re: Use of a team that exceeds the given budget will result in a game loss for that player.

Someone brought up a scenario to me earlier today of if both teams exceed the budget. It would be rather unideal to coinflip something like this so I've updated the rule to where if someone exceeds the budget, you may ask for the match to be replayed but the opposing side may deny the rematch if they so desire, resulting in an auto disqualify of the person who went over the budget. If both sides go overbudget, they will have to rematch and if nothing becomes of it, it would result in a coinflip. This is more of a gentleman's rule since the main point of this tour is to have fun with Pokémon using a budget and isn't that different than the previous rule. In addition, activity calls won't exist for rematches unless both parties agreed for the rematch to be played.

Most matches played so far have sticked to budget so not much of those affected and this rule would take effect this round.

Welcome to the first edition of the National Dex Economy Tour. This is an unofficial tournament which does not count for the 2021 Natdex Circuit. This is a standard Natdex OU tour with one exception- you have to manage a budget! Players are given 50 points with which to construct a team, while the price of each Pokemon is dictated by their position in the Viability Rankings at the start of each round. In the event that the Viability Rankings are updated the same week as a scheduled match, the previous rankings will be used as to not inconvenience teambuilders.
The prices go as follows:
  • S Rank cost 20 points
  • A+ Rank cost 15 points
  • A to A- Rank cost 12 points
  • B+ to B Rank cost 10 points
  • B- Rank cost 7 points
  • C Rank cost 5 points
  • Unranked cost 1 point
SPECIFIC RULES
  • This is a standard National Dex OU tournament
  • Matches are to be played on Pokemon Showdown!.
  • This tournament will be Single Elimination.
  • All rounds will be Best of One.
  • Because of the nature of the tour, Replays are Mandatory.
  • In the event a replay is accidently not saved and forever lost, the match may be subject to being replayed or in skim cases if both parties can identify and confirm the 6 pokemon on each team, then it may be skipped but please make sure and save your replays.
  • Again, any eventual VR changes will only take effect in the following round.
  • For ease of me recording wins, I would appreciate it if you outline your pricelist for the 6 pokemon you used but is not mandatory.
  • Forms will be treated differently in terms of cost as they are treated differently on the viability rankings. Examples include Garchomp costing 15 points while Mega Garchomp would cost 12 points or Ash-Greninja costing 15 points while Greninja costs 10 points.
  • If someone exceeds the budget, said party may ask for the match to be replayed but the opposing side may deny the rematch if they so desire, resulting in an auto disqualify of the person who went over the budget. If both sides go overbudget, they will have to rematch and if nothing becomes of it, it would result in a coinflip. In addition, activity calls won't exist for replays unless both parties agreed for the rematch to be played.
  • In the case of a Pokemon with two possible forms, but it was not showed in battle, you are encouraged to use /showset at the end of the battle.
Identity

About playing on alts: It is entirely allowed to play on an alt other than your own main forum name, though if your opponent wishes to confirm your identity, you must log on to your main alt to show them you are who you claim to be. This is to prevent people from pretending to be who they're not.

About playing on different servers: The matches must be played on either the Smogtours server or the Main PS! server if both parties agree to that. Other servers are not sanctioned by the host(s) and playing in them might result in your game not counting. Protect yourself from that by playing on Smogtours.

Scouting

On scouting opponents: Going through your opponents replays of tournament and ladder games is entirely allowed, as long as a game is public there is nothing preventing you from watching it. An exception to this is abusing powers granted to you by being staff on Smogon or PS! to gain access to information a normal user wouldn't have access to, which is strictly forbidden.

On leaking teams: Divulging private information about someone's planned team to their opponent is never allowed, and will be heavily sanctioned. Requesting that such information be divulged is also grounds for punishment. Keep your scouting to publicly available information and you'll be fine.

Timer Clause / Disconnections

Timer Clause: As for taking long between moves, if your opponent asks you to hurry up, please oblige. If you are doing a damage calc for a key turn that is one thing, but prolonging every move is suspicious and annoying. Don't do it. Furthermore, Battle Timeout is a rule for a reason. If you run out of time, you lose, simple as that. It does not matter what your opponent says. Do not battle if you think you will have to leave mid battle, and instead reschedule for a better time.

Disconnections: Finally, in the case of a disconnect, the decision is in the hands of the player who did not disconnect. The options are: redo the battle move for move, redo the battle with the same teams but different moves, or redo the battle with completely different teams. If the battle was without a doubt over, they may also take the win. Any suspicion that a disconnect was committed on purpose to redo a match may be appealed to me, and if I feel this happened there will be severe consequences, don't do it.

Scheduling

Use VMs to schedule with your opponent to make it easier for me to track activity calls when needed, and use this guide to ensure you don't lose via activity or coinflip. If you use other methods to contact your opponent outside of VMs, then post in this thread confirming you're in contact with your opponent; otherwise, it's not necessary. Extensions for those with time conflicts will only be given when proof is provided of scheduling with their opponent in the beginning of the round, so do not schedule last minute expecting to be compensated in case of timezone conflicts or be given an activity win over your opponent.
