Project National Dex - Lure That Threat! - Hiatus

With 5 votes BrisingrDraconis wins this slate!

Now, coming to the next round:

Cycle 13: Assault Vest Kingambit

:sv/kingambit:

Kingambit @ Assault Vest
Ability: Supreme Overlord/ Defiant
Tera Type: Dark
EVs: 252 HP / 104 Atk / 152 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Knock Off
- Iron Head/Low Kick
- Pursuit
- Sucker Punch

Being an amazing defensive piece and stopgap into many common special attackers, Kingambit finds itself fulfilling a very important role on a lot of teams. It has access to strong priority in Sucker Punch, as well as being one of few pursuiters, allowing it to trap important offensive and defensive threats such as Dragapult, Galarian Slowking and choice locked Tapu-Lele.

How will you lure this threat?

Now, coming to the next round:

Cycle 14: Alomomola

:sv/alomomola:

Alomomola @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Regenerator
Tera Type: Water
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Def / 252 SpD
Relaxed Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Flip Turn
- Toxic
- Wish
- Protect

Alomomola, along with its titanic bulk, typing and access to Regenerator makes it one of the premier defensive wall and wish passers of the tier. The fish is able to come in on most attackers like Zamazenta and Mega Lopunny and is usually able to get a toxic off or wish pass to another pokemon. Most pokemon can not KO this without boosts making this fish one of the main defensive threats to be taken care of on most teams.

How will you lure this threat?

:xy/tapu lele:
Tapu Lele @ Psychium Z
Ability: Psychic Surge
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Psyshock
- Moonblast
- Focus Blast
- Future Sight

This baby is a beast. Psyshock, Moonblast, and Focus Blast provide fantastic coverage for Lele. Very few mons can easily switch into all these moves. Additionally, if they switch in correctly, Lele is able to switch it's move thanks to it's Psychium not forcing it to be choice locked. The real star of the show is Future Sight. Terrain + the Z-Move boost + STAB + Lele's incredible SpA stat allow it to nuke and kill basically anything that is not resistant or immune to Psychic type moves. This includes Alomomola. When at full health, it can tank any one of Lele's moves, which typically gives it a false sense of security. By either bringing Lele in directly on Mola, or if Mola is switched into Lele's moves, it will typically go for a Wish, Toxic, or Flip Turn on the ostensibly non-threatening Lele. Basically, just click the nuke button, and Lele will take care of your fish infestation, and basically any other non Psychic, Steel, or Dark type.

Victini @ Electrium Z
Ability: Victory Star
Tera Type: Psychic
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Power-Up Punch
- V-create
- Bolt Strike
- U-turn

This set is quite bad but it’s pretty funny and it’s more creative than slapping substitute on a random mon and calling it a Mola lure. The idea is to basically lure in Mola by clicking PuP vs. it and, because +1 bolt strike doesn’t ko, the Mola stays in. Thats when you pull out the electrium z tech:

+1 252 Atk Victini Gigavolt Havoc (195 BP) vs. 4 HP / 252+ Def Alomomola: 442-520 (93.6 - 110.1%) -- 62.5% chance to OHKO

Volcanion @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
IVs: 0 Atk
Modest Nature
- Steam Eruption
- Fire Blast
- Fire Spin
- Taunt

Alomomola thinks its a free switch-in versus any move that Volcanion throws at it, until it gets trapped by Fire Spin, since Flip Turn is blocked by Water Absorb, while Toxic itself is shut down next turn by Taunt. From there you just keep hitting and Taunting it until it dies.

:xy/zamazenta:
Zamazenta @ Electrium Z
Ability: Dauntless Shield
Tera Type: Fighting
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe

- Wild Charge
- Ice Fang / Crunch / Stone Edge
- Howl

+1 252+ Atk Zamazenta Gigavolt Havoc (175 BP) vs. 4 HP / 252+ Def Alomomola: 492-580 (104.2 - 122.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO

My previous set was a shitpost but this set probably has sauce if you work out some way to deal with Spikes ngl. Adamant is used to guarantee the roll but you should realistically run Jolly and just get the 5% chip somewhere else. This is a lure because 4A Zama is usually one of the many unfortunate mons blanked by Alomomola and this gives Zama a way to handle the problem without the use of a double.

:sv/cinderace:
Cinderace @ Normalium Z
Ability: Libero
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Pyro Ball

- Sucker Punch

+2 252 Atk Libero Cinderace Breakneck Blitz (190 BP) vs. 4 HP / 252+ Def Alomomola: 475-561 (100.6 - 118.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO

You just SD on the switch then whack the mola with the big 190 bp move that's now stab and then the mola goes bye bye. Really don't see most people scouting for this when they see cinderace sd as they switch into mola.

:bw/volcarona:
Volcarona @ Grassium Z
Ability: Flame Body
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk

252 SpA Volcarona Bloom Doom (190 BP) vs. 4 HP / 252 SpD Alomomola: 532-626 (112.7 - 132.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Bait out Mola since flip turn is a 2HKO and Volc is probably a free wishpass fodder, and they also might expect a Quiver Dance or a switch, then use Bloom Doom to kill Mola

Kyurem @ Icicle Plate
Ability: Pressure
Tera Type: Ice
EVs: 180 Atk / 76 SpA / 252 Spe
Naughty Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Icicle Spear
- Freeze-Dry
- Earth Power

My Most favourite stall counter... I have swept stall with this like 21 times now with this specific set and also mentioned it in my RMT https://www.smogon.com/forums/threa...eam-by-zephyr-moonbeam.3755410/#post-10348837 Its really good because of the surprise factor. People see Kyurem dragon dancing, they think that phys def alomomola can tank a few hits so switch into it for any potential scald burns and/or wish passing, and then freeze dry deals heavy damage to the alomomola and sometimes even kills.
https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen9nationaldex-2194451429-kpu51egamf5b3kx12t20pbv4jsdtuojpw Here's a replay though the alomomola is missing here...
