Project National Dex - Lure That Threat! - Hiatus

With 5 votes Shivdeit wins this cycle!

Now onto the next round:

Cycle 17: Terapagos
:sv/Terapagos-Terastal:
Terapagos @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Tera Shell
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Tera Starstorm
- Ice Beam
- Earth Power / Flamethrower
- Rapid Spin

Since being freed after the tera ban, Terapagos has cemented itself as one of the tiers best rapid spinners, with its access to a wide variety of coverage and powerful STAB in Tera Starstorm. Its ability Tera Shell, when coupled with Terapagos's high natural bulk often makes it difficult to bait in and KO, while threatening most of the tier back with its strong movepool.

How will you lure this threat?

:kartana:
Kartana @ Grassium Z
Ability: Beast Boost
Tera Type: Grass
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Leaf Blade
- Sacred Sword
- Knock Off

As everyone knows, kart is an extremely threatening offensive threat. Grass z feels quite odd due to fight z and normal z being more common, so pagos expects to live a hit at full most of the time. They would normally sac smth and go pagos if they don't have anything that can rkill it. Once they go pagos when ur at +2 expecting fight z or normal z and then waiting for you to switch or die, you just drop a nuke on them. You can also nuke lando and pex as a bonus.
Calcs:
+2 252 Atk Kartana Bloom Doom (175 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Tera Shell Terapagos-Terastal: 338-398 (102.1 - 120.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO
+1 252 Atk Kartana Bloom Doom (175 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Landorus-Therian: 424-499 (110.9 - 130.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO (Max max lando is less common but this is just to show that it ohkos every lando spread at +1.)
+2 252 Atk Kartana Bloom Doom (175 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Toxapex: 390-460 (128.2 - 151.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Tera Type: Ground
EVs: 252 Atk / 24 SpD / 232 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Rapid Spin
- Earthquake
- Submission

This is just stupid; how do you even bait Terapagos in? It doesn't really hard-switch into anything. Anyways, this is just a Stealth Rock setter that can nuke Terapagos thanks to Mold Breaker. Yes, Submission is better, since it has higher odds to OHKO compared to Brick Break:
252 SpA Terapagos-Terastal Earth Power vs. 0 HP / 24 SpD Excadrill: 232-274 (64.2 - 75.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 Atk Mold Breaker Excadrill All-Out Pummeling (160 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Terapagos-Terastal: 330-390 (99.6 - 117.8%) -- 93.8% chance to OHKO

bonus: u can nuke ferrothorn
252 Atk Excadrill All-Out Pummeling (160 BP) vs. 252 HP / 92+ Def Ferrothorn: 240-284 (68.1 - 80.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

:Haxorus:
Haxorus @ Dragonium Z
Ability: Unnerve
Tera Type: Dragon
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Outrage
- Swords Dance
- Scale Shot
- Earthquake

Imagine this. You are a Terapagos user and are using it on a balance build. Your Gliscor Ghold pex ferro (when weakened) etc all die to this thing and your only defensive measure against it is Terapagos. the haxorus has scale shot, but it doesn’t ohko because for some reason it’s not mold breaker. You think you can just spin and then starstorm because this is also adamant for some reason (based on ferro calcs), but then…

+2 252+ Atk Haxorus Devastating Drake (190 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Tera Shell Terapagos-Terastal: 344-405 (103.9 - 122.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO

:sm/xurkitree:
Xurkitree @ Electrium Z
Ability: Beast Boost
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Thunderbolt
- HP Ice
- Energy Ball or some other coverage idk
- Tail Glow

Basically this terapagos is presumably on offense where nothing else really wants to switch into the xurkitree you masterfully positioned against a moltres. No reason to sack the moltres so they go into terapagos knowing it outspeeds and 2hkos and can eat two tbolts or a +3 tbolt. So they switch in as xurkitree tail glows, do 80% with epower, then get nuked by a +3 gigavolt havoc. gg ez.

Again, only reason this can be effective as a lure is because the terapagos feels totally confident it can beat any xurkitree set.

+3 252 SpA Xurkitree Gigavolt Havoc (175 BP) vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Tera Shell Terapagos-Terastal: 406-478 (122.6 - 144.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 SpA Terapagos-Terastal Earth Power vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Xurkitree: 226-266 (73.6 - 86.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock

No this set isn’t at all normal, but it’s really not realistic to successfully lure pagos with a real set (other than grass z kart). Terapagos really isn’t a fan of hard switching into stuff except for in extremely specific scenarios because it doesn’t want to throw out its tera shell unless it can guarantee it wins the interaction. So basically, to actually lure in and beat this mon, you need to have some random wallbreaker with a stupidly strong z set, and that mon also needs to get outsped and 2hkod or undersped and ohkod by pagos.

This also lures bulky resists like mvenu and ferro which is pretty hilarious
+3 252 SpA Xurkitree Gigavolt Havoc (175 BP) vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Venusaur-Mega: 378-445 (103.8 - 122.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO
+3 252 SpA Xurkitree Gigavolt Havoc (175 BP) vs. 252 HP / 164 SpD Ferrothorn: 338-398 (96 - 113%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock

Ability: Supreme Overlord
Tera Type: Dark
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Kowtow Cleave
- Sucker Punch
- Low Kick
- Swords Dance

Idk how Terapagos is supposed to be lured in considering it never switches in but whatever. This Gambit set is generally very good and can just nuke what ever it wants. Single fainted ally and a swords dance and you ko Terapagos through tera shell. You also are 3 shot by flamethrower and/or earth power making getting that sd pretty easy.

+2 252 Atk Supreme Overlord 1 ally fainted Kingambit Black Hole Eclipse (160 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Tera Shell Terapagos: 338-398 (105.2 - 123.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252 SpA Terapagos Earth Power vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Kingambit: 144-170 (42.2 - 49.8%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

Cycle 18: Ting-Lu

:sv/ting-lu:

Ting-Lu @ Leftovers
Ability: Vessel of Ruin
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Earthquake
- Ruination
- Stealth Rock / Spikes
- Whirlwind

Boasting a high bulk and good defensive typing, Ting-Lu has cemented itself as a metagame staple on bulkier teams, where its ability to switch in on common threats and stack hazards is very appreciated. Its offensive stats are nothing to be sniffed at either, boasting a 110 Attack stat, making its Earthquakes difficult to switch on, and making it a lot less passive, with Ruination being able to hit other, bulkier targets for a solid 50%.

How will you lure this threat?

ting lu, one of the secret broken mons
ting lu switches in thinking it can force/whirlwind it out, just to be taunted and farmed for np boosts
sub is also a option to help vs revenge killers looking to pick off a weakened thundy but makes it slightly worse vs whirlwind
cant touch torn as eq is its only move so it relys on ruination to get anything done but still cant kill

this set is literally untouchable by lu. at absolute best, lu can try to farm down with ruinations but with a solid 3hko moonblast and whirl/hazards being reflected back, this is probably as hard of a counter as you can get and the ultimate lu-re. get it. because his name is ting-lu and we
