Welcome to National Dex Other Metagames! This is where you will find lots of interesting and unique formats to play that are outside the bounds of standard tiers, but your options are now expanded by the National Dex format, which allows you to use past mechanics, moves, Pokemon, and more! Mix and Mega, Almost Any Ability, and STABmons are some OMs that are broadened by National Dex, which lead to very creative and diverse metagames. We hope you enjoy playing our creative selection of formats!

What's an OM?
An OM is any Smogon metagame that isn't officially recognized by Smogon. They don't have top-level subforums or official Tier Leaders. OMs typically make broad changes off a consistent rule, or small set of rules. For example, introducing a new mechanic (Pokemon have the type(s) of their first two moves - Camomons) or providing access (Pokemon can use any ability - Almost Any Ability). Cartridge-playable OMs don't alter mechanics but either restrict (only Pokemon that can evolve are allowed - NFE) or unrestrict (anything that can be hacked is allowed - BH). Pokemon that become extremely powerful if allowed to have new elements are not granted special accommodation to remain legal by virtue of being exempted from the OM's rules. (i.e. AAA doesn't keep Shedinja legal while denying it the core gimmick of the meta - it just bans the Pokemon). In short, an OM can usually be summarized accurately and completely in a sentence or two.

If you have any question about an OM, feel free to ask the leaders listed above, Discord / Forum / PS! Room moderators, or join the Discord to communicate with others that would be willing to help you out. You also can have live discussion in the Discord and can be alerted for tours in the National Dex Other Tiers PS! Room, so be sure to join that as well!

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How does tiering work?
A: We have metagame councils of members who are willing to develop our OMs; we will also have a derivative banlist of base SV OMs. We will most likely have additional bans, however.

If the councils of the derivative metas wish to take an active role in tiering that will be at their discretion. If not then any decisions regarding bans / unbans / suspects will be made by the NDOM staff, or by whatever council is set up for a particular meta. If you wish to discuss tiering for the specific tiers feel free to do so in this thread!

If you also would like to be a council member / gather up a group of experienced players to become council of a metagame, PM a member of National Dex OM staff so we can discuss and dictate if your application is excepted. You may also apply in the council application channel in the Discord.

Q: Will more OMs be added to the list?
A: It's possible. However, any changes to the list are subject to approval by the OM submissions team, so don't expect it to happen overnight. A solid concept and high levels of interest may increase the likelihood of a metagame being accepted and being put on the list.

Q: So... what exactly should I do in this thread?
A: What you would do in any other meta's thread; post sets, talk about threats and how to check them, post teams, talk about general impressions, etc. However, here you should take care to quote the posts you are responding to and reference specifically which meta you are talking about to avoid confusion.

Q: How do I submit an OM?
A: Be sure to read the guide on how to submit an OM, and send a DM to one of the leaders, which we will then approve or not approve the OM based on activity, solid concept, and decent level of interest. If it's an OM that already exists, we can grandfather it and go through the process more easier.

Q: How can I contribute to the tour code?
A: We'd love to have your contributions! Please contact the National Dex Other Tiers room staff or the National Dex OM staff and let us know. Please check out our standards for code posted right below to see what we expect for all of our tours.
  • Must be functional
    • The most obvious, but also extremely important. We cannot make tours using code that has errors that will cause it to fail. This is easily testable using a group chat.
  • Must be complete
    • It may be tempting to make shortcuts, such as not banning a competitively unviable Pokemon in a long list of Pokemon. However we require all code to adhere to the banlist it is following in order to avoid complex or arbitrary bans.
  • Should be as simplified as possible
    • All of our banlists are subject to be edited and changed as the tiers evolve. A banlist that is neat is much easier to edit than one that is all over the place.
      • Keep like with like (move bans with move bans, clauses with clauses, etc.)
      • Do not have redundant bans or clauses
    • Overall this is subjective and how you choose to keep organized is up to you.
All code can and should be tested at least for validator functionality in a group chat.
If you would like to reserve a miscellaneous OM, please ask the NDOM staff first before doing so.

National Dex Mix and Mega
Mix and Mega is an Ubers-based metagame that allows you to use any transformation item on any permitted pokémon. When that Pokémon then transforms, it undergoes the same stat modifications that the original user of that item does, along with its ability and any type changes that the altered form has compared to the base species. Primarily this takes the form of the Gen 6 Mega Evolution mechanic, with the usual restrictions of one per team removed, but also included are the Red and Blue Primal Orbs as well as the Gen 8 Rusted items.

FAQ:
Q:
How many Pokémon may I Mega Evolve on a team?
A: You may Mega Evolve any number of Pokemon on the same team.

Q: How do Mega Stones that add types function on Pokémon that are given a secondary type equivalent to their primary type?
A: If you use a Mega Stone that gives you a secondary typing that's the same as your primary typing, you no longer have a secondary typing (ie: Altarianite Togekiss). In the case of Aggronite, any Pokémon using this stone will lose their secondary typing (ie: Aggronite Tyranitar)

Q: Why does my Darmanitan-Zen and Palafin revert to its base form upon Mega Evolution?
A: Mega Evolutions cannot be based off of alternate in-game form changes, and hence they revert to their original forme.

Q: Can Knock Off, Trick, e.t.c. be used to remove a transformation item from its holder?
A: A Mega Stone cannot in any way removed from its holder if the holder can Mega Evolve with it, regardless of whether the holder is the "correct" species or not. The same goes for the Primal Orbs and Rusted Items.

Q: What happened to Aggronite?
A: Aggronite remains in the metagame but has updated mechanics that will now remove the secondary typing instead of adding Steel typing. However, Rusted Sword and Rusted Shield do add Steel typing to Pokemon that hold them.

Q: What about native Mega Evolutions (like Tyranitar @ Tyranitarite)?
A: Native Mega Evolutions are allowed if the if the Mega Stone in question is allowed.

Explanation
Here's how the Uber's stats are distributed to each teammate.

upload_2016-8-17_1-13-56-png.67552

You will be able to recognize from team preview how your opponent is gifting their stats, based upon the position of their Uber.

Here's an example:

nMYvqNc.png

In this case, Kyogre is my Uber Pokemon and is occupying slot 2. So, because Ferrothorn is in slot 1, it will have its HP stat replaced with Kyogre's base HP of 100. Kyogre is in slot 2, so nothing receives its Atk stat. Since Clefable is in slot 3, it gets Kyogre's Def of 90. Tapu Koko in slot 4 gets Kyogre's SpA of 150. Landorus-T in slot 5 gets Kyogre's 140 SpD, and lastly, Urshifu-R in slot 6 gets Kyogres's 90 Spe. Where you place your 'God' Pokemon is extremely important in developing strong teams, so do not take this important aspect lightly.

Frequently Asked Questions
What happens when the God has a forme change?
The stats of the god prior to form change are what are used to gift to the other teammates. For example, Galarian Darmanitan-Z's teammates will receive the regular forme's stats and Aegislash's teammates will receive the Shield forme's stats. In addition, the Crowned formes of Zacian and Zamazenta will donate the Hero formes' stats.

What about the Gods themselves? Do they gain any stats?
No, they don't. Since they're "gifting" to themselves, their stats remain unchanged.

What if a teammate has a forme change?
The stats will remain constant through out. For example, if Aegislash receives 100 Def then it will have 100 Def in both Shield and Blade forme.

When will X get banned?
There are certainly broken threats that may appear beyond our initial banlist thanks to the coming of a new generation, however, we don't want to ban anything outright before this has been played more. Topics on the banlist may be re-suspected but only if relevant arguments are brought up throughout discussion calling for such an action to occur. Things will be both VERY bulky and VERY strong in this meta, so you must prepare accordingly. When the time comes we can look at God bans and reciever bans, but again, please defer discussion about what needs to go until we can test it.

What if I don't have an Uber on my team?
The Pokemon in the first slot (HP slot) acts as the God Pokemon. Although this strategy isn't necessarily the most effective option, it can most certainly work to some extent thanks to Pokemon with incredibly high stats, such as with Shuckle.

Is this playable anywhere?
Yes! This is playable on the main Pokemon Showdown server.

How do Zacian-C and Zamazenta-C work as Gods?
Zacian-C and Zamazenta-C are battle-only formes, similar to Zygarde-C, so they distribute the stats of their out-of-battle formes. This also applies to Mega and Primal Gods.

In Convergence, Pokémon gain access to the abilities and Movepools of all Pokémon that share their typing. Moves that are converged can also be passed on through form changes. For example, Garchomp, Flygon (and by extension Vibrava), and Zygarde-10% are all of the tier's Ground/Dragon Pokémon. So Garchomp is able to use moves such as Thousand Arrows, Glare, Roost, and U-turn while also having Aura Break, Levitate, and Rough Skin as abilities.

FAQ:
  • How do Mega Evolutions function in Convergence?
    • Mega Evolutions ONLY use their base form's donors, even if they don't share the same typing. Mega Evolutions can use a donor's abilities as their base ability, but lose it upon Mega Evolving. (ex. Mega Aggron has access to Stakataka's movepool and Beast Boost, but loses Beast Boost upon Mega Evolving. Mega Aggron cannot pull from Copperajah's movepool or abilities despite both being a pure Steel type.)
    • Mega Evolutions as donors function normally. (ex. Spiritomb has access to Sableye-Mega's movepool and Magic Bounce)

In this OM each time you send out a Pokémon it will share its ability with the rest of its team, so the first Pokémon you send out will have one ability and the second two, and so on up to 6 different abilities all active, obviously if you send back the first Pokémon now it will have all 6 abilities.

Below in C & D, these Pokemon are generally considered to have negatives such that they are not considered very competitive choices for your team. However these Pokemon usually have at least one positive quality which makes them usable though nonoptimal. These are generally considered "for fun" but are ranked to indicate their strengths and weaknesses. Please do not spend your energy discussing if a Pokemon in C should actually be in D (or vice versa).

National Dex Camomons
Introduction
It's a fact that many Pokemon in today's metagame suffer from a bad typing. Pokemon such as Charizard and Abomasnow are perpetually hampered by their crippling 4x weaknesses to some attacks. Wouldn't it be great if they could rid themselves of this burden and blossom with a fresh typing? Well, now you can, with Camomons! Each and every Pokemon in the National Dex turns into the types of the first two moves in their moveslots! Undershadowed Pokemon can now experience a new life in this OM. Even popular Pokemon can transform to fit and match the player's desires. Anything is possible!

Rules
Mechanic: Pokemon change their type to match the types of their first two moves in their moveslots. Pokemon with multiple moves of the same type in their first two slots will have only one type. Types are revealed to the player instantly upon being sent out.

Strategy and Preliminary Set Samples
Pokemon with access to moves with desirable types are favored in this meta. Steel, Ghost and Fairy are all incredible defensive types and as such many Pokemon will seek to transform into those types. Powerful offensive Pokemon that primarily rely on one offensive STAB often can be seen transforming into types that grant them STAB on their coverage move. Here are some examples that could look promising:

:sv/great tusk:
Great Tusk @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Protosynthesis
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Headlong Rush
- Play Rough
- Knock Off
- Rapid Spin
Great Tusk base typing is good at abusing 2 really strong moves in Close Combat and Headlong Rush making it a good breaker. However, Fighting + Ground coverage is kinda bad not being able to touch either Flying or Bug mons. In Camomons, this limitation is removed and Great Tusk can fully take advantage from its large movepool to play many viable typings such as
Ground.png
Fairy.png
,
Dark.png
Fairy.png
, etc offensively with Play Rough and Knock Off. It can also better exploit its high physical bulk with moves like Body Press, Megahorn or Heavy Slam to get typings like
Fighting.png
Bug.png
or
Steel.png
Fairy.png
, etc making it an interesting physical check.

:sv/volcanion:
Volcanion @ Leftovers
Ability: Water Absorb
Tera Type: Fire
EVs: 80 HP / 252 SpA / 176 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Earth Power
- Flamethrower
- Fire Spin
- Taunt
Don't you remember a
Ground.png
Fire.png
immune to Water? Yeah that's it, Primal-Groudon! Sure this set is far from it however it also gets this very nice synergy between an available and reliable typing and its ability, Water Absorb. If its initial typing wasn't so good being weak to Stealth Rock and unable to make much damage to Water or Dragon types, this one solves those issues. With such combination allowed by Earth Power, Volcanion is able to check a lot of thing thanks to a respectable bulk while taking advantage of bulky Water like Alomomola, Slowking-Galar, etc and just hitting a wide range of defensive types commonly used.
Water.png
Ground.png
is also quite good if you want to abuse Steam Eruption's power and secondary effect while keeping a lot of defensive utility.

Q&A
Q:
What will happen if I place a move on either first two slots that can potentially change types in certain circumstances, such as Weather Ball and Tera Blast?
A: The original type of said move before it changes types on different circumstances will be honored. For example, Weather Ball is originally Normal-type, and can change types with weather. Regardless of whatever weather condition, the Pokemon with Weather Ball in Slot 1 will make it (part-) Normal.

In the case of Tauros's Raging Bull, Oricorio's Revelation Dance (and for those interested: Arceus's Judgment), these moves are coded as Normal-type regardless of the change of form; thus Paldean Tauros having Raging Bull and whatever form of Oricorio with Revelation Dance will be revealed as part-Normal as well.

Camomons Viability List
Pokemon in each rank are listed in alphabetical order.
[Update in progress]
The purpose of this resource is to classify in ranks the viable Pokemon in NatDex Camomons while showing, as much as possible, the most viable typings.

For Pokemon in the ★★★ TOP TIER ★★★ and ★★★ HIGH ★★★ rank, best type combinations are shown as well as more niche ones (as indicated in brackets).

For Pokemon in the ★★ MID ★★ rank, only typing are available.

And finally, for ★ LOW ★ rank, only mons are presented. Those mons have a hypothetical niche but are generally outclassed.

Viability Rankings/List are/is for information only with the goal to give a better picture of the metagame; you can of course play whatever Pokemon you want with whatever typing based on its movepool. However, from a competitive point of view, this resource will help you identifying the biggest threats in order to adapt your teambuilding while giving you ideas.

NatDex NFE my beloved, here are some mons that popped out to me when looking through this list.

:sv/rhydon:

You’re a pretty big thing heh? Takes out two big threats in Magmar and Electabuzz, Golbat is forced to pivot out, and in general is pretty scary.

Brionne, Frogadier, Toedscool, Thwacky, and Servine are all mons that can handle it. But there are a lot of mons that can’t like Poipole, Metang, Klang, Tinkatuff, and Piloswine.

:sv/thwackey:

This is here and ready to wreck havoc in the tier. Knock Off is a top tier move, especially in NFE, literally removing half the bulk from everything, then it spams that Grassy Glide button.

Magmar, Klang, and Golbat are solid counterplay as they can take boosted Grassy Glides pretty well.

:sv/misdreavus: :sv/naclstack:

The two freed from regular NFE. Missy is an amazing NP user who handily 2HKOes nearly all the tier. Nacl is Naclstack. There are a lot of Water-types running around like Brionne, Frogadier, Quaxwell, and Croconaw, with numerous bulky Steel-types Tinkatuff, Metang, and Klang who all get wrecked by Salt Cure. Also, everything else gets destroyed by it, making it impossible to stay in, making hazards so deadly with no one running HDB. I do think Naclstack is broken in this meta.

:gabite: :raboot: :fraxure: :hakamo-o: :combusken: :arctibax: :poipole: :dunsparce: :clefairy: :duosion: :kadabra: :lampent: :vigoroth: :machoke: :gurdurr: :mienfoo:

These are all some of the best sweeper options in the metagame. Gabite stands out as a very threatening Swords Dance user similar to Rhydon, but isn’t weak to two of the three starter types. Combusken is an interesting (potentially heat) Bulk Up user with Speed Boost.

Overall National Dex NFE looks like a very promising metagame! And I will post about it regularly! (probably)

:sv/kadabra:
Kadabra has been banned from ND NFE!
CouncilzastraVelcrocblinkboyFinal verdict
KadabraBanBanBanBan

Not much to say about it, Kadabra has been a controversial pokemon from the start, and after the recent bans it has proven itself to be over the edge. Having access to an amazing special attack stat and speed tier, alongwith a wide movepool, kadabra could get past even its most "consistent" checks. For instance, Substitute+Psychic/Dazzling Gleam made checks like Sucker Punch users like Pawniard, Linoone-Galar, and Raboot incredibly shaky and prediction-reliant. It could even threaten its better "counters" in pokemon like Klang and Metang by knocking their Eviolite Off, and using the occasional SashCounter set. Overall, it was deemed too fast and powerful for the metagame which resulted in its ban.

initial thoughts on NDGG:

lots of building potential with how many mons and gods there are, i'm really enjoying some of these teams in the builder. Here's some of the stuff I'm taking note of:

Potentially problematic:

Tera ->
tera in this tier makes it incredibly difficult to check the gods. Mons like Xerneas can easily break past their checks with access to Tera, and since you can only really slot one god on each team, its much harder to find counterplay to these mons. Compared to something like SVGG, having such a large variety of gods makes its incredibly difficult to take them on in the builder.

:kingambit:-> giving this thing a speed boost is not ok. it's very easy to slot this thing with a god like Deoxys-N or Eternatus and have it outspeed and threaten the majority of its checks. Pair this with something like Tera Flying and the counterplay is incredibly limited. That said, thanks to this mons incredible statline, it does provide counterplay to some of the other gods themselves, so thats always nice.

:xerneas:-> truth be told, its very hard to slot pokemon to check this thing paired with terastallization. Although Xerneas doesn't really make its teammates all that impressive, it still has decent stats and paired w Tera, there is very little counterplay. I think its a lot easier to check when theres no tera to be concerned with, but a simple set like Geomancy Moonblast Thunderbolt and Substitute is incredibly difficult to stop. I might change my mind on Xerneas, but it just feels hard to deal with in the builder.

Great gods to build with:
:groudon: / :kyogre: -> weather playstyles feel nice, groudon is a fantastic win condition and can enable victini as well as other defensive mons thanks to its solid stat distribution. Kyogre is in a similar boat, though I haven't tested enough of it to know how much better/worse rain is.

:eternatus:-> this mon has godly stat distribution. being able to pass decent defensive stats alongside a behemoth hp/spatk/speed stat, especially when eternatus pairs well with Rotom-W, makes this mon an incredible god. Both offensive 3a/recover and defensive tspikes sets (and in betweens) are great, and I can't see this pokemon being bad at all.

Things I'm curious about:

:calyrex-ice:-> calyrex itself is alright, and feels like you are limiting your god slot a bit, but the amount of stats it gives to your teammates makes it potentially worth running on your teams. I've thought about building fat teams with physdef torn and spdef boosted heatran, while adding a solid breaker in something like SD Kingambit/Garchomp.

:zygarde-complete:-> I have absolutely no idea how to build around this mon as a god apart from giving one of your teammates an astronomical HP stat and abusing zygarde itself being absolutely stupid when paired with tera. (actually i don't think zygarde gives you that 216 hp stat so this might be null and void regardless)

:dragapult: / :gholdengo: -> both of these guys can be incredibly nasty with stat boosts, and I'd have to test them out more to see, but dragapult with breaking power and gholdengo with actual speed are dangerous mons.

Overall though, this tier has been fun to build and play and I look forward to seeing more innovation in the future.

with trios coming in (thats a lie theres over 2 weeks to go), i thought of making an extensive post on ND NFE.

:sv/pikachu:
Pikachu @ Light Ball
Ability: Static
Tera Type: Electric
EVs: 184 Atk / 108 SpA / 216 Spe
Naive Nature
- Volt Switch
- Extreme Speed
- Knock Off
- Grass Knot / Fake Out
probably the best offensive mon right now, thanks to its access to (Fake)Espeed, pikachu proves itself to be one of the best revenge killers of the metagame. volt switch is extremely amazing for momentum and knock off folds ghost types like misdreavus (184 atk knock off is a guaranteed KO on misdreavus after rocks). grass knot cripples ground types like rhydon, piloswine, and marshtomp. probably going soon.

:sv/rhydon:
Rhydon @ Eviolite
Ability: Lightning Rod
Tera Type: Ground
EVs: 100 HP / 252 Atk / 156 Spe (or Faster spreads)
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Stealth Rock
- Stone Edge
- Earthquake
with its terrifying stats, it may seem like rhydon is busted. but in reality... well, it's not exactly so. rhydon comes with a... just garbage defensive typing. its typing makes it weak to grass types (servine, roselia, etc), water types (wartortle, forgadier, etc), fighting types (gurdurr, machoke, etc), ground/ice types (piloswine lol) and just special attacks because of its poor special defense. don't get me wrong though, it's still a good mon, good at compression, but not the best right now.

:sv/piloswine:
Piloswine @ Eviolite
Ability: Thick Fat
Tera Type: Ice
EVs: 172 HP / 252 Atk / 84 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- Icicle Crash
- Ice Shard

Piloswine @ Choice Band
Ability: Thick Fat
Tera Type: Ice
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Earthquake
- Icicle Crash
- Ice Shard
- Toxic
Piloswine is Piloswine. The ground you should be terrified of. Excellent at role compression: being an all in one rocker, breaker, revenge killer, volt blocker and even a soft check to many pokemon in the tier, including fire types like raboot (thanks to thick fat). Choice Band can be run over Eviolite for more breaking power on the cost of not being able to consistently deal with offensive threats.

:sv/frogadier:
Frogadier @ Eviolite
Ability: Protean
Tera Type: Water
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Spikes
- U-turn
- Hydro Pump
- Ice Beam
premier spiker of the meta, a good fast offensive water type. access to u-turn also makes it an amazing pick on voltturn builds (on top of fitting in hazard stack builds as well).

:sv/vulpix: :sv/ivysaur: :sv/magmar:
Vulpix @ Heat Rock
Ability: Drought
Tera Type: Fire
EVs: 248 HP / 252 SpA / 8 Spe

Ivysaur @ Eviolite

Magmar @ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Flame Body
Tera Type: Fire
EVs: 100 HP / 252 Atk / 156 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Belly Drum
- Fire Punch
- Mach Punch
- Thunder Punch
Magmar @ Firium Z
Ability: Vital Spirit
Tera Type: Fire
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Flame Charge
- Fire Blast
- Hidden Power [Grass]
- Focus Blast
sun is good. magmar is a very interesting mon, and BD+mach punch can be extremely terrifying at times. ivysaur can also prove to be threatening at times, but has quite a few issues like being weak to golbat.

:sv/gurdurr:
Gurdurr @ Eviolite
Ability: Guts / Iron fist
Tera Type: Fighting
EVs: 164 HP / 252 Atk / 92 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Defog
- Drain Punch
- Mach Punch
- Knock Off
our offensive defogger. gurdurr boasts high physical bulk, allowing it to act as a soft check to multiple physical attackers (most notably piloswine) while also maintaining longetivity with drain punch. mach punch is a very good form of priority and knock off cripples mons like golbat and hattrem.

:sv/machoke:
Machoke @ Flame Orb
Ability: Guts
Tera Type: Fighting
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Knock Off
- Close Combat
- Heavy Slam

Machoke @ Eviolite
Ability: No Guard
Tera Type: Fighting
EVs: 136 HP / 252 Atk / 120 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Knock Off
- Dynamic Punch
- Heavy Slam /Bulk Up
- Earthquake / Bulk Up
pretty amazing breaker / cleaner, and being a fighting type proves to be very useful.

:sv/misdreavus:
Misdreavus @ Eviolite
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Nasty Plot / Calm Mind
- Hex / Shadow Ball
- Will-O-Wisp / Substitute / Hidden Power [Ground]
- Dazzling Gleam / Draining Kiss
recently banned in regular nfe. misdreavus is an extremely versatile mon of the meta, its ghost typing and natural (special)bulk allows it to act as a sponge to fighting types and normal types as well as makes it bulky enough to set up or make revenge killing difficult. np+dkiss set acts as an excellent set up sweeper.

:sv/golbat:
Golbat @ Eviolite
Ability: Inner Focus
Tera Type: Poison
EVs: 252 HP / 200 Def / 56 Spe
Impish Nature
- U-turn
- Roost
- Brave Bird
- Defog
golbat is golbat. amazing defensive mon, packed with good defenses, and even good attack and speed, alongwith u-turn for momentum, defog for removal, brave bird for grass and fighting types and friends, and roost for longetivity. it's just 1 set among many, golbat can also utilise sets like super fang, poison fang, whirlwind, etc.

:sv/servine: :sv/roselia: :sv/tangela:
Servine @ Eviolite
Ability: Contrary
Tera Type: Grass
EVs: 232 HP / 252 SpD / 24 Spe
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Knock Off
- Synthesis
- Leaf Storm
- Defog / Glare
Servine @ Eviolite
Ability: Contrary
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Leaf Storm
- Knock Off
- Glare / Synthesis
- Hidden Power [Fire] / Synthesis

Roselia @ Eviolite
Ability: Natural Cure
Tera Type: Grass
EVs: 248 HP / 56 Def / 200 SpD / 4 Spe
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Leaf Storm / Giga Drain
- Spikes / Sleep Powder
- Synthesis
- Sludge Bomb

Tangela @ Eviolite
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 Spe
Bold Nature
- Giga Drain
- Sleep Powder / Hidden Power [Fire]
- Leech Seed / Synthesis
- Knock Off
all these grass types are amazing in their own rights, especially defensively. servine distinguishes itself as one of the best defensive mons of the metagame capable of checking threats like pikachu, rhydon, misdreavus, frogadier, etc and has access to moves like knock off, defog, and glare. Contrary lets Servine fully invest in its defenses while still packing an offensive presence. roselia's poison type provides very useful resistances on top of boosting sludge bomb's power, most notably against fighting types. tangela has access to regen and knock alongwith massive physical bulk and good special attack stat, letting it check a lot of physical attackers, including eviolite piloswine.

:sv/wartortle:
Wartortle @ Eviolite
Ability: Torrent
Tera Type: Water
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 Spe
Bold Nature
- Scald
- Flip Turn
- Rapid Spin
- Toxic

Wartortle @ Eviolite
Ability: Torrent
Tera Type: Water
EVs: 80 HP / 252 SpA / 176 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Shell Smash
- Substitute
- Surf
- Ice Beam
defensive wartortle is an amazing defensive pivot of the metagame thanks to its access to flip turn, scald, rapid spin, toxic, great physical defense and a good typing in water which basically invalidates all fire and ground types. shell smash tort is an excellent wincon and its naturally high bulk means it can still soft check threats like magmar and piloswine.

OTHER POTENTIAL POKEMON:
:naclstack: also banned in regular nfe. its a good progress maker thanks to salt cure being basically unblockable (covert cloak over eviolite/z crystal/choice item is not preferred), but its bad defensive typing in rock makes it vulnerable to water, grass, fighting, and ground types, which is not the best thing to have. also not very splashable. not top tier, and is probably lower high right now.

:clefairy: rocks/port/knock/trick... clefairy has them all. good defensive mon, and CM is a good wincon.

:hakamo-o: potential sweeper that has an interesting ability: bulletproof+dragon type, making it amazing vs grass types, that has a slight 4mss unfortunately. swords dance+scale shot makes it get walled by clef because it needs drain punch and substiture to not get damned by gurdurr and golbat (even then it's quite shaky). ddance+z-iron head is good, but lacks the breaking power. if it had the option to run 5 moves, it'd be very amazing.

:duosion: regen+fsight. CM sets are very good wincons.

:electabuzz: fastest mon right now. taunt+volt switch sets are great at wallbreaking.

:hattrem: magic bounce, amazing against hazard stack which are so common now. nuzzle is good at crippling foes.

:linoone-galar: very fast and powerful, and has access to moves like knock off and facade (which works amazingly with flame orb quick feet)

:mareanie: regen water that is also a poison type and has access to toxic spikes and toxic. you judge.

:vigoroth: bulk up normal type, is an amazing wincon and has massive physical bulk. immune to sleep.

:monferno: sd/np sets are good wincons,, especially with z moves (mostly z-flare blitz/z-thunder punch/z-close combat). quite slow for the bulk and typing, though. choice scarf sets have merit.

:morgrem: screens are underrated.

:pawniard: bisharp is (un)fortunately banned. but SD pawniard is still amazing. it has access to sucker punch which somewhat makes up for its low speed.

:rufflet: hustle sets are amazing at wallbreaking. scary.

:thwackey: :swirlix: mentioning these two together. grassy terrain spam is crazy, and swirlix is a wincon like no other that can outright win games.
Thwackey @ Eviolite
Ability: Grassy Surge
Tera Type: Grass

why do you think imposter makes the tier worse? it keeps some of the very amazing offensive mons, especially setup ones in check and is not broken itself. National Dex BH has its own thread, so BH related discussion must not go in this thread. also for questions like this, please use the SQSA thread and refrain from posting one liners here.

Sorry made this my first day of the tier. After I hit top 500 my perspective on imposter has changed

What is National Dex Pokebilities?

National Dex Pokebilities, or NDPoke, is the National Dex variant of Pokebilities. In Pokebilities, Pokemon have all their native abilities active at once!

FAQ
What happens if a Pokémon's Trace is activated?

Trace is implemented to copy a single ability from the foe randomly, as it would in doubles battles.

How does Zygarde/Rockruff work?
Certain abilities are exclusive to differently-obtained and tiered formes, like Ash-Greninja's Battle Bond. Rockruff's fourth ability is actually implemented as a separate forme (and breeds as such in-game), despite not being tiered separately. This means that if you select Own Tempo, it will be the special Rockruff with Own Tempo and no other abilities. Otherwise, it's a normal Rockruff and has all three other abilities. Both variants of Zygarde with Power Construct are coded as separate entities from base ability Zygarde; therefore, Zygarde-10% is allowed in this format and will only have Aura Break.

What about OP abilities like Shadow Tag?
These are banned on a per-Pokémon basis, since it would be challenging and awkward to program only some of their abilities to be enabled. You can see this in the banlist below

Kingambit's ban should come to no surprise for people. Giving an already offensively monstrous wallbreaker and cleaner high speed turned Kingambit into an absolute powerhouse, removing any and all extra offensive counterplay past very few exceptions, like Iron Valiant and Zacian-C, and even those would fail after Terastallization or if Kingambit was faster. Not only this, but Supreme Overlord meant that the few defensive checks it had could be 2HKOed if given a chance to set up. Access to Pursuit meant that Kingambit could lure Pokemon that would otherwise safely switch out to be OHKOed when predicting Swords Dance, and could even be used in conjunction with certain donors thanks to its blistering speed not requiring Sucker Punch. The final nail in the coffin was the aforementioned Terastalliaztion, which helped to reduce its few answers further.

Xerneas, on the other hand, was both a fantastic donor and sweeper, only further bolstered by Terastallization. The large presence of walls that generated setup opportunities, like the Slowtwins, Rotom-W, Ferrothorn lacking Gyro Ball, Gliscor, and Landorus-T, meant that Geomancy was not a hard move to abuse. Furthermore, access to Terastallization made revenge killing and phazing much more difficult. Tera Electric in conjunction with Thunder and Thunderbolt removed Ho-Oh and Gyro Ball Ferrothorn as suitable answers, Tera Steel was generally hard to break, and Tera Fighting and Ground countered Steel-types like Ferrothorn, the now banned Kingambit, and Heatran, with Tera Ground also helping versus the few Fire- and Poison-types in the aforementioned Heatran, Victini, and Eternatus. Even without Terastallization, however, Xerneas is way too constricting, requiring at least one reliable counter like Necrozma-DM, Unaware Clodsire, and Victini, one of which is a god.

While Serperior is certainly strong, we feel that keeping an eye on it in the forthcoming weeks is best as, despite Contrary and a Special Attack donation, its flaws are more than apparent enough to exploit. For one, 111 base Speed is not that high in Godly Gift, and even a donation from Arceus is enough to outspeed without a Choice Scarf. Moreover, its lack of coverage and otherwise average bulk is extremely abusable, limiting it to either being a Choice Scarf support attacker or a Substitute one, both of which have their own major flaws. As such, it stays legal for now.

In case you didn't see the edit to Convergence's challenge code, these mons are not legal for Round 1 of Trios.

1685146793450.png

Garchomp got everything it could've possibly wanted in Convergence: Glare, Thousand Arrows, Dragon Dance, Coil, Roost, Thousand Waves, and U-Turn. All of those new additions make Garchomp a very versatile and dangerous Pokemon that is hard to predict. Its main set (Dragon Dance with Thousand Arrows) is the most concerning since it can effectively setup on everything with its solid bulk and outpace the entire metagame after a single Dragon Dance boost. Thousand Arrows makes it incredibly tough to check since standard checks like Landorus-T and Celesteela are now unable to check it defensively. Sets such as Coil with a defensive Tera like Water or Fairy makes for a very powerful bulky win condition that's far too difficult to handle offensively, being able to abuse checks such as Tapu Bulu and Lopunny-Mega. Other sets such as Thousand Waves with Dragon Dance could abuse defensive staples for free setup while more defensive sets such as Glare let it punish all of Garchomp's potential checks. Overall, it was far too centralizing and honestly too hard to handle consistently, so it has to go.

1685146776037.png

Tapu Lele is a fearsome wallbreaker thanks to its expanded movepool; most notably, Expanding Force. With it and Choice Specs, Tapu Lele was borderline impossible to switch into without a very sturdy special wall such as Blissey. Bulky Steels such as Aegislash or Celesteela were often invalidated by Fire Blast and thus were shaky checks that were simply last ditch attempts to stop Tapu Lele from ripping through your team. Offensive checks such as Iron Treads and Kartana could also be destroyed by Choice Scarf, which also make Tapu Lele one of the best revenge killers in the metagame. On top of those, Nasty Plot sets allowed it to shred nearly everything on the field and was nearly impossible to beat if backed up by Sticky Webs.

1685146750829.png

Walking Wake's ban is kind of a formality since it was technically banned since NatDex OU banned it and I don't think anyone bothered to fix the code. Wake was already a strong wallbreaker with its strong offensive stats and coverage, but its new access to Nasty Plot made it an incredibly dangerous sweeper that was incredibly difficult to check. Sets like Protosynthesis + speed boosting Booster Energy made Wake borderline impossible to revenge kill after it setup with Nasty Plot, with it's coverage and power being able to threaten assumed checks such as Assault Vest Toxapex and that wasn't an Unaware wall such as Blissey or Chansey.

while Dialga and Contrary didn't get the ban hammer, they're still under close watch

1685223196479.png

Many might wonder why Dialga is unbanned, and that's more or less because it received nothing from Convergence mechanics. That said, its a ferocious wallbreaker with Choice Specs that has can pressure strong special walls such as Assault Vest Toxapex (it's chucked by 50% from Specs Draco Meteor WTF) and Celesteela leaving only Blissey and Chansey as effective switch ins to it. As one esteemed user said, "IT'S A DIALGA".

(:sceptile-Mega:)
Contrary is a strong ability with strong abusers such as Hoopa-Unbound and Sceptile. Said Pokémon can snowball with their raw power and them continuously getting stronger with each attack, causing them to win games fairly fast if they're unprepped for. Hoopa-Unbound for instance has access to Superpower and because very difficult to defensively check in conjunction with Hyperspace Fury both boost its defense. On the other side, strong grass types like Sceptile, and more uncommonly Shaymin, can now spiral out of control with its new fire coverage. Mega Sceptile is an interesting case because it can use Contrary as a base ability to break threats with its powerful STAB Leaf Storm and Draco Meteor.

How Convergence changes with the release of HOME

:arcanine-hisui: Arcanine-Hisui :arcanine-hisui:

EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk

- Hurricane
- Calm Mind
- Roost

Articuno-Galar with a Psychic-type move that ALWAYS gives it a speed boost and has high crit chance, combined with Tinted Lens to hit Steel-types and Calm Mind makes this thing a deadly wincon. Would not be suprised if this gets banned.

e: THIS SHIT GETS QUIVER DANCE WTF (edit of an edit: no it doesnt im dumb)

This thing sets up on everything bar like Celesteela. Stone Edge hits Flying and Fire types and Leech Seed makes setup even easier. Leech Seed provides around 1/4 of Virizions HP every turn, passively. Really good mon.

:goodra-hisui: Goodra-Hisui :goodra-hisui:

Not that good tbh, gives Acid Armor, a slight upgrade to Iron Defense, and Life Dew, probably not that useful, to Body Press Dialga sets. mayyyybe a very niche option over dialga for more SpDef but less HP and Defense.

:kleavor: Kleavor :kleavor:

Gives Rock-Bugs Sticky Webbers an un-Tauntable and non-Magic Bounceable way to set rocks but thats about it.

:overqwil: Overqwil :overqwil:

Dark-Poisons have bad stats and no recovery.

:samurott-hisui: Samurott-Hisui :samurott-hisui:

Giving Greninja a way to set Spikes that isnt blocked by Magic Bounce is cool. I doubt you'd want to use it's moves on Mega Sharpedo but its an option.

:sneasler: Sneasler :sneasler:

Gets Knock Off from Toxicroak and has broken move Dire Claw but i don't think it'll be good due to the very common Lando-T, Celesteela, and Toxapex.

:typhlosion-hisui: Typhlosion-Hisui :typhlosion-hisui:

This mon is very impactful as a donater. It gives Eruption to Blacephalon and Infernal Parade as a strong option on Skeledirge and a niche option on Blacephalon. Blacephalon on sun becomes a whole lot scarier due to Eruption.

:ursaluna: Ursaluna :ursaluna:

This shit is scary, Tera Normal Guts Facade 2HKOs Celesteela and you can always Knock Off any checks and U-Turn on any others. There are 0 checks to this. 100% expect a ban on this.

:wyrdeer: Wyrdeer :wyrdeer:

Wyrdeer gives nothing to Normal-Psychics. Psychic Surge Expanding Force Z-Celebrate Meloetta is a really underrated set though.

Overview of the update

Honestly this update is mostly inconsequential apart from a few very scary threats. Excited to see how they play out and what gets banned or not.

Gonna share some thoughts on Home updates for NFE and Pokebilities with a few comments on other formats

Convergence
OrangeX did a solid job with the post above. I could add a few more nitpicks and alternative options, but they seemed to cover most of the new changes. However...

:basculegion: Basculegion :basculegion:
Gets Recover from Jellicent. Adaptability Wave Crash could be decent but Toxapex hard walls it.
This gets poltergeist from Jellicent. Swift Swim sets aren't going to be meta with the damp rock ban but this could be a scary wall-breaker.

Almost Any Ability

While I'm sure something like Tinted Lens or Adaptability :ursaluna: might end up being a thing, many new Pokemon are already fairly optimised with their abilities. Or they don't offer much in the first place.

However, Sneasler becomes even more irritating:
:sneasler:
Sneasler @ Choice Band
Ability: Serene Grace
Tera Type: Fighting
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Dire Claw
- U-turn
- Close Combat
- Night Slash

Sneasler in Vanilla is already a bit too much, but here it might be even more broken. 100% chance to status with a 33% chance to sleep is ridiculous. Imagine Scald but with slightly better odds to screw up your Pokemon. Swords Dance could be another option but Choice Band narrows the decision-making to 2 moves: Dire Claw and U-turn. Serene Grace isn't that good of an ability here but it's crazy how it synergises with Dire Claw.

NFE

:sneasel-hisui: :qwilfish-hisui: :growlithe-hisui: :voltorb-hisui: :sliggoo-hisui: :stantler: :basculin-white-striped:

Meet the newcomers to NFE. The drops shake up the metagame quite a bit with a few being banworthy. I'd love to hear some thoughts from my co-councils and NFE player base on these drops since I'm going to be a bit reserved about their effectiveness. Currently, the council is already voting on some of these.

:growlithe-hisui: :voltorb-hisui:

Both of these Pokemon have potential but I'm not 100% sold on them yet.

Hisui-Growlithe could be a strong wall breaker in the tier with a fairly decent Speed stat. Flare Blitz and Head Smash offer solid coverage and Close Combat does help with stuff like Rhydon. However, every single time you send this Pokemon out, you will have to play a guessing game between clicking your STABs and/or CC. Growlithe's Fire-typing gives it a crippling weakness to Stealth Rock which is an issue when you're forced out by virtually anything faster. 209 speed is okay but any team worth its salt would have several faster Pokemon (even the rare Stall).

Voltorb Hisui is putting in the bare minimum to be a viable Electric and Grass-type. Electric / Grass coverage worked in the old metagame (but has issues now) since you cover basically every Ground type here. Speed is good, so you can invest more in bulk. Static lets it mess with Physical attackers whilst Aftermath offers insurance against Pikachu. I could see Sub Seed set or a pivot set having their place in the current metagame, but it's going to have tight competition with any other viable Grass and Electric type. Its viability hinges on how well it can mess with Pikachu compared to its competition.

:sneasel-hisui: :qwilfish-hisui: :sliggoo-hisui:

Sneasel Hisui will be given a fair shot. Swords Dance have a few splashable checks in Marenie and Golbat. Not to mention that an uncanny amount of Pokemon run Psychic as a good midground coverage option. I think the speed tier could be an issue in the long term but for now, I'm fine with it. Had this gotten Dire Claw, it would have been banned on the spot.

I'm not sure how Qwilfish-Hisui will pan out here. Toxic Spikes are potent in a metagame where most of the Pokemon carry Eviolite and its typing and stats make Swords Dance sets a real possibility. I still think we have a few checks that could stave this off, but Poison / Dark STAB has few good resists in the tier.

Sliggoo-Hisui is an excellent addition to the tier in my opinion. NFE steel types have been severely lacking (I counted 6 potentially viable steels here and one of them was Lairon) so getting a Steel type with good bulky and the ability to soft-check Pikachu is a really nice addition. Not to mention it walls quite a few grasses in the tier like Servine and Roselia.

:stantler: :basculin-white-striped:

Last Respects Basculin White Striped is insane. The raw damage alone is a problem, but pair this thing with spikes and it'll plough through the vast majority of the metagame. The tier had a dearth of Ghost resists as is with your best bet being Vigoroth, making Last Respects free. Aside from that, Basculin enters the metagame at a time when Grass-types have to contend with two prominent Sap Sippers. Most likely, Basculin will be banned outright.

Stantler is a bit of an odd duck here. Calm Mind, Eviolite and Scarf sets are all fine for the most part but they have flaws that keep Stantler in check (such as relying on Tera Blast for STAB). Curse sets could get problematic but it does have issues regarding longevity vs coverage. However, Banded has the ability to outspeed and 2HKO most of the metagame and this is something the council has an eye on at the moment.

Pokebilities

Pokemon with marginal benefits:
:avalugg-hisui: :decidueye-hisui: :enamorus-therian: :overqwil: :samurott-hisui: :typhlosion-hisui: :wyrdeer:

Most of these Pokemon either receive little benefit from their ability, are fine without it or are just not worth a team slot. Decidueye and Samurott gain a minor buff in torrent but both are too frail and slow to make it count. Overqwil competes a lot with fellow Swift Swim sweepers to justify and the hazard-setting niche isn't as relevant when Magic Guard is so good. Hisui-Qwilfish struggles for a similar reason. The rest don't even deserve a second look.

:ursaluna: :enamorus:

Both of these Pokemon are going to be excellent once the metagame settles. Ursaluna appreciates the passive buff Bulletproof provides in negative its weakness to virtually every special fighting move and Energy Ball. Luna could take or leave unnerve but it does mean you can't spam Shuca/Chilan and be safe. Cute Charm is a passive buff to Enamorus making revenge killing it slightly harder, particularly for Sub Bulk Up sets. However, it does mean that special sets essentially have two "luck-based" abilities - since it cannot directly exploit Contrary. Contrary also means it cannot run Calm Mind. The biggest blow though would have to be the freeing of crazy threats such as Chien-Pao, Genesect and Fluttermane (which I don't expect to last at all).

:arcanine-hisui:
Flash Fire and Intimidate complement Arcanine by letting it get in safely. However, Arcanine doesn't stack up with fellow wall breakers and the general inhospitality of the metagame to fire types. Could definitely be an option on Sun though.

:lilligant-hisui:

Another Sun mon. Lilligant Hisui hates the Hustle downside, especially as an all-or-nothing Sun sweeper. Chlorophyll and Leaf Guard offer good synergy but outside Sun both are useless. I could see this having a niche on Sun teams as a solid partner to something like Flutter Mane.

:braviary-Hisui: :kleavor:

Lumping these both here since they have a love-hate relationship with Sheer Force. Sheer Force means that Braviary Hisui will not get a speed boost from Esper Wing and Kleavor will not set up rocks with Stone Axe. Another limitation on how they can exploit Sheer Force is their typing. Their weakness to Rock means that Life Orb comes with an inherent susceptibility to the sneaky pebbles. However, Sheer Force combined with Sharpness and Tinted Lens means that Stone Axes from Kleavor and Hurricanes from Braviary will dent switch-ins hard. Not something I'd run right now but as the metagame slows down a bit, I can definitely see these two finding a place here.

:goodra-Hisui:

Three otherwise mediocre abilities help make this thing a lot harder to remove. Overcoat is a bit redundant with the typing and Sap Sipper ability (immune to sandstorm already, immune to all but 2 power moves thanks to Steel type + Sap Sipper), save for ignoring sleep after Dragon Tailing Breloom. However, not being forced to run either Sap Sipper or Shell Armour makes both pivoting sets and IronPress sets a bit better. Faces stiff competition from Magearna but when that leaves, I can see this reprising some of its roles.

:basculegion:
Basculegion feels like 2 broken Pokemon combined into 1. By its own merit, Last Respects is enough to ban this thing. However, even if we ban last respects, I have a suspicion that Basculegion will still be too much for the tier. Basculin, by itself, is a solid Pokemon on Rain since it chunks a large chunk of the metagame and exploits teams using Water Absorb Pokemon (e.g. Clodsire) as their go-to water-type answer. Now imagine a wave crash spammer stronger than Floatzel that ignores immunities like Basculin. Even with stuff like Flutter Mane running around, this is probably the most overwhelming mon for the tier (arguably worse than Conkeldurr and Excadrill without Last Respects).

In a similar vein, :basculin-white-striped: could be problematic. Unlike other Basculin, it doesn't get any ability to either accentuate or negate the drawback of Wave Crash. But, Last Respects is enough to ban this. On the plus side, if this ends up being broken we can free Houndstone. If it doesn't, ND Pokebilities will be one of the few metagames where you can click Last Respects.

:sneasler:
Another crazy Pokemon but it is far more linear here than it is in standard National Dex. Unburden + Poison Touch is a wild combination, so expect to see Dire Claw on SD Acrobatic sets. The answers to Sneasler are a lot better here than in Standard National Dex with Reuniclus and Clodsire being significantly better and Toxapex fearing only Sleep. But, Dire Claw is uncompetitive so I'd anticipate this thing leaving.

edit: Enamorus cannot run CM. It has to run either AoA special attacking, Mixed attacking or physical sets. Its viability is effectively cut in half.

I wanted to submit a team to be a possible sample/just post a team I've been enjoying (Convergence)

Ursaluna + Tapu Koko Bulky Offense
Ursaluna is a dangerous wallbreaker that has practically 0 switch-ins. Celesteela can switch in but Ursaluna can either Tera Normal to break through it or just U-turn out into Tapu Koko. Tapu Koko similarly has not many switch ins, the main one being Landorus-T, but Landorus-T can be U-turned on to pivot into Ursaluna and do massive damage. Heatran seems like an odd choice but it is a useful check to Contrary Mega Sceptile and sun archetypes and can just do standard Heatran things with trapping, Toxic and stopping recovery with Taunt. Landorus-T is here for Stealth Rocks and a Ground-Flying type for defensive use. Toxic Orb Poison Heal gives it very good passive recovery that is generally more useful than Intimidate and Leftovers. Toxapex gives the team bulky Water as well as hazard removal with Rapid Spin, anti-setup with Haze, and slow pivoting with Flip Turn. It has Tera Ghost to Spin block so you can keep Stealth Rocks and Ferrothorn's Spikes. Ferrothorn can also click Thunder Wave for speed control. The matchup into Belly Drum Urshifu is to go into Toxapex, If they Aqua Step then you Haze, If they Belly Drum, Toxapex will die to a Tera Water/Fighting Surging Strikes/Close Combat but because they do not have a Speed Boost from Aqua Step you can go into Tapu Koko and Tera Grass to survive an Aqua Jet and OHKO back with Rising Voltage.

will post replays when i have the chance
