
  • youve got these wrong. here is what the spread does:
    • avoids 2hko from tbolt queen
    • avoids 2hko from +1 photon geyser> reg photon geyser after rocks
    • makes u safer vs mega blastoise in case of flinch
    • live +2 acid downpour from lazzle IF ur at full
  • make these statements specific, the wording atm makes it seem like all of those moves come close to OHKOing it which is not true
  • Marvel Scale allows Milotic to gain a defense boost in case it is afflicted by a status condition.

Usage Tips

  • Milotic is a straightforward Pokemon to use. It should use its bulk to pivot into Pokemon like Mega Blastoise, Metagross, Nidoqueen, Gardevoir, and Goodra. Other Options
=============

  • Dragon Tail could be used instead of Haze to offensively combat setup sweepers and has better synergy with hazards. However, Dragon Tail has less PP and has a chance to miss, which makes Haze the better choice.
  • Toxic can make Milotic less exploitable by crippling other defensive Pokemon like Slowbro, Creselia, and Porygon2, and puts bulky setup sweepers like Necrozma and Snorlax on a timer. refresh does all of that already
  • Running Competitive improves Milotic's offensive output by giving it a method to counteract Defog users and Sticky Webs teams, but its offensive movepool and Speed are rather lackluster. youre not really using milo offensively even at +2 so not really relevant, just makes it more annoying vs defog overall. main drawback here is ur not using marvel scale
  • Flame Orb can give Milotic an immediate Marvel Scale boost, which can give its moveset a little bit of flexibility by not having to use Refresh. However, the passive recovery of Leftovers and the need to Recover more often offsets this option. if youre going to mention this, you NEED to make it look like shit - because it is. the net difference in passive hp recovery compared to the main set is 12 which is very significant for milo; you dont want it recovering that much and invinting in even more wallbreakers.

**Taunt and Trick**: Pokemon such as Mandibuzz, Noivern, and Mismagius can threaten Milotic out of battle simply by using Taunt, which leaves Milotic with little options to retaliate against them. **Electric-types and Electric-type Coverage**: Raikou can easily force Milotic out of battle and begin setting up with Substitute and Calm Mind. Other Pokemon like Nidoqueen and Goodra can carry Electric-type coverage moves to beat finish this - also specifically mention modest thunder queen and specs goodra

**Grass-types**: Grass-types such as Roserade, Shaymin, and Mega Sceptile can pivot into Milotic and threaten it out of battle. They all can be threatened by Ice Beam, however.

**Status Conditions**: If Milotic chooses to run Ice Beam over Refresh, then it cannot combat status conditions as well. Even if Milotic runs Refresh, it still has to use a turn to get rid of poison from Toxic, which can give the foe an opportunity to take advantage of it.

toxic should be on the set and slashed before haze. it still has its uses in crippling slowbro/king, mandibuzz, araquanid, viri, cress etc etc, and haze is nowhere near mandatory imo. haze can mainly check cm psychics and the occasional curse lax, but it’s pretty shaky against cm psychics either way whereas toxic is a much better catch-all. generally the last two moveslots can be customized with any of haze, refresh, ice beam, toxic. it’s important to mention that in set details since milotic works as a glue, and the last two moves are often not fixed because of how it‘s customized to fulfill different roles depending on the teams needs. for example balances that need noivern checked and have a weakness to registeel may opt for refresh + ib, whereas a balance build that has issues with opposing waters would want toxic + refresh and so on. this should be the set:

name: Defensive
move 1: Scald
move 2: Recover
move 3: Toxic / Haze
move 4: Refresh / Ice Beam

once you make the change qc 3/3

[OVERVIEW]

Milotic is a good defensive Water-type because it has an amazing matchup against bulky offensive teams. This is because unlike other bulky Water-types, Milotic isn't thwarted by status conditions thanks to Refresh, which, (AC) when combined with its the move's high PP and Recover, (AC) allows it Milotic to PP stall Pokemon that rely on status conditions to deal damage such as Registeel, Cresselia, and Porygon2. Milotic can also beat bulky setup sweepers such as Necrozma, Barbaracle, and Snorlax because of its access to Haze. Marvel Scale also helps with its niche, (AC) as it can gain a Defense boost when statused, so it can (Dex info; you don't need this) allow Milotic to act as a status absorber by checking Scald users such as Slowbro, Mantine, and Gastrodon. Once upon a time, these traits were strong enough to make Milotic the dominant bulky Water-type in RU. However, the metagame evolved into a more offensively inclined one, and Milotic suffered in viability because of this. To begin with Unfortunately (don't reference generational shifts or metagame shifts), Milotic is very passive, its Milotic's (You say that it's passive later in the sentence) abilities don't aid it unless it outright walls certain Pokemon, and its low offensive output and low Speed mean it is vulnerable to faster wallbreakers such as Virizion, Raikou, and Toxicroak, and Taunt users such as Noivern, Mandibuzz, and Mismagius. However, running Ice Beam does improve its matchup against Grass-types like Roserade and Mega Sceptile at the expense of being able to beat bulky offense teams. If Milotic chooses to forgo Refresh for Ice Beam, then it also becomes vulnerable to being worn down by status conditions faster more quickly. Milotic has faces a lot of competition for a spot on a team; as a bulky Water-type, Slowbro, Gastrodon, and Mantine offer far superior utility by virtue of their typings, abilities, and access to Defog in Mantine's case, and as a status aborber, Machamp is far less passive.

Toxic improves Milotic's matchups against Mandibuzz, Araquanid, and Slowbro, (AC) while Haze can be used to beat set-(AH)up (If you mean that the Pokemon have already set up, make this change. If you mean that the Pokemon simply pack boosting moves and have not necessarily used them, change "set up Pokemon" to "setup sweepers".) Pokemon such as Sigiliph Sigilyph, Necrozma, and Zygarde-10%. It's important to note that Milotic's moveset is incredibly flexible, (AC) since it is essentially a glue Pokemon (I don't understand what this means), so it's moveset is customizable to fit what its team needs it to do. (department of redundancy department)

Set Details
========

The given EV spread allows Milotic to avoid a 2HKO from Nidoqueen's Thunderbolt and after Stealth Rock, dodges a 2HKO from Necrozma's +1 Photon Geyser after Stealth Rock, (wordiness; I also moved "after Stealth Rock" earlier to let the reader know that both moves can no longer 2HKO after that chip damage) as well as an OHKO from +2 Salazzle's Acid Downpour from full health and Barbaracle's Continental Crush (Is this correct? And either way, Barbaracle will only be able to use Continental Crush once), and makes it safer to stay in (Is this correct?) against Mega Blastoise in case Dark Pulse makes Milotic flinches it. Milotic is also only 2HKO'd by Barbaracle's Continental Crush. Marvel Scale allows Milotic to gain a defense Defense boost in case it is afflicted by a status condition.

Milotic is a straightforward Pokemon to use. It (Do you need this?) should use its bulk to pivot into Pokemon like Mega Blastoise, Metagross, Nidoqueen, Gardevoir, and Goodra. Afterwards, it can force out setup sweepers like Necrozma, Salazzle, and Barbaracle with Haze or the threat of a Scald burn. Be cautious with this play because some of these Pokemon like Nidoqueen, Goodra, and Gardevoir can carry super-(RH) effective coverage against Milotic, and Metagross and Gardevoir could just as easily threaten Milotic with Trick. Milotic can also easily pivot against into (Is this what you were trying to say?) bulky Pokemon like Registeel, Porygon2, and Cresselia and Scald users such as Slowbro, Mantine, and Gastrodon to gain a boost from the status conditions they afflict. It can even PP stall these Pokemon by spamming Refresh due to its the move's absurdly high PP. Use Ice Beam to pressure Grass- and Dragon-types, Toxicroak, and certain Defog users like Mandibuzz, (RC) so that its team's entry hazards can stay on the field longer. Keep Milotic as healthy as possible so that it can beat the Pokemon it needs to. This means keeping Milotic away from Toxic if it chooses you choose (You pick the moves; Milotic itself doesn't pick them) to forgo Refresh becaue because its longevitiy diminishes longevity will diminish over(space)time, (RC) despite the boost from Marvel Scale. Milotic is extrememly extremely passive, so it should avoid Taunt users such as Mandibuzz, Noivern, and Mismagius at all costs. Running Ice Beam does improve its matchup against Noivern and Mandibuzz, however.

Team Options
========

Milotic can fits fit on more defensive teams that need a solid wall, a status absorber, and a method to beat setup sweepers. A check to Grass- and Electric-types such as Noivern, Ninetales, and Nidoqueen is generally appreciated to give Milotic a lease on its time an easier time (the term is "a new lease on life", and I don't think it would be accurate here) pivoting into offensive Pokemon. Other offensive Pokemon like Gardevoir, Necrozma, and Sigilyph can help Milotic combat Machamp and Toxicroak, two Pokemon that give Milotic some trouble. Physically offensive Pokemon such as Golisopod, Virizion, and Bewear pair well with Milotic, as it can act as a check to Scald users for them. Golisopod, (RC) in particular, (RC) can benefit from Milotic's ability to threaten Rapid Spinners spinners like Donphan and Mega Blastoise, as well as Ice Beam threatening Defog users like Mandibuzz and Sigilyph to keep its Spikes on the field longer. Defensive teammates such as Slowbro, Porygon2, and Cresselia greatly appreciate Milotic's Haze support to prevent setup sweepers from quickly overwhelming them. They also love Milotic's ability to absorb status conditions to give them a much easier time walling offensive threats, (AC) and in return they, in return, can wall Pokemon that Milotic cannot do alone (If Milotic can indeed wall these Pokemon to an extent, keep "alone") such as Zygarde-10%, Tyrantrum, and Machamp.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Dragon Tail could be used instead of Haze to offensively combat setup sweepers and has better synergy with entry hazards. However, Dragon Tail has less fewer PP and has a chance to miss, which makes Haze the better choice. Running Competitive gives Milotic a method to beat Defog users and Sticky Webs Web teams, but it misses out on Marvel Scale's defensive utility. Flame Orb can give Milotic an immediate Marvel Scale boost, but this is not reccomended recommended because it misses out on the passive recovery of Leftovers, (AC) and the need to use Recover more often invites more wallbreakers into battle.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Taunt and Trick Users**: Pokemon such as Mandibuzz, Noivern, and Mismagius can threaten Milotic out of battle simply by using Taunt, which leaves Milotic with little few options to retaliate against them. Noivern can also further cripple Milotic by using Switcheroo to give it a Choice Scarf. Other Trick users like Gardevoir and Espeon also threaten Milotic.

**Scald-resistant Pokemon**: Pokemon such as Virizion, Dragalge, and Slowking can easily threaten Milotic out of battle thanks to thier their resistances to Scald. Despite having (We might've had a dangling modifier here) the type advantage, Virizion does have to worry about being burned and switching into Ice Beam. Machamp can easily switch into Scald and gain a Guts boost from the burn. Toxicroak is especially dangerous, since it is immunte immune to Scald thanks to Dry Skin and can easily set up against it Milotic.

**Electric-types and Electric-type Coverage**: Raikou can easily force Milotic out of battle and begin setting up with Substitute and Calm Mind. Other Pokemon like Modest Nidoqueen with Thunder (Is this necessary? You mention Electric coverage later) and Choice Specs Goodra can carry Electric-type coverage moves to beat Milotic.

**Grass-types**: Grass-types such as Roserade, Shaymin, and Mega Sceptile can pivot into Milotic and threaten it out of battle. They all can be threatened by Ice Beam, however.

**Status Conditions**: If Milotic chooses to run runs Ice Beam over Refresh, then it cannot combat status conditions as well. Even if Milotic runs Refresh, it still has to use a turn to get rid of poison from Toxic, which can give the foe an opportunity to take advantage of it.

Marvel Scale also helps with its niche, (AC) as it can allow Milotic to act as a status absorber by checking Scald users such as Slowbro, Mantine, and Gastrodon. Unfortunately, Milotic's abilities don't aid it unless it outright walls certain Pokemon, and its low offensive output and Speed mean it is vulnerable to faster wallbreakers such as Virizion, Raikou, and Toxicroak, and Taunt users such as Noivern, Mandibuzz, and Mismagius. Milotic faces a lot of competition for a spot on a team; as a bulky Water-type, Slowbro, Gastrodon, and Mantine offer far superior utility by virtue of their typings, abilities, and access to Defog in Mantine's case, and as a status aborber, Machamp is far less passive.

Toxic improves Milotic's matchups against Mandibuzz, Araquanid, and Slowbro, while Haze can be used to beat set-up Pokemon such as Sigilyph, Necrozma, and Zygarde-10%. It's important to note that Milotic's moveset is incredibly flexible, since its moveset can be customized to fit what its team needs.
