Hello everyone, this is my first RMT, and I'm glad it's showcasing a team I am very proud of!
The Team
switching lanes (Greninja-Ash) (M) @ Choice Specs
Ability: Battle Bond
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Hydro Pump
- Dark Pulse
- Water Shuriken
- Spikes
For our first mon, we have a offensive staple in National Dex, Ash Greninja is an absolute menace in the tier; being able to threaten nigh-every structure with it's STAB's + Spikes. It's job is to do exactly that; set-up spikes, and break some massive holes in the opponents team. Some examples of Pokemon Greninja threatens for this structure are Heatran, Swords Dance and Defensive Landorus-Therian, and Reuniclus. Hydro Pump over Surf for the extra power, noticeably OHKOing Specially Defensive Heatran while Surf fails to do so 100% of the time, EVs are a standard 252 Spread.
42 (Clefable) @ Life Orb
Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpA
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Calm Mind
- Moonblast
- Thunder
- Soft-Boiled
Clefable is a potent wincondition in National Dex, setting up on common Pokemon such as Defensive Landorus-Therian, all Garchomp sets, Utility Gliscor, Mega Lopunny, and Corviknight, after a Calm Mind is set-up, Clefable is very tough to break, due to it's Passive Damage immunity, as well as decent bulk. Life Orb turns Clefable more dangerous then you might think, securing unboosted 2HKO's on Mega Garchomp, Kyurem, Toxapex, and Mega Tyranitar, all fairly large threats to the team. Thunder is used over Thunderbolt for the chance to cripple Heatran, as well as 2HKOing Toxapex unboosted.
biology 101 (Toxapex) @ Black Sludge
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 244 HP / 104 Def / 148 SpD / 12 Spe
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Scald
- Toxic
- Haze
- Recover
Toxapex is just a standard defensive pivot and wall for the team, walling Pokemon such as Mega Lopunny, Bulky Volcarona, Ash Greninja, Blaziken, and Soft-Checking Kartana, Defensive Landorus-Therian, Mega Latias, and Mega Mawile. As for the moveset, Scald is used for spreading burns onto Physical Attackers, with Toxic and Haze being used to handle set-up sweepers, and Recover to stay healthy. The Spread is to eat 2 Choice Band Kartana Leaf Blades, and to check Blaziken better, with the speed being for Reuniclus.
practice (Lopunny-Mega) @ Lopunnite
Ability: Scrappy
Happiness: 0
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Frustration
- Close Combat
- Fake Out
- U-turn
Lopunny is a great Pokemon here, with it's unresisted STAB combination, Incredibly Speed tier allowing the team to out offense Tapu Koko, Kyurem, and opposing Ash Greninja, and again; the name of the game with this team is pivoting pivoting pivoting, and a fast pivot fits the bill perfectly. The EVs are standard to max out attack and speed, meaning you can get out of unfavorable situations, such as against a Toxapex or Tangrowth.
retroville (Garchomp) @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Rough Skin
EVs: 252 HP / 136 Def / 120 Spe
Impish Nature
- Earthquake
- Dragon Tail
- Toxic
- Stealth Rock
Now for one of the wierder picks on the team, TankChomp is used on this team to patch up some common MU's that are only soft-checked by other Pokemon, like Kartana, Heatran, Blaziken, Mega Medicham, and Mega Mawile, essentially, I am using it as glue, I chose it over Landorus-Therian as I felt the Dragon-Type was more useful for helping with Pokemon like Mega Charizard Y, not to mention the extra chip because of Rough Skin. The EVs are to creep up on the 270 squad, which is a good benchmark to hit.
4U (Corviknight) @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP / 160 Def / 96 SpD
Impish Nature
- Brave Bird
- U-turn
- Roost
- Defog
Corviknight was added as a another glue, and a defogger to cap off the team, Checking things such as Kartana, Both Garchomps, Mega Tyranitar, Excadrill, and Subroost Kyurem is highly valuable. Pivoting is another very important thing for this team, this team is very offensive, so momentum must be kept at all costs, and i've found that Corviknight does the best job at that, while keeping rocks off so my team doesn't get chipped throughout the game.
Team Building Process:
This is the core I started off with, the idea behind it being Greninja can pressure Heatran, Gliscor, and Volcarona who would generally stop Clefable from setting up, with Clefable checking Toxapex, Lopunny, and Kommo-O which would offensively and defensively pressure Greninja.
After this, I wanted to start adding pivots and defensive backbones, seeing as I already have 2 great offensive presences, with the Blaziken suspect test currently going on, I decided it would be best to add a check to it, naturally I gravitated towards Toxapex as I have experience using it and love the mon for it's defensive qualities. Toxapex also soft checks a ton of mons, great for the offensive team this was shaping out to be.
After adding Toxapex, I came to a realization that this team does not have enough speed, Lopunny was the obvious choice as I had not added a Mega thus far, and this was going to be a very pivot focused team. Lopunny also benefitted from the presence of Greninja due to a large amount of it's checks being grounded, and knocked out of Regenerator range if enough spikes are up, allowing it to win in the long term.
After adding all of these offensive threats, I decided that I would focus on my defensive core for the last 2 mons. I decided on Garchomp to ease pressure off Toxapex, helping it check Mega Latias, Blaziken, and Kartana. Garchomp also provided Stealth Rock, which is invaluble on this team. Checking Heatran was also beneficial due to it's presence in the metagame currently.
For my final addition to this team, I wanted to add a defogger, and more directly check Kartana, considering all I have are 2 soft checks whom both lose to Swords Dance Normalium-Z sets, the obvious choice was corviknight, being able to fulfill these roles while being another pivot and checking common offensive ground types in the tier, as well as currently being the best defogger in the tier, being able to defog against near every rocker in the tier.
Threatlist:

Fightinium Kartana kind of just tears up the whole team, essentially claiming a kill when it comes in if Corviknight is below 80%, you need to offensively pressure it with Lopunny and Greninja.
@
Rockium Garchomp is another breaker meant to be checked by Corviknight, but this specific set is not, claims a kill every time it comes in, needs to be offensively pressured by one of your offensive mons or chipped throughout the game.

That's the team, hope you guys enjoy it, and feel free to suggest some changes!
