Project National Dex OU: Break This Core (Week 34: Mega Latias + Kartana + Victini)

oops turns out :crawdaunt: isn't ranked :(((
So instead, we turn to another hero
:buzzwole: :buzzwole: :buzzwole::buzzwole: :buzzwole: :buzzwole: :buzzwole: :buzzwole: :buzzwole: :buzzwole: :buzzwole: :buzzwole: :buzzwole: :buzzwole: :buzzwole: :buzzwole: :buzzwole: :buzzwole::buzzwole: :buzzwole: :buzzwole: :buzzwole: :buzzwole:
Because of buzzwole's high phys def, it eats reuniclus's psyshocks pretty well, able to switch in and beat it 1v1 with leech life. It's also able to eat ttar's stone edges for breakfast and then outspeed and destroy it with cc. This spread is shamelessly stolen from ssou's set compendium, and less speed can be run if you want to eat these hits better because I don't think this really needs that much speed.

Buzzwole @ Rocky Helmet / Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Beast Boost
EVs: 152 HP / 168 Atk / 188 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Close Combat
- Ice Punch
- Leech Life
- Roost

Calcs:
0 SpA Reuniclus Psyshock vs. 152 HP / 0 Def Buzzwole: 158-188 (40.2 - 47.8%) -- guaranteed 3HKO (actually illegal how little this does)
168+ Atk Buzzwole Leech Life vs. 252 HP / 212+ Def Reuniclus: 258-306 (60.8 - 72.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
168+ Atk Buzzwole Close Combat vs. 132 HP / 0 Def Tyranitar-Mega: 604-712 (161.4 - 190.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 Atk Tyranitar-Mega Stone Edge vs. 152 HP / 0 Def Buzzwole: 147-174 (37.4 - 44.2%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after sandstorm damage

Because both Fini and Heatran lack Taunt, the only thing stopping Rotom from using both as setup fodder is Heatran’s Toxic. Otherwise, it’s free to get up to +2/+4 and rip through both targets with its STABs.

swords dance and blast through both. Gotta watch for scald burns tho.

Latias @ Latiasite
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Calm Mind
- Roost
- Stored Power
- Refresh

CM + Refresh Mega Tias can break through this core with relative ease, as both the Fini and Tran sets listed lack Taunt and Heatran's Toxic can no longer stop Lati's sweep. Fini can only threaten with Nature's Madness after Lati sets up (Moonblast is too weak ) and that gets easily mitigated with Roost.

As I was halfway through writing my Rain sweeper Lotad analysis, I realized the Smogon forums just wasn't ready to begin a dialogue about lil baby:

Ability: Iron Fist
EVs: 128 HP / 116 Atk / 252 SpD / 12 Spe
Careful Nature

My accountant had to find the twos complement, carry the two once more, get haxxed by his opp on the ladder, before finally finishing crunching the numbers. They came to me and said "2020 idm boomer, this is it. This is how we break the fini-tran core."

[They said I was weak to fire?]
116 Atk Melmetal Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Heatran: 408-480 (105.6 - 124.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO
0 SpA Heatran Magma Storm vs. 128 HP / 252+ SpD Assault Vest Melmetal: 170-204 (38.3 - 46%) -- 16% chance to 2HKO after trapping damage

[D-did it mean to set up terrain for me?]
116 Atk Iron Fist Melmetal Thunder Punch vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Tapu Fini: 170-202 (49.5 - 58.8%) -- 69.5% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

Mew @ Electrium Z
Ability: Synchronize
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature

- Wild Charge

- Psychic Fangs

My boy mew has a great offensive matchup versus this core. First of all, Fini acts as a setup fodder as Mew's all-round bulk gives it plentiful opportunities to setup on it, further improving it's pressure overall as a sweeper. All the while mew decimating Heatran with earthquake. It's a win win with a little desert at the end.

This set goes above and beyond. Not only does it "Break this core" (roll credits) but it leaves mew in a position to threaten the rest of the opponents team with a +1 Mew ready to wreak havoc.

- Almost straight up ohkos without even setting up
252+ Atk Mew Gigavolt Havoc (175 BP) vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Tapu Fini: 310-366 (90.3 - 106.7%) -- 43.8% chance to OHKO
+1 252+ Atk Mew Gigavolt Havoc (175 BP) vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Tapu Fini: 464-546 (135.2 - 159.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO
Possible damage amounts: (464, 468, 474, 480, 484, 490, 496, 502, 506, 512, 518, 524, 528, 534, 540, 546)

- Thanks for letting me setup :]
12 SpA Tapu Fini Moonblast vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Mew: 100-118 (29.3 - 34.6%) -- 7.3% chance to 3HKO
12 SpA Tapu Fini Scald vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Mew: 84-99 (24.6 - 29%) -- 99.6% chance to 4HKO

- Another one bites the dust
252+ Atk Mew Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Heatran: 384-452 (99.4 - 117%) -- 93.8% chance to OHKO
+1 252+ Atk Mew Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Heatran: 568-672 (147.1 - 174%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252 Atk Zeraora Close Combat vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Heatran: 226-266 (58.5 - 68.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
