Welcome to Break This Team National Dex edition! The purpose of this thread is to analyze popular teams and find cores of viable Pokemon that have an excellent matchup into said team. Hopefully, this project will help out with teambuilding and team analysis practice!

  • Every Tuesday a popular NatDexOU team will be posted by myself.
  • Posting will last 7 days where you will have the chance to post a Pokemon or core or simply discuss the team at hand.
  • When the week is up, there will be a voting period of 7 days in which you decide, which Pokemon or core "Breaks This Team", most effectively. The winner makes the hall of fame
  • On a side note, please don’t be insulted if your nomination doesn’t make the OP.
Rules (Must read)
  • Reservations must be followed up within 12 hours. If not another user may take the core you reserved. Please do not make a habit out of not following up on your reservation.
  • Please post only Pokémon that are viable in NatDexOU. This means they should be listed on the Viability thread. NOTE: With this rule, I will more than willing to exercise leniency but dont take it for granted. If a pokemon backed up by an OU partner is genuinly threatening and a proper explanation is given I'll accept it. Trash like Arcanine + specs florges will get deleted as will cores who function as little more then memes.
  • Make sure the combination of Pokemon you've submitted, have viable sets and can also present itself as the backbone for a well-constructed team.
  • When posting a Pokemon or core, please explain yourself. Calculations and replays tho encouraged aren't necessary, but please have a coherent thought process or reasoning as to why you chose the core you did. Please also make sure to include a moveset and EV spread.
  • If you choose not to post a mon or core but rather just discuss them team thats fine but make sure your points are well reasoned
  • Please be respectful of others

Welcome to Round 1 of National Dex Break This Team! This week we will be featuring a team created by Ox the Fox!
This particular team wreaked havoc on NDLT and brought Hail teams into the mainstream and influenced a VR rise for Alolan Ninetales, Arctozolt, and Volcanion, to B, B, and C respectively.

Ox The Fox's Diancie Hail

:ss/volcanion::ss/ninetales-alola::ss/corviknight::ss/arctozolt::ss/landorus-therian::ss/diancie-mega:

Volcanion, Landorus-T, and Mega Diancie power this offense, pressuring most of the defensive metagame, with Volcanion and Mega Diancie offering excellent coverage to break down Steels, Grasses, Waters, and the like. Alolan Ninetales enables Arctozolt to clean up the holes created by the aforementioned wallbreakers with its extremely powerful STAB in Bolt Beak and coverage. Niche move choices like Toxic on Volcanion to ease the matchup versus Mega Latias and Gastrodon, and Pain Split on Alolan Ninetales to preserve its longevity.

The submission period will last until September 21, 2021, 11:59 pm GMT-4, and I wish you the best of luck building!

Ox’s hail team struggles to deal with mmedi since every mon slower outside of corv gets ohkoed. While mons out speeding it ie mega diancie and ninetales both get ohkoed by bullet punch. The only threat against mmedi is zolt in hail, which is what rotom heat is for. The speed also outspeeds max speed volcanion so just volt out into any of your teammates that can tank a hit.

Pretty obvious, ox's hail is absolutely terrified of gren clicking buttons and relies on volcanion as a hydro pump deterrent, which takes rocks chip from heatran, getting them up vs ninetales and corv whilst discouraging diancie. Heatran also causes problems for hail, relying on volcanion and diancie as short-term switchins.

This standard HO core of SD 3A MScizor + SmackDown Landorus-T completely demolishes Ox’s Hail, as Lando-T basicallu guarantees rocks up, although it fears a Alolatails Lead, but that can be played around with Scizor. Rocks being up guarantees a KO for +2 Dual Wingbeat on Volcanion, and Bullet Punch shreds through the rest.

Mega Diancie is mega good, and it is an awful MU fr ox hail, as it can 2hko or OHKO literally every mon with the right move. Iron head corv kinda helps but if it gets Mystical fired on the switch it'll die to 2, forcing it out so u get rocks up. Lando can pull some cute tricks with intim but it fears moonblast. It getting rocks up pretty reliably is a major annoyance too. U gotta outplay the hell out of diancie If u wanna beat it

This is one of the options stall has to almost nullify this hail ability to win.

Goggle shed was for a long time a pretty bad option, since the main sand setter - ttar - just outspeeds and trap it, while shed in general doesn't wall much relevant things from hippo builds, aside from reuniclus and cm clef. Since hail is now a thing, Goggle shed might be an interesting option right now on stall, since it has the ability to completely wall arctozolt - which is the main threat to stall from that team. Fully physdef invested Iron Defense Corv is a quite specific set that fits well with Googles Shed, or in general in stalls that look for some really strong hazard control, in particular against offensive grounds (Some Volc stalls also features that set, since Volc is mostly meant to check MMawile - which can knock its heavy duty boots -, which is often paired with offensive grounds as rock setters).

The idea behind this core works wonderfully against Ox's Hail ; a well played corv never lets Lando set its rocks (barring haxx or extremely high rolls with hail up), allowing shed to check zolt and Ninetails until the end of the game. The rest of that hail isn't a threat to the stalls where you would find that core (usually Chansey + Sableye stalls) thanks to Chansey, walling MDiancie and Volcanion. Outside of corv, this team doesn't have much longevity ( LoL @ Ninetails painsplitting shedinja), so stall will eventually win.

Round 2: R8 Sample Stall! (With Utility Umbrella Clefable)

:ss/sableye-mega: :ss/clefable: :ss/chansey: :ss/gliscor: :ss/alomomola: :ss/skarmory:
Pretty basic stall concept. Mega Sableye and Gliscor provide hazard removal, with Gliscor being the chosen Defogger for Heatran. Chansey, Skarmory, and Alomomola are a near unbreakable stall trio thanks to the blob’s special walling prowess, the bird’s sky-high Defense, and the fish’s Wish passing and Regenerator. Clefable rounds the team out as the setup stopper while donning a Utility Umbrella to deny Manaphy a sweep without its Z-move.

- Substitute
- Psyshock
- Dark Pulse
- Focus Blast

SubMetro Hoopa is a menace against stall, bluffing a Choice Banded set and tearing through unprepared stall teams. Usually, special sets are dealt with by Clefable and if not Nasty Plot, shut down by Chansey. However, Metronome basically guarantees that Hoopa-U can break Clefable and Chansey just by clicking repeatedly. The only real way to shut it down is extremely aggressive plays if you already know the set, but this is a lot harder in practice as at is a rather uncommon set + aggressive plays against the likes of Banded Hoopa-U means you can easily lose a mon, so it is often not worth the risk.

MEGA GYARADOS + TAPU KOKO OFFENCE

SYNERGY:
(Gonna be a long one because I'm passionate about Stall). That exact stall team (Corviknight instead of Skarmory) has probably been the team I used most to mess around on the ladder, but every time I see a Mega Gyarados and Tapu Koko combination, I know that it is over when he gets behind a Substitute.

Mega Gyarados plays the role of a somewhat bulky Substitute set-up sweeper that tears through the classic stall team. The weakness of the Stall team is that it relies on Unaware Clefable to tank up set-up attacks, but Gyarados’ Mold Breaker ability denies Clefable’s ability to tank its STAB boosted Waterfalls. The Sample Stall team also has very weak offensive power, with the exception of Moonblast from Clefable and Body Press from Skarmory, allowing Gyarados to come in and set up a Substitute with ease. Waterfall is a reliable STAB attack that can nuke Sableye, Clefable, Chansey and Gliscor even without a boost. Earthquake is useful to OHKO the sneaky Toxapex to prevent it from using Haze. However, Crunch is a favourable powerful STAB attack that can deal immense damage to Alomomola and Skarmory once it is boosted. Mega Gyarados will outspeed everything on the Stall team, allowing it to set up a Substitute easily to avoid Toxics or Will-o-Wisps that will be detrimental to having a clean Dragon Dance sweep.

Tapu Koko is a valuable offensive pivot on offensively oriented teams as Mega Gyarados can appreciate Koko’s pivots to keep up good momentum. As Mega Gyarados can easily take care of Chansey, Gliscor, Sableye and Clefable, pairing him with a powerful Special Attacker than take care of Skarmory and Alomomola is useful. Hence, Tapu Koko is a perfect pair for Gyarados, as Alomomola and Skarmory can barely damage Tapu Koko neither live a STAB terrain-boosted Thunderbolt. Stealth Rocks is a problem from Gyarados that limits its ability to create Substitutes or survive Moonblast/Body Press because it has to run the Gyaradosite, meaning hazard removal is mandatory on Mega Gyarados teams. As such, Defog is a potential option on Tapu Koko, though other teammates may be better candidates as a Defogger. This standard Stall team has no pivoting moves, meaning every time the opponent switched out, they must hard switch. Therefore, U-turn is an important move that allows Tapu Koko to always switch out after the opponent has made their switch. A common hard switch on Tapu Koko is Gliscor and Chansey, where you can use U-turn to pivot into Mega-Gyarados to put the opponent in an undesirable scenario and hopefully get up a free Dragon Dance/Substitute. Dazzling Gleam is a nice super effective STAB move that significantly threatens a physically defensive Sableye.

Level: 100
Modest Nature
Ability: Psychic Surge
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
- Calm Mind
- Psyshock
- Moonblast
- Psychic

I think you could just start with lele and claim few pokemon from this stall. Usually for this kind of stall, they will lead sableye and do protect to scout lele moves. So you could just click calm mind and start to sweep. Even if he try to status you, lum berry will save your day. For sake of argument , lets assume your opponent know your Lele is calm mind sweeper, they could lead with chansey .Tbh even if they lead with chansey, there s not much he could do, chansey still get 2ohko from +1 psyshock. The only lead that could be troublesome for Lele from claiming few souls is clefable because clef can start calm mind and have low chance to survive 2 psyshock.
Calcs for clefable:
252+ SpA Tapu Lele Psychic vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Clefable in Psychic Terrain: 229-271 (58.1 - 68.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
252+ SpA Tapu Lele Psyshock vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Clefable in Psychic Terrain: 163-193 (41.3 - 48.9%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery

You also could use twisted spoon or psychinium if you re paranoid against clef.

EVs: 248 HP / 16 Def / 40 SpD / 204 Spe
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Whirlpool
- Moonblast
- Nature's Madness
- Taunt

Tapu fini leads off against this team and gets 1.5 kills minimum. Literally. It beats every single member of the team 1v1, with the only pokemon that can come close to beating it being gliscor and chansey due to the former's poison heal and the later's defense-bypassing seismic toss. The team fails to sufficiently damage it due to their pathetic attacking stats, allowing Fini to repeatedly click buttons to inflict chip virtually for free. They still cleanly lose the 1v1 due to the combination of whirlpool's trapping + residual damage, nature's madness chipping the whole team rapidly, and moonblast finishing the team off, and taunt shutting down recovery or utility moves that stall relies on. The only pokemon that avoids taunt, mega sableye, gets swiftly threatened out by stab moonblast, especially in conjunction with whirlpool's trapping damage.

TLDR: Use this set, autowin vs this team, no prediction required.
