Welcome to National Dex OU's edition of Lure That Threat! In this project I will give a Pokemon to lure and your job as the participants is to find a way to lure that threat. A lure, also known as techs, can be an unexpected move or pokemon that can beat the ‘Threat’. This allows the other Pokemon on a team to have an easier time carrying out their roles to win a game. Having said that, this project will be a competition to see what creative and effective ideas people can come up with.

Process:

  • Every week, I will post a threat in the ND OU metagame alongside a set and a brief description of how it works.
  • The community will then have four days to nominate Pokemon (with sets) that they feel are effective lures to that specific threat. Each person may nominate one lure per week.
  • Remember to include a short description of the lure and how it works.
  • There will then be a three day voting period in which users can vote on the lure that they believe is the best.
  • Once the voting period has concluded, the lure with the highest number of votes will win the slate, and new threat will be posted
Rules:

  • You must post a set and an explanation of why your chosen Pokemon is a good lure alongside your nomination. Damage calculations aren’t required but are appreciated
  • Please focus on only posting viable Pokemon as lures. As a general rule of thumb, only nominating Pokemon found in the National Dex VR is a good idea. I can still accept a lure which may not be on the VR but has a good description.
  • You are welcome to reserve a lure, but only do so, if you plan on completing the submission.
  • Do NOT ask anyone for votes, offer votes, exchange votes, or try to manipulate the voting in any way. You should vote for the lure that is the most effective for each round. You are NOT allowed to vote for your own submission
  • Have fun :D!

CYCLE 1: Choice Specs Iron Valiant

:SV/IRON VALIANT:

Iron Valiant @ Choice Specs
Ability: Quark Drive
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Tera Type: Fairy / Ghost
Timid Nature
- Moonblast
- Focus Blast
- Thunderbolt
- Shadow Ball / Trick

Choice Specs Iron Valiant is a potent wallbreaker, boasting powerful STAB moves and colourful coverage options, which make it extremely difficult to check it defensively. Furthermore, its great natural Speed stat allows it to force out numerous threats in the tier like M-Medicham and Ogerpon-W naturally and mons like Scarfed Urshifu-Rapid-Strike , Scarfed Landorus-T in Electric Terrain. Thunderbolt provides good coverage against Corviknight and Toxapex, having the ability to OHKO them with minor chip. Tera Ghost Shadow Ball allows Iron Valiant to 2HKO Slowking-G, while trick allows it to shutdown defensive checks like Clodsire.
What lures can you build? Post them here to see who wins!

Submissions End July 24th!

I will give some love to a set Ineros put me onto:

Serperior @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Contrary
Tera Type: Dragon
EVs: 208 HP / 48 Def / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Leaf Storm
- Glare
- Taunt
- Defog

Defensive Serp isn't really a specific lure for Iron Valiant but rather an in general lure that can cover this decently without even adapting the set:
https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen9nationaldex-2165078695

However, you need to decide how much you need to invest it as tera fairy hits a bit too hard.
252 SpA Choice Specs Tera Fairy Iron Valiant Moonblast vs. 208 HP / 0 SpD Serperior: 306-362 (89.2 - 105.5%) -- 31.3% chance to OHKO

This spread would be more specific to this valiant as well as some others, easy change but a bit less meta relevant with Shifu and Ogerpon around:

Serperior @ Leftovers
Ability: Contrary
Tera Type: Steel
EVs: 200 HP / 56 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Leaf Storm
- Glare
- Leech Seed/Hidden Power Fire/Taunt
- Substitute/Defog

252 SpA Choice Specs Tera Fairy Iron Valiant Moonblast vs. 200 HP / 56 SpD Serperior: 288-340 (84.4 - 99.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Here I opt for surviving from full as well as tera steel incase hazards or chip, as well as sub because it compliments tera steel's resistance to U-Turn.

Depending on your team taunt and defog benefit more pressure orientated teams. Lastly leftovers which is more beneficial then helmet in this case as we are SpD.

It is up to you how much you want to invest, Valiant will come in to revenge and fail, or you can surprise revenge it. Simple set I think deserves some love, fits well on Ho's. Thanks for reading guys!

Figured I would give this a shot.

:darkrai:
Darkrai @ Roseli Berry
Ability: Bad Dreams
Shiny: Yes
Tera Type: Dark
EVs: 248 SpA / 8 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Dark Pulse
- Sludge Bomb
- Focus Blast
- Nasty Plot

Relatively simplistic set. Iron Valiant thinks they hit Darkrai with moonblast - now they can't (cc doesn't exist)

The 8 spdef EVs are neccesary to guarantee living choice specs moonblast

252 SpA Choice Specs Iron Valiant Moonblast vs. 0 HP / 8 SpD Roseli Berry Darkrai: 237-280 (84.3 - 99.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Not sure entirely how viable this is but it could be interesting as an option to not have to fully commit by expending tera to bait it.

Imma try this out

:weavile:
Weavile @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Pressure
Tera Type: Poison
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Poison Jab
- Knock Off
- Triple Axel
- Ice Shard

Tera Poison allows weav to tank moonblast/focus blast and ko back.
252 SpA Choice Specs Iron Valiant Moonblast vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Tera Poison Weavile: 125-147 (44.4 - 52.3%) -- 21.5% chance to 2HKO
252 SpA Choice Specs Iron Valiant Focus Blast vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Tera Poison Weavile: 158-186 (56.2 - 66.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252 Atk Tera Poison Weavile Poison Jab vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Iron Valiant: 270-318 (93.4 - 110%) -- 56.3% chance to OHKO
This into ice shard guranteed kos
252 Atk Tera Poison Weavile Ice Shard vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Iron Valiant: 67-81 (23.1 - 28%) -- 82.1% chance to 4HKO

With 4 votes, Great Tusk win this slate! Congrats to sh0shin

Next up we have,

CYCLE 2: Offensive Gouging Fire

:sv/Gouging Fire:

Gouging Fire @ Dragonium Z / Booster Energy / Heavy Duty Boots
Ability: Protosynthesis
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Tera Type: Ground
Adamant / Jolly Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Flare Blitz
- Earthquake / Morning Sun
- Outrage

Gouging Fire is a devastating wallbreaker and setup sweeper alike that can tear through teams easily. Earthquake allows Gouging Fire to break past Toxapex and Heatran, which would otherwise be able to wall it. Morning Sun gives Gouging Fire the ability to heal off any chip damage from priority or Rocky Helmet, making it even more difficult to take down for defensive teams. Outrage can be used as a nuke with Dragonium Z, letting Gouging Fire muscle past walls such as Dondozo through its sheer strength alone. Tera Ground can be used to power up Gouging Fire's Earthquake while allowing it to remove its weaknesses to revenge killers such as Booster Energy Iron Boulder and Great Tusk, allowing it to potentially win on the spot.
What lures can you build for this threat? Let's see who designs the best lure!

Submissions end on 31st July!

:sv/rillaboom:
Rillaboom @ Choice Band

Tera Type: Dark
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance / ice shard
- Dig
- Knock Off
- Icicle Crash

252+ Atk Weavile Tectonic Rage (160 BP) vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Gouging Fire: 306-362 (87.1 - 103.1%) -- 18.8% chance to OHKO
252+ Atk Weavile Ice Shard vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Gouging Fire: 58-69 (16.5 - 19.6%) -- possible 6HKO

Even the lowest roles of groundium and shard back to back will kill gouging so I hope this counts ?
