Welcome to National Dex Other Metagames! This is where you will find lots of interesting and unique formats to play that are outside the bounds of standard tiers, but your options are now expanded by the National Dex format, which allows you to use past mechanics, moves, Pokemon, and more! Mix and Mega, Almost Any Ability, and STABmons are some OMs that are broadened by National Dex, which lead to very creative and diverse metagames. We hope you enjoy playing our creative selection of formats!
What's an OM?
An OM is any Smogon metagame that isn't officially recognized by Smogon. They don't have top-level subforums or official Tier Leaders. OMs typically make broad changes off a consistent rule, or small set of rules. For example, introducing a new mechanic (Pokemon have the type(s) of their first two moves - Camomons) or providing access (Pokemon can use any ability - Almost Any Ability). Cartridge-playable OMs don't alter mechanics but either restrict (only Pokemon that can evolve are allowed - NFE) or unrestrict (anything that can be hacked is allowed - BH). Pokemon that become extremely powerful if allowed to have new elements are not granted special accommodation to remain legal by virtue of being exempted from the OM's rules. (i.e. AAA doesn't keep Shedinja legal while denying it the core gimmick of the meta - it just bans the Pokemon). In short, an OM can usually be summarized accurately and completely in a sentence or two.

You also can have live discussion in the Discord and can be alerted for tours in the National Dex Other Tiers PS! Room, so be sure to join that as well!

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How does tiering work?
A: We have metagame councils of members who are willing to develop our OMs; we will also have a derivative banlist of base SV OMs. We will most likely have additional bans, however.
If the councils of the derivative metas wish to take an active role in tiering that will be at their discretion. If not then any decisions regarding bans / unbans / suspects will be made by the NDOM staff, or by whatever council is set up for a particular meta. If you wish to discuss tiering for the specific tiers feel free to do so in this thread!
If you also would like to be a council member / gather up a group of experienced players to become council of a metagame, PM a member of National Dex OM staff so we can discuss and dictate if your application is excepted. You may also apply in the council application channel in the Discord.
Q: Will more OMs be added to the list?
A: It's possible. However, any changes to the list are subject to approval by the OM submissions team, so don't expect it to happen overnight. A solid concept and high levels of interest may increase the likelihood of a metagame being accepted and being put on the list.
Q: So... what exactly should I do in this thread?
A: What you would do in any other meta's thread; post sets, talk about threats and how to check them, post teams, talk about general impressions, etc. However, here you should take care to quote the posts you are responding to and reference specifically which meta you are talking about to avoid confusion.
Q: How do I submit an OM?
A: Be sure to read the guide on how to submit an OM, and send a DM to one of the leaders, which we will then approve or not approve the OM based on activity, solid concept, and decent level of interest. If it's an OM that already exists, we can grandfather it and go through the process more easier.
Q: How can I contribute to the tour code?
A: We'd love to have your contributions! Please contact the National Dex Other Tiers room staff or the National Dex OM staff and let us know. Please check out our standards for code posted right below to see what we expect for all of our tours.
If you would like to reserve a miscellaneous OM, please ask the NDOM staff first before doing so.

A: We'd love to have your contributions! Please contact the National Dex Other Tiers room staff or the National Dex OM staff and let us know. Please check out our standards for code posted right below to see what we expect for all of our tours.
- Must be functional
- The most obvious, but also extremely important. We cannot make tours using code that has errors that will cause it to fail. This is easily testable using a group chat.
- Must be complete
- It may be tempting to make shortcuts, such as not banning a competitively unviable Pokemon in a long list of Pokemon. However we require all code to adhere to the banlist it is following in order to avoid complex or arbitrary bans.
- Should be as simplified as possible
- All of our banlists are subject to be edited and changed as the tiers evolve. A banlist that is neat is much easier to edit than one that is all over the place.
- Keep like with like (move bans with move bans, clauses with clauses, etc.)
- Do not have redundant bans or clauses
- Overall this is subjective and how you choose to keep organized is up to you.
