Project National Dex OU: Magic Matchmaking (Round 9: Mega Diancie)

1725356700693.png

Weavile @ Choice Band
Ability: Pressure
Tera Type: Dark
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Knock Off
- Ice Shard
- Triple Axel
- Pursuit

I find the standard Banded Weavile to be the best match for Iron Moth, as they compliment each other quite well offensively and both being very speedy threats that could grab the KO on some important mons that normally threaten Iron Moth.
252 Atk Choice Band Weavile Triple Axel (120 BP) (3 hits) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Ogerpon-Wellspring: 322-381 (106.9 - 126.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 Atk Choice Band Weavile Knock Off vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Iron Crown: 302-356 (94 - 110.9%) -- 62.5% chance to OHKO
252 Atk Choice Band Weavile Triple Axel (120 BP) (3 hits) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Great Tusk: 442-526 (119.1 - 141.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO
It's also a good switchin to Iron Crown, and threatens it with Pursuit if it threatens to switch out. Also, if Iron Moth decides to Tera (most likely into Ground), its Ice coverage is very helpful against the various flying-types of the tier (lando-t, gliscor and the like)

hello it is time for voting after some delay, good number of submissions this time so thank you guys for that :)

Option A
:sv/scizor-mega:

Scizor @ Scizorite
Ability: Light Metal
EVs: 248 HP / 112 Def / 128 SpD / 20 Spe
Tera Type: Bug
Impish Nature
- Swords Dance
- Bullet Punch
- U-turn
- Roost

Mega Scizor provides valuable pivot support to Iron Moth, who's able to abuse the Fire-type switches Scizor brings in such as Heatran and Volcarona, while Mega Scizor is able to pressure out Mega Tyranitar, Ting Lu and the Lati Twins, Pokemon that Iron Moth struggles against. These two combined can be a nuisance for Tapu Lele, as Psychic-type moves are stuffed by Mega Scizor, while any coverage option is stuffed by Iron Moth, with both of these two eating Moonblast very easily.
Option B
Srry peeps, been rlly busy lately. This will probs be my last sub for any project since life has been getting busier and busier. Just gonna take a 4-5 month 'brb'. But here it is!

:sv/tapu koko:

Tapu Koko @ Electrium Z / (or Terrain Extender tbh)
Ability: Electric Surge
Tera Type: Electric
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Thunderbolt
- U-turn
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Roost

Ground are annoying? Bop em into range and pivot out. Galarking abt to come in and paralyze or bait the tera? Overwhelm that shit with the pivot tapu. And the main reason for koko: need to check smth faster but don't wanna burn off the booster? EZ man, EZ, just set terrain! But yeah, thought these two would be cool since I've been messing around with them for a while, but in retrospective Koko doesn't do a lot for Moth, and vice versa.

Tyranitar mega

Iron Moth @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Quark Drive
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
IVs: 0 Atk
Tera Type: Grass/ fairy/ ground
Timid Nature
- Fiery Dance
- Sludge Wave
- Energy Ball/ dazzling gleam/ tera blast
- U-turn

Tyranitar @ Tyranitarite
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 132 HP / 252 Atk / 124 Spe
Tera Type: Rock
Adamant Nature
- Stone Edge
- Knock Off
- Pursuit
- Stealth Rock

these two pair very well fundamentally together as well as offensively iron moth being one of the fastest non scarf u turn mons in the tier only behind mega loppuny who isn't usable with m ttar. M ttar is just the full package a bulky offensive mon that can set up rocks remove items and remove/ chip down mons with pursuit. Iron moths fast u turn allows for easy pursuits free sr and knock offs to be spamed by mega ttar while m ttar can remove common iron moth checks like gking and do chip to others with pursuit or even just kill gougingn fire, raging bolt, dragonite, and heatran. In general, this is just a really hard core to wall as no matter what you take chip from m ttar and can then get swept by iron moth i could see these two being paired well with mons like ogerpon, raging bolt, para spamers, and zap

Round 4: Kyurem
:ss/kyurem:

Kyurem @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Pressure
Tera Type: Ground
EVs: 56 HP / 196 SpA / 32 SpD / 224 Spe
Timid Nature
- Substitute
- Freeze-Dry
- Earth Power
- Roost

Yeah it’s kinda obvious why I picked this mon but whatever. With NDPL starting its kickoff games, I think it would be a good idea to look into a Pokemon that will most certainly receive experimentation in the later rounds of the ongoing tours; Kyurem. Kyurem is usually a sleeper threat against a variety of balance teams that have no real way of reliably checking it defensively, preying on cores with Bulky waters + ground. Not only that, steel types like Heatran and Iron Crown are slammed by earth power for considerable chip, and in conjunction with Tera helps it to break through Slowking-Galar and Iron Crown a bit easier. Pressure in tandem with Substitute is also quite annoying, allowing it to outstall Gyro Ball Ferrothorn and the aforementioned Heatran, giving it more even more winpaths. What partner will you give the lonely Boundary Pokemon?

Submissions end Wednesday!

:sv/slowking-galar:

Slowking-Galar @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
IVs: 0 Spe
Tera Type: Steel / Fairy
Sassy Nature
- Future Sight
- Sludge Bomb
- Chilly Reception
- Thunder Wave

Balance Core with Slowking-G handling all the Fairy- and Fighting-types that Kyurem doesn't want to handle, such as Iron Valiant, Clefable, Tapu Lele and Kommo-O. It can pivot in easily from said Fairy/Fighting-types with Chilly Reception, the snow not only annoying Pokemon like Mega Charizard Y and Mega Tyranitar for Kyurem to hit more easily, but it ensures the latter comes in safely as well, while Slowking-G heals up with Regenerator. In return, Kyurem is able to scare out all the Ground-types, including Iron Treads to some extent, which would otherwise threaten Slowking-G, such as Landorus-T, Garchomp and especially Gliscor. It's also able to offensively pressure Pokemon that Slowking-G doesn't like dealing with, such as Tera Steel Serperior and Heatran. These slow pivots combined with Future Sight also allows Kyurem + Slowking-G to break through opposing Slowking-G, Mega Venusaur and healthy Clodsire, while also further pressuring checks to either such as AV Iron Crown and Ferrothorn, with Substitute from Kyurem helping break through the stall teams Clodsire is typically found on. Finally, Tera Fairy Slowking-G lets it handle opposing Dragon-types like Z-move Raging Bolt, Archaludon and Mega Latios, while Tera Steel strengthens the Tapu Lele and Psychic-type MU in general. Meanwhile, Tera Ground on Kyurem lets it stop Volt Switch Tapu Koko from being a nuiscance, while also allowing it to handle Mega Tyranitar much more easily, who'd otherwise curbstomp this core.

Heatran @ Leftovers
Ability: Flash Fire
Tera Type: Grass
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
IVs: 0 Atk
Timid Nature
- Earth Power
- Magma Storm
- Stealth Rock
- Toxic

This is the standard heatran set. It compliments sub + roost kyurem nicely, due to it being able to block kyurem from many supereffective hits, like rock, fairy, steel, and dragon. It also traps and/or toxics kyurem's counters (steel and poison are immune to toxic, but heatran hits them supereffectively). Heatran itself struggles with ground as a type, but kyurem obliterates it with ice stab.
Calcs:
252 SpA Heatran Magma Storm vs. 240 HP / 4 SpD Iron Crown: 306-362 (80.3 - 95%) -- 50% chance to OHKO after trapping damage
252 SpA Heatran Earth Power vs. 76 HP / 0 SpD Raging Bolt: 216-256 (52.6 - 62.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
+1 252+ SpA Raging Bolt Devastating Drake (195 BP) vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Heatran: 258-304 (79.8 - 94.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 SpA Heatran Magma Storm vs. 248 HP / 76 SpD Corviknight: 344-408 (86.2 - 102.2%) -- 12.5% chance to OHKO (87.5% chance to OHKO after trapping damage)
Hits corv (one of Kyurem's main checks w/o tera blast) for huge amounts of damage

Round 5: Mega Medicham
:ss/medicham-mega:

Medicham-Mega @ Medichamite
Ability: Pure Power
Tera Type: Fighting
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Zen Headbutt
- Close Combat
- Ice Punch / Bullet Punch
- Fake Out

Mega Medicham is arguably the best mega evolution to use, and for good reason! Against a variety of teams not named ho it forces guaranteed progress Vs. pretty much any defensive backbone. Because of its sheer power, it’s a very good choice for BO and Offense teams that like how it exploits common defensive cores while sustaining its issue of frailty with pivots. Ice punch means landorus-t can’t accrue Rocky Helmet chip on it, and bullet punch is very useful against a variety of offensive threats like weavile and Iron Valiant. What support will you give this unparalleled breaker?

What??? Lele + Mega Medi? Really? Doesn't terrain prevent Cham from spamming Fake Out? Well yes, my good m8s, it does. But believe me, yessir, that there is nothing better-more enticing, more exciting, more exquisite-than unleashing the full unstoppable power of CC + FS! I chose scarf Lele since it can in part make up for Cham not being able to click Fake Out as much as it usually can, but any Lele set can work as long as it is Future Sight.

But yeah, long story short, Medi ravages on the steels that would usually try to switch into Lele, and Lele unleashed FS while scaring away and directly threatening Medi's usual s/is. Have fun with these two!!! They're a broken combo, fr fr.

slay queen, yasss~

Mega Medicham likes CornerPon breaking Flying types like Zapdos and Tornadus-T for it while MMedi beats Steel types like Heatran and Ferrothorn, the latter especially useful so CornerPon's Sturdy stays intact. They both overwhelm Landorus-T while they're both good stallbreakers too, them both having good neutral coverage across the entire tier.

dragon/flying and steel offer some decent ways to sponge a hit especially if revenging medicham. common issues for mcham could be scarf lando/lele, lopunny, thunderclap/aqua jet, hurricane (pls no proc), or just losing to some random tera that elemental dnite can most likely handle.

This mad giraffe and mega medi make an excellent duo because of medi’s ability to neutralize bolt’s checks, such as ting, ferro, and lando, as well as other things. Even if bolt is in with a gliscor or a lando it still has its tera flying which lets it set up as well. The one mon you for sure have to watch despite medi killing most of bolt’s checks is tapu koko, but chances are you have a spd mon in the back. (glowking for mayor)

the loaded dice dd kyurem set can help against common checks to the mega medi set above such as corviknight/skarmory, and when tera'd can compliment medi nicely with its fairy resistance. using up tera is common on this mon (especially this set), so you mostly dont need to worry about other teammates while terastalizing kyurem.
