Introduction
Hello everyone it’s In the Hills here with my first team showcase to present to everyone: Peer Pressure (or PP for short). I had been testing this team quite a bit during OMPL, and was lucky enough to see it used, and win the series, in the finals match. The idea behind this team is a combination of two of my favorite strategies: Pressure and Toxic Spikes so without further ado here’s the team

Teambuilding Process

This team came to fruition when best USM player Zesty mentioned this core in the mnm discord, and I decided to build around it. The idea is the standard Toxapex+Vintwo core with Gyaradosite Toxapex to set Toxic Spikes and Mewtwo to set up with Calm Mind while stalling the opponent’s PP utilizing the combo of Pressure and Substitute+Protect. Giratina forms a double Pressure core that can further drain opponents PP.

One thing that the original struggles with desperately is Steel types as Toxapex can’t poison them while Vintwo and Giratina can’t damage them enough, so I added Groudon-Primal to better handle the likes of Magearna and Skarmory.

Calm Mind Latiasite Magearna was added to the team to better handle multiple threats to the team such as Landorus-Therian, Darkrai, Yveltal and Mandibuzz while setting up on these and other threats.

The last slot was a tricky one. Originally, the Buzzwole was Sablenite to provide a strong check to Lucarionite Zygarde while giving a better matchup against Darkrai. After Andy’s OMPL battle, I realized that the Altarianite Zygarde matchup wasn’t the best, so I changed it to Aggronite Buzzwole. However after more testing, I realized that the match up against fire types like Red Orb Darkrai and Swords Dance Groudon-Primal with fire coverage were much more threatening, so I finally settled on Blue Orb Buzzwole.

The Team
F2D47E81-558D-4012-A690-8C85D8FC8EF6.gif

Giratina @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Relaxed Nature
IVs: 30 Spe
- Rest
- Will-O-Wisp
- Defog
- Dragon Tail

Giratina acts as the Defogger of this team that acts as a check to metagame threats such as Kartana and defensive Groudon-Primal. The 30 IVs in speed and Relaxed nature are so that Giratina underspeeds defensive Groudon-Primal and can Defog at the end of the turn if Groudon is spamming Stealth Rock.

Toxapex @ Gyaradosite
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Recover
- Payback
- Toxic Spikes
- Toxic

Toxapex was included on this team because it is the best Toxic Spiker in the meta that provides a valuable check to threats such as Lunala while pressuring most Defoggers in the tier. Toxic Spikes are of course to spread Toxic easily, while Toxic is to status Flying types and Pokemon with Levitate. Max SpDef is to handle special attackers such as Lunala and Tapu Lele better. You could go for an alternative spread with minimum speed to underspeed most of the tier, but it isn’t necessary.

Mewtwo @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Substitute
- Calm Mind
- Psystrike
- Protect

Ah Vintwo... the bread and butter of this team. Seriously this mon is crazy threatening when paired with Toxic Spikes. Substitute and Protect are used to PP stall bulkier opponents while Calm Mind is used to take advantage of turns where the opponent is forced to recover. Psystrike is a strong STAB move that can break a lot of Pokemon after a few boosts.

Groudon-Primal @ Red Orb
Ability: Desolate Land
EVs: 252 HP / 96 Atk / 112 SpD / 48 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Stealth Rock
- Smack Down
- Precipice Blades

Primal Groudon is used as the Stealth Rocker of this team because it’s able to pressure Sablenite Pokemon and Defoggers with Swords Dance. Smack Down is used to dissuade Pokemon such as Skarmory Zapdos and Latiasite Toxapex from switching in while Precipice Blades are a very strong STAB move for Groudon to utilize.

Magearna @ Latiasite
Ability: Soul-Heart
EVs: 248 HP / 248 Def / 12 Spe
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Calm Mind
- Thunderbolt
- Fleur Cannon
- Pain Split

CM Latiasite Magearna is able to come in on Pokemon such as Landorus-Therian that would normally threaten the team immensely. Calm Mind is used to gain value from the many switchins it can get in games while FleurBolt coverage is pretty standard on more defensive Calm Mind Magearnas. Pain Split increases Magearna’s longevity against Pokemon like Blissey, Buzzwole and support Arceus formes.

Buzzwole @ Blue Orb
Ability: Beast Boost
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Impish Nature
- Bulk Up
- Lunge
- Superpower
- Roost

Blue Orb Buzzwole is used to check threats such as offensive Groudon-Primal, Lucarionite Zygarde, Lucarionite Terrakion and Red Orb Darkrai. Bulk Up is a reliable setup move that increases Buzzwoles ability to check Lucarionite Zygarde and other physical attackers. Lunge is valuable in keeping physical setup sweepers in check. Superpower is used as a strong STAB move that can 1HKO Terrakion and Darkrai effectively. Roost increases Buzzwole’s longevity immensely of course and allows Buzzwole to check threats better.

Threatlist
72AB92AA-EB38-4C02-8834-C2BE3F88890C.png

Necrozma-Dusk-Mane is a very tough matchup for this team as it can setup for almost free against 3 Pokemon on the team and every Pokemon on the team struggles to switch in. If it isn’t double dance Mewtwo can try to stall out PP, but generally this is an incredibly hard matchup for this team
BD2AA943-3571-4303-91C3-6A54D65CEDC9.png

Altarianite Zygarde is a pretty large threat to the team, and while it does struggle to setup against most Pokemon on the team, you need to keep Magearna healthy to reliably check it if it manages to get to +1, because while it can tank Thousand Arrows, it is prone to being worn down.
FC752D8F-5201-4221-B0FD-67A27F0ED5E1.png

LO Heat Wave Yveltal is a threat to the team as it can wear down Magearna in just a few switchins and after that it can sweep with no problem.
