Mega Garchomp is a great Stealth Rock user due to the multitude of switches it is able to force against Pokemon such as Heatran, Magearna, and Mega Mawile. Earthquake is used instead of Earth Power because Mega Garchomp's uninvested Attack is greater than its fully invested Special Attack and Earthquake has higher BP. It also does much greater damage to Toxapex, Tapu Fini, and Magearna. Draco Meteor is Mega Garchomp's strongest STAB move and its best tool against Tornadus-T, Landorus-T, Rotom-W, Mega Latios, and Mega Latias. Fire Blast allows it to get past Pokemon that would otherwise shut it down or take advantage of it, such as Celesteela, Tapu Bulu, Ferrothorn, and Mega Mawile in Grassy Terrain.
Set Details
========

Rough Skin is Garchomp's best ability before Mega Evolving and can be used to get chip damage on Kartana or Landorus using U-turn. However, it shouldn't be used in a fashion like that liberally, since Mega Garchomp doesn't have recovery and is not bulky like TankChomp. A Mild nature is preferred over Rash in order to get past Tornadus-T, Rotom-W, and Celesteela with more ease while the drop in Defense doesn't matter as much as Special Defense; Mega Garchomp is much more adept at checking special attackers like Heatran and Magnezone. While running a Naive or Hasty nature is viable, however, it is generally not advised due to the extra power of Mild being very useful against Tornadus-T, Landorus-T, and Rotom-W.
Usage Tips
========

Mega Garchomp is best used as an early- to mid-game wallbreaker and Stealth Rock setter. Try to get it in via aggressive double switches or U-turns and take advantage of the switches it forces in order to get Stealth Rock up or use one of its strong attacks on a predicted switch-in, such as Draco Meteor on Rotom-W or Fire Blast on Celesteela. Mega Garchomp can also switch into Fire-types like Heatran and Mega Charizard X lacking a Dragon STAB attack or Electric-types like Zapdos lacking Hidden Power Ice and Magnezone. However, keep in mind that it is susceptible to chip damage and can't do so continuously throughout the game. When weakened it also can't take advantage of its great natural bulk, which allows it to tank powerful moves like Choice Specs Greninja's Hydro Pump, Mega Alakazam's Psychic, and Choice Band Kartana's Leaf Blade. This means that teams that Mega Garchomp finds itself on shouldn't rely on it as the sole counterplay to said Fire- and Electric-type Pokemon. Mega Garchomp can oftentimes hold off on Mega Evolving until it needs the extra power, which gives Pokemon like Mega Latias and Celesteela a false sense of security, allowing you to breeze past them with a surprise Draco Meteor or Fire Blast. Regular Garchomp also has a better Speed tier, rendering it faster than Jolly Excadrill, Modest Tapu Lele, and everything else in their respective Speed tiers.
Team Options
========

Tornadus-T provides an excellent partner to Mega Garchomp, as it is able to switch into Landorus-T relatively freely(although it should be careful of Stone Edge), can get Mega Garchomp in safely against Heatran and Toxapex through U-turn, and can overwhelm mutual checks like Celesteela and Rotom-W. Ash-Greninja appreciates Mega Garchomp's ability to lure and weaken Grass-types like Ferrothorn and Tapu Bulu, as ithas a much easier time breaking through when they are low on health or fainted. It also can draw in Toxapex and Magearna for Mega Garchomp to take advantage of. Magearna is another strong teammate for Mega Garchomp. Offensive variants appreciate the holes Mega Garchomp can punch through bulkier teams in order to clean late-game with Shift Gear, while defensive Volt Switch variants can let it in safely against Heatran and Toxapex. Ferrothorn forms a strong utility core with Mega Garchomp, providing Spikes to accompany Mega Garchomp's Stealth Rock. Leech Seed allows Mega Garchomp to benefit from Heatran trying to take advantage of Ferrothorn, Knock Off can cripple Celesteela and Tangrowth to allow Mega Garchomp to break them with more ease, and Thunder Wave makes Tornadus-T and Kartana slower than Mega Garchomp, thus rendering them exploitable.

Draco Meteor is Mega Garchomp's strongest STAB and its best tool against Tornadus-T, Landorus-T & Rotom-W.
  • i'd mention the mega lati twins too, because they often switch into regular chomp to force it out w beam.
Usage Tips
  • say why mild is preferred over rash. obviously for heatran and shit, but still worth a mention for newer players.
Usage Tips
  • i'd mention something about not mega evolving in a handful of matchups, be it to give the likes of landorus-t and mega lati twins some false sense of security if you just go for rocks and not attack them, or in certain matchups when garchomp's speed tier may be advantageous, such as against bulkarona, specs tapu lele, and kommo-o, of course you miss out on a lot of wallbreaking potential, but being able to revenge kill these may be quite useful in certain matchups i feel.

excellent writing bruv, really happy to see you helping with analyses!

  • Stealth Rock punishes the multitude of switchins that Mega Garchomp can force against Pokemon like Heatran, Magearna and Mega Mawile. I'd phrase this more so that it directly correlates to why Mega Garchomp is a good Stealth Rock setter because it doesn't really sound as obvious as it could as of now.
  • Earthquake is used instead of Earth Power since Mega Garchomp's uninvested Attack is greater than its fully invested Special Attack, as well as having higher BP.
  • Draco Meteor is Mega Garchomp's strongest STAB and its best tool against Tornadus-T, Landorus-T, Rotom-W & the Mega Lati twins.
  • Fire Blast allows it to get past Pokemon that would otherwise shut it down or take advantage of it, such as Celesteela, Tapu Bulu, Ferrothorn and Mega Mawile in Grassy Terrain.

  • Rough Skin is Garchomp's best ability before Mega Evolving and can be used to get chip damage on Landorus-T U-turning or Kartana. However, it shouldn't be used in a fashion like that liberally, since it doesn't have recovery and is not bulky like TankChomp.
  • A Mild nature is preferred in order to get past Tornadus-T, Rotom-W and Celesteela with more ease. The drop in Defense is more useful than Special Defense, as Mega Garchomp is much more adept at checking Special attackers like Heatran or Magnezone. A drop is never really useful so I think you should reword it to something like "doesn't matter as much as a drop in" rather than "is more useful than".
Usage Tips
========

  • Mega Garchomp is best used as an early-mid game wallbreaker & Stealth Rock setter.
  • Try to get it in via aggressive doubles or U-turns and take advantage of the switches it forces in order to get Stealth Rock up, or use one of its strong attacks on a predicted switch, such as Draco Meteor on Rotom-W or Fire Blast on Celesteela.
  • Mega Garchomp can also switch into Fire types like Heatran and Mega Charizard X lacking Dragon stab or Electric types like Zapdos lacking Hidden Power Ice and Magnezone.
  • However, keep in mind that it is prone to chip damage and can't do so continuously throughout the game. Not being healthy also means it can't take advantage of its great natural bulk, which allows it to tank powerful moves like Choice Specs Greninja's Hydro Pump, Mega Alakazam's Psychic or Choice Band Kartana's Leaf Blade. Make sure that this correlates to not using Mega Garchomp as a teams main check to the aforementioned Fire- and Electric-types.
  • Mega Garchomp can oftentimes hold onto Mega Evolving until it needs the extra power. This gives Pokemon like Mega Latias and Celesteela a false sense of security, allowing you to breeze past them with a surprise Draco Meteor/Fire Blast for teammates to take advantage of, as well as a better Speed tier. Mention some particular situations in which the Speed could matter and how to approach something like that to give the reader a better idea of what you mean.
Team Options
========

  • Tornadus-T provides an excellent partner to Mega Garchomp, as it is able to switch into Landorus relatively freely(although it should be careful of Stone Edge), can get in Mega Garchomp safely through U-turn against Heatran and Toxapex and can helm overwhelm mutual checks like Celesteela and Rotom-W.
  • Greninja-Ash appreciate Mega Garchomp's ability to lure grasses like Ferrothorn and Tapu Bulu, as them being low on health or fainted means it has a much easier time breaking through. It also can draw in Toxapex and Magearna for Mega Garchomp to take advantage of.
  • Magearna is another strong teammate for Mega Garchomp. Offensive variants appreciate the holes Mega Garchomp can punch through bulkier teams in order to clean late game with Shift Gear, whilst defensive Volt Switch variants can let it in safely against Heatran and Toxapex.
  • Ferrothorn forms a strong utility core with Mega Garchomp, providing both Stealth Rock and Spikes. Does Ferrothorn provide both Stealth Rock and Spikes? Reword this to make what you mean more obvious. Leech Seed allows Mega Garchomp to benefit from Heatran trying to take advantage of Ferrothorn, Knock Off can cripple Celesteela & Tangrowth to allow Mega Garchomp to break them with more ease while Thunder Wave makes Tornadus-T and Kartana slower than Mega Garchomp, thus rendering them abusable.

For Earthquake vs Earth Power, focus on targets the move will be hitting instead of or along with stats and BP

You could mention running Naive over Mild in set details to outspeed base 100s and timid Lele/KyuB pre-Mega, up to you since the rest of your team should be handling those mons anyway and mild is really nice vs max hp torns

qc 3/3, Nice work and give it a quick read over before sending it to gp

Isn't 24 HP EV's would be better, like lyd said on his spotlight? Surviving a Supersonic Skystrike from offensive Landorus-T can be beneficial, since this set can't outspeed it. I don't know if without these EVs, it misses some OHKOs tho.
