Mr. Mime [QC 0/3]

QC: X / X / X
GP: X / X

[OVERVIEW]

* Mr. Mime is a crucial asset to many Baton Pass teams because of its ability, Soundproof.
* Soundproof and its Fairy typing make it immune to a great deal of common Baton Pass checks: Roar, Dragon Tail, and Perish Song are all blocked by Mr. Mime.
* Mr. Mime also gets access to Taunt to help against teams with Haze, Heart Swap, Stealth Rock, and opposing Taunts.
* Mr. Mime should not be used on teams other than those utilizing Baton Pass.

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

* Baton Pass should be used to switch to a team member better suited to the threat the team is currently facing or when ready to pass the boosts accumulated to a sweeper.
* Calm Mind is primarily used to improve Special Defense while also heavily contributing to the power of the end sweep by increasing Special Attack and adding 40 to the base power of Stored Power.
* Substitute provides a useful safety net that guarantees whatever team member is currently behind it to live one hit, buying time to set up or pass to another team member.
* Taunt is a crucial move needed on Baton Pass teams because of its use against opposing checks such as Haze, Perish Song, Heart Swap, and opposing Taunts.

Set Details
========

* 28 Speed EVs are used to allow Mr. Mime to outspeed Scarfed Yveltal and Xerneas as well as Deoxys-Attack at +2.
* 32 Special Defense with 204 HP ensures that a Substitute will survive a Thunder from Primal Kyogre at +3 Special Defense.
* The remaining EVs are invested into Defense along with a Bold nature in order to help accommodate for Mr. Mime's low base defense, helping it survive physical attacks, especially priority moves such as Extreme Speed or Shadow Sneak.
* Soundproof is a very important ability for a Baton Pass team to have, and is the main reason Mr. Mime has value. It blocks common Baton Pass checks, namely Roar and Perish Song.
* Wiki Berry helps to accommodate for Mr. Mime's relative frailty by effectively granting it an extra 50% health.

Usage Tips
========

* Mr. Mime should be switched into to block Perish Song, Roar, or Dragon Tail.
* If the user expects the opponent to switch to a Pokemon with Haze or Heart Swap, Mr. Mime should also be switched into in order to block the move with Taunt.
* If the opponent has heavy special attacks, prioritize getting Mr. Mime into play to get Special Defense boosts up with Calm Mind.
* Understanding what move to use depending on who is faster and how hard the opposing Pokemon hits is key to utilizing Wiki Berry when setting up Calm Mind. It is sometimes better to use Substitute when Mr. Mime is slower in order to activate the Wiki Berry.
* With at least 2 evasion boosts, a Substitute should be able to be laid down without getting hit after a few tries, allowing a safe Calm Mind or switch to another team member.

Team Options
========

* Scolipede is a powerful team member with access to Speed Boost, Baton Pass, and Iron Defense, allowing the team to farm defense and speed. These boosts allow Mr. Mime to outspeed opposing Pokemon to set up Special Defense before they attack or switch out and have physical bulk to survive priority attacks from Arceus, Mega Rayquaza, and Marshadow.
* Smeargle is arguably the most popular Baton Passer due to having access to every move in the game, along with Moody as an ability. Smeargle can put opponents to sleep with Spore, use Ingrain to keep opponents from using forced switches, Spectral Thief to steal back stats or hurt a Marshadow, or Substitute to farm Moody boosts. Mr. Mime also eases a team's weakness to Roar and Dragon Tail, lowering the importance of Ingrain and in turn allowing Smeargle to be more patient to switch in, increasing its survivability.
* Drifblim is the most viable Evasion passer because of access to Minimize and Unburden, along with its natural bulk. Evasion helps with setting down Substitutes when the Substitutes cannot survive any given move the opponent is attacking with.
* Vaporeon can pass Aqua Ring for increased regeneration, which is useful while setting down substitutes. It also has a defensively effective pure Water typing which allows it to get defense boosts with Acid Armor. Its natural bulk and low speed also lets it act as one of the most effective pivots on Baton Pass teams. Mr. Mime's frailty is slightly remedied by a pivot such as Vaporeon.
* Gliscor can farm Evasion boosts with Double Team against Primal Kyogre, one of the most powerful threats to Baton Pass teams, because of its immunity to Thunder.
* Espeon is the most effective sweeper on Baton Pass teams due to access to STAB Stored Power along with Magic Bounce to handle Taunt and Whirlwind. It can also Baton Pass out of tricky situations back to a more bulky team member.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

* Mr. Mime can be used on Extreme Evoboost teams to help block Perish Song with Encore over Calm Mind.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Mega Gengar**: Mega Gengar with Substitute and Taunt is extremely difficult for Baton Pass teams without Illumise to defeat due to its immunity to Spore behind a Substitute and powerful attacks that can OHKO most team members, including Mr. Mime. Mr. Mime lacks the speed to Baton Pass out to safety, gets trapped by Shadow Tag, and has a weakness to both of Mega Gengar's STAB moves.

**Primal Kyogre**: Primal Kyogre's Thunder never misses in rain, preventing team members from easily setting down Substitutes with Evasion boosts. Its Water attacks OHKO almost all Baton Pass team members. Sending it in later in the game after the team collects Special Defense boosts is not as effective, however.

**Mega Rayquaza**: Mega Rayquaza can OHKO almost every Baton Pass user with Dragon Ascent or V-Create, oftentimes winning the game singlehandedly if Evasion does not cause it to miss attacks.

**Marshadow**: Mr. Mime is weak to Marshadow's priority Shadow Sneak, which hits before Mr. Mime can switch out. In addition, Mr. Mime requires 2 Speed boosts to outspeed Marshadow. Without these, Marshadow can hit Mr. Mime with Spectral Thief, instantly knocking it out and stealing all of its boosts.

**Ditto**: A Choice Scarf Ditto can switch into Mr. Mime before it has a Substitute down and outspeeds with Taunt, forcing Mr. Mime to Struggle twice.

**Necrozma Dusk-Mane/Ultra**: Necrozma Dusk-Mane's Sunsteel Strike OHKOs Mr. Mime and can end the chain if Mr. Mime does not have the required speed boosts to escape.

noticing a lack of downsides here. my understanding is that its issue is having subpar bulk, even for a BP mon, but im not the most familiar with the playstyle here. still, this overview is just too short and lacking in info, the drawbacks of a pokemon are very important to mention
