UU Moltres (REVAMP)

:ss/moltres:
[OVERVIEW]

Moltres stands out as a solid offensive pivot thanks to U-turn complementing its good STAB combination and its ability to check tier staples like Scizor, Amoonguss, Skarmory, and Excadrill. Flame Body makes Moltres great at punishing the many U-turn users of the tier, including Scizor, Crobat, Zarude, and Diggersby. Moltres can also function as a solid support Pokemon with its Mystical Fire + Toxic set, wearing down Pokemon like Slowking, Hippowdon, and Rotom-W to support teammates like Mamoswine. Heavy-Duty Boots greatly improves Moltres's efficiency at its roles, but it is extremely reliant on them, making it very susceptible to Knock Off from Pokemon it would normally check like Mamoswine, Tangrowth, and especially Scizor. Teams with Moltres often have to run entry hazard removal so that Moltres can properly check these threats. Moltres can also be taken advantage of by pivots it checks like Scizor, Crobat, and Diggersby to bring in threats like Nihilego, Primarina, and Keldeo. Salamence gives Moltres heavy competition because of its better typing, Intimidate, and greater resilience to Knock Off.

[SET COMMENTS]

Flamethrower and Hurricane serve as strong neutral coverage, with the latter being able to hit Fire-resistant foes like Primarina and Slowking for big damage. U-turn allows Moltres to pivot against threatening Pokemon like Slowking, Nihilego, and Chansey while bringing in wallbreakers like Zygarde-10% and Keldeo. Roost gives Moltres the longevity necessary to check Zarude, Scizor, and Celesteela. Flame Body punishes U-turn users like Scizor, Zarude and Diggersby.

Moltres works best on bulky offense, balance, and VoltTurn teams that appreciate its ability to punish Pokemon like Excadrill and Zarude while providing momentum against foes like Hippowdon. Knock Off absorbers, such as Cobalion and Amoonguss, help alleviate Moltres's biggest concern when facing foes like Scizor. Cobalion is a particularly good partner for Moltres, as it acts as a secondary check to Scizor, potentially forms a VoltTurn core with it, and checks Nihilego and Chansey. Toxic Cobalion luring in Hippowdon creates opportunities for Moltres. Zarude, Swampert, and Slowking deal with Pokemon like Hippowdon and Keldeo for Moltres while also forming momentum cores with it. Scizor also creates a momentum core and pressures Moltres checks like Chansey, Slowking, and Nihilego. Entry hazard support from Pokemon such as Hippowdon and Nihilego is useful for helping Moltres break through Slowking. These Pokemon can also check Thundurus-T and Rotom-H. Physical wallbreakers, such as Zygarde-10% and Conkeldurr, can break through special walls like Chansey and overwhelm shared checks like Slowking. Zygarde-10% also revenge kills faster threats such as Nihilego and Rotom-W.

move 2: Toxic
move 3: U-turn
move 4: Roost
item: Heavy-Duty Boots
ability: Flame Body
nature: Timid
evs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

Mystical Fire weakens switch-ins to Moltres such as Nihilego, Hydreigon and Primarina. Toxic cripples Slowking, Hippowdon, and Rotom-W. U-turn creates momentum for teammates like Mamoswine. 252 HP EVs allow Moltres to sponge hits from Zarude and Scizor more easily.

Moltres works well on balance teams that appreciate its ability to cripple Hippowdon and Slowking with Toxic and offensively check Scizor and Zarude. Walls such as Hippowdon and Assault Vest Tangrowth can switch into Pokemon like Nihilego, Hydreigon, and Primarina, which is made easier thanks to Moltres's Mystical Fire. These Pokemon also check threats like Zygarde-10% and Cobalion, and the former can set up Stealth Rock to wear down Pokemon like Rotom-W and Slowking. Wallbreakers like Mamoswine and Zygarde-10% greatly appreciate threats like Rotom-W, Slowking, and Hippowdon being crippled by Toxic, which helps them overwhelm bulkier teams. In return, Moltres can provide switch-in opportunities with U-turn and check Scizor. Fairy-types, like Primarina, Hatterene, and Togekiss, can help take care of Dragon-types like Hydreigon and Salamence. In return, Moltres can check threats like Zarude and Scizor.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Moltres can run Defog for role compression thanks to it matching up well against entry hazard setters like Excadrill and Skarmory, but it suffers from poor matchups against other common setters like Nihilego, Hippowdon, and Chansey. Dropping U-turn severely limits Moltres's offensive potential as well. A Substitute + Toxic set with an EV spread of 152 HP / 132 SpD / 224 Spe, a Timid nature, and Pressure can be used to cripple and PP stall many of Moltres's counters, such as Hippowdon, Rotom-H, and Rotom-W, but it makes Moltres very passive in general.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Knock Off and Stealth Rock**: Moltres becomes extremely vulnerable to Stealth Rock upon losing its Heavy-Duty Boots. Pokemon that usually lose to Moltres, such as Scizor, Tangrowth, and Conkeldurr, can take advantage of this by using Knock Off against Moltres as it switches in. The former two do fear getting burned by Flame Body, however.

**Rock-types and Rock-type Coverage**: Nihilego and Rhyperior can easily tank Moltres's STAB moves and blow it away with massive damage, though the latter does have to be wary of Toxic. Cobalion, a Pokemon that Moltres is supposed to check, often carries Stone Edge, making it hard for Moltres to switch into. Pokemon that Moltres can normally check, such as Excadrill and Tapu Bulu, may sometimes carry Rock-type coverage moves, forcing Moltres to scout these attacks.

**Electric-types**: Rotom-W, Rotom-H, Raikou, and Thundurus-T can easily take advantage of Moltres with Volt Switch. The former two are especially good counters thanks to resisting Fire.

**Water-types**: Primarina, Swampert, and Slowking can tank Moltres's attacks and deal big damage back with their STAB attacks, though the latter two do not like Toxic. Keldeo can outspeed Moltres and OHKO it with Hydro Pump, but it cannot switch into Moltres safely. Gyarados can take a Hurricane and use Moltres as setup fodder.

**Specially Defensive Walls**: Hippowdon, Umbreon, and Chansey easily tank Moltres's STAB attacks and have reliable recovery; however, Hippowdon greatly dislikes Toxic, and Moltres can easily take advantage of Umbreon and Chansey via U-turn.

[OVERVIEW]

  • An incredibly good typing both offensively and defensively, an excellent ability in Flame Body, and access to moves such as U-turn, Defog, and Toxic allow Moltres to serve as a solid offensive pivot that can also check threats like Zarude, Aegislash, and Jirachi. imo reword this point a bit, talk about why is it a good offensive typing (offensively pressures many staples like Amoonguss, celesteela, and tang), then go into its defensive utility and how flame body can punish jirachi and zarude
  • talk about the support set here as a point, mention how it can wear down Pokemon like Slowking and Rotom-W with toxic to better support a teammate like mamoswine
  • Heavy-Duty Boots greatly improve Moltres's efficiency at this role, as it can now avoid Stealth Rock damage and have much more longevity overall.
  • However, Moltres is incredibly reliant on its Heavy-Duty Boots, making it extremely susceptible to Knock Off from Pokemon like Mamoswine and Mandibuzz.
  • Moltres also suffers from poor matchups against many of the tier's threats, such as Nihilego, Primarina, and Thundurus-T, making it even more complicated to get Moltres onto the field successfully.
  • add how some Pokemon it checks like excadrill and tapu bulu can KO it with rock-type coverage, and bring up its vulnerable speed tier

Paragraph 1
  • Flamethrower and Hurricane serve as Moltres's STAB combo, with Flamethrower targeting Grass- and Steel-types like Amoonguss, Aegislash and Celesteela and Hurricane targeting Fighting-types such as Keldeo and Conkeldurr. the hurricane point should be about hitting fire resists like primarina and slowking hard and keep them from switching in rather than just fighting-types
  • U-turn allows Moltres to pivot out of unfavorable matchups against Pokemon like Slowking, Nihilego, and Chansey while bringing in wallbreakers like Tapu Bulu and Conkeldurr in safely.
  • Alternatively, Defog can be used to get rid of Stealth Rock, arguably Moltres's biggest weakness. reword this point. bring up which setters it matches up well with (skarmory, excadrill) but say how it's generally suboptimal due to falling flat against others like swampert, chansey, and nihilego
  • Roost provides Moltres with a method of recovery, which can help offset Stealth Rock damage and give it more longevity overall. you have boots and should never get knocked so the point is moot. Say how roost gives it the longevity to check zarude, jirachi, and celesteela throughout a game.
  • Flame Body punishes Pokemon like Zarude and Jirachi that try to pivot out on Moltres with U-turn.
  • 88 HP EVs prevent Moltres from being 2HKOed by Zarude's Darkest Lariat.
Paragraph 2
  • Moltres works best on bulky offense, balance and VoltTurn teams that appreciate insurance against the wide variety of threats it checks.
  • Knock Off absorbers, such as Cobalion and Amoonguss, help alleviate Moltres's biggest concern by letting it keep its Heavy-Duty Boots. add how cobalion checks nihilego and chansey and forms a voltturn core
  • Water- and Grass-types, such as Swampert, Slowking, and Zarude, make fantastic partners for Moltres, as they can take care of Rock-types like Lycanroc-D and Nihilego for Moltres while also forming a VoltTurn core with it. In return, Moltres can take care of Pokemon such as Tapu Bulu and Skarmory that check these Water- and Grass-types.
  • If Moltres is not running Defog, other hazard removers, such as Excadrill, Tentacruel, and Salamence, can get rid of Stealth Rocks for Moltres. The former two also appreciate Moltres checking defensive Celesteela for them. once again weird point since you imply it will get knocked when it shouldn't. I also wouldn't run salamence and molt on the same team at all.

  • 252 HP EVs prevent Moltres from getting OHKOed by Thundurus-T's Volt Switch. (its more to just give it bulk to better answer zarude and be able to stay in on slowking to toxic it, bring these points up)
Paragraph 2

  • Frail wallbreakers, such as Conkeldurr and Mamoswine, appreciate Moltres hampering threats like the aforemention Hydriegon and Primarina and making it much safer for them to switch in
  • Hazard removers like Excadrill and Mandibuzz keep Stealth Rocks off of the field, enabling Moltres to do its job more efficiently.
  • Fairy-types, like Primarina, Hatterene, and Togekiss, can help take care of Dragon-types like Hydriegon, Salamence, and Zygarde-10% that Moltres struggles to deal with. In return, Moltres can check Steel-types like Aegislash, Jirachi, and Excadrill for them.

  • Scorching Sands can be used to deal big damage to Rock-types such as Lycanroc-D and Nihilego, but forces Moltres to forego one of its utility moves and is a niche move overall.

Checks and Counters

**Knock Off and Stealth Rock**: Moltres becomes extremely vulnerable if its Heavy-Duty Boots have been knocked off, as it now loses half of its health to Stealth Rock. Pokemon that usually lose to Moltres, such as Krookodile, Tangrowth, and Conkeldurr, take advantage of this by using Knock Off against Moltres as it switches in. The former two does fear getting burned by Flame Body, however.

**Rock-types and Rock-type Coverage**: Nihilego and Rhyperior, and Diancie can all easily tank Moltres's STAB moves and blow it back with their own 4x super-effective moves, though the latter two does have to be wary of Toxic. Lycanroc-D can easily take Moltres out with Stone Edge. Accelerock, but this puts it at risk of being crippled by Flame Body. (or...just use stone edge) Pokemon that Moltres can normally check, such as Excadrill, Tapu Bulu, and offensive Celesteela, may sometimes carry Rock-type coverage moves, forcing Moltres to scout and make sure they do not carry these moves.

**Electric-types**: Rotom-W and Rotom-H both resist Moltres's STAB combination and can easily take advantage of it with Volt Switch. Thundurus-T and Toxtricity can easily OHKO Moltres with Thunderbolt and Overdrive respectively. (typically low viability pokemon should avoid being mentioned, so I'm cutting out toxtricity)

**Water-types**: Primarina, Swampert, and Slowking can all tank Moltres's attacks and deal big damage back with their STAB attacks, though the latter two do not like taking a Toxic. Keldeo can outspeed Moltres and OHKO it with Hydro Pump, but it cannot switch into a Hurricane.

[OVERVIEW]

  • An incredibly good typing that can both offensively pressure tier staples like Amoonguss, Celesteela, and Tangrowth and offer defensive utility against threats like Aegislash and Excadrill, an excellent ability in Flame Body that can punish U-turn users like Zarude and Jirachi, and access to moves such as U-turn, Defog, and Toxic allow Moltres to serve as a solid offensive pivot. Make sure to bring up its utility as a scizor check here too. Think this point about these moves allowing it to be an offensive pivot fall slightly short, its mainly u-turn that lets it do this, if anything running Defog actually heavily reduces its ability to be an offensive pivot. Toxic stuff can simply be melded down into the set below.
  • Moltres can also function as a solid support Pokemon with its Mystical Fire + Toxic set, wearing down Pokemon like Slowking, and Rotom-W to better support teammates like Mamoswine. should mention hippowdon here too being worn down and crippled. would talk a little more about how this set allows moltres to play a more defensive role while being extremely difficult to switch into, between being able to generate powerful offensive momentum, c rippling stuff, and weakening switchins like Nihilego and Primarina to be more comfortable to pivot into.
  • Heavy-Duty Boots greatly improve Moltres's efficiency at this role, as it can now avoid Stealth Rock damage and have much more longevity overall. don't think this needs its own point, can just be merged into the point below.
  • However, Moltres is incredibly reliant on its Heavy-Duty Boots, making it extremely susceptible to Knock Off from Pokemon like Mamoswine and Tangrowth. Mention how much of a double sword this is into the scizor matchup due to the prevalence of Knock off from it.
  • Moltres also suffers from poor matchups against many of the tier's threats, such as Nihilego, Primarina, and Thundurus-T, making it even more complicated to get Moltres onto the field successfully. does it really have a poor thundy matchup especially, thundy doens't really like switching into it at all? primarina still isn't super reliable or safe into it either due to hurricane. These two especially would be better painted as poor matchups if you made sure to talk about how moltres is usually switching into u-turn pivots like zarude and scizor that can open up doors for these dangerous pokemon to abuse moltres. I think mentioning that it can struggle a little on its own into SpD Hippo is a point worth mentioning too alongside Nihilego, especially with its reliance on Hurricane's poor accuracy vs it and getting really worn down by Sand chip and potential Toxic.
  • Moltres's vulnerable Speed tier and susceptibility to Rock-type coverage additionally hinders its ability to properly check certain Pokemon, such as Excadrill and Tapu Bulu.

Paragraph 2
  • Moltres works best on bulky offense, balance, and VoltTurn teams that appreciate insurance against the wide variety of threats it checks.
  • Knock Off absorbers, such as Cobalion and Amoonguss, help alleviate Moltres's biggest concern by letting it keep its Heavy-Duty Boots. Cobalion is a particularly good partner for Moltres, as it forms a VoltTurn core with it and checks Nihilego and Chansey. can mention these two's ability to appropriately check pivot scizor sets as the primary switch ins, letting moltres be more careful about keeping its boots, while moltres nicely covers any SD sets that can potentially break through them.
  • Water- and Grass-types, such as Swampert, Slowking, and Zarude, make fantastic partners for Moltres, as they can take care of Rock-types like Lycanroc-D and Nihilego for Moltres while also forming a momentum core with it. In return, Moltres can take care of Pokemon such as Tapu Bulu and Skarmory that check these Water- and Grass-types. An important aspect of zarude that's been glossed over here is that it covers SubTox Aegi sets very well for Moltres which is greatly appreciated as Moltres doesn't want to serve as the primary aegi switch in really. Can mention how Moltres can help cover the matchup vs SD Ks sets in return.
  • Entry hazard support from Pokemon such as Swampert and Nihilego is useful for helping Moltres to break through Slowking. These Pokemon can also check Thundurus-T for Moltres.
  • Physical wallbreakers, such as Zygarde-10% and Conkeldurr, pair very well with Moltres, as they can break through special walls like Chansey and overwhelm shared checks like Slowking for Moltres. The former is an especially good partner, as it can revenge kill faster threats such as Nihilego and Lycanroc-D that scare out Moltres.
  • scizor is a big one to bring up for VoltTurn cores, noting in particular that it pressures stuff like chansey / Slowking / Nihilego and brings in Amoong / skarm etc.
  • would like to see more focus on stuff that can help overwhelm spdef hippowdon, noting that while moltres has the potential to break through it it appreciates hippowdon being worn down / crippled by teammates. Also would like to see mention of other options for hazard removal that can be paired with moltres to help it deal with the knock off issue, such as exca who can help check nihilego.

You aren't using it to force them out at all, as they are still checks to Moltres (Nihilego is the #1 mention that should be here too). What Mfire does is to weaken your switch-ins so that you can more comfortably bring checks into them.
  • Toxic cripples Pokemon like Slowking, hippowdon Rhyperior and Rotom-W that are otherwise excellent counters to Moltres.
  • U-turn allows Moltres to build up momentum against Pokemon like Swampert and Zygarde-10% that aren't as affected by Mystical Fire. Again this entirely misses the point of this set. It's not about covering things that aren't effected by mystical fire but building an appropriate array of moves to click for moltres, that suit the various situations you are in. U-turn is a nice midground option in general for moltres that helps it build momentum into anything, its still a much more appealing option into stuff like Prim and Nihilego than Mfire too, but Mfire is a midground option when you are in situations where you preferably want to attack, eg. vs Amoonguss, that covers bases well. The prose in this section needs to be updated to reflect how a lot of the point of this sets movesets is for everything to mitigate the situations of stuff being brought into molt, but how the different moves appropriately cover it. Both your examples for isntance here still get effected by Toxic, and Zygarde wouldn't even want to switch into an unrevealed moltres at all really except in the worst case scenario. U-turn is primarily to allow moltres to maintain momentum and generate chances for various teammates.
  • 252 HP EVs allow Moltres to stay in on and Toxic Slowking, not the primary reason in the slightest, as well as giving it more bulk to better answer Zarude. this is the important point, just bringing up how it allows it to sponge hits from zarude, scizor etc as comfortably as possible, especially in the presence of sand.

Paragraph 2
  • Moltres works well on balance and defensive teams that appreciate its ability to soften up special attackers while also acting as an offensive pivot.
  • Defensive walls, such as Tangrowth and Swampert, appreciate Moltres hampering threats like the aforemention Hydriegon and Primarina and making it much easier for them to tank their attacks. This is fine but there should be an example of something swampert switches into here if you are going to use it as an example. These particular Pokemon also form a FireWaterGrass core with Moltres and check Electric- and Water-types like Thundurus-T, Rotom-W, and Keldeo for it. realisticaly its just tangrowth doing all of this here and not swampert particularly, swampert mention is fine but there should be some actual justification of the reason to run it with moltres here as this whole paragraph only talks about things tangrowth is doing with no examples at all for swampert. makes me wonder if you arent better off just mentioning things like primarina, hippowdon, amoonguss etc here. (honestly making this point just about tang + amoong would be absolutely fine and talking about the support into stuff like prim keld thund etc)
  • Mamoswine makes a fantastic partner for Moltres, as it greatly appreciates threats like Rotom-W and Slowking being crippled by Toxic, and it can take advantage of this to make progress against bulkier teams, which Moltres cannot do. can mention about how moltres checks scizor for you too. Can also mention like Zygarde or something here too to give another example since it appreciates stuff like slowking / hippowdon being toxic'd and worn down.
  • Fairy-types, like Primarina, Hatterene, and Togekiss, can help take care of Dragon-types like Hydriegon, Salamence, and Zygarde-10% that Moltres struggles to deal with. not really any zyg checks mentioned here particularly outside of togekiss who is fairly niche. In return, Moltres can check threats to the former like Zarude and cripple Slowking for the latter two. Slowking isn't really changed here for Hatterene, its set up fodder and all it can do is teleport out into something like scizor / specs aegi that actually are issues for you, which being toxic'd wont remotely stop.
  • Knock Off absorbers, such as Amoonguss and Cobalion, help maintain Moltres's longevity by allowing it to keep its Heavy-Duty Boots. incorporate mentions of these as scizor checks.
  • bring up physical walls like hippowdon and skarmory as checks to stuff like lycan, coba, zyg, bring up hippos support as a thundy / mence etc check in process.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

  • Scorching Sands can be used to deal big damage to Rock-types such as Lycanroc-D and Nihilego, but forces Moltres to forego one of its utility moves and is a niche move overall.
  • A Substitute + Toxic set with Special Defense EV investment and Pressure as the ability can be used to cripple and PP stall many of Moltres's counters, such as Rhyperior, Rotom-H, and Rotom-W, but it makes Moltres very passive in general.

Checks and Counters
===================

The former two do fear getting burned by Flame Body, however. Should be commenting on how pokemon that moltres otherwise checks like tangrowth / scizor also can cripple it with this route, making it unable to safely switch in if its team cant keep rocks off.

**Rock-types and Rock-type Coverage**: Nihilego and Rhyperior can easily tank Moltres's STAB moves and blow it back with their own 4x super-effective moves, though the latter does have to be wary of Toxic. Lycanroc-D can easily take Moltres out with Stone Edge. Pokemon that Moltres can normally check, such as Excadrill, Tapu Bulu, and offensive Celesteela, may sometimes carry Rock-type coverage moves, forcing Moltres to scout and make sure they do not carry these moves. Coba should be brought up over steela here, but would need some wording change to reflect that stone edge is fairly standard on it and not a niche option unlike the others, maybe this would require bringing this up in a separate point.

**Electric-types**: Rotom-W and Rotom-H both resist Moltres's STAB combination and can easily take advantage of it with Volt Switch. Thundurus-T can easily OHKO Moltres with Thunderbolt.

Primarina also hates switching into Hurricane which should be mentioned, although it is able to tank hits if needed.

**Specially Defensive walls**: Mention Hippowdon, Umbreon, Chansey here since they didn't get brought up in other categories. Note how this is only the case for specially defensive hippowdon, and how Umbreon/Chansey are still vulnerable to being u-turned on.

Doing a check for this and incorporating scizor and hippo commentary since it's been a while since shifts now. There's a lot of commentary especially on the 2nd set from my end, so I tried to keep this at a more manageable amount of comments to implement, and would like to take a second look after to cover any stuff i've left out and to make sure this has all been implemented well.

Please let us know on Discord if you want any help with any of this, or if there are any issues.

[OVERVIEW]

  • An incredibly good typing that can both offensively pressure tier staples like Scizor, Amoonguss, Celesteela, and Tangrowth and offer defensive utility against threats like Skarmory and Excadrill, an excellent ability in Flame Body that can punish U-turn users like Zarude and Jirachi, and access to moves such as U-turn, Defog, and Toxic allow Moltres to serve as a solid offensive pivot. this sentence is actually horrible to read in structure, would have a look at trying to make this read a bit better.
  • Moltres can also function as a solid support Pokemon with its Mystical Fire + Toxic set, wearing down Pokemon like Slowking, Hippowdon and Rotom-W to better support teammates like Mamoswine.
  • Heavy-Duty Boots greatly improve Moltres's efficiency at this role, as it can now avoid Stealth Rock damage and have much more longevity overall. However, Moltres is incredibly reliant on its Heavy-Duty Boots, making it extremely susceptible to Knock Off from Pokemon like Mamoswine, Tangrowth, and Scizor. what is important to highlight here beyond it just being susceptible to it is that it ends up actively WANTING to check sciz especially, this duality is problematic with it and does force decent removal alongside it or for you to not be overly reliant on it into the mus.
  • Moltres also suffers from poor matchups against many of the tier's threats, such as Nihilego and specially defensive Hippowdon, making it even more complicated to get Moltres onto the field successfully. this makes no sense, it has poor mus vs them but why does that make it hard to get onto the field succesfully? its more about being very susceptible to giving nihi free turns and more then anything the fact that Pokemon it likes to check like scizor / jirachi / zarude just pivot into dangerous threats like nihi / prim / keld that abuse molt.
  • Moltres's vulnerable Speed tier and susceptibility to Rock-type coverage additionally hinders its ability to properly check certain Pokemon, such as Excadrill and Tapu Bulu.

Paragraph 1
  • Flamethrower and Hurricane serve as Moltres's STAB combo, with Flamethrower targeting Grass- and Steel-types like Amoonguss, Aegislash and Celesteela, and Hurricane targeting Fighting-types such as Keldeo and Conkeldurr as well as being able to hit Fire resists like Primarina and Slowking for big damage.
  • U-turn allows Moltres to pivot out of unfavorable matchups against Pokemon like Slowking, Nihilego, and Chansey while bringing in wallbreakers like Tapu Bulu and Conkeldurr in safely.
  • Moltres can run Defog as role compression thanks to it matching up well against entry hazard setters like Excadrill and Skarmory, but it suffers from poor matchups against other common setters like Nihilego, Chansey, and hippo and nihi ar ethe 2 most important ones so hippo should absolutely be mentioned here Swampert and is thus not preferred. Dropping U-turn severely limits Moltres's offensive potential as well.
  • Roost provides Moltres with a method of recovery, which gives it the longevity necessary to check Zarude, Jirachi, and Celesteela throughout a game.
  • Flame Body punishes Pokemon like Scizor, Zarude and Jirachi that try to pivot out on Moltres with U-turn.

  • Water- and Grass-types, such as Swampert, Slowking, and Zarude, make fantastic partners for Moltres, as they can take care of Rock-types like Lycanroc-D and Nihilego zarude isn't really a check to either of these, not a switch in at least to nihi, idk this reads a little weird when the other 2 sound like switch ins but if you tinker with the wording you should be able to fix this. for Moltres while also forming a momentum core with it. In return, Moltres can take care of Pokemon such as Tapu Bulu and Skarmory that check these Water- and Grass-types.
  • Entry hazard support from Pokemon such as Swampert and Nihilego is useful for helping Moltres to break through Slowking. These Pokemon can also check Thundurus-T for Moltres. swamperts not rly that great at it anymore with thundy running gknot so much, i'd keep the mention more to hippo than pert anyway for this since its so much better.
  • Scizor is an excellent partner for Moltres, forming a VoltTurn core with it, pressuring Pokemon that pressure Moltres like Chansey, Slowking, and Nihilego, and bringing in Pokemon that can deal with these checks, like Amoonguss and Skarmory.
  • Pokemon that can wear down specially defensive Hippowdon, like Tangrowth, Keldeo, and Azumarill pair well with Moltres, making it easier for it to pick off the weakened Hippowdon. None of these Pokemon wear down specially defensive hippo at all. the latter two can use it as an offensive entry point for wallbreaking but hippo isn't staying in on those latter two like ever.

  • Defensive walls, such as Tangrowth and Hippowdon Swampert, appreciate Moltres hampering threats like the aforementioned Hydriegon and Primarina, as well as Excadrill, this wasn't relevant even before i changed pert, tang was already an incredible check to it and perts pretty solid into it and making it much easier for them to tank their attacks. ok this really needs writing better because it starts off talking about hampering them like Moltres is somehow a check to them? this is just written bizzarely even when you consider it in the frame of mfire makingt hem come in easier, this is nice and all but its only relevant if they are already checks anyway, so you should be talking about some of the mons that check threats to moltres like hyd, prim, and ESPECIALLY NIHI, and then talk about how mfire makes it even comfier for them to switch in not making it the focus of ur point, talking about how it makes hippo less vulnerable to gknot is gucci too. These particular Pokemon also form a FireWaterGrass nuke this, stop talking about typing's so much everywhere in general too but don't refer to a fwg here especially now that i've nuked the pert mention anyway core with Moltres and check Electric- and Water-types like Thundurus-T, Rotom-W, Tentacruel and Keldeo for it.
  • Ground-types, such as Mamoswine and Zygarde-10%, make fantastic partners for Moltres, as they greatly appreciate threats like Rotom-W, Slowking, and Hippowdon being crippled by Toxic, and they can take advantage of this to make progress against bulkier teams, which Moltres cannot do. In return, Moltres can check Scizor for these Pokemon. this should probably be worded to talk a little more about how it lets them overwhelm them and force some 2hkos and stuff not so much taking advantage of. There is absolutely nothing about how moltres can give some of these wallbreakers switch in opportunities here.
  • Fairy-types, like Primarina, Hatterene, and Togekiss, can help take care of Dragon-types like Hydriegon and Salamence that Moltres struggles to deal with. In return, Moltres can check threats to the former like Zarude and cripple Slowking for the latter.
  • Knock Off absorbers, such as Amoonguss and Cobalion, help maintain Moltres's longevity by allowing it to keep its Heavy-Duty Boots, as well as provide teams with secondary Scizor checks.
  • Physical walls, like Hippowdon and Skarmory, help check Pokemon like Lycanroc-D, Cobalion, and Zygarde-10% that threaten Moltres. The former is an especially good partner as it also serves as a check to Thundurus-T and Salamence just merge this into the previous tang hippo point and make that a bit about hazards too.

qc 2/3.

Please implement this carefully as there is a lot to cover, this will likely need a thorough 3rd check too. Something you need to work on in your writing is to stop listing off type charts constantly, things along the lines of "Water-types beat Ground-types for this Electric-type" etc, its a poor writing habit and bad form to over-use it, it adds nothing of value over just talking about the specific relevant examples and is just extra fluff that can overgeneralise too much in some situations.

I'll have another look at this before I mark it to ensure you actually implement everything properly because I did notice a couple changes Esta added not made. Message here or the discord when you finish. Please don’t procrastinate like you did before

This is pretty bloated for the first sentence, I'd separate these points by discussing in the first sentence how its a solid pivot with its typing and access to uturn then make the next sentence about its access to flame body. Replace Jirachi with Diggersby for their relevance as of now and remove Defog since that's not something you want to add on moltres if you can help it. Moltres can also function as a solid support Pokemon with its Mystical Fire + Toxic set, wearing down Pokemon like Slowking, Hippowdon and Rotom-W to better support teammates like Mamoswine. The latter is especially important, as teams with Moltres often have to run hazard removal so that Moltres can properly check Scizor. Moltres is also commonly used as pivot bait by Pokemon it is supposed to check, like Scizor, Jirachi, and Zarude, letting them bring in and giving free turns to Pokemon like Nihilego, Primarina, and Keldeo that abuse Moltres. Moltres's vulnerable Speed tier and susceptibility to Rock-type coverage additionally hinders its ability to properly check certain Pokemon, such as Excadrill and Tapu Bulu. this is a very janky point. neither are faster than moltres, bulu is very fringe at the moment, and excadrill is not known for running rock slide very often.

General advice, instead of stretching points by stating how certain qualities pressure certain mons and defensively check others, just say that it checks them to condense things easier Access to Flame Body makes Moltres great at punishing the many U-turn users of the tier, such as Scizor, Zarude, and Diggersby. Moltres can also function as a solid support Pokemon with its Mystical Fire + Toxic set, wearing down Pokemon like Slowking, Hippowdon and Rotom-W to better support teammates like Mamoswine. Heavy-Duty Boots greatly improve Moltres's efficiency at this role, as it can now avoid Stealth Rock damage and have much more longevity overall. However, Moltres is incredibly reliant on its Heavy-Duty Boots, making it extremely susceptible to Knock Off from Pokemon like Mamoswine, Tangrowth, and especially Scizor. The latter is especially important, as teams with Moltres often have to run hazard removal so that Moltres can properly check Scizor. Moltres is also commonly used as pivot bait by Pokemon it is supposed to check, like Scizor, Jirachi, and Zarude, letting them bring in and giving free turns to Pokemon like Nihilego, Primarina, and Keldeo.

[SET COMMENTS]

Flamethrower and Hurricane serve as strong neutral coverage, with the latter being able to hit Fire resists like Primarina and Slowking for big damage. U-turn allows Moltres to pivot out of unfavorable matchups against Pokemon like Slowking, Nihilego, and Chansey while bringing in wallbreakers like Zygarde-10% and Keldeo in safely. Moltres can run Defog as role compression thanks to it matching up well against entry hazard setters like Excadrill and Skarmory, but it suffers from poor matchups against other common setters like Nihilego, Hippowdon, and Chansey, and is thus not preferred. Dropping U-turn severely limits Moltres's offensive potential as well. Roost provides Moltres with a method of recovery, which gives it the longevity necessary to check Zarude, Jirachi, and Celesteela throughout a game. Flame Body punishes Pokemon like Scizor, Zarude and Diggersby that try to pivot out on Moltres with U-turn.

Moltres works best on bulky offense, balance, and VoltTurn teams that appreciate its ability to punish Pokemon like Excadrill and Zarude while providing easier momentum against foes like Hippowdon insurance against the wide variety of threats it checks. Knock Off absorbers, such as Cobalion and Amoonguss, help alleviate Moltres's biggest concern by letting it keep its Heavy-Duty Boots. Cobalion is a particularly good partner for Moltres, as it forms a VoltTurn core with it and checks Nihilego and Chansey. Teammates such as Zarude, Swampert, and Slowking, make fantastic partners for Moltres, as they help deal with Pokemon like Hippowdon and Nihilego for Moltres while also forming a momentum core with it. In return, Moltres can take care of Pokemon such as Amoonguss and Skarmory. this is getting a little long so we're gonna have to cut some parts here, im cutting this since you already gave adequate reasons and cause you already mentioned that it can take care of those mons in the overview Entry hazard support from Pokemon such as Hippowdon and Nihilego is useful for helping Moltres to break through Slowking. These Pokemon can also check Thundurus-T for Moltres. Physical wallbreakers, such as Zygarde-10% and Conkeldurr, pair very well with Moltres, as they can break through special walls like Chansey and overwhelm shared checks like Slowking for Moltres. The former is an especially good partner, as it can revenge kill faster threats such as Nihilego and Rotom-W that scare out Moltres. Scizor is an excellent partner for Moltres, forming a VoltTurn core with it, pressuring Pokemon that pressure Moltres like Chansey, Slowking, and Nihilego, and bringing in Pokemon that can deal with these checks, like Amoonguss and Skarmory. this read very awkwardly. I get that this was meant to be moltres dealing with these Pokemon for Scizor but again you don't need to repeatedly state these Pokemon Pokemon that can wear down specially defensive Hippowdon, like Skarmory, Chansey, and Celesteela, pair well with Moltres, making it easier for it to pick off the weakened Hippowdon.

Paragraph 1

Mystical Fire weakens switch-ins to Moltres such as Nihilego, Hydreigon and Primarina, making it easier to bring in checks to these Pokemon. Toxic cripples Pokemon checks like Slowking, Hippowdon, and Rotom-W that are otherwise excellent counters to Moltres. U-turn allows Moltres to build up momentum and generate chances for teammates, such as Mamoswine, to get onto the field. 252 HP EVs allow Moltres to sponge hits from Zarude and Scizor.

Moltres works well on balance and defensive teams that appreciate its ability to soften up special attackers while also acting as an offensive pivot. Defensive walls such as Assault Vest Tangrowth and Hippowdon are greatly appreciated as partners for Moltres, as they can switch into Pokemon like Nihilego, Primarina, and Hydreigon. Moltres can help these Pokemon out with this task by using Mystical Fire to soften the threats up, securing safer switch-ins thanks to Moltres's Mystical Fire. These particular Pokemon also check threats like Zygarde-10% and Cobalion for Moltres, and the latter two can set up hazards to wear down Pokemon like Chansey and opposing Hippowdon. Pokemon such as Mamoswine and Zygarde-10% make fantastic partners for Moltres, as they greatly appreciate threats like Rotom-W, Slowking, and Hippowdon being crippled by Toxic, which helps them to overwhelm bulkier teams. In return, Moltres can provide switch-in opportunities with U-turn and can check Scizor. Fairy-types, like Primarina, Hatterene, and Togekiss, can help take care of Dragon-types like Hydriegon and Salamence that Moltres struggles to deal with. In return, Moltres can check threats to the former like Zarude and cripple Slowking for the latter. Knock Off absorbers, such as Amoonguss and Cobalion, help maintain Moltres's longevity by allowing it to keep its Heavy-Duty Boots, as well as provide teams with secondary Scizor checks. removing this cause you already mentioned it with the previous set

Scorching Sands can be used to deal big damage to Rock-types such as Lycanroc-D and Nihilego, but forces Moltres to forego one of its utility moves and is a niche move overall. A Substitute + Toxic set with an EV spread of 152 HP / 132 SpD / 224 Spe, a Timid nature, and Pressure as the ability can be used to cripple and PP stall many of Moltres's counters, such as Rhyperior, Rotom-H, and Rotom-W, but it makes Moltres very passive in general.

Checks and Counters
===================

The former two do fear getting burned by Flame Body, however.

**Rock-types and Rock-type Coverage**: Nihilego and Rhyperior can easily tank Moltres's STAB moves and blow it back with their own 4x super-effective moves, though the latter does have to be wary of Toxic. Cobalion, a Pokemon that Moltres is supposed to check, often carries Stone Edge, making it hard for Moltres to switch into it. Pokemon that Moltres can normally check, such as Excadrill and Tapu Bulu, may sometimes carry Rock-type coverage moves, forcing Moltres to scout and make sure they do not carry these moves.

**Electric-types**: Rotom-W, Rotom-H, and Thundurus-T resist Moltres's Hurricane and can easily take advantage of it with Volt Switch. Thund doesn't want to switch in cause of Moltres's secondary stab The former two are especially good counters thanks to their additional resistance to Flamethrower.

**Water-types**: Primarina, Swampert, and Slowking can all tank Moltres's attacks and deal big damage back with their STAB attacks, though the latter two do not like taking a Toxic, and the former hates switching into a Hurricane. Keldeo can outspeed Moltres and OHKO it with Hydro Pump, but it cannot switch into Moltres safely.

**Specially Defensive Walls**: Pokemon like Hippowdon, Umbreon, and Chansey can easily tank Moltres's STAB attacks and have reliable recovery; however, Hippowdon greatly dislikes Toxic, and Moltres can easily take advantage of Umbreon and Chansey to U-turn out on them.

Nihi isn't get that HP back too fast since it doesn't have reliable recovery, so I think it's a more appopriate example here.). These Pokemon also check threats like Zygarde-10% and Cobalion, and the former can set up Stealth Rock to wear down Pokemon like Rotom-W and Slowking. Wallbreakers like Mamoswine and Zygarde-10% greatly appreciate threats like Rotom-W, Slowking, and Hippowdon being crippled by Toxic, which helps them to overwhelm bulkier teams.

Other Options
=============

Moltres can run Defog as for role compression thanks to it matching up well against entry hazard setters like Excadrill and Skarmory, but it suffers from poor matchups against other common setters like Nihilego, Hippowdon, and Chansey.

===================

Gyarados can take a Hurricane and use Moltres as setup bait fodder.
