Actually it is done in flash. Interestingly enough, this is one of the reasons why one background character became so popular that she'll become an actual character in the second season.
Yes and no
It was "discovered" by 4chan after the first two episodes, and pretty much 95% of the people who have heard of or watched the show learned about it through the related meme.
It's better than pretty much any cartoon shown these days. Most have unmoving background characters, some just have shitty backgrounds, and some just don't have any background characters. For the most part, the movements in the show are all legitimate horse movements, with joints bending correctly and whatever. TV Tropes has more (a lot more) but if you control-f "shown their work" you'll see that they did a pretty good job without actually watching a full episode.
i haven't watched anything about this but i can already say that the original my little ponies was cute and awesome and perfectly catered to my little girl mind back then. my grandmother used to tape it for me, BOSS
edit: watched a bit of one of the episodes, and it's already trying too hard to have that 'sassy girl attitude' with the characters but still be disgustingly adorable. it's like any of the disney shows anymore, terrible

Well duh #az I mean the proportions aren't exactly close to those of a horse's either. There are fucking unicorns and every pony has crazy coat colors like purple and green. Point being it's a cartoon and it's not going to reflect reality.
The animation is still decent, although I wouldn't necessarily place it as a selling point of the show. It's still pretty great compared to some other stuff, though.

It probably will in the sense that your self esteem will rise after seeing the utter failures of this cartoon compared to your own

Watched the two pilot episodes. I'd say the show is alright, animation is pretty good and it's got better writing and humor than most cartoons that have been released these days. Not really dying to see it again, but it's harmless enough.

it was the one with the princess and such, phoenix I think. I watched the pilot and some other one but didn't make it through before I got distracted by skateboards.
Bird in the Hoof, then. Pretty decent episode. You should try Swarm of the Century or Bridle Gossip next.
