Project National Dex OU: Magic Matchmaking (Round 9: Mega Diancie)

:sv/ferrothorn:
Ferrothorn @ Leftovers
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 40 Def / 216 SpD
Tera Type: Ghost
Impish Nature
- Power Whip
- Leech Seed
- Stealth Rock / Spikes
- Knock Off

Ferrothorn is able to form a strong, water-resistant defensive core with Alomomola., who is able to keep Ferrothorn healthy with Wish support, while the former makes progress with hazard damage, Knock Off and Leech Seed combined with Alomomola's Toxic damage. It's able to come into the Electric-types that threaten Alomomola such as Tapu Koko and Raging Bolt, as well as handling opposing Grass-types like Rillaboom or Kartana locked into their STAB, meanwhile, Alomomola is able to come into the Fire-types that threaten Ferrothorn such as Gouging Fire and Mega Charizard Y. Tera Ghost on Ferrothorn blocks Rapid Spin to maintain hazards, as well as helping to further shut down Great Tusk for Mega Lopunny. Tera Fairy on Alomomola can help against opposing Fighting-types like Mega Lopunny and the aforementioned Great Tusk, while Tera Dragon is able to handle Mega Charizard Y and Serperior significantly better, both of which would hurt this duo significantly.

Ursaluna @ Flame Orb
Ability: Guts
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Tera Type: Normal/Fairy/Dragon
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Facade
- Headlong Rush
- Fire Punch

Ursaluna has been consistently proven as one of the premier partners to Alomomola, the core itself gaining a sample even when that archetype is in the decline. Ursaluna fixes Alomomola’s natural passivity by being the hardest hitter in the tier, being able to pivot in and put off extreme amounts of offensive pressure on foes like Slowking-Galar and Ferrothorn, which otherwise would aim to use Alomomola’s passivity to their advantage. When Ursaluna is given an attack advantage, it usually takes a few kills with it, breaking severe holes in opponents. In turn, Alomomola can switch into foes like Urshifu and Mega Lopunny that threaten to revenge Ursaluna, while spreading Toxic on Ursaluna’s very limited checks like opposing Alomomola and Landorus. Alongside this natural synergy, Alomomola’s ability to wishpass is able to heal up Ursaluna throughout the course of a slow game, which Ursaluna naturally will take chip from burn and Iron Barbs/Rocky Helmet/Rough Skin when clicking facade, while also trading damage for HP with its impressive defensive stats against foes like Rocky Helmet Landorus and Garchomp, in which Alomomola can step in and attempt to pass a wish, especially to Tera Fairy or Dragon Variants of Ursaluna which can tank hits much more effectively and much more appreciates the healing due to how difficult it then becomes to remove.

Voting ends Wednesday!

Hello! We have our first tied vote. I think it’s fine if I step in to break the tie and I vote Ferrothorn. Congrats Sami for winning this round! Next up we got something more heat…

Round 3: Victini
:ss/victini:

Victini @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Victory Star
Tera Type: Fire / Grass
EVs: 224 Atk / 32 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly / Hasty Nature
- V-create
- U-turn
- Bolt Strike
- Toxic / Glaciate / Encore

Victini has never been truly bad in my opinion and in some cases actually fits well on some offense teams. With useful typing and good bulk, it’s able to act as a soft check to Iron Crown, Tapu Lele, and Volcarona; but don’t fear its short term defensive utility, as the offensive teams it fits on will capitalize on such opportunities. With good coverage in bolt strike to hit Bulky water types like Toxapex, pivoting, and some utility slot last, Victini is able to force progress quite well against Ferrothorn + Toxapex cores or just cores with steel types (barring heatran) in general while also bringing good defensive utility. That being said, how will you ignite this flame brighter?

Submissions end Wednesday!

(Oh man, what a core. These two are about to click your 6 into oblivion!)

Urshifu-Rapid-Strike @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Unseen Fist
Tera Type: Water
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Surging Strikes
- Close Combat
- U-turn
- Ice Punch / Ice Spinner / Aqua Jet

Ironically enough, I'm bringing water to ignite the flame brighter.

Aaah, the Waterbear. What is there to say. The acclaimed U-turn merchant being paired with another well known U-turner... Unless you're first thought when thinking about Victini is Zelebrate, which to that I say I'm sorry for your loss.

Urshifu is potentially one of the bestmight I even say the best—offensive partner for Victini, forming a potent momentum core that's able to get rid of each other's checks and overwhelm shared checks. Tini appreciates the severe ammount of pressure that the bear poses onto grounds like Lando, Gliscor, Ting Lu, Great Tusk and Chomp that might switch in to Vcreate and threaten out due to its speed drop. While the grounds don't appreciate coming in on a supper effective Glaciate or a Toxic, bar Gliscor, the former two are enticed to keep themselves healthy enough to be able to pivot into the bears resisted moves, less the bear wins by spamming CC. Shifu also helps solve Tini's worst matchups in Garganacl, which otherwise freely spams Salt Cure, and Mega Ttar and Weavile which can easily trap it, especially Mega Ttar, which can switch into Vcreate. In return, Tini baits in the waters that often pivot into Shifu, like Mola, Pex, and the occasional (once in a blue moon) Slowbro, and threatens them with getting crippled with Toxic, bar Pex, or getting dented with Bolt Strike on the switch. Encore is an extreemly potent tool as well, being able to lock Raging Bolt into CM or Thunderclap, and other mons like Clefable, Mola, Gliscor and Zapos that try to heal off the bear's damage. On top of all that, the Victory Pokemon's typing and usable bulk allow it to come in and pivot around the bear's revenge killers like Lele that come in on a locked CC, CharY switching into as well, some Valiant variations, and Volcarona using it as set up fodder if locked into one of it's stabs, or worse, an ice move.

hope y'all have fun with these two. peace! V

Iron Valiant @ Choice Specs
Ability: Quark Drive
Tera Type: Fairy
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Moonblast
- Focus Blast
- Thunderbolt
- Shadow Ball

Standard Specs Valiant, pairs really nicely with Victini since both scare each other's checks. Valiant threatens huge damage onto anything that isn't Glowking / Toxapex / AV Crown, which conveniently are three opportunities for Victini to come in and hit a V-create or Bolt Strike on, while Garganacl and the Pursuit trappers that feast on Victini fall easily to Focus Blast. Not much else to say here.

Ability: Water Absorb
Tera Type: Water
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Ivy Cudgel
- Horn Leech/ power whip
- Superpower

i feel like victini and oger match up well together first of oger provides a ground switch in to mons like gliscor but more importantly provides a water immunity which it can take advantage of due to victinis u turn oger can also help to pressure mons like lando, heatran, mola, M ttar. i feel like victini is a large help into oger as it can surprise mons like d nite with glaciate check grass types and other common oger checks like serp, corv, m szizor, and ferro so yeh imo just a naturally good pairing

With 3 votes, Ogerpon-W by Gottycatcheymall is the winner; congrats!
Round 4: Iron Moth
:ss/iron moth:

Iron Moth @ Booster Energy
Ability: Quark Drive
Tera Type: Ground
EVs: 124 Def / 132 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Fiery Dance
- Sludge Wave
- Energy Ball
- Tera Blast

This Pokemon sure went from middling to amazing in the blink of an eye! With the trend of offense in the metagame, Iron Moth has come to take its place as one of the best speed control options for HO and even some Offense teams. With Tera being one its of its greatest assets, its able to blow past checks like Galarian Slowking, Toxapex, and Heatran in the click of a button while also being good coverage against offense staples in Raging Bolt and Gouging Fire. Fiery Dance also means that Iron Moth is capable of snowballing games it really shouldn’t given you are lucky enough. How will you support throbotic moth?

Submissions end Thursday!

:sv/scizor-mega:

Scizor @ Scizorite
Ability: Light Metal
EVs: 248 HP / 112 Def / 128 SpD / 20 Spe
Tera Type: Bug
Impish Nature
- Swords Dance
- Bullet Punch
- U-turn
- Roost

Mega Scizor provides valuable pivot support to Iron Moth, who's able to abuse the Fire-type switches Scizor brings in such as Heatran and Volcarona, while Mega Scizor is able to pressure out Mega Tyranitar, Ting Lu and the Lati Twins, Pokemon that Iron Moth struggles against. These two combined can be a nuisance for Tapu Lele, as Psychic-type moves are stuffed by Mega Scizor, while any coverage option is stuffed by Iron Moth, with both of these two eating Moonblast very easily.

Srry peeps, been rlly busy lately. This will probs be my last sub for any project since life has been getting busier and busier. Just gonna take a 4-5 month 'brb'. But here it is!

:sv/tapu koko:

Tapu Koko @ Electrium Z / (or Terrain Extender tbh)
Ability: Electric Surge
Tera Type: Electric
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Thunderbolt
- U-turn
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Roost

Ground are annoying? Bop em into range and pivot out. Galarking abt to come in and paralyze or bait the tera? Overwhelm that shit with the pivot tapu. And the main reason for koko: need to check smth faster but don't wanna burn off the booster? EZ man, EZ, just set terrain! But yeah, thought these two would be cool since I've been messing around with them for a while, but in retrospective Koko doesn't do a lot for Moth, and vice versa.

Tyranitar mega

Iron Moth @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Quark Drive
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
IVs: 0 Atk
Tera Type: Grass/ fairy/ ground
Timid Nature
- Fiery Dance

- Energy Ball/ dazzling gleam/ tera blast
- U-turn

Tyranitar @ Tyranitarite
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 132 HP / 252 Atk / 124 Spe
Tera Type: Rock
Adamant Nature
- Stone Edge
- Knock Off
- Pursuit
- Stealth Rock

these two pair very well fundamentally together as well as offensively iron moth being one of the fastest non scarf u turn mons in the tier only behind mega loppuny who isn't usable with m ttar. M ttar is just the full package a bulky offensive mon that can set up rocks remove items and remove/ chip down mons with pursuit. Iron moths fast u turn allows for easy pursuits free sr and knock offs to be spamed by mega ttar while m ttar can remove common iron moth checks like gking and do chip to others with pursuit or even just kill gougingn fire, raging bolt, dragonite, and heatran. In general, this is just a really hard core to wall as no matter what you take chip from m ttar and can then get swept by iron moth i could see these two being paired well with mons like ogerpon, raging bolt, para spamers, and zap
