A toxic mon's analysis by a toxic user.

[OVERVIEW]
* Muk-Alola's solid defensive typing makes it a worthy fit in teams that require an emergency stop to the likes of Lunala, and Mega Gengar; while checking Yveltal, Arceus-Dark, and Arceus-Fairy. Combined with an Assault Vest, it can provide a team with a lot of utility with access to tools like Knock Off, Pursuit, and Clear Smog. Given a Choice Band, it could topple down slow-paced teams with the right choice of moves.
* An immunity to the Psychic typing helps it threaten powerhouses such as Mega Mewtwo Y and Deoxys-A, which are otherwise extremely dangerous threats to unprepared teams.
* Additionally, its immunity to Toxic and the ability to absorb Toxic Spikes in appreciated in any team archetype it happens to be in.
* Regardless of whether it's resisted or not, switching into it will be a pain due to the combination of Knock Off and Poison Touch meaning its checks are worn down much easier.
* However, not everything is great for this mass of toxic sludge, it faces stiff competition from Tyranitar which is both faster and hits harder, while additionally checking Ho-Oh and Mega Salamence; as well as being a more consistent check to Yveltal. To add to its misery, it's weak to the ever-so-present Primal Groudon and offensive threats like Arceus-Ground, Dragon Dance Zygarde-C, and Marshadow have no problem dispatching it thanks to its lackluster physical bulk. It's also extremely susceptible to entry hazards, which slowly takes away its ability to be fully able to check its given target.

[SET]
name: Assault Vest
move 1: Knock Off
move 2: Pursuit
move 3: Clear Smog / Poison Jab
move 4: Shadow Sneak
item: Assault Vest
ability: Poison Touch
nature: Brave / Adamant
evs: 252 HP / 108 Atk / 28 Def / 120 SpD

[SET COMMENTS]

Moves
========
* Knock Off is a useful STAB, removing essential items on threats that really appreciate it such as Leftovers off Lugia, Zygarde, and Gothitelle on the switch while potentially poisoning them due to Poison Touch.
* Pursuit is used to for the likes of Mega Gengar, Lunala, Ultra Necrozma, and Deoxys-A, nailing them on the switch-out while dealing significant damage otherwise.
* The third slot depends on what your team needs. Clear Smog helps against setup sweepers that threaten the team such as Z-Geomancy Xerneas and Arceus-Dark. Poison Jab is a more usable STAB move that deals a significant amount of damage to said targets while potentially having a high chance of poisoning them due to Poison Touch. It's also the best move to use against offensive variants of Yveltal.
* Shadow Sneak enables it to revenge kill weakened threats such as Deoxys-A, Marshadow, Mega Gengar, and Ultra Necrozma.

Set Details
========
* 252 HP EVs combined with 28 Def EVs let it tank an Ice Beam and Superpower from a Rash Deoxys-A.
* 108 Atk EVs with a positive nature guarantee an OHKO on Mega Gengar on switching out while OHKOing with Knock Off.
* The remainder of EVs have been put in Special Defense to buff it up further and take less damage from the likes of Yveltal or Lunala.
* Assault Vest is the item of choice as it helps in checking the mentioned specially-oriented threats.
* Poison Touch gives all of its contact moves a 30% chance to poison its targets, further bolstering its utility.
* While using Clear Smog, it's best suggested to use a Brave nature as it'll amp up Muk's Attack stat while Clear Smog's damage output is unaffected. An Adamant nature can be used otherwise.

Usage Tips
========
* Keeping Muk healthy over the course of the battle as it's not a threat that can be used freely.
* Bouncing off the above point; it's advised as a hit-and-run threat to spam Knock Off early on in the game on expected switches to deprive switch-ins of their items while potentially poisoning them.
* Shadow Sneak is best suggested for revenge-killing weakened threats which might still have a fighting chance against Muk such as Deoxys-A, Marshadow, Ultra Necrozma, and Mega Mewtwo Y. A point to note here is that Muk can only reliably check Calm Mind Ultra Necrozma, while it's shaky against Swords Dance variants.
* Be sure to scout for variants of Lunala, Mega Mewtwo Y, and Hex Mega Gengar that carry Will-o-Wisp as it makes Muk lose its ability to keep them pressured over the course of a long drawn battle.
* The only

Team Options
========
* Necrozma Dusk-Mane can reliably check Xerneas and Arceus-Fairy while taking advantage of the ability for Muk to take care of the likes of Mega Gengar and Lunala.
* Skarmory and Ferrothorn support teams with
* Arceus-Water checks Primal Groudon, Zygarde-C, and Mega Salamence which highly threaten Muk and are capable of downright OHKOing it. In return, Arceus-Water appreciates Mega Gengar off the opponent's side of the field.
* Primal Groudon with a Fire STAB move checks bulky-Steel types such as Ferrothorn which otherwise annoy Muk. It additionally checks Xerneas which can chip at it with Moonblast.
* Additionally, Xerneas helps Muk dispatch Dark-type targets such as Yveltal, Arceus-Dark, and opposing Muk-Alola which otherwise trouble Muk in the long run.
* Defensive Pokémon such as Chansey and Arceus-Fairy that appreciate Mega Gengar off the field make for solid partners.
* Lugia checks and phazes away Swords Dance variants of Arceus, Primal Groudon, and Zygarde-C. It additionally also checks physical variants of Ultra Necrozma not running Rock Blast or Stone Edge. Muk-A in return checks Specially-inclined versions of Ultra Necrozma lacking Earth Power, Dawn-Wings Necrozma, and Mega Gengar in return.
* Using Arceus-Grass can help against Zygarde-C and Arceus-Ground, while Muk traps Mega Gengar in return. Sets packing Fire Blast and/or Stone Edge help against the likes of Celesteela, Ferrothorn, Mega Lucario, and Ho-Oh.
* Team builds that run Mega Slowbro instead of Mega Gengar or Mega Sableye appreciate Muk-Alola's ability to absorb Toxic Spikes. Mega Slowbro in return checks all the physical attackers that pose a threat to Muk.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
========
* In exchange for the bulk provided by Assault Vest, a Choice Band can be utilized with an Adamant Nature and an EV spread of 204 Atk / 180 Spd / 124 Spe. The Speed and Attack investment lets it outrun and OHKO standard Gothitelle with Knock Off.
* Lum Berry can be used to avoid an unlucky burn from Will-o-Wisp Mega Gengar or Lunala and hit them back with a super-effective move
* Fire Punch can be used to catch Steel-types switching in, especially so for Ferrothorn and Lucario which tanks every other hit, as well as gain Attack boosts from Dark-type moves due to Justified.
* Gunk Shot can be used over Poison Jab with a Choice Band to deal massive damage to threats not necessarily a Steel-type or Primal Groudon.
* Poison Fang can be over Poison Jab in Assault Vest to potentially badly poison switch-ins and put them on a timer for the rest of the game.
* Rest with a Chesto Berry can be utilized to get a one-time heal. This is especially in the case where Muk is bound to lose a lot of health early- or mid-game.

Checks and Counters
========
**Ground-types**: Ground-types such as Primal Groudon and Arceus-Ground have it easy as they can come in on any of Muk's moves and can proceed to set up as it won't be staying on in front of these threats without risking an OHKO. Zygarde-C, while it may lose its Leftovers to a Knock Off can still pressure Muk and force it out. Dugtrio can trap it and dispatch with an Earthquake.

**Steel-types**: Bulky Steel-types such as Celesteela and Ferrothorn annoy Muk with Leech Seed and can proceed to stall it out anytime. More offensive threats such as Lead Excadrill and Necrozma-DM can dispatch it off quickly with their STAB move while taking less to no damage.

**Primal Kyogre**: Primal Kyogre can take out Muk easily with its assortment of powerful STAB moves, and Earthquake.

**Physical Attackers**: Marshadow, Mega Salamence, Primal Kyogre, Ho-Oh, Necrozma-DM, and Swords Dance Ultra Necrozma are able to take advantage of Muk's weaker Defense stat and topple it down, while it is unable to much in return.

**Toxapex**: Muk is unable to do much against Toxapex while it can burn and cripple Muk for the rest of the battle thanks to Scald.

First of all I'd like to see more of a formal language in your analysis. There seems to be some need for information to be addressed more clearly and the language you currently use seem to interrupt this to a degree. If these aren't properly fixed the readers may have trouble understanding what the analysis is trying to convey. This is especially crucial in Overview so I'll specify some issues as I go through.

"A pretty underrated threat", "switching into it will be a pain", "However, not everything is great for this living mass of toxic sludge", and "if one-on-one face-off looks obvious" aren't considered acceptable by C&C standards. If you haven't already, I'd recommend you to go read other analyses to see how it should sound like. C&C leaders and many analyses from OU Analyses subforum have formal-toned analyses that aren't too hard to follow along.

[Overview]

Remove Ultra Necrozma from list of things that Alolan Muk checks; the most relevant sets carry Earthquake and the only variant it checks is maybe special Ultra Necrozma lacking Earth Power. Lessen the mention of Choice Band, if not remove entirely from Overview as it is not a main set and is an OO material.

When you address the fact that Alolan Muk faces competition with Tyranitar, mention that Tyranitar boasts superior bulk with sandstorm and has better defensive typing to check Yveltal more reliably.

While Alolan Muk is indeed weak to Ground-types, I'd add a further mention of lackluster physical bulk. This is what allows practically any physical attackers - such as, Marshadow, which you have mentioned - to easily threaten Alolan Muk. Also while hazard chips can reduce Alolan Muk's chances of checking its checks, I'd rather say it is susceptible to residual damage in general. Using AV means Alolan Muk will not be able to recover by itself.

[Moves]

When talking about Pursuit, make sure to mention that Alolan Muk heavily damages them or guarantees their removal (which is the case for Mega Gengar without Will-O-Wisp and Deoxys-A retreating). This is the most important aspect of the move that has to be emphasized. Remove Ultra Necrozma from examples too because it will just KO you first with Earthquake unless it was overly chipped and is in range of that weak Shadow Sneak...

Mention that Poison Jab has significantly higher chance to induce poison (30% for Poison Jab to poison target and 30% from Poison Touch). Also say that this gives Alolan Muk a better chance to 1v1 offensive Yveltal because otherwise Alolan Muk will rely on poisoning Yveltal with Knock Off while combating it.

Mention that Shadow Sneak also picks off Deoxys-A. Deoxys-A is probably a Pokemon that has the highest likelihood that can 2HKO Alolan Muk among other Pokemon that are trapped and Shadow Sneak makes it risky for Deoxys-A to stay in if it wants to press Superpower predicting Alolan Muk to press Pursuit.

[Usage Tips]

Muk will fall to their moves.
How? Neither Lunala nor Mega Gengar will have a good chance to 2HKO Alolan Muk without a sizeable chip damage. Keep your emphasis on aggressively dealing with them though.

* It's advised to spam Knock Off early on in the game on expected switches to deprive switch-ins of their items while potentially poisoning them.
This sounds like as if Alolan Muk can be a front line soldier that can be used a lot to for item removal. While removing item is useful, Alolan Muk should only do this because against stuff it can't trap / lose against, it will just hit and run at best. Maybe add a bullet above about when is the most ideal moment for Alolan Muk to switch in if you want this point to not be misleading.

* Be sure to scout for variants of Lunala, Mega Mewtwo Y, and Hex Mega Gengar that carry Will-o-Wisp as it makes Muk lose its ability to keep them pressured over the course of a long drawn battle.
Alolan Muk's job is to pivot into them because scouting these Pokemon is dangerous. Most of these threats have no way to win 1v1 with Alolan Muk and will at best retreat after taking serious damage from Pursuit.

* (Something about absorbing tspikes and stuff)
. . .

* Muk can be played aggressively against the likes of Yveltal or Arceus-Fairy as they only inch close to a potential 4HKO, while you can freely spam away with Poison Jab. It's suggested that you Knock Off Yveltal's item first and foremost if one-on-one face-off looks obvious
I don't fully understand this. If you are talking about specific matchup, make sure to indicate what will make it safe for players to assume Alolan Muk will have a safe matchup against these threats.

[Team Options]

Re-order the teammates and preferably mention relevant / the most helpful teammates on the top. Arceus-Grass is something I wouldn't mention in a third bullet - probably below more important Pokemon like Primal Groudon and Xerneas.

Some things to be added or fixed:

* Necrozma-DM appreciates Alolan Muk wearing down Steel-types with Knock Off
* Elaborate more on how Primal Groudon benefits from Alolan Muk's presence and how Alolan Muk benefits from Primal Groudon
* Mention that Xerneas appreciates removal of Mega Gengar
* Remove Blissey and replace it with Chansey. It always holds Shed Shell lol. Blobs can potentially run Wish to heal Alolan Muk too.
* In general say many teams appreciate Alolan Muk's ability to check dangerous breakers you mentioned, like Lunala and Deoxys-A, soft check Yveltal, and remove troublesome foes like Mega Gengar. There are potential teammates you can additionally mention for this reason.

[Other Options]

Will-O-Wisp isn't relevant move on Lunala.

Mention that Fire Punch punishes Mega Lucario. It completely shits on Alolan Muk otherwise because of immunity to Poison and it eats Dark-type moves to gain Attack from Justified.

Shift down Gunk Shot and Poison Fang to bottom if not remove them entirely; they have very little reason to be justified over Poison Jab as an alternative Poison-type STAB move.

[Checks and Counters]

**Water-types**: Primal Kyogre can take out Muk easily with its assortment of powerful STAB moves, and Earthquake.
Well Primal Kyogre doesn't beat Alolan Muk because it is a Water-type... maybe remove this point.

Maybe add burn to the bottom because that's what's going to hinder Alolan Muk's trapping utility.

Overall this analysis had a number of confusing bullets. To specify one of them:

* Using Arceus-Grass can help against Zygarde-C and Arceus-Ground, while it traps Mega Gengar in return. Sets packing Fire Blast and/or Stone Edge help against the likes of Celesteela, Ferrothorn, Mega Lucario, and Ho-Oh.
Although I know that it is Alolan Muk that traps Mega Gengar in return, the text sounds like as if Arceus-Grass checks Zygarde-C and Arceus-Ground AND traps Mega Gengar in return... which is not true. Be sure to give your analysis a read-over and make sure readers won't be confused.

Let me know when this has been implemented here or in Discord and I'll take a second look.

Banned deucer.
it's been 14 days and DMDW's input on the analysis still hasn't been implemented, Im genuinely concerned there isn't much interest in this, you barely got this out of WIP after an extended period.

in short, there are a lot of issues still underlying in the analysis before this is up to the standard expected for a QC Check.

DMDW has pointed out the majority but I have a few concerns beside those:

Team options don't seem ideal for the type of archetypes Muk actually fits on, core pokemon are missing. Muk usually works best on Stalls that utilise Spikes and where you'd lack Mega Sableye to prevent Toxic Spikes so an absorber is important (otherwise you'd use Tyranitar), good examples are Skarmory/Ferrothorn (this is mentioned but it isn't very concise and what benefits it actually brings).

Pokemon that have good defensive synergy, while being stall staples are actually missing too like Lugia, Giratina-A etc, A-Muk traps important threats for these. I don't understand why Arceus-Grass is a priority over these, when it doesn't provide a great defensive synergy and really puts a strain on the team to cover anything else.

Proper expansion on Yveltal match ups is something I'd like to see, like why knocking off the item is important against various sets, Yveltal is usually the most threatening mon to Alolan-Muk builds so its important the reader knows how to render Yveltal as much as possible these matchups.

No it cannot.

I'd advise implementing mine and DMDW's input, there's a considerable amount of work to do and I feel you've had more than a reasonable amount of time to do so.

QC Rejected: 1/3

yea this has had too much time given before and after the qc stage and the repeated excuses comes across as either laziness or disinterest in keeping on top of analyses you reserve. the skeleton itself needs a lot of my qc attention to be at a standard i'll accept.

your previous analyses in the past have had similar troubles. if this reaches rejection 3 im going to have to prevent you taking analyses until i believe these issues will stop persisting.

QC Rejected 2/3

After internal discussion, QC team has agreed to add a set involving Lum Berry:

[SET]
name: Lum Berry
move 1: Pursuit
move 2: Knock Off
move 3: Taunt
move 4: Shadow Sneak / Poison Jab
item: Lum Berry
ability: Poison Touch
nature: Adamant
evs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 SpD

As you may or may not know this set aims to provide Alolan Muk's team with better security against Mega Gengar and Lunala (which can be 2HKOed by clicking Pursuit twice thanks to investment). Taunt means Alolan Muk can potentially avoid Goth family's trapping by taunting them while they are asleep. This will make you to do extra work by adding another set so I'll give you an option to drop the analysis if you do not wish to write more. I am aware that you have spent quite a bit of time writing up what you have in OP so it will be understandable if you would resign from writing this analysis.

Please state your will on this.

its been a week since dmdw’s post and the analysis hasnt been touched since aug 22. in other words, none of the pre- existing iqsues have been addressed and it doesnt look like u are willing or ready to add more to the plate.

qc rejected 3/3

and with this, that leaves me left to blacklist you from ubers c&c for the time being. thats 3 analyses that have died due to inactivity and qc related issues.
