OC [Multifaction] Time Travel Mafia - GAME OVER

Discord Link https://discord.gg/YJQvuRq7nv

Hello, and welcome to Time Travel Mafia. In this game, Time Travellers from all walks of life have been drawn into a battlefield where only the last group standing can hope to escape. There are four teams of four players each:

The Heroes, traditionally good and noble characters who use time travel to save others.

The Villains, who seek to control and use time travel as a means of cementing power or influence.

The Scientists, lone academics and inventors who discovered the secrets of time travel and seek to learn about it, or other subjects.

The Wanderers, those whose journey through time is meandering or erratic, controlled by factors they don’t understand or defining the entire arc of their lives.

Rules:

  • All standard Smogon, Circus, and life rules about interpersonal conduct apply. Please be kind to each other.
  • Copying and pasting logs, host information, and role PMs is allowed
  • Unicycle - Each phase is 48 hours, and consists of both a “day” vote and “night” actions, submitted privately. Though the vote is submitted privately, each player’s vote and the overall result will be published publicly with the rest of the update, along with the deaths as a result of night actions.
  • Weak Day Vote - The player with the most votes will not die. They will instead have all of their actions this cycle blocked, all protection on them will fail, and they will be Time Locked. This takes place at a higher priority than every other action in the game, and no role can interfere with this.
  • Periods - Every group of 4 cycles (Cycles 1-4, Cycles 5-8) is considered a “period”. Time travel is only possible within a period, and when the game moves from period to the next, the previous period’s actions, votes, and outcomes are all locked in.
  • Between Periods - Before actions are locked in as a period ends, each faction is given one use of Revision Time Travel which they may use in a special 24 hour submission window. This will be the last window by which actions may be changed in the preceding period.
  • Items - In each Period, each team has a pool of 16 items available to use. These items essentially act as one shot versions of roles. While 4 players on a team are alive, each teammate may use one item per cycle. While 3 players are alive, one player is allowed to use two items. While 2 players are alive, both players may use two items. While just one player is alive, they may use 4 items. All items are refreshed at the beginning of each period, and unused items do not carry over. Once during each period, a team may sacrifice two items to create an extra copy of any item on the list. These are the items:
    • Role Hook - Blocks all of the target’s role actions
    • Item Hook - Blocks all of the targets item actions
    • Persuade - Secretly changes the result of the target’s current day vote
    • Martyr - Directs all of the target’s actions toward you. If an action has multiple targets, only the first is changed.
    • Active Ability Check - Reveals the active ability of the target
    • Passive Ability Check - Reveals the passive ability of the target
    • Track+Item Check - Determines who your target targeted, as well as which items your target chose to use.
    • Watch - Determines who targeted your target
    • Bodyguard - Protects your target from kills
    • Safeguard - Protects your target from non killing actions which are being used by your target’s enemies
    • Info Shield - Protects up to two targets from being targeted by information actions
    • Decoy - Redirects every action targeting your target to you
    • Self BG - Protects self from kills
    • Self SG - Protects self from non killing actions used by your enemies
    • Mayor - Provides one extra vote this cycle
    • Time Lock - Prevents the target’s actions from being revised by Revision Time Travel, and prevents the target from leaving this cycle via Transportation Time Travel. Time traveled actions from other players can still affect your target’s actions.
  • Faction Abilities - Each faction has a one time ability that has wide effects on the game, cannot be divined by any information roles, and does not refresh between 4 cycle periods.
  • Time Travel - There are two types of time travel in this game: Revision Time Travel and Transportation Time Travel. Each faction has access to 3 uses of Revision Time Travel and one use of Transportation Time Travel during each period. Like items, these are refreshed at the beginning of each period and unused charges are lost. This does not include the revision used in the special window between periods, described earlier.
  • Revision Time Travel - A player may, in addition to their normal action submission, use revision time travel to change their action targets and vote in a single previous cycle. They may not change which items they decided to use, but they may freely change the targets of all of their actions, role and item included. Though revision may be used to change votes, this change will not be revised in the relevant previous cycle update. If the change in vote affects the vote leader, the leader of the vote will be revised in the relevant update.
  • Transportation Time Travel - A player may declare that they are using Transportation Time Travel while they are submitting actions. If they do, their actions will not take effect during the cycle that they are submitting in, but instead in a past or future cycle. The Time Lock item and the days’ vote have priority over this action, and prevent the time travel from taking place. In this case, the submitted actions are processed in the current cycle. Assuming the Transportation is successful, however, the time traveling player is considered to be a second copy of the player in the cycle they transported to. They are not the target of anything which is targeting the original copy of the player in that cycle. Rather, they may be targeted by players who are using other forms of time travel, if they guess or are aware of the copy’s existence and make it clear they are targeting, for instance “Transported Blazade”. Transported actions may be revised by revision time travel in future cycles, but the use of Transportation Time Travel itself is still locked in, including which cycle the user went to. A transporting user’s vote will be displayed in the cycle it was submitted but count in the cycle that it was transported to.
  • Updates - Because of the implications of time travel, each update may carry public or private revisions to the outcomes of previous cycles. Updates to the dead and alive status of each player will be provided publicly, and all other updates to results will be provided privately.
  • Death and Rebirth - Even if you’re dead, you may be returned to life by time travel! While the number of living players at the time of action submission affects item allocation, dead players should still submit their role actions if their death isn’t locked in, as they will take effect in the event that they are reborn.
  • Deadtalk - Initially, deadtalk is only allowed between teammates. Subjectively, as we approach endgame scenarios where more information is available, I will announce and allow all dead players to talk to all players again.
  • Archiving - Please add me to all servers and group chats used to communicate information about this game.

NightEmerald is the vote for Cycle 2

There are 3 deaths today

First, we have Mekkah:

Dear Mekkah,

You are Akemi Homura

Origin: Puella Magi Madoka Magica

You are a Magical Girl who uses her time travel powers to loop the same two weeks over and over in an effort to avert a terrible fate. In combat, you stop time so you can collect weapons and fire them at your targets.

Active: Delay. By touching your target, you can adjust the time stream around both of you and disorient them.

Target one player. If this action is successful, your item actions and the entirety of your target's actions will resolve in the following cycle instead of the current cycle. If this ability is used in Cycle 4 of a period, the actions resolve on Cycle 1 of this period, looping back around to the beginning. Effects which target you or or target this cycle still affect the delayed actions in the following cycle.

Passive: Persistence. You will go back as many times as it takes to change history and protect your friends and the city. You will shoulder the burdens of this world that no one else will. And nothing will stop you when you are determined.

Your actions ignore protective roles when used on players you unsuccessfully targeted last cycle.

You are allied with the Wanderers. You win if the Wanderers are the last ones standing.

Second, we have NightEmerald

Dear Night Emerald,

You are The Doctor

Origin: Doctor Who

The eponymous Doctor, you are a Time Lord who has had 15 incarnations in one of the longest running science fiction productions to date. You are a nomad, but you are unflinchingly caring and protective of all life.

Active: The TARDIS. Time and Relative Dimension in Space. You fly around in an old police box that’s quite the capable spaceship and time machine. It’s bigger on the inside.

Target a user, they will be protected from all actions, prevented from taking actions, and time locked this cycle.

Passive: Pacifist. You are moral to a fault. You will kill if you have to, but only if it must be done to save more life.

If you use the factional kill, it is only successful on those who have attempted to kill before or who are in the process of killing. Your kill is the highest priority among killing actions, however.

You are allied with the Wanderers. You win if the Wanderers are the last ones standing.

Third, we have Sunny004

Dear sunny004,

You are The Unmarried Mother

Origin: Predestination

You are a walking paradox of a human being. You have worked many jobs on both sides of the law, been both a man and a woman, have given birth to yourself and ultimately killed yourself.

Active: Varied Skillset. You have been an agent, a murderer, a secretary, a bartender. It’s a lot to keep track of, but you’re a jack of all trades.

Once each per 4 Cycle Period, you can target a player and:
  • Receive their full Role PM
  • Kill that player
  • Protect them from kills
  • Prevent ALL non killing actions from targeting them

Passive: Convoluted Narrative. Your story is told all over the place and you encounter yourself at so many different points in your life that you can’t make sense of it.

You submit your Cycle 2 actions during Cycle 1. You submit your Cycle 4 actions during Cycle 2. Then you submit your Cycle 1 actions, then your Cycle 3 actions.

You are allied with the Wanderers. You win if the Wanderers are the last ones standing.

A harrowing night for the Wanderers....It is now Cycle 3, which ends Tuesday October 1 at 11:00 PM Eastern time, in about 45 hours.

Zorbees is the vote for Cycle 3

There are no deaths today

It is now Cycle 4, which ends in about 44 hours, on 10/3 at 11:00 PM Eastern time

Hello friends, TLDR I am extending Cycle 4 by 24 hours, to October 4 11 PM EST

Not only is cycle 4 complicated to resolve (I am nearly done with this), I have found a mistake in the cycle 3 results. The relevant parties have been updated on this and no public results have changed. I think the fairest thing to do in this case is to extend a day and allow players to make changes with the new information in mind.

Welcome to the long awaited Cycle 4 Update

Well, actually, it's an update in every cycle. The time travelers have all been very busy...

Updated Cycle 1:
Zorbees is the Cycle 1 Vote

There are Two Deaths

First we have Aura Guardian:

Dear Aura Guardian,

You are Heiss

Origin: Radiant Historia

You are the head of the Special Intelligence division in Alistel, and the evil time traveling user that acts as a foil to the protagonist. You are ambitious and ruthless, but you are as single minded in your desire to save your family as you are to gain power for yourself.

Active: Surveillance. As the head of Specint, you have a vast information network to draw on, and the Black Chronicle allows you to keep tabs on your target’s time traveling activities.

Target one player, you will see their full Role PM. If that player time travels via either method this cycle, your team will gain a use of revision time travel usable this period.

Passive: Obsession. Your unhealthy surveillance and controlling tactics come from a desire to protect those you care about.

Each night, you may choose any one player you targeted (with either a role or item action). That player will be protected from killing actions if at least one of your actions targeting them is successful.

You are allied with the Villains. You win if the Villains are the last ones standing.

Then we have Celever:
Dear pulsar512b,

You are Doc Brown

Origin: Back to the Future

You are a frazzled looking scientist who invented a time traveling DeLorean. You didn’t initially get to use it, but you eventually used it to check out the future and settle down in the old west.

Active: Invention. Great Scott! When life gets you down, you find a way to invent something to make it better. You’re constantly improving your time machine and finding ways to use it even when it seems impossible to get power.

Target two unused items. You will create a new one which has the effects of both. This new item expires at the end of the period. If you use this ability in Cycle 4, it will make an item usable during Cycle 1 of the next period.

Passive: DeLorean. This car is one of the most iconic time machines for good reason, the futuristic doors give it style! It’s roomy enough to bring any number of things with you.

Whenever you use revision time travel, you may use an item and add that action to your revised action. When you use transportation time travel, you can bring an extra item with you.

You are allied with the Scientists. You win if the Scientists are the last ones standing.

Updated Cycle 3
CreamyKitty is the Vote for Cycle 3

There are two deaths

First we have Former Hope

Dear FormerHope,

You are The Master

Origin: Doctor Who

You are one of the most iconic recurring villains for the Doctor to fight, and one of the ones with the most intelligence and cunning. You are also a Time Lord and have your own cheap and dirty time travel, but your love of war and control put you at odds with the Doctor, however much you care for each other.

Active: Multiply. During one scheme, you managed to copy your body and consciousness into every living person on earth. This was both horrifying and hilarious.

Target one player, their item action will become a copy of yours (items and targets). This doesn’t affect which items your target used up this cycle.

Passive: Politically Savvy. You’ve run for office on Earth and won! You’ve wormed your way into many positions of power by your cunning alone.

Each cycle, you will have one extra vote for each player you managed to target successfully on the previous cycle.

You are allied with the Villains. You win if the Villains are the last ones standing.

Next we have StupidFlanders

Dear StupidFlanders,

You are The Terminator

Origin: Terminator

Once a villain, the Arnold Schwarzenegger style Terminators became perennial heroes in future installments. You usually need to fend off bigger, nastier Terminators sent by Skynet in the future to kill someone important in the present.

Active: Protector. You are usually strictly assigned as a protective role, and will lay down your life for your charge.

Target a player. Twice during a 4 cycle period, you may protect that player from kills. During the other two cycles, you may redirect all actions targeting your target to you.

Passive: Cybernetic Skeleton. You have a metal skeleton and you are built to last, embodying the slasher horror villain always capable of getting back up.

The first time you would die for any reason, you will survive instead.

You are allied with the Heroes. You win if the Heroes are the last ones standing.

CreamyKitty is the Cycle 3 vote

There are three deaths

First we have CreamyKitty:
Dear CrreamyKitty,

You are Link

Origin: The Legend of Zelda

When Ganondorf laid siege to Hyrule, you weren’t ready, so you used the Ocarina of Time to travel to the future when you would be. This would later cause a fracturing of the timeline that would have generations long implications.

Active: Dungeoneer. You’re pretty good at exploring and investigating a person’s lair, and even better at figuring out where someone’s valuables are.

Target one player, you will see their full Role PM. You will also learn what items they used this cycle, and who they targeted with each.

Passive: Item Adept. You instantly learn how to use any weapon you come across, and are the best in the business at strategically using items.

Your item use cannot be interfered with by disruptive effects.

You are allied with the Heroes. You win if the Heroes are the last ones standing.

Second we have Former Hope

Dear FormerHope,

Cycle 4 Results:
Dead by Daylight is Cycle 4 vote

There is one death tonight, Dead by Daylight:

Dear Dead by Daylight,

You are Lavos

Origin: Chrono Trigger

You are a large alien parasite who fell to the earth 65 million years ago. You cultivated life and influenced Earth’s technological development before rising from the ground and causing an unstoppable apocalypse.

Active: Otherworldly Influence. You are the source of time travel in this world, and you are always watching and manipulating beneath the earth’s crust.

Target a player. That player is Time Locked this cycle (they are unable to revise their current actions or use transportation time travel to leave this cycle), and you may not be killed this cycle by anyone in their faction.

Passive: Doomsday. 1999, the Day of Lavos. All time travelers know when it will happen, but they are powerless to prevent it.

You may never use transportation time travel. Once during each Period, if the factional kill is assigned to you, you may choose to resolve it one cycle later. If you do, your target for the kill will be publicly announced this cycle, and only your death may prevent that kill from happening in the following cycle. Your kill target will also be time locked in the following cycle, and they will be informed of this.

You are allied with the Villains. You win if the Villains are the last ones standing.

It is now Cycle 5, which end in in ~44 hours, on 10/9 11:00 PM Eastern

Players who are dead now are dead for good. If you have strong opinions about the deadtalk rules, please voice them to me.

There are two deaths tonight.

First is Thetwinmasters
Dear Thetwinmasters,

You are Marty McFly

Origin: Back to the Future

You are a kid who’s friends with an eccentric scientist and got swept up in a time travel adventure when you both were attacked. You help your Dad find his confidence, try not to get too close to your Mom, and invent rock music years before its time.

Active: Concert. You know how to play guitar and do a pretty good job with it. You famously played “Johnny B. Goode”” at your parent’s high school dance, confusing everybody.

Target two players, those players will be roleblocked if they are currently targeting each other or both of them are targeting a shared third player.

Passive: Sports Almanac. You snagged this from 30 years in the future, on the sly. It tells you who won and lost every competition for long enough to get fabulously wealthy, but you’d never do that, right?

You will always know the true vote count at the end of every day vote, and you will receive updates if that vote count changes as a result of time travel.

You are allied with the Heroes. You win if the Heroes are the last ones standing.

Second is Zorbees

Dear Zorbees,

You are Donnie Darko

Origin: Donnie Darko

You learned about Time Travel from Roberta Sparrow, a crazy Grandma who walks into traffic while checking her mail. It’s explained a lot of the strange things that have been happening lately, but you’re worried about what the future holds.

Active: Disruptor. You are a troublemaker, and you see a 6 foot tall bunny rabbit who encourages you to start fires and break water pipes. Anyone in the area would be wise to stay away.

Target one player. You will prevent them from being targeted by any information roles. You will also prevent other non killing actions from that player’s enemies.

Passive: Living Receiver. You have inherited a great responsibility which manifests as a vector coming out of your chest. As the living receiver you have the duty to carry the Artifact into the Primary Universe, though you don’t know what that means.

You permanently gain one vote every time your time traveled actions change the public results of a previous phase.

You are allied with the Wanderers. You win if the Wanderers are the last ones standing.

With under half the game alive and 3 factions on 1 living player, I am enabling deadtalk among players.

It is now Cycle 7, which ends in about 47 hours, on 10/14 at 11:00 PM Eastern

Updated Cycle 5 (Bluedoom, Celever, and saberslashser are dead, sunny is alive):
Celever is the vote for Cycle 5
There are three deaths in Cycle 5.

First we have Bluedoom
Dear Bluedoom,

You are the Reverse Flash

Origin: The Flash

You are an esteemed scientist and one of the Flash’s most recurring villains. You are a speed force user with the ability to phase through objects, run really fast, and walk on water, but your distinguishing feature as a speedster is the ability to manipulate time.

Active: Speed Force. In the blink of an eye, you can mess with your target’s actions so quickly they won’t even know what happened.

Target two players. The effects of items targeting either player will be swapped to the other player.

Passive: Hatred. You hate the Flash. Your hatred burns so brightly that it injects malice into everything you do.

Each night, you may choose any one player you targeted (with either a role or item action). That player will be roleblocked if at least one of your actions targeting them is successful.

You are allied with the Scientists. You win if the Scientists are the last ones standing.

Next we have Celever

Finally we have saberslasher

Dear Saberslasher,

You are The Time Traveller

Origin: The Time Machine

You are the unnamed protagonist of one of the oldest pieces of time travel fiction to have existed. You travel to a future populated by the fair, high class Eloi and the savage Morlocks.

Active: Research. Your motivations are pure, and you investigate the future just to see what is out there.

Target a player, you will receive their full Role PM

Passive: Understanding. Your research enriches both you as a person and your understanding of contemporary society.

For each full role PM you have access to, either through roles or death flips, you gain ⅓ of a vote.

You are allied with the Scientists. You win if the Scientists are the last ones standing.

There is one death tonight, Lechen
Dear Lechen,

You are Lucca

Origin: Chrono Trigger

You are a scientist who, in the process of inventing teleportation, accidentally discovered time travel before refining the process and helping the party go on adventures. Your curiosity is infectious and your genius is unparalleled; you invent gadgets, fix robots, and sling fire magic.

Active: Dual Tech. You specialize in combining your skills with other fighters. By imbuing another player's attacks with fire, they present a more formidable threat.

Target a player from another faction, their actions this cycle cannot be interfered with by disruptive effects.

Passive: Thrifty. You are very resourceful, able to make items and gadgets in different eras with minimal materials.

Items you use are not consumed when you use them. They still go away at the end of the period, however.

You are allied with the Scientists. You win if the Scientists are the last ones standing.

It isn't over for the Scientists, anything could happen before kills are locked in, and they may still use the special revision between C8 and C9.

It is now Cycle 8, which ends 10/16 at 11:00 PM Eastern

There is one death tonight, Alice Kazumi
Dear Alice Kazumi,

You are Stocke

Origin: Radiant Historia

You are a soldier and intelligence officer who gets access to the White Chronicle, a book that allows you to change history to avert your own death and the eventual draining of mana from the world.

Active: Assault. You specialize as a utility role, slapping around enemies and grouping them together so your teammates can attack them all at once.

Target two players, all actions this cycle which target one of these players will target both.

Passive: Sacrifice. As you change history and save lives, the bonds you create lend you influence in the coming conflict.

Whenever a player on your team avoids death (a kill is targeted at them and fails), or their death is undone by time travel, you will permanently gain an additional vote.

You are allied with the Heroes. You win if the Heroes are the last ones standing.

Cycle 8 Update:
The day begins with an announcement

There is one death tonight, Mekkah

It isn't over for the Heroes, anything could happen before kills are locked in, and they may still use the special revision between C8 and C9.

It is now the special revision phase, which will last about 19 hours and end 10/17 at 11:00 PM Eastern. I will extend to 48 if anyone asks me to.

It is with a heavy heart that I announce the first eliminated faction, The Heroes. They are well and truly dead, and may not further communicate about the game. Their factional ability was:

Once in the entire game, for this cycle, all kills will fail and all kill carriers will be roleblocked.

It is now Cycle 9, the first cycle of Period 3, which ends in about 47 hours, on 10/20 at 11:00 PM Eastern.

As reminder, the game ends immediately if I ever update a cycle with only one team alive.
